Usta Turkish Restaurant in The Vale of Glamorgan

Visited on a Monday night in September. Rezan my server was attentive without being intrusive. The food was divine, service excellent and ambiance far exceeded expectations.

Went here last night September 14th 2024 first time we visited and we were definately not disappointed. The service was excellent from the time that we walked through the door. The waiters were so friendly and helpful. Cocktails were fab and the food was lovely. Definately be returning very soon.

I adore Turkish cuisine and have visited the country several times in the last 23 years. From Istanbul to Antalya, Yalikavak and Kuşadası to Ölüdeniz. So I thought it was time to dine in the rare Barry Island sunshine outside. I was given the menu and cutlery with one black napkin. I was tempted to order the Cypriot halloumi to start but finally after much deliberation, I just ordered the main meal. I chose the Usta special lamb. There was a chalk board showcasing offers, but the waiter never brought it to my attention. I was dressed casually and needed sunglasses for my wellbeing. The lamb arrived after 15-20 minutes and it was just four lamb chops with rice and salad. Red cabbage salad, no complimentary breads or a glass of water. There were also two small dishes of sauce. One chili and the other garlic. I asked the waiter for a steak knife instead of the butter knife. There was nothing special about this dish whatsoever. I could have made it myself. It felt about as Turkish as a 99 Ice cream with a flake less than quarter of a mile down the road. I let the waiter know how disappointed I was before he gave his ‘ it’s a chef’s special’ reply. Will not return.

Staying in Barry and Usta was recommended by our hosts. Good choice on the menu. Great meal and excellent service. Shame we didn't live closer!

One of the nicest places i've ever eaten at in Barry or the Vale of Glamorgan. Would definitely recommend a visit, maybe catch a sunny afternoon and have a few drinks on the open terrace or try a nice intimate evening meal followed by a walk along the old harbour just like you're actually in Bodrum. All the food was as you would expect from a Turkish Grill and Meze place, fresh, flavourful and the breads were beautiful. I went for the Mixed Grill as i was hungry and had been fasting. It was a good portion if a little light on the chicken wings (they were delicious by the way). The stand out on the plate for me was the Lamb Chop and the Chicken Kofte which was really good. Definitely having that next time i visit! But all the meats were seasoned and spiced perfectly with each having its own distinct flavour profile. The meal came with rice and a salad. The rice was pretty standard. I was a little disappointed (that for the price) it didn't came with any breads. The side salad was ok, nothing amazing, but it did contain what seemed to me to be their own pickled cabbage. Which was interesting. I feel like they need to add a little more sugar to it, it was very sharp and had a hint of pomegranate (or something else floral or fruity) that wasn't altogether unpleasant, maybe it needs tweaking a little but that's just to suite my tastes.

This restaurant is a real gem. Firstly the service is outstanding - everyone is so so friendly. The food is delicious with a good choice. We will definitely return. Thank you

First time to this Turkish restaurant absolutely outstanding the food the service the price and to top it all was my girlfriends birthday and they sang everyone joined in thank you so much for an amazing night and to make it a special night for my girlfriend highly recommend thank you all for the amazing food atmosphere and service

This restaurant and the staff deserve the five stars! We needed to change the number of people booked at least three times after the original booking, the owner/manager didn't mind at all, he was very patient and accommodating. We went for dinner on a Saturday night and the atmosphere was lively and enjoyable. The food was absolutely delicious, we recommend the kleftico and yoghurt lamb shish. A couple more friends joined us after the meal and the staff made them welcome and provided more wine glasses. Nothing was a problem to them. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Spot on. And all the staff looked as if they really enjoyed being there. Please give them a try!

The service is excellent - and helpful in explaining menu items. The portions are generous so starter and main course is filling. The mixed grill is good value - though a lot of food.

I booked a table at the restaurant to celebrate Valentine’s Day with my girlfriend. The food was delicious and I would go as far to say it was the best Turkish restaurant we have ever been to! All the staff were very welcoming and all provided a high level of service throughout the whole evening. We were even provided with a complimentary glass of bubbles to finish the evening off 🥂 I would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant! It definitely deserves 5/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have visited this restaurant four times now with various group sizes and it is always a great experience. Last night I visited for valentine’s day with my partner. There were roses on every table and decorations all over the restaurant which was a nice touch. The food is delicious and the service I have received on every visit has been excellent. I forgot to ask for the name of the waiter we had last night but he was absolutely brilliant, friendly and attentive. Very much looking forward to my next visit. It’s great to have a restaurant like this in Barry.
