Hidden in Listers Home Interiors, this lovely cafe has a relaxing atmosphere. Food, coffee and service was very good. Prices are very reasonable. We loved it and Will definatley go again the next time in Shrewsbury.

We stumbled across this coffee shop in Shrewsbury and it’s an absolute gem. The staff go above and beyond for their customers, the setting was unique & perfect and the cakes we had were divine. If I’m ever back in Shrewsbury, I will go here.

Incompetent and rude staff. It’s table service so you would expect to be served at your table. I think it’s reasonable to expect that . I also think it’s reasonable to expect that staff are savvy enough to make a mental note of who came in and when. But no. Female member of staff continued clearing tables and taking payments even though my daughter and I had been waiting for a considerable amount of time. We left after over twenty minutes of watching this woman faff about. Po faced and avoiding eye contact as of her life depended on it. Five tables filled after we had sat down and lo and behold she served the last one to arrive. If you are going to have TABLE SERVICE I SUGGEST YOU EMPLOY SOMEONE WHO IS SAVVY ENOUGH TO KEEP A MENTAL NOTE OF WHATS GOING ON. The whole atmosphere was if customers were an inconvenience. Truly felt uncomfortable and based on my experience with that one member of staff I will never go back. Couldn’t tell you what the food or drink was like. Didn’t see any coming out. This is Shrewsbury. Plenty of competition about. Give it a swerve

Coffee had strange taste, cash only, heard them say bacon wasn't ready for breakfast

We went both for a coffee and a couple of times for a meal. The food was amazing, the coffee good and the service, even at the busiest times was courteous and swift. Well done! (Just remember that they only accept cash)

I initially thought that this place was a little gem as I have visited it a few times before, but not this time. I ordered tea for one (£2.10) plus a scone with jam and butter (£3.75) which by my reckoning and according to the menu prices comes to £5.85 not the £7.40 that I was charged, as I was in a hurry to catch a bus I did not challenge this at the time but I feel that I was ripped off. I am not impressed and I would not recommend this place and I will not be visiting it again. I would recommend that any future customers check the prices on the menu before they pay.

Rude staff When we arrived we went straight to the counter to order coffee and hot chocolate. My daughter checked the ruby got choc was vegetarian as some of the colourings are not always vegetarian - the serving girl did not seem to know, and said no it is not vegetarian- fair enough. So we ordered a normal chocolate - which apparently was not vegetarian as it contained milk chocolate- I did clarify that we did not need vegan, just vegetarian.she did not seem to know the difference and her replies were snarky and rude We ordered drinks and she said it's table service so I'll bring the drinks over, great! No problem - we just waited to add that my daughter would also like a slice of cake and pointed to the one she liked in the display cabinet ...As is normal practice in café! She at no point asked us to order at the table. She took our order and the way she worded it was that she would bring it over to us at our table. We did not realise what a drama this would cause until we came to pay! When we tried to pay she said it was cash only. I questioned why it was not made clear before ordering, there were no visible notices at the counter, she did not say anything when ordering and she says there were notices on the table which we should have looked at before ordering (we did not sit before ordering, we don't always read every leaflet/flyer on the table - especially as we had ordered already and were having a conversation, this leaflet was separate to the menus in the stand - gold print on black and scroll font- not clear and not easy to read, and certainly not easy to spot even When looking). I gave my feedback that it was not clear, because it really isn't! This was met with rudeness and bad attitude. Apparently when we ordered, because we came to the counter we were "coming at her"! It was our fault because we should have read the leaflet on the table before ordering and she disputed that I found it hard to find where it said cash only. I can see from previous reviews that this has been a situation which has occurred previously - so really it's a case of poor communication, poor customer service and rudeness. The coffee was weak and the cake was stale

Passing through Shrewsbury for first time. Needed a quick breakfast. Quality, service and VALUE FOR MONEY - all outstanding. Hidden gem. Couldn’t recommend more highly

I love it! The cakes are amazing and the service is super kind, they made my day! It’s calm very nice place.

Waited for several mins to have our order taken (and they were not busy) so we upped and left. Disappointing.

Ordered drinks and snacks. Drinks took ages to arrive and food never appeared. Left paying for drinks only even though they tried to charge for food.

I visited yesterday and was astounded that payment is cash only. Because of this I was restricted in my choice because I had less than ten pounds in cash. If card payment had been available then I would have spent more. Makes me wonder if there is another reason for cash only other than the cost of processing payments as a review was left in 2021 over the lack of ability to pay by card.

Quality food at good value price. Does not take card payments.

We stayed in the AirBnb next door and decided to have breakfast here. The village coffee house did not disappoint! Service and food were fantastic and can highly recommend!

We were in Shrewsbury at lunch time and as we have been here before and had great food and service we decided to have lunch here. I had jacket potato with Cheese and bacon and my husband had miners benedict, both were freshly looked and yummy. We also had a hot drink each. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. Just a warning you do have to pay cash here they don't take card payment

We always enjoy our lunch here, plates really need heating for hot food, we'd enjoy it a lot more.

Very sad to give the food only 3 stars but their cakes used to be lovely but not this visit 🙁 There with friends and every cake we ordered did not taste fresh and was very bland. Service etc is lovely and friendly here but sadly we will give it a miss for a while 🙁

Been several times, and up till now not been disappointed, till now. We arrived at 11 o'clock and found there was only 1 empty table, which had a sign on it that it was reserved from 12.30. Although we said that we only wanted coffee on this occasion, we were not allowed to sit there. Very disappointing and annoying. Plenty of coffee shops around, but they obviously feel they don't need business.

Decent sandwiches that u can change to either wraps or panini as well. Coffee ☕ was decent too Priced decent as well, well worth a stop when in the main shop.

Popped in for a bite & to nose around the store. So glad we did! Great decaf cappuccino & nice portion of cottage pie. Jacket potato & side salad too. Staff were friendly. Prices reasonable. Glad we saw the sign on the street!

popped in for breakfast with my husband, very friendly staff and the food was good quality and reasonably priced. Yes you have to pay cash but it does tell you on the table and we did have cash with us. Was a relaxed atmosphere and will definitely return next time we are in Shrewsbury

Lovely place to enjoy a lunch and drinks

Was really excited to find this little place and give it a try. Lovely ambience and the food and drinks were fine but when I came to pay was told “sorry it’s cash only” and “it says so on the tables” …Well it says so right at the bottom of an A4 sheet in small lettering so not exactly clear to be fair …when I asked why they had such an outdated cash policy I was told “the card machines don’t work because of the wi-fi yet strangely all the other traders inside had card machines ….go figure ….Anyway had to stand there and do a bank transfer which I’ve NEVER had to do because literally everyone takes card these days… All they needed to do was to say “by the way before you order it’s cash only” and I could have made a decision to stay (and go get some cash) or go elsewhere to somewhere that made it easier to do business. What I object to is that if you’re going to have a clearly archaic payment policy, not making it REALLY clear and then basically fudging a response which didn’t stack up. I understand many small business don’t want card machines because of the fees and that’s their choice but just make your policy really transparent if you don’t take them. No one wants a drama when they’re just trying to pay for their food.

Lovely 1st time there this Monday only had coffee. To early for lunch, but will return for one of there great range of paninis.

Visited today for a drink as it looked such a lovely place, ordered a coke and it come completely flat - not fizzy what so ever, so after telling the waitress we was then brought out another flat coke from the same bottle. If they cant correct the drinks then i would hate to know what the foods like, definitely will not be returning..

Strange location at the back of a very good furniture/furnishings shop. Actually quite a nice area. Good selection of cakes, fairly large menu including panini, jacket potatoes and a very well priced range of sandwiches with crisps and salad. Service friendly and prompt. No issues at all. Bit of a surprise that only taking cash but as I always carry a couple of notes just in case, no inconvenience.

Just delightful..comfortable setting indoors, small cafe, good seating arrangements, decorated lit xmas tree, setting the mood. food tasty, our breakfast preferences accommodated, bacon a little tough, and payment cash only without warning was only gripe. Highly recommend.

I have visited this cafe on a number of occasions and I am amazed that they are still in business. The food is ok, although cooked in a commercial by being precooked so that you need strong gnashers to get through some of the stuff. But the biggest bugbear is the fact that you sit at a table waiting for table service (as indicated at the table) and they make you wait for 15 - 20 mins before they deem you are worthy of being served. During this time you will see staff milling around behind the counter chatting and stacking plates, but what is amazing is the fact that the owner is stood there right by them!! On our last visit, and it will be the last visit, we got up to walk away with the owner right behind us. You would have thought the owner to ask you if things were ok, but he just looked past us. I asked him if he was the owner, which he confirmed, then pointed out that we were leaving as no one seemed interested in serving us. You would have expected the owner to apologise and deal with it...but no, a shrug of the shoulders! So, if you are not in a rush, and have strong teeth, and thick skin...this is the place for you.

Lovely tea shop but they have a cash only policy which is ridiculous, especially during these times of Covid when credit card only payments seem to rule. There is no signage to this effect nor at any time did the waitress mention it. On questioning, we were simply told it wasn’t possible for them to tell every customer nor did they want to put a sign up! The inconvenience of having to visit a cash machine and take the cash back was very annoying, especially to be greeted by a young lady at the counter who couldn’t have been more disinterested in us or the effort we had made. There was no thank you or appreciation either. A real shame as the food and service were otherwise good and the environment is delightful. Someone needs to take note of all the other similar remarks posted here!

Came across this cafe by accident. Highly recommended, the menu had a good selection and great value for money. Only negative was they only take cash, which almost caught me out as I've had little cash on me since the start of the pandemic.

The food was very nice, although a rather slow service. When we went to pay we were told cash only! Surely this should be pointed out before taking an order, there were no signs anywhere that we could see. Not having enough cash meant a walk up into the town centre, cash out, walk back down to the cafe, then another walk back into town, taking a chunk out of our car park time! Also the table we were shown to had been cleared but we had to ask for it to be wiped.

Good coffee however, service could be quicker. It would be good to see a sign/be advised that they don't take cards when you order as otherwise this could be awkward. We couldn't see a sign anywhere, sorry if there was one.

Disappointed about cash only. Need contactless card!.

We came in today as a table of 4. Easily seated to a clean, pre sanitised table, The service was quick and we got met by very friendly staff. The food looked and tasted amazing and even as it got busier the staff kept up to speed. Thank you for a lovely experience.

We called here for a light bite dinner time,Greeted by one of the servers who quickly sanitised a table for 4 we ordered teas and sandwiches service was 1st class and food of same standard .We returned later in the afternoon to have cakes and tea which were excellent, my partner had the waffles and ice cream which proved to be the envey of the rest of table .Happy to recommend will definitely return .

What a lovely quaint cafe. Excellent food and drinks. Lovely staff. Easily seated with a quick walk around the shop as well. The only downside is they don't take card, cash only which in this day and age is a bit archaic

I absolutely love visiting the Village Coffee House, always a lovely atmosphere and great staff. You are always greeted with a smile! The food is amazing and always quick service. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a nice place to eat!

Had a teacake and pot of tea in Cafe here FINALLY the toilets are clean! Took a Covid situation...but at least they are pleasant to visit now.

This amazing cafe, in the centre of Listers is a great place for anyone! my husband and the kids enjoyed a brunch here with a great selection even for the kids. we sat by the fountain and we all really enjoyed the overall atmosphere. While we were eating, the cafe soon filled up with people of all ages from elderly friends to family’s with small children like ourselves.the staff handled having a full cafe wonderfully and always came over with a smile, nothing felt uncomfortable to ask for and loved the experience.can’t wait to come and visit again :)

I love visiting here! I had a great time, the staff were very lovely 😁 I normally have the tuna melt panini/ciabatta and it's always so good! I fully recommend the hot chocolate too 😉 The seating isnt too close together. Only improvement I would suggest. Is maybe cushions to go on the wooden seats? Just for when people are there for a while having a catch up and drink :)

It was the easy access that drew us in. But here is a little place with delightful ambience and good menu of snacks. There is also excellent coffee, specialty teas and home made cake! A good place to pause for refreshment. Nice staff too.

A friend and I had a day out in Shrewsbury and went to the Village Coffee Shop Had Eggs Benedict for lunch. Absolutely superb and reasonably priced. We go every time we visit Shrewsbury. Owner and staff very pleasant and helpful.

I have today been for lunch here and how lovely it was. Having not worked in town for some 10 years that's how long it is since I've been here. I can honestly say I can't believe I'd forgotten about it - everything was as great as it always was and it was packed, thankfully a table were leaving on our arrival. Very reasonably priced and excellent service. I will 100% return when I'm next in town at a lunch time.

Visited today, ordered a Turkey, stuffing and cranberry panini, very disappointed with the filling, couple of very tiny pieces of Turkey and the rest was mayonnaise. Don't think I'll be going back.

Wonderful little cafe in the middle of a lovely furniture store, creating a great atmosphere. Good prices and a wide selection of tasty sandwiches, paninis, drinks cakes and even full meals too! Friendly staff top it off as the best cafe I've been to in a long time.

Popped in for a breakfast sandwich and a coffee. Decent price and good selection of cakes available. The place is in the middle of a quite interesting furniture/ lifestyle/ accessories store which is also worth a good mooch around. Will return.

Located within Listers a beautiful furniture and trinkets and throws shop. We were visiting the area and met a friend at the Village Coffee house. Amazing hot chocolate I opted to go without the cream and marshmallows as I was having a cake! It came with sprinkles of dark chocolate and gold glitter!The lemon and poppy seed cake was deliciously moist, scones came in various options and the earl grey in a glass tea pot (would have liked to see it as a loose leaf than a bag in the glass pot)Plenty of seating, we sat by the water fountain, bit drafty as it was a 2degree day in February, but were warm enough in scarves.Definitely will be back next time we visit.Leave you with the note off our table 'Stressed is Desserts backwards'
