CUSTOMERS TALK ABOUT DISHES WITH..chickencurry

comment_iconOpinions

They offered some regional dishes that we had not seen elsewhere which were very good. Our expectations were low because it was listed as a take-out but it was raining and we didn't want to travel about looking for another place. It was a birthday dinner for the old man (father/grandfather) in our group. We were very pleasantly surprised. We had seating in a quiet spot downstairs which was nice and the service and food were good.

I tried this restaurant expecting some good Indian cuisine. But experience was behind expectation. The service also has scope to be better.

Si puedes ir a ningún otro sitio, no vayas.

A small restaurant but the food was lovely and the service was as you might expect, efficient but without any great frills. Poppadoms came with three dips, drinks were served promptly. The rogan josh was just the right balance of spices, as was the chicken jalfrezi. The prawn curry looked good but a bit thin. Additional rice was no problem and came quickly.

It was a late after theater evening, pouring rain and yet, we found this sweet little restaurant near the Royal National Theater. The food was good, inexpensive and a find at that hour of the night. I'd definitely go back.

If you aren't fussy re quality but want a quick meal prior to the show across the road, then I wouldn't recommend this place. Food was bland and very oily. Service was good and the staff attentive. The place is so small the waiter constantly brush against your chairs to get past. We had a couple of poppadums each - no massala available, a pulao rice, a main chicken curry and two veg. with a beer and water it came to over 28 pounds. Far too expensive! The receipt says 'finest indian cuisine' As they say - don't believe everything you read.

We found ourselves looking for a meal at 10:45pm near Victoria Station. It's not in the least glamorous but we enjoyed it - the food was fresh, the staff were eager to please and it was well priced. We could have done a lot worse.

Probably the worst curry I've ever had! My colleague and I met up at Victoria and, fancying a curry, picked this place out at random mainly due to the convenient location. We should have suspected something was wrong when the pickle tray turned up with one dip missing and it took 2 requests and several minutes for our waiter to grudgingly bring it, by which time we'd nearly finished the poppadums. The main courses were no better - very salty, lukewarm and clearly reheated in a microwave. Hardly any depth of flavour and could in all probability come out of a tin. By this time the place was empty about from us and a weird lone customer who spent his time eavesdropping on our conversation and breaking wind. When we paid the waiter took our money and had to be prompted before bringing the change. Needless to say, there was no tip!

Avoid at all costs! We thought this was a convenient place to visit as it was across the road from the theatre we were attending. When we walked in we were sat millimetres from the table next to us in a grotty little place that resembled someones shed. Make sure you check out the dust on the fan, I didn't think it was possible for so much dust to accumulate in one place. While we were waiting for our starters to arrive the mute waiter served the main courses to the table next to us and proceeded to knock a full pint all over the man dining with his partner. Our starters arrived I went for the Sheek Kebab and my partner went for the tandoori chicken. My starter was cold and the tandoori chicken tasteless. On to the main course. My partner had a lamb rogan josh which was ok but quite oily. My main was chicken shashlick. To start with I thought it tasted ok but then i proceeded to cut open the chicken and was presented with completely raw pieces of chicken. We complained and not really offered any sort of apology they just took the plate away. We then came to pay and feeling generous the waiter had removed £1 off the price of my main meal for a completely unedible main course. I stated I was not willing to pay for any of my main course and the waiter said he would go up to £5 maximum discount. I again re-iterated I would not be paying for any of it and the waiter stormed off and a different waiter returned and slammed the plate down with the main course price removed. We paid the remaining amount and left without leaving a tip. No-one apologised again on our departure. If your looking for a grubby, unhygienic, souless place to eat then the Victoria Tandoori restaurant is the place for you. Oh food poisioning the day after capped it all off!

I felt I had to write a review as I was very apprehensive about going here given the two previous reviews. The restaurant looks nothing special from the outside and decidedly shabby on the inside. The staff seem friendly enough and attentive, though we were the only 3 people in there at the start of our meal.We went there as it was a convenient meeting place from work and transport home etc.The popadoms arrived promptly with a white tray of three sauces, so far so good.We hadn't seen our friend for a long tome so we were chatting lots but they did not hurry us.We ordered 2 chicken and 1 lamb curry, 2 rice and 1 naan and they did us spinach on the side which was not on the menu as we didn't want it with potatoes. The food was amazing, the flavours were fantastic.I would certainly recommend and will definitely be going back.

I rarely feel moved to write online reviews but the "curry" I have just suffered merits a warning to others to avoid this place. As if spending Saturday night in the office was not bad enough, having this for my tea has just capped it off. A vegetable dhansak - my go-to dish so I know approximately what to expect - featured a few vegetables swimming, drowning even, in so much oil that even after mixing the dish there was still a layer on top. If one had been available, then a seive was probably the only thing that might have made the dish vaguely palatable. The naan bread was, by contrast, very good - but of itself not enough to justify getting no change from a tenner for it and the curry. For those who, quite rightly, expect a restaurant to be given the benefit of the doubt that they may have suffered a rare "off night", be warned that this was the trip back to test that theory after a previous visit was almost equally as disappointing. Nor, either time, was the poverty of the food quality offset by any generosity of service which was at best disinterested.

We headed here for a rushed meal as there was an issue with the train home. The place is a bit run down and lacks any sort of ambience. The chutney tray that arrived looked like it had been passed around a few tables before getting to ours, so I asked for a fresh one. The owner wasn't for swapping it until I lifted if off the table and handed it to him. He reluctantly took them and basically decanted them into fresh pots, then returned and said he'd been in business there 43 years (good to know) as if that justified him handing out 3rd-hand chutney trays. My wife had a Jalfrezi and I had a Tandoori mixed grill - these were ok. The ambience took a new low towards the end of the meal, as we were the only ones left, so the owner and waiters sat 2 tables away and broke out a copy of The Sun. :o) That tickled me.Anyhow, tip\gratuity = zero. The moment I put the cash on the table, they carefully counted it and took it away. I wonder if they'll last another 43 years.

The woman that welcomed my family was delightful. The experience was good but the food was ok, and it was quite expensive. The quiche was cold, and the scones didn't seem fresh.
