Urban Yak catered for our anniversary event at a pub in Berkshire. Fantastic food, all of our guests commented on how much they enjoyed it Thanks to the UY team, who were delightful, for helping to make our party such a success.

Really good well cooked food. Different flavours presented well and with a smile. Good portions couldn’t eat it all! Recommend the steamed dumplings

It has been so many years since I had Thukpa as not many restaurants serve it. I love Thukpa because the broth is strong and punchy. Thupka is a Tibetian soup noodle which is really flavourful. In London, there are more options for Thukpa so I narrowed it down to Urban Yan because their menu was clearly laid out and I liked their modern approach with pictures. When I saw a photo of the Thukpa, I knew this was the place. Urban Yak is located really close to Brockley station which is handy. On the menu, you can get it vegetarian or have it with chicken, pork, mutton or seafood so I chose mutton. When the noodles came, they looked exactly how I saw it on social media minus the piece of lemon. Tasting a sip of the broth, I loved the heat and tanginess from the lemon. The noodles were a bit different to the place I had it but they will were still good, you will find they are the same ones used in Chinese takeaways which are the chunky ones. I found them a bit slippery on chopsticks but overall these noodles are really worth trying because it is loaded with vegetables and the broth is really moreish. The mutton was a let down as it was dry, dark and chewy just like jerky but they were really kind to waive 50p to offset the mutton.

Choose Urban Yak for a friends birthday celebrations as they offered several vegan dishes as well as vegetarian and usual meat to suit everyone in the group, plus it’s really close to Brockley Station for those travelling from outside the local area. When we arrived we were offered to sit wherever we wanted and we chose the area to the rear, we were told to arrange the tables as we pleased and given free reign to decorate. As a party of 10 we were quite noisy and had a lot of food and drinks orders, despite struggling a little with our multitude of accents Scots/Irish/South African/various regional English the waitress did well, drinks service could have been a little quicker but we realise it’s not a bar and a large group ordering frequent drinks almost constantly can be quite a challenge!! We only had 1 issue with food taking a little longer as the dish had been missed out but honestly those little things are so minor when they staff are so friendly and welcoming and did everything to ensure we had a pretty exclusive little section of the restaurant to ourselves! My recommendations would be the vegetable dumplings, pakoras and the chilli paneer! Will certainly eat there again!

When you get your main delivered before you're finished on your starters and the plates from the starters are left on your table till you move them aside yourself......you realise things are not great. Sweet young waitress who clearly hasn't been taught the rudiments of service... the food was ok but cafe standard 5.5 out of 10.

10/10!! The most amazing food for such reasonable prices. The dumplings were incredible - we ordered chilli vegan ones I think. And then two Thalis. All amazing and authentic. Also a really nice vibe and the waiter was lovely. Thanks so much!! Highly recommend 🤩🤩🤩

Birthday dinner is served. A delightful local Nepalese restaurant with incredible food and even better staff. Momo on top form, ice cold Gurkha beers and the only downfall - we had the last portion of chicken lollipops. It’s worth the trip just for them. Very good value and incredibly welcoming; simply cannot wait to return. X

Tibetan experience excellent food. Popped in for a meal and feast. Nice and quick with a great take out service. Staff helpful and menu good. With the new lockdown on its way I’ll be ordering again and dining at home with some lovely nopales and Tibetan ‘

Portion size is good, meat quality average ( I had the pork dhal curry) but otherwise it’s very underwhelming almost bland which is a real shame. Dumplings were too thick and again flavour washed out. So if they are going to tone down spiciness then pack it with flavour. This sadly has neither of much.

This new little spot opened and I’ve just had my first dumpling soup. Absolutely delicious. Really good price, really good service. Big believer in supporting independent eateries so will definitely be going back.

Excellent coffee, and a delicious pistachio pain au chocolat. However the experience slightly marred by the hostile manager who was making coffees. He was short and rude with his staff and his attitude made the atmosphere awkward. Hope for his staff’s sake he’s not always like that!
