V&G's Ristorante Italiano in New Forest

Excellent meal with fab wine. Went on a week night and what a delight. Service wasn’t fast but it was date night so didn’t care!

There I was, that random Saturday, risking the desire for proper food. And I mean 'good food'. Lush carvings of dulcet steak, lashed with a flavoursome source. Great Scott of the Arctic, and beyond... was I fulfilled with my desires. I love a decent steak and chips with a sauce of extreme excellence. Usually medium rare, with an emphasis on rare, cooked with au poivre sauce. I was off my bally trousers as I went in, but retained vertical position thanks to extreme focus, and the lack of funds to afford further beer. But I needed food. Good food. Food of the Gods food, and I felt no shame in doing a Neo from Matrix IV. For about half a weeks survival money, I bought a fillet steak thing with mushrooms in a creamy sauce of heroic, masterful goodness. I sat alone, as is my solo sadness, due to the ex being a cow, and the other more recent ex dying from cancer. Nevermind. I was more excited than I'd been in some time at the prospect of five star grub. And I got it, if you like well cooked meat. Which I do. I salivate over the mere thought of good food involving meat, and tonight, as our handsome waiter delivered the dish, I could see I was in for scrummy things. I attacked the mini mountain of beef with the assault level precision of a surgeon working for the SAS, and ate it with gusto. Great Scott and beyond, was I in edible Heaven. This wasn't drugs. This was food. And I did have a lot of Matrix feelings going on about morality, but felt justified to consume from the efforts of human love as God is not a vegan and respects class and taste. We know this, because there's no porn / filth in the scriptures. Thus like a pass over of one involving seriously succulent meat, I nearly became ecstatic with enthusiasm. But, being British, kept it under wraps. Even still, I wanted to get up and hug everyone involved, for such a beautiful, beautiful dish, that still lingers on my palate and stomach like a micro fortune well spent. Crack heads spend more than the cost of a fillet steak in one night of burbling their chronic brains of ignorance. The schism of class values is clear. V and G's, is holy kosher in the word of moral love... And I can't wait to eat there again. Lovely people of vision. Of class. And of style.

Despite booking we were shown to a table in what is probably an outside terrace in fine weather, the tables were not laid- not a good start. We were given menus and ordered our drinks. Shortly afterwards another server tried to take our drinks order but wasn’t interested in taking our food order. Eventually we tried to order but our selection was no longer available as ‘it didn’t work “ So take it off the menu if you don’t do it!! The starters were Ok but the pasta was really ordinary, expected so much more in an Italian restaurant. Quite expensive for what we had.

Fantastic food and great atmosphere service excellent. Steak is fabulous thoroughly recommend. Nothing too much trouble.

Went here for dinner family of 5 been before quite a few times but hadn’t been in a while. Food was 10/10 we all left saying how amazing the meal and service was. Always made very welcome and the lady waitress(from Ukraine) was lovely she noticed when our drinks were nearly empty and asked if we would like another and was so attentive she really is a gem. We all had prawn cocktail with avocado which was so fresh. Pizzas were great took some home and tried my mums meal which was the chicken in mushroom sauce which was delicious I will have that next time. Thank you all for the great food and service.

My wife and I went for a meal to celebrate our 25th (Silver) wedding anniversary. Things started ok, ordered the seafood sharing platter for starters. I had a pasta dish, my wife the lamb shank (at £25). The starter came and it was really very good. Here is the end of the good bits! My pasta dish was fine, nothing special, but perfectly fine. However, my wife's "slow cooked" lamb which should after 6hrs (as claimed) be falling off the bone, wasn't. In fact it couldn't be prised off of it! Unfortunately the waiter or manager checked on us quite soon after our meals were brought out. I said mine was fine but my wife stayed silent as she wasn't yet sure. But the time I'd eaten mine, my wife had given up with well over half of the lamb remaining on the bone. When he came over to clear the plates my wife said that she was unable to eat the lamb as it was so tough and sinewy still. He didn't seem very happy with us for saying anything negative about the food so she demonstrated to him and he finally agreed it shouldn't be like that and took the plate away. From then on we were pretty much ignored, no apology, no offer of a different dish or anything. After 20 minutes we were asked if we wanted desserts, at first we said yes - until we discovered there was nothing we wanted so asked for the bill. He took £9 off the bill for a £25 dish that my wife couldn't eat. Then when we said that we didn't expect to pay for that dish he argued with us and said my wife was wrong, there was nothing wrong with it and that it was our fault! Not wishing to completely ruin our anniversary, we paid and went elsewhere for a lovely dessert! We won't be back! Awful service, rude, arrogant manager, below average food.

This was going to be a treat by friends for looking after their dog for a few days and started off well,starters were ok, but two mains, risotto and salmon ravioli, we’re not very nice at all, and when we explained to the manager he just came up with excuses and seemed to infer we were wrong! We all had an espresso martini to finish, but they didn’t seem as good as the last time, weaker. The waitresses let themselves down a bit, one cleared plates while I was still eating, and another picked up a piece of cutlery she’d dropped on the floor, wiped it on the table cloth and added it to the setting she was laying! Our fiend asked for the bill and noticed the two bottles of wine hadn’t been added so told them, got a new bill but no word of thanks. Won’t be back I’m afraid, nothing special and too expensive

On visiting this restaurant twice in one month, both times were experienced by bad service, the first being that the side order did not arrive until half way through the meal and the second time, the starters that came were for a different table, so only 2 of our party had starters while the rest had to wait about 10 minutes for the right ones to come, also the menu needs updating as it advertises that they do gluten free pizzas, which is not the case and one member of our party is gluten and dairy intolerant so had to have a pasta meal instead which was not ideal, am sorry to say that we won’t be rushing back there anytime soon, that being said the meals we had were of good quality.

Nice place. Starters lovely, main courses had no taste at all. Love giving good reviews to restaurants but this was quite simply poor. Cooked better at home for a fraction of the price. Are we going to get a nasty reply for giving an honest opinion?!

Visited on Tuesday 02 May 2023 with a friend for dinner. Received a very warm welcome from the staff. Food was delicious, really tasty, hot and well presented. Also, really like that we had a decent amount of rest between starter and main. It was a quiet evening and the patron came and had a chat with us. While there an elderly couple came in, they were clearly local regulars and were a bit infirm, it appeared they had ordered food in advance. The staff set up a lovely table for them and it all had the feeling of a 'date' night. So very lovely. Highly recommend!!!

The best Italian restaurant outside of Italy! My husband and I went here for dinner when we were staying near Ringwood. We were so glad we chose this place as the food was so delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed it and their cocktails are great too. We couldn’t fault the service, they were so great.

Had a lovely meal with friends at this restaurant. It is a great place to go in Ringwood to meet up. We were there for alslmost 4 hours and had a lovely 3 course meal. We will hopefully visit again soon.

Food ok-ish, bit expensive for nothing special. Staff work well, but disappointed to find out that management keep the tips when the bill is settled with a credit card. Young lad (part-time waiter) who served us was brilliant, good repour, funny and made our evening. Shame the management consider part-time staff are not worthy of earning extra through gratuities... that's just bad practice. Won't be back.

As always very friendly staff greet you as you arrive excellent new menu with some old favourites, new sitting area outside with small bar and electric roof cover should it rain just can’t recommend this place enough

We have been loads of times before and always had a good experience. Today the service was poor, the food average and we were totally ripped off! 2 course lunch for 3 people, no alcohol - just under £90! Small l of diet coke £3.50!...

So, the website states takeaway/ home delivery is an option. We phoned up a week before to check out what exactly we should do for this service. The response ‘ no advance notice needed, just call on the night and order, allowing maybe 40 minutes notice’. So we planned for a nice meal at home on Saturday evening and as instructed called to order at 18.45, only to be told we are busy and are not doing takeaway meals. This left us in the rather interesting position of being dressed for a nice at home meal with no food. Thanks V&G for a super let down, we have eaten with you in the past and have always enjoyed the experience. However, if you’re saying you are offering food delivery, then that’s what you should be doing. We were looking to spend around £60 for what we thought would be a premium takeaway and based our plans accordingly. Given that we checked in advance this is simply not good enough.

Having been self-isolating for the past 20 years(or so it seems), we went to this restaurant for lunch. We were very pleasantly surprised with the quality of food and service and will be using it again. Only problem is the lack of parking in the area with only 1 hour allowed and no return wihin 2.

My husband and I visited here early August. The food and service all excellent. The only down side was that they sat another Family next to us when the entire restaurant was empty which did not make sense. Will definitely return once life returns to normal

Stumbled across the restaurant by accident when looking for somewhere to eat. Glad we did. Food was excellent as was the service. Only thing I would say is they should have a hand sanitiser station outside in this modern day and age but then again most people should also carry some. The pizza I had was amazing and my fussy girls loved the pasta dishes. Service was not rushed but at the same time we did not wait excessively for food to arrive.

No social distancing at all!!!!!!!! Food is lovely, however we had to leave when another family were put onto a table literally right next to us, so close chairs are touching. Be great when COVID is gone

Myself and my wife visited V & G’s last night. The food was delicious, my piccante Pizza one of the best pizzas I’d had in ages. My wife’s penne arrabiata was very nice, the house wine was lovely also. Looking forward to going again 🙂👍

A family member told us that the food here was exceptional, and gave us a voucher at Christmas so we could sample it ourselves. Unable to go during lockdown, V&G's kindly agreed to extend our voucher expiry until after they re-opened. It’s conveniently located in the town centre, with free evening parking right outside and during the daytime the free Waitrose car park is just a short walk away. From the outside it looks like any other nondescript building in the street, and inside is the same: no “Italian” feel at all. The seating area is L-shaped which means that waiters need to be extra vigilant to pick up all signals from diners, which they did not manage here. The tables are well spaced and the floor, though solid, is absorbent, so one is not aware of the conversations of the other diners. It is, perhaps, too quiet, because, in terms of ‘atmosphere’, there wasn’t any. The house red wine was surprisingly good, which is not always the case at restaurants. We also got a small bowl of mixed olives: my wife doesn’t eat these but she would have enjoyed a breadstick. The post-lockdown menu was more limited than usual, but featured many of the more popular dishes. The starters were over-priced and nothing special. By contrast, the mains we were superb. Quite simply, mine was the best piece of pork I have ever eaten: a generous size and cooked to perfection. My wife’s veal was similar. These arrived full 100 minutes after we sat down for dinner but added something really memorable to an otherwise slow and unimpressive meal. Desserts were OK. Just OK. It’s not just here, but why does Crème Brûlée not have a crispy top these days? As we waited for each course to arrive we were entertained with selections of popular Italian melodies. Does playing 'O Sole Mio' five times during dinner sound a bit unimaginative? When we finally finished, almost 3 hours after arriving, we got our bill very swiftly. In this we were luckier than the lady who had to get up and search for a waiter to get hers. For us, going out to dinner is an occasion: we like to be a bit pampered and find ways of enjoying ourselves, so we won’t be coming here again.

This was the best Italian we have had. The food was tasty, filling and served by a friendly member of staff.

I was in Ringwood for work and came in for dinner. The staff were very friendly and it felt like a real Italian restaurant. They gave me a complimentary garlic bread and olives whilst I waited for my main. I had Spaghetti Bolognese which tasted like an authentic Italian spag bol. All in all it the staff were very accommodating (even though it was just me eating) and I would come back should I be in Ringwood again.

We were recommended to this restaurant by a local well known *Roly Poly King* who said that he visits regularly so we thought that we would give it a try. As with previous reviews about this restaurant we found that the menu was varied and what we had was beautifully cooked and presented. Lovely setting although a little too bright for us however, outstanding and friendly service from all the staff.Would we go again yes we would, but slightly later as we noticed that all the regulars arrived between 8:30 and 9:00 and obviously missed all the early bird parties etc.

As we were staying with friends locally we decided to return to the restaurant having enjoyed our first visit last year. As before the service was friendly & the restaurant busy with a nice atmosphere. Overall we all enjoyed our food although it would have been good if they had a fish option other than the sea bass salad & there did not appear to be any daily specials as mentioned on the website. We would happily visit again but wonder if the menu changes as it seemed very similar to our previous visit.

Enjoyed a lovely evening celebrating a friend’s birthday, great atmosphere, excellent food and service. Will definitely be returning again soon. My starter of deep fried mozzarella and smoked salmon was delicious as was my perfectly cooked sea bass.

I got a 🍕 pizza with ham,parmesan shavings ,and a different type of ham .my mum got pasta with tomato sauce (the spicy one) and my dad got risotto.

This was an unplanned visit and, having just moved back to Ringwood, t was our first visit. The food was very tasty with good-sized portions. Prices are slightly on the high side but not unreasonably so the dishes are still good value.

Excellent meal. Service left a lot tonbe desired. Had to ask for pre-dinner drinks, then having ordered wine had to ask where it was. After a lovely meal offered complimentary liqueurs. Waited 20 minutes and they never materialised so we left! Should have complained but being truer Brits we didn't. Not an inexpensive evening. Not sure I would recommend it.

This is our favourite place to eat out in Ringwood- always great service, charming and friendly staff and importantly, delicious and authentic food.

We dine here fairly regularly and every visit has always been superb. The quality of the food whether at lunch time or in the evening is consistently good, and excellent value for money. This, along with the service and friendliness of the Italian family who run it make it my favourite restaurant in the area. In my opinion this restaurant stands out as one of the best.

Situated at a pleasant corner table we could enjoy people watching - a lovely mix of all ages, befitting of a restaurant with such ambience. Pre-dinner drinks were nicely presented and each of our 3 courses was pleasing both to the eye and on the palate. The locally sourced meat was cooked exactly as requested and the recommended wine pairing worked a treat. The space between courses was finely judged albeit the restaurant was not quite as full as we were expecting. We also found the hosts and staff attentiveness to be just right. The complimentary bread/olives and post dinner liqueur was a lovely touch. Our wallet was significantly lighter when we left but that was our choosing, it is perfectly possible to eat well and accordingly to your budget. A delightful evening and a pleasure to recommend this restaurant. We hope to be back again soon.

We each had 3 courses and they were all excellent. We had complimentary bread and olives and the service was good.

Have passed this restaurant on several occasions while visiting friends while on holiday. So glad we finally went. The food and wine were terrific. The service was not perfect, but we did not let this ruin our evening.

My friends and I received very poor service from the waiter, who Clearly had an “attitude” towards us, for no apparent reason as we were polite to him and everyone else (and to make things worst, one particular customer who was drunk and swearing was offensive towards us, even though we did not respond back).

Stumbled upon this fantastic little find by accident. Five of us for a late breakfast. Try the Italian ones they are fantastic. This is not your usual dodgy pseudo Italian place. Having eaten in Italy this is the real thing. Will definitely be going back to sample lunch and evening menus.

On a damp and drizzly evening there is nothing better than the atmosphere of a good Italian restaurant. This was our first visit but will certainly not be the last. The Tornados Rossini was superb. A first class meal.

The food here is excellent and so beautifully presented. The menu is very varied so there is something for everyone. The service was great. We'll go again, I'm sure.

Ate here tonight with a small part if friends. Advertised as catering for gluten free and vegan and 2 of us were both gluten free and vegan (both with allergies). As is typical with many restaurants that say they cater for both, they don't seem to cater for both combined, which is very common. However, they went out of their way to accommodate us - even bringing gluten free bread (which sadly wasn't vegan but it was a kind gesture). I had a delicious Mediterranean Risotto free of dairy and made with really crisp, fresh vegetables and my friend had gluten free, vegan (often they have egg in but dudn't thankfully) pasta with Mediterranean veggies which was also delish. Our meat eating friends all enjoyed their meals and desserts and the waiters were very patient with us and couldn't do enough. 4.5/5 stars. Really, very impressed with the quality, the flexibility and the fact they did their best to help. Grateful. Thank you V & G.

Visited on a Sunday and booked for 6.30pm so it was very quiet when we arrived. By 8pm the place was packed so obviously very popular. I thought the food was very authentic and the service was great.

The food was really fresh full of flavour combined with excellent service and great atmosphere thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Visited on Saturday with my family. The service was quick didn't have to wait long. Pleasant atmosphere and the choice and quality of food was 1st class. Highley Recommend.
