Fanstastic little family run place. Food and service was first class at very reasonable prices anywhere let alone London. Well worth a visit

... for Covent Garden. Stopped here for a quick lunch and opted for a table indoors. Very atmospheric and deliciously tasty food with wickedly spicey seekh kebab. Would definitely seek it out if we return.

I went here on my two day trip to London, and I'm not sure what all the bad reviews are about! The food was absolutely amazing, nothing wrong with it, and the drinks were also breathtaking! I highly recommend this restraunt, it is also located in a quiet and cosy place.

Came to grab a bit here the other afternoon/evening, a close friend of mine had raved on about their food to me and a hot waiter to keep my eyes out for (I’m single I’m allowed!) The place is very quirky, great concept, décor is beautiful… there was seating outside which I thought was for this place too but the waitress was more than pleased to tell me (and I type this word for word) “Outside seating other place you want it go eat there”. Despite being taken aback by her abruptness and ridiculous response to a simple question I still went in and sat down and asked her will she take our order or should we come to the till. She told us she will come over. Whilst we were sat there scanning over the menu we must of got engrossed in our own conversation which we thought was perfectly fine and in actual fact is perfectly fine because we are customers and she should be welcoming us (as well as us thinking she was coming to take our order), she then approached us and told us if we want food order now otherwise its very busy someone else can have our seats! This was completely out of order as we explained to her we were waiting for her to come and take our order she said “not that kind of place madam come to front to order” my friend was then somewhat angered so explained to her in more simple terms that she told us she would take our order so that’s the only reason we were still sat down she rolled her eyes and tutted so hard and said okay then I take order here for you what do you want – which wasn’t even my friends argument! We were just explaining why we were still sat down. She took our order, the food came and it was absolutely delishhhhh! Ignore the other reviews on here I was more than satisfied with the food! We both had naan rolls with chicken! So tasty! I would have ordered another until the other waitress walked by and just moved my bag with her foot under my table. At this point I got so angry and her response was “it was in way if you don’t want this then keep out of way” at this point I just angrily paid the bill and left. Don’t know who the waiter is didn’t even get a chance to see him but these waitresses were awful! No hosting skills whatsoever! Honestly ruined the whole experience for me! Asides from that the food and place itself is a hidden gem! Such a shame that my experience was this otherwise i would return in a heart beat. Might have to see if they do take-away options and do that next time because the service is a let down... other than that it's brilliant!

Stopped here for lunch on a very sunny Sunday when all the restaurants with outdoor seating were packed. It is very nicely decorated and I was pleasantly surprised at the menu prices. We had Naan rolls - Chicken Tikka and Lamb Shashlik - and I ordered an iced coffee which was delicious, my companion ordered one of the fresh juice combinations which was also lovely. It was quite busy, but the tables are spaced far enough apart that we didn't feel cramped and we could hear the music. Only grumble was that I had to ask three times for the bill.

I had actually forgot about this place until I was looking trough photos of me in London and rendered the terrible experience. The staff were so rude and unpleasant that I actually considered walking away without paying! The interior is lovely and I think this place could do well as it is situated in a great area. They just need decent staff who know how to smile and be attentive to their customers. I'm a waitress and if I gave service like that I would have been fired on the spot!

I've never posted on Trip Advisor before, but after feeling that I was genuinely bullied by the staff here today I felt moved to warn others away from such a horrible place. I went here today with friends who were visiting London and I felt utterly embarrassed that we wasted our time and money on this terrible place. We all ordered hot drinks from their menu, and were immediately told by the waitress that we should order food because "this is a very busy place and people who want to eat will want to sit here" (there were three empty tables nearby and everyone in the cafe only had drinks infront of them). When our hot chocolates arrived they were cold and slammed down, & we were immediately asked to pay up. Throughout our 5 minutes sitting there, we were continually asked if we could order food and if we were ready to leave yet, and as soon as I finished my drink it was snatched away from me. When it came to payment I was told that it was a minumum £10 charge, & when I said I didn't have cash I was told "ask your friends for it, then". The other customers were receiving the same experience and were similarly outraged. I would avoid this place like the plague, please don't waste your money on this bullying and over-priced (hot chocolates were nearly £4) establishment.

Great location and looked very inviting. However, the overpriced and cold food was extremely unappetising (my girlfriend had to go for lunch again elsewhere..), and the staff were rude and inattentive. Soft drinks are priced at £3 ('that's just Covent Garden prices') even though this is not mentioned anywhere on the menu. I have never written an online review before but felt compelled to do so now. The mint lassi was fine.

I visited Cafe Chutney on Saturday the 8th with my cousin and her boyfriend. This cafe looked promising as it was located downstairs in Covent Garden Market and was nicely decorated. Unfortunately the service was poor we were looked at strangely for not ordering immediately and were warned off having tap water with our meals as the water supply was supposedly not very good. Our food then arrived and we were unimpressed, I ordered a mushroom curry which tasted nothing like a curry and was closer to stroganoff. My main was accompanied by plain rice, a lacklustre salad and 1 poor quality poppadom. We were then told that we would have to pay 50p to use their toilet and directed to go to another restaurant upstairs to use theirs. All in all a bad experience.

Such a happy find one evening after a show. Great to find somewhere different in this location. The chicken tikka naan is delicious. So much so that my son and I have been on both our (rare) visits to London since to repeat the experience. The carrot, ginger and ?lime juice is perfect to refresh a jaded tourist. We found the service very friendly and were offered a free extra juice to taste. Shame there isn't a loo, but there is a public one near.I only wish there was a branch in Brighton.

My beautiful girlfriend and I chose this place to have our lunch. It had a very warm and welcoming atmosphere for the customers. It also had a very authentic indian feel to the place from the interior design and decorations inside. My girlfriend had the vegetarian briyani which was mildly spiced, but tasty and a decent portion for lunch. I, myself had the non vegetarian option which was the chicken tikka masala with rice. The dish didn't have the authentic indian flavour at all but instead felt very britishised. Another major issue was that the in the chicken tikka there were only 3 small chicken pieces which was very disappointing for the price of the dish. Overall, I felt the staff were very friendly, the atmosphere of the restaurant was very good but the food standard was pretty poor.

This place has a nice atmosphere and is in a good location. Apart from this, it's not got much else going for it. The staff were incredibly rude to us, and ignored us for the first five minutes. When we eventually served the food and desserts were clearly out of date and tasted disgusting. We asked for a replacement but the manager was downright rude and told us that we were wrong in a patronising five minute lecture. We also witnessed other customers receive similar treatment. I'd avoid it at all costs.

Popped In here this afternoon with my husband, who isn't usually an Indian food fan (unlike me). The front of house lady/waitress/manager was extremely pleasant and warm. We both had the chicken tikka and rice and I can honestly say it was one of the nicest Indian dishes I've ever had, my husband agreed and we ate every single grain of rice. The sauce was very rich and quite mild and the chicken tender. Unpretentious lovely atmosphere.

After having some tea with friends the waitress came and asked in a rude manner to pay immediately and leave the table since we had just finished our drinks and we did not get anything to eat.. The way she treated us was rudiculously rude while for first time in London I experienced such a treatment. If I could advise something about my experience then please stay away from these people and spend your money somewhere where they will behave you as human beings.

We went there for a quick snack today I just can't press enough the fact that it was really an horrible meal.It is an insult to indian food, the dhali was just an incredible association of rice crispies with potatoes yoghurt and a sort of BBQ sauce, it was really disgusting. The chickent tikka wraps were the worst I tasted in my entire life. The deserts were clearly out of date. One advice don't go in this place I can't believe they had clients.

We were looking for somewhere to snack and four of us found this place right in the old Covent garden building. It felt very genuine and the ambience was authentic. The service was good and the food quite tasty, we had a selection of starters so I couldn't comment on the mains. There is no toilet the restaurant but the place next door allowed the diners to use theirs. It is convenient and worth a go.

I took my mum for mother's day treat, for breakfast. Ordered aloo paratha, and halwa poori breakfast. We waited 30mins or so to be told that they didn't have aloo paratha, as they had run out of allo prep, they had to preapre it. And it wasn't busy at the restaurant at all when we went, around 11am. Then we said just give us the halwa poori, in which we only got chana and halwa and not the allo vegetable. Overall the service is very slow, no apologies and their standard of cooking is not stable, keeps on changing.

Me and my daughter came for a meal after watching Pretty Woman!Poppadum and chutney tray we’re delish! Disappointed no hot plates for main sides! Half tandoori chicken tasted great! Sides not worth £8.95 each! Service charge already on the bill - the waiter had the cheek to ask if we wanted to leave a tip??? Kind of ruined the experience !!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They offered some regional dishes that we had not seen elsewhere which were very good. Our expectations were low because it was listed as a take-out but it was raining and we didn't want to travel about looking for another place. It was a birthday dinner for the old man (father/grandfather) in our group. We were very pleasantly surprised. We had seating in a quiet spot downstairs which was nice and the service and food were good.
