We have recently moved to Colchester and one of the best things about that is being a few minutes walk from The Vic. Consistently great beer, excellent bar staff and overall everything a pub should be.

Recently had the great pleasure of drinking here after a very long drive and OMG what a gorgeous pint of Kernel! Cracking old school pub with superb beer, lovely locals and jovial landlord. This is what pubs should be like👍 Loads of great cask beer, great keg and great fridge stock. The only problem is it’s several hundred miles away from me!

The team at this pub have created an ideal ambiance to quaff superb ales and to chat through some important, but mostly less important chatter. Trying to keep this place as secret as I can.

Lovely pup. Traditional friendly and more. If outdoor smoking is banned in designated smoke areas will be a disaster. We all have our reasons .mine go back decades to a particular nightmare situation which is with me today to take away this vice is to the detriment of mental health and much more.

Had a brilliant night in the Vic. Was travelling on my own and couldn't help but make mates in the fantastic outside area. The bartender was extremely friendly and helped recommend some of the finest ales I've had on my trip. It was also open mic night, which meant loads of great music. Will absolutely return next time I'm in Colchester.

Recently started coming to the Victoria Inn more regularly, having previously popped in very occasionally for a quick pint. This place is my new ‘local’. Reasonably priced drinks with a friendly relaxed, atmosphere. There’s a great choice of beers and cider, definitely something for everyone. They even offer a loyalty card.

This is a town pub on North Hill. It's got a reasonable beer garden, including a covered area with some seats. Service was pretty good, beer was OK with an OK choice. Atmosphere is somewhat lacking - feeling like a local pub for locals rather than somewhere to meet up with friends and have a drink.

This is a complicated one to score to be fair. Upon a quick stop off in Colchester near the station, I was attracted to The Magnet but it didn’t open until much later. First impressions of The Victoria weren’t too bad with a friendly young bar lass and a decent selection of unusual lagers and plenty of ales. Upon further inspection the yellow jumpered old boys from the ‘Victoria Inn old gits club’ sent alarm bells ringing. Given they made up most of the clientele and were just a bit hostile to anyone who wasn’t part of the ‘club’ it felt like boomer central and one to drink up and leave. It’s a shame really as the pub has potential and these guys haven’t got that long left, so should embrace any new blood to keep the place going once they pass. The young bar girl was nice though and I’m not sure why she bothers! That justifies the extra star as two would normally suffice for such a place, despite the good selection of beer which was all quite reasonably priced. Once the old boys have gone I’m sure it’d be great. Luckily I don’t need to hurry back to the area!

A welcoming, traditional pub, full of friendly staff, locals and newcomers alike. Great variety of beers, ales and ciders always on offer along with some tasty bar snacks (the chilli nights are ridiculously good!) No other 'pub grub' available, but anyone who would like to bring a take away in from outside, is welcome to enjoy it with their pint. Fortnightly live music on a Sunday along with pub quizzes, film nights, and other entertainment dotted throughout the calendar. All in all, a friendly 'proper pub' I would wholeheartedly recommend.

Great local beers and micro brewery treasures on rotation. You won't find Carlsberg Guinness or Strongbow here and all the better for it. Lovely staff aided by the newly installed owner/manager Richard. Live music on a Sunday and numerous 'events' ( beer festival, quiz nights etc.) throughout the year. It's an escape from the homogenous rubbish we get served up these days. A proper pub for proper people. Love it!

The Victoria Inn is a free house pub situated within walking distance of Colchester train station and the town centre. My train wasn't for another hour so I popped in for a few pints, I had the local 'Maverick' lager which was decent. The pub also has a sizeable beer garden out the back. The barman was also kind enough to let me charge my phone as I didn't have mine with me. I would definitely recommend if you're in Colchester looking for a friendly traditional pub.

One of the best pubs in Colchester and the area. Cozy and traditional with a fantastic range of changing craft and cask beers and friendly chatty staff. Not sure if this place does hot food but bar snacks are available. Nice looking scotch and other whiskeys available as well as wines, ciders, lagers etc... Nice range of Belgian beers also available too. Time passes very quickly in here. Short walk from both Colchester (mainline),Colchester Town stations and the town centre. Will definitely return. Had brunch in the cafe yesterday, a sausage and bacon sandwich with a pot of tea for one. The tea was weak, even after leaving to brew, the sandwich was cold and greasy. Unfortunately with a friend who doesn't like to complain but definitely not a pleasant experience. I will not be repeating the experience

WOULD BE GREAT IN THE SUMMER BUT NOT IDEAL FOR A WINTER SPA. the positive points: the house and grounds are stunning, well maintained to a very high standard. The staff are exceedingly attentive and friendly. Unfortunately the negative points: The check in is great and the lounge and fire are gorgeous, we were shown to our deluxe suite, which lived up to the expectations visually. However we were directed to the spa, which is a few hundred meters away from the main hotel. It was a freezing cold day and so we had to put coats and boots on and take all our swimming stuff across in a bag. Unfortunately we did not realise that all spa facilities are outside. Luckily it was not raining otherwise it would have been a total waste of time. We ran to the jacuzzi which was only warm, definitely not HOT, we managed to stay in there for 5 mins before trying the steam room, which is tiny, with 4 of us in there it was not possible to lie down and other guests had to wait as there was no room when they tried to join us. We went inside for our treatments and when we came out we tried to sit in the outdoor lounge, with fire, but even with the hot water bottles and blankets provided it was just to cold to enjoy this area. We return to our room at 5 PM, we noticed that it was very cold in the room as well. I turned each individual radiator up to the maximum. However, after an hour, the radiators were still just tepid, not even warm. We asked reception and they were exceedingly helpful and could see we were getting ready for our meal at Mason talbooth and would look at it when we went out. This meant we had to get ready feeling very cold. We also noticed at this point that we wished to blow dry our hair after washing it and discovered that there was not a dressing table with a mirror. Or at the bare minimum a plug point near a mirror, we had to blow dry our hair sitting on the floor with no reflection. I don't expect to be doing this in such a high-end establishment. We returned from our room after our meal and it was still cold. The receptionist explained that she had turned the boiler to the oil setting as the pellets did not seem to be working and this should solve the problem. Unfortunately as the room is so luxurious and large, the radiators were not sufficient to heat the room and all 3 of us had to sleep in thick pyjamas, socks and dressing gowns which was not conducive to a good night's sleep. Thankfully, this was not a romantic break as there would definitely have been no romance.!! So this place was great but we ere cold from the time we arrived until we left. I have emailed them 4 days ago, but have received no response

Just all around ace love this place, today had to get mine to go but nothing is a trouble, with meal deals over £5 now I do not begrudge £8 for their sandwiches so fresh, always a lovely salad and crisps even when you take away. Lovely quality, and great coffee too!
