Viet Garden is hands down the best Vietnamese restaurant I’ve ever been to in my life. The food is phenomenal, the service is fast and kind, and the prices are reasonable for the very high quality of food.

400 quids worth of party food, mainly in the bin; they may be OK as a restaurant but they cannot do a simple party order. Destroyed dry tofu and overcooked inedible chicken satay - difficult to eat rolls. Guests couldn't eat it. Overcooked. Insanely overpriced for what it was. If you can't do it, Viet Garden, don't say you can

Visited Monday evening, ordered straight away and the food was amazing! Sadly the service was not. No fault of the waitress as she was on her own, which meant she didn’t have the time to move our used dinner plates and bowls on our table so when dessert arrived we had to make space. Hopefully our next visit will be more pleasant

I love this place! The food is so delicious. Everything is made in house and is super super fresh. We live in SE London but we travel to Angel to dine there and it’s so worth it. Ive celebrated my birthday there, my wedding anniversary and went there for gatherings with friends. Everybody loves it. The quality of the food is consistently high. Few time we couldn’t finish our meals as the portions were generous but we were offered take away boxes without even asking for it. Fantastic Vietnamese food with a modern twist. This place is our family favourite and a must visit if you want value for your money!

This friendly local family-run Vietnamese restaurant serves up excellent Vietnamese cuisine from its location on a quiet street in Islington. I have been visiting since it opened in the early 2000s and they consistently produce delicious food such as the golden pancake, salt & pepper squid, grilled fish with ginger sauce, soups and noodles dishes. The redecoration has smartened the look. Highly recommended.

Viet Garden is a lovely little restaurant close to Angel station. We'd always wanted to try Vietnamese food beyond just pho, and enjoyed everything we had here. I think my favourite was the stewed pork with its deep, rich flavourful gravy, redolent with aromatics. To be honest, everything that we tried was really good. We did of course also try the pho, and went with the Ha Noi version with flash fried beef. It had a wonderfully fragrant broth, and was immensely satisfying. Friendly staff, welcoming ambience and fantastic, authentic food at reasonable prices - what more could you ask for? It also has a very interesting cocktail menu, which unfortunately we didn't try as we were there too early in the evening, but definitely earmarked for a return visit in the near future!

We’ve visited the restaurant few weeks ago and we were so pleasantly surprised. I’m a professional chef, my husband is in the hospitality business so usually we don’t get impressed easily. We’ve ordered many different things because there were a lot of us and everything we’ve tried was prepared perfectly, with fresh ingredients. The staff was very attentive without being annoying. I had jasmine tea which was great, we had wine with the dinner which was a delicious Argentinian wine. Delicious food, good prices. My only advice will be to cut down on the portions as a lot of it goes to waste. I can highly recommend the place as I really like the level of food. Everything was made as authentic as possible. We are definitely going back! Highly recommended.

What a amazing gem in london . It’s one of the best Vietnamese restaurant I have dined in a very long time. Being British Vietnamese, food and culture is such a big part in my life . So I’m extra critical when it comes to Vietnamese cuisines. This restaurant is so wonderful from the delicious foods, decor, atmosphere and the friendly and welcoming staffs. Here you have a wide range of options if you are vegetarian, pescatarian or like myself where food is life. I had my birthday dinner recently and it was just perfect. The foods were delicious, my friends and family were so impressed with everything. I cannot recommend enough that everyone should try out this restaurant then you will be hooked.

Our first visit to a Vietnamese restaurant. Many dishes were recognisable variations of the ones found at Chinese restaurants, but tasting very different with local spices and fish sauce. The food was fresh and very tasty, with generous portion sizes at good prices. The waiter was very helpful and friendly. The decor is modern, but a little tired in places, although it still has a good feel. It was noticeable that quite a few diners were known to staff, so that suggests a good and loyal customer base. All in all a very good experience.

Good dishes, with flavour, and aromas. I ordered the Bun Hue which was quite good, but a little too spicy to my taste. This small Viet place is up the relatively quiet Liverpool Road away from busy Upper St. Looks great after a recent renovation and the food remains authentic with a good vegetarian choice. As a Viet, I often take nước mắm sauce as a barometer of how authentic or western bending a restaurant wants to be. Our crispy tilapia came with a good mango fish sauce correctly made stronger to accompany the fish as opposed to being a dipping sauce.A shaking beef salad had well judged seared cubes of meat and tamarind prawns were tender and juicy. A rare beef phở had a more robustly flavoured stock than at the 'Pho' chain restaurant on Upper Street. It's a little way up the road from Angel but worth the walk for the value, food and friendly service. Also much less bustle, away from the madding crowds of Upper Street. Unless you like that kind of thing of course.

So happy to have found this newly renovated and friendly Vietnamese restaurant. Excellent pho, soups (highly recommend the roast duck with egg noodle soup) and crispy spring rolls - can't wait to try other items on the extensive menu. Lovely service, and a nice (new) interior (much nicer than the old photos on this review - will try and add some next time I visit!). We go there fairly often, and always find it a good place to come back as it serves one of our favourite dishes - Bun Xa with squid and prawns. This dish is something we've never been able to recreate at home. It is an unpretentious place, often very quiet, but the food has never let us down. It is so much better than the chain restaurants available on Upper street as it feels more personal. It is reasonably priced too with the main dishes averaging about £8-9.

This is an unpretentious restaurant with a rather bland interior. Not a place for a lingering romantic meal but it does capture the spirit of real Vietnam. We were welcomed by the host from Saigon and the food was served quickly although to be fair the restaurant was almost deserted on a Tuesday night. The summer rolls were good and the chicken cashew nut tasted rather ordinary but nevertheless enjoyable. Overall we paid £55, including service, for 4 so it represents good value. Not to mention the menu is 10-20% more expenses than the average Vietnamese. The pho is an average at most, broth is full of MSG. Summer rolls are no way as fragrant as it could be. The stir fries are like your standard Chinese takeaway with bought sauces from cash and carry, and very greasy. Underwhelmed, so much so that I had to write my first Tripadviser review! I have little against a restaurant with unprepossessing décor and furnishings. When the food on offer is as nondescript as the surroundings, I do take issue.I’ll describe the Goi cuon (summer rolls) and then explain why it’s best left at that. These lumps of rubber-wrapped carbohydrate with barely discernible hints of prawn and vegetables and any fresh herbs were dull and lifeless. The dipping sauce which came alongside was a fatty, peanut gloop which did nothing to raise the spirits. All that followed was ill-judged and poorly cooked. Essentially, there were no hits of vibrant flavour or attempts to create any textural variety. It is quite a while since I have resented paying the price of my meal. We were with family and friends. Thanks to them we were able to make the best of it and put this down to experience. Any suggestion that we were being offered authentic Vietnamese cooking would be a travesty. Please avoid this place - there is much better on offer elsewhere.

Being a native of Vietnam myself, I can't agree more with a previous reviewer that the food here is definitely NOT Vietnamese. In addition to the rather depressing outdated decor, the food is a derivative of bad greasy Chinese food, quite reminiscent of food from an inferior Chinese take-away. Vietnamese cuisine stands alone in its balance of delicate spices, light flavour and healthy ingredients, combined with clever use of fresh herbs. Nothing of this can be found here. The Vietnamese food range on offer at Marks & Spencer is of higher quality! Bon appetit.

Garson kıza ulaşabildiğimde çorbaların her an hazır olabileceği bilgisi aldık.Çorbalar geldi.

We have been going to this restaurant ever since it opened - before all the rave reviews and the requirement to book weekend evenings. Now that we have moved away from London, we can visit only on rare weekend trips back to Islington. After a pretty average experience a few months ago which we chalked up to an off day, we went for lunch a couple of days ago. It is sad to report that there is little of the old place left - the salt and pepper squid was dry and overcooked (from frozen perhaps). The crispy duck was just ok. We chose a bun hue and chicken with lemon grass as main courses - both distinctly average. But the most disappointing was the change in the staff. Whereas we are used to a smiling, warm welcome, our server could not have been colder or disinterested. She didn't smile once during the whole meal. It is very sad to report this but it loks like this restaurant is resting on its laurels. There are plenty of good Vietnamese places in nearby Kingsland Road and even the dreaded Upper St has some great new places. If things do not improve at the Viet Garden it won't be around for too much longer.

My husband and I are huge Vietnamese food fans – having been spoilt in Melbourne, we have been searching for a great place in London since we arrived. We’ve tried the Shoreditch restaurants – VietGrill (stylish but not authentic) and Tay Do – ok and the best so far, and have seen mixed reviews on Viet Garden but had a great referral which convinced us to give it a go.Walking in (8.30 booking sat night)– not a single Vietnamese diner – alarm bells ringing, but hey maybe it’s the area. The place smells great, a nice restaurant and the waitresses are busy but lovely.Entrée – duck pancakes (I know, should have known then – this was recommended so gave it a go) dry but OK duck, served with cold pancakes. Arrived about 9.20(!) Squid didn’t show up, and we chased sometime around 10. 2 waitresses serving the whole place were literally running, tables not being cleared, tables being turned over with a quick wipe using a dirty napkin from the last table. Utter chaos for which they did apologise a lot (they were both lovely but completely understaffed).Mains – honestly, I swear there just cannot be a Vietnamese person in that kitchen. Fried seabass floating in some sauce, special fried rice with curry powder in it (honestly!!!) which I couldn’t eat, and my hot and sour soup… let’s just say it was chicken stock/broth, with some chilli flakes on top. Not hot, not sour – I ate the rice noodles and left the rest. Seriously, buy a packet mix if you have to.If you are English and don’t like spicy food and/or have not had Vietnamese before, this could be for you (which explains the clientele). If you want light, flavoursome Vietnamese – you know, chilli, fish sauce, lightly flash fried goodies and amazing soups this is not for you. We were there for 2 hours – you know Vietnamese food is usually highly efficient (to the point of seating the next guests with you) when it’s done right.Maybe it was a bad night, maybe they had staffing issues. Do yourselves a favour and turn away tables if that’s the case.

Viet Garden is just around the corner where I live. However, it took a while to discover this little gem. The ambiance is not stylish (like most other places in Islington) and it can happen that you have a large family dining with you. However, the food is really good, tasty and fresh! I haven't been in Vietnam, so I cannot say if it is authentic, but this places serves one of the best asian cuisine around. The dishes are traditional, not fancy.

A place to visit for the very good traditionally cooked Vietnamese food. The decor is functional rather than aesthetic so it's a place to come to eat rather than to linger. I agree with the reviewer that the staff are young and friendly. At times the service can be a bit slow and they have a curious tendency not have their full range of beers in stock (there's only a list of about 5 to begin with). I'd recommend this restaurant to people who live nearby and want a good meal in a casual relaxed...

This hidden away restaurant looks completely unprepossessing - but venture in. The food is fresh tasting & delicious. There's a wide choice of dishes including whole fish, sharp Vietnamese salad & coconut curried tiger prawns. Staff are gracious & you can have a speedy meal or linger.Only drawback is that sometimes there are loud large parties - but it's worth it!

none of the glitz & glamour of upper street. just unapologetic fresh delicious food at incredible value. so good in fact, that even devout anti-spicy aficionados will tolerate chile in the mouthwatering chicken soup. for a true culinary experience try the pork kho or the crispy squid in tamarind sauce.

This restaurant's food is fabulous. The unassuming decor and casual atmosphere is is a relaxed environment in which to enjoy the big bold fresh flavours and fast service (by polite Vietnamese staff). Highlights of the menu include (yes I have been there numerous times!) Summer rolls, pork kho, crispy squid in tamarind sauce and hot and sour soup. This place offers fantastic value for money, especially in an area where other restaurants seem to be putting their prices up all the time. I am a local and this is my favourite restaurant - ENOUGH SAID!

Vinam Café is no longer. In its place, a Chinese/Thai takeaway. We had sugary seaweed, beansprouts suspended in an inert medium and a thai gloopy brown curry (the menu said green). They couldn't even do fried rice properly, it was overcooked. Avoid!

Hands down the best Vietnamese food in London. Service is always impeccable and chef Thuy never fails to cook up a storm. The beef pho and lemongrass chicken are must try's as well as the home made cocktails! I can't recommend The Little Viet Kitchen highly enough.

Nice flavorful pho, not too salty. The vermicelli with lemongrass beef is also very good
