Urban Choola in Sheffield

Excellent food and wine....in a very pleasant setting. The quality of the food and service is beyond expectation and is definitely a place that i would repeat visit on my next trip to Sheffield.

I visited Urban Choola a few days ago with a group of friends. First of all, I would like to express how accommodating the staff were. Despite the fact that we arrived so close to the kitchen closing time, they still checked up on us several times and served us our food promptly. Each dish was full of delicious flavour. I was a huge fan of the cheese naan. When we noticed there was no cheese in one of the naan portions, our waiter did not hesitate to bring out another portion to replace it. We ordered a mixture of veg and non-veg dishes. I have no complaints about anything. It was all above my expectations and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!

If you are craving some finger licking good Indian food, look no further! Urban Choola is the right stop! Chef Nitin and Chef Amit are honestly culinary magicians who know exactly what Indians crave in authentic desi food, and deliver to perfection. The waitstaff is truly top-notch! Our attendant Vanchita took the time to ask about allergies and dietary restrictions, she asked if we wanted our dishes prepared in authentic desi style and inquired about our preferred spice level. We requested extra Cheese in our Cheese Naans and guess what? It was super duper trooper cheesy! Two other superb attendants Vivek and Harish, checked in on us multiple times to ensure everything was perfect and if we needed anything before the kitchen closed. When we mentioned to Vivek that our second round of Cheese Naan lacked the Cheese we were expecting, he immediately resolved it by bringing us an extra serving that was packed with Cheese and lots of Cheese (made my heart go lalalaaaa) We ordered the below and each dish is a must-must-must try- - Jackfruit Pepper Fry (my go to dish from this place) is to die for and reminds me sooo much of home. - Palak Paneer super duper creamy, yet packed with flavours, quite homely! - Lamb Rogan Josh, the meat was juicy and succulent, cooked to perfection - Chicken Chetinad, again, the chicken was so soft that it practically melts in your mouth - Cheese Naan, It is btw a task to find the right cheesy super cheesy cheese naan and they did a FAB job This place is ‘No one can visit just once’! Can never fail you I promise.. P.S- I have previously ordered their Bhalla Papdi Chaat and Aloo Tikki Chaat and when I say it is hands down the absolute best I’ve had in the UK, I actually mean it is the best- no exaggerations here! Try it and you will know why!

First visit and very impressed. Young lady waitress Lal…….? was very helpful and attentive. Everything that we ordered was tasty and cooked very well. Can thoroughly recommend.

Fair but not amazing. My Rrogan josh was a bit watery and the lamb lack flavour. Not buzzing.

I recently visited Urban Choola, and I must say it was a delightful experience. The food was absolutely delicious, with authentic Indian flavors that truly impressed me. Each dish was perfectly spiced, and the menu offered a wide variety to choose from. The service was excellent as well. A staff member named Vivek was particularly attentive and made sure we were comfortable throughout the meal. His recommendations were spot on, and the warm hospitality added to the overall experience.

Boring atmosphere, robotic staff, average food taste...overall I find this place overrated.

Excellent food, great service. Perfect for us as pescatarians with TONS of vegetarian and vegan options. Goan fish curry and jackfruit curry were particularly good

I had an amazing dining experience here! The food was incredibly authentic, and the flavors were spot on. The Paneer Tikka was perfectly cooked and seasoned, but the highlight for me was the Beetroot Tikki—it was bursting with flavor and truly unique. Lovely Indian food! Not sweet like other places, tangy and salty just like we used to eat in Delhi! Much delighted. Most recommended!

Starters were delicious. I ordered the chaat; full of flavour. Mains were average lacked flavour and spice. Restaurant is nice and clean just felt the atmosphere was a bit boring.

Last night we went for the first time. Our lovely server Karthika was extremely helpful. The food was beautiful & I would rate it the best Indian I have eaten in a long time. Four of us went to Urban Choola, it was the first time for 3 of the party. I had heard it was the best Indian in Sheffield and they were not wrong. The food was exceptional, the waiter was very friendly and was happy to explain the meals to us and explain that we could have our meals spicier or milder. This will definitely be a place that we will visit again and perhaps again and again. If I could give it higher marks I would.

Just ok, basic. We didn’t notice the atmosphere as we were hidden behind a wall and curtain and didn’t see anyone.

Food is amazing Love their beetroot tikka ,paneer 65 ,tandoori chicken ,chicken lollipop and all chutneys were good . Chai was beautiful and that's what I needed at that time of the day . Biryani was not that good but to be honest you can't get authentic biryani easily in UK . Love biryani darbar biryani .

Great food. But we knew that from their previous location. Here is bigger, better laid out, and they can really up their game with service.

Authentic and genuine Indian, exactly the way it is supposed to be done. The staff are super warm and the service is fast and attentive. Highly recommend!!

Very quick and friendly welcome, they offered a nice little table by the window, for starters we had amristart (I think that is its name) fish, which was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside not a drop of oil, and duck & chicken sheep kebab which was also amazing. For mains for had nalih ghost is a lamb shank (but chopped into 4/5 slices making it easy to manage) which was beautifully soft and the sauce was very brown thick sauce which my wife couldn't get enough of (but lamd shank dish we had ever) we also had chicken kharrai which was bit of a let down, don't get me wrong it wasn't bad but it wasn't a kharrai more like a balti or a runny jalfrezi, kharrai needed to be a lot more thicker and darker in colour and of possible served in the black sizzling kharria dishes but in balti dish. They only offer 2 kinds of rice: plain boiled rice or saffron pilua rice so we both went for the saffron rice which was very nice. We finished of the meal with masala chai for the wife and mango sorbet (they gave twice the amount you would get anywhere else) it was so nice I had to finish it off. Drinks we had 1 Fanta, 1 coke & 1 soda & lime. Wish they would have more option for those boycotting Coca-Cola. We walked in the rain to get there hence why stayed but next time if they only sell Coca-Cola we would just walk out hence the 4 start otherwise it would have been 5 star any day. Total cost of meal £65

Quite possibly the best restaurant in its class here in Sheffield. Beautiful food, delightfully crafted. They no longer do the thali on weekdays which is a real shame but the rest of the menu easily makes up for that. Only slight criticism is it can be a bit loud.

My chicken curry was really thin, spicy with little flavour. The beetroot bahji was so spicy it was barely edible. My paratha was almost cold..( I'd ordered a takeaway) wouldn't go back

We walked in for a table for two on a friday early evening and took a table by the window. The servers didn’t notice that the table wasn’t set and came to take our order even though there were no menus yet. We ordered some poppadoms and chutney while we waited. The poppadoms were stale and the chutney very expensive for the amount given. It took a long time to get any attention to ask for replacement poppadoms. As a personal preference the poppadoms were served as shards which I think takes away some of the fun of snapping them! We ordered the paneer makhani (I asked for it a little spicy as I was told it was mild- this was a mistake on my end as it made it wayyy too spicy!) and lamb rogan josh. The rogan josh was unlike any we’d tried before- it was essentially lamb in a gravy. Both the portion sizes were decent though. The peshwari naan was nice as was the cucumber raita and rice.

Always like eating here! Good food, good service and atmosphere.

Just had a lovely meal with fantastic service from such attentive, polite and friendly staff (kartikha was our main host (apologies if I have got the spelling wrong) . We started with mixed popadums with flavourful chutneys / sauces . For starters we shared Amritsar fish and crispy lentil vada both were delicious (the fish was spicy but beautifully cooked) . Saag paneer and Goan fish curry as mains, sweet lassi to drink , and a garlic naan and a paratha. We really enjoyed it , I could eat their palak paneer everyday it’s like the most amazing comfort food . We couldn’t finish our main snd breads and were given boxes and bags to pack everything left over to bring home - so absolutely no waste .

Went with my daughter. My wife is Punjabi so we know our Indian food and the food here was great. Palak paneer and aubergine masala were really tasty. Amritsari Kulcha was very tasty but not quite as flaky as they do in Amritsar. Fantastic service. A great find we shall be going back to with the whole family.

One of the worst service we have ever received. Specially Harish who was so arrogant on an order. They've haven't sent the ordered item, ordered Prawan but was supposed to be delivered butter chicken was delivered. is the issue is being pushed on Delhivery driver.

Hello, Urban chola is not new for me. Unfortunately todays order is unacceptable. When I called to urban chola representative to check on the same, the way he responded is unacceptable. I am sorry to say this, but not at all acceptable way of conversation.

This place is the best. Best Indian EVER. I always get the same meal: butter chicken and chicken biryiani. It never ever disappoints.

Lovely food and atmosphere. The Goan Fish curry and prawns were superb 👌. We will definitely return.

Disappointing meal. We haven’t been for a few years- found it really expensive, not a very big choice on the menu and the lamb was really tough. We preferred it when it first opened with the platter of small dishes and bring your own wine! We didn’t even have a starter and only one drink each and it was £78 for 3 of us.

Yesterday, two friends and I savored the delights of Urban Choola's early bird menu in Sheffield, and it was a treat! Featuring momo and chole bhature, the menu was a culinary adventure. Fanatic staff. Came in a party of 13 and our waitress, Karthinka (hope I got the name right) was so kind attentive, discreet but just perfect! All other staff great, food came quickly and all absolutely excellent. Will be coming back for sure! Huge thank you to the team.

First time here and I will absolutely be coming back. Food was excellent especially the dumplings and rose syrup dessert we had which was exquisite. I liked the garlic naan which was light and fluffy and when we ordered more, it came out piping hot. Service was excellent, I unfortunately cannot remember the name of our host because I am terrible with names but she was wonderful and so friendly and helpful. Atmosphere was great, parking is tricky but I absolutely highly recommend this place.

I thought this was going to be better. My two dishes were basically a sauce with a few prawns in it, and spinach puree with a few potatoes in it. Not much sign of actual cooking.

i haven’t had a curry this good in a long time!! we shared a few different ones between us but the butter chicken was by far my favourite. the dahl makhani was also incredible - best i’ve had in the UK, and also the beetroot tikki starter was to die for! we were served by Kiran and was absolutely wonderful!! will defo come again next time i’m in sheffield 😁

Good food taste, was very busy when we had been. Service was slow. They could do with more vegetarian options in the main curries. And could increase the portion sizes of starters.. 3 pieces of paneer I think are too small for 1 starter dish. The waiters, mostly students are all well trained, speak very politely and attend to you promptly.

I loved the ambience and the authentic Indian food that they serve reminds me of my home country. My personal favorite is chicken 'Lamb Rogan Josh' and mango lassi and amazing Cocktails.

I like the lamb rogan Josh. It’s a shame they don’t do so many hot curries here. But the ones they do do are awesome.

The food was ok but a star lost for being told the prawn dish was king prawn - it was not. A second one lost as it was not good value for money and quite expensive really.

When I first visited this restaurant it had the best taste, but now after 5months the taste has gone worse. Very expensive. Bad taste. Total waste of money. Overall rating- 0/5

I've been a patron at this restaurant since 2016 and they've never disappointed. The flavours and textures are on point towards authenticity. They could benefit from expanding their menu by adding one regional dish from each part of India. I'm quite sure most Indians like me would prefer authentic regional dishes in addition to the popular ones. If you are new to Sheffield and crave delicious Indian food, don't miss this little gem.

Super delicious! It tastes fresh and authentic, similar flavors to my Indian family's home cooking. I wish I found this place sooner! Staff were super friendly when I picked up my order and let me sit inside while I waited for it to finish. I ordered the aubergine masala, the aubergines were cooked well but were slightly bitter. Other than this, brilliant food. All beautifully seasoned and flavourful. Will definitely be going again and I look forward to trying more things on the menu!

Absolutely banging Indian: beautifully presented, wonderfully cooked, generous portions, impeccable service. 10/10 would go again. Have the dahi puri and the nali gosht

Beautiful food, really enjoyed it. It made me happy to think that we had found an Indian restaurant in Sheffield that felt like a treat to come to, good atmosphere, comfortable, clean, and nicely lit. More importantly, no ridiculously over coloured food, nothing swimming in slicks of grease, just really tasty, well cooked food. We booked for 18:45 and arrived a few mins early, but the table was ready luckily. It was right in the window, which was nice without feeling overlooked. We had poppadoms and pickles, shared 3 starters between 4 of us, 4 mains, 2 rice, 2 breads, and 2 desserts plus drinks, of course. I think they were hoping we wouldn't order dessert, and not long after 8pm, they started to bring after dinner sweets and the bill (along with a table stand with a QR code to scan to make a review of the restaurant, delivered in front of my friend who still had most of her glass of wine and with a heavy name drop from the least tactful waitress. They generally seemed to be rushing us out, and started pointing out the people who were seated in the bar area waiting for the table and saying how busy they were. When I booked online, the arrival time slots were split into an early sitting and a late sitting, but there was no indication that the booking was time limited. I would have quite liked a coffee and for my friends to finish their wine in their own time. Being rushed out marred the whole experience, which was such a shame. I do think the waitress Kiran had much nicer service skills than the other young lady, but perhaps the booking system needs to let you know how long the booking slot is for so that you are forewarned, and the other waitress needs a bit more service training.

Lovely service from all the staff. A great range of options for vegans, gluten free, kids, etc. Great portion size, lovely varied flavours in each dish, all very well balanced. Could do with another vegan dessert on the menu. Will be going back.

They have one of the best food in Sheffield. If you are Indian near Sheffield then you should try this restaurant.

Went for a meal whilst on a team awayday in Sheffield - 18 people with lots of different dietary requirements. I don't enjoy organising meals out like this as can easily go wrong and then you never hear the end of it - an army marches on its stomach and all that! Lucky for me, the team at Urban Choola were brilliant and I shouldn't have worried: food was great, service was exemplary, all requirements considered with a minimum of fuss. I called at Urban Choola to order and collect a takeaway. I have not commented on the atmosphere but from what I saw I would not hesitate to book a table, it looked comfortable, light and bright. Tha takeaway food was excellent, I ordered vegetable samosas with an unusual mint chutney which were delicious. The artichoke and mushroom Biriani was delicious and the nan bread equally so. I can't wait to go again to try the lamb Rogan Josh. Sadly I live 350 miles away........unless they can deliver.......
