Umi in Derry

The food was really good. Small plates were a little small for the price but the large plate was great. Service fast and attentive.

Very overpriced, average sushi. Tastless cod bao bun , chicken bao bun was tasty. Went here with high expectations but just another high price small plate venue. Staff were great and service was top 👌

We ordered a bit of everything and all the dishes were incredible! What a finding.... cannot suggest enough!

Had lunch here today for the first time , 3 adults and our 3 year old granddaughter. It did not disappoint, brilliant Asian Fusion . The service is very good and very helpful. If you're up here , it's worth a shout.

Stunning! Loved it! We went to Umi as a family of 4. One member of our party needed gluten-free options and was really well catered for. Their order was taken separately to ensure there was no crossover in dishes, which was a great idea by our lovely server (not sure if this is their standard policy, but I'm going to credit our server). The other 3 of us shared a selection of small plates, also suggested by our server. A great way to sample new foods. We had some of their bespoke cocktails and a mocktail as I was driving, delicious. It is a lovely place to go as a special treat.

Food was delish, atmosphere spot on but it's the staff that make the place exceptional.

It’s very rare you’d see someone give a 5 Star rating about everything that a restaurant here offers but it really deserves it in the case of Umi. Unreal atmosphere, super hip and young and now, but with a customerbase of all ages. The food itself was next level, my table of three got small plates to share x4, then a main dish each and two sides to share across the table. Top quality in terms of it all really, quick food delivery, fresh as possible ingredients, friendly waiters and waitresses, the full package. Our main waitress was called Jane and she was just extremely pleasant, and she had ticked every box. Would highly recommend Umi to anyone looking to expand their palate or for a good dining experience.

Forever underestimate the culinary arts. Through these dishes you can taste the years of experience behind them. A true understanding of Asian food created through its audience. And an incredible evening. Thank you. We will return to derry once again to experience this.

I don't even know how to describe the UMI without it sounding unbelievable. The food, the chefs, the staff, the ambience - everything, but really everything, is outstanding, unfortunately I can't think of another word that would express my enthusiasm better. Umi is amazing!!! Yes, it is more expensive than most restaurants in Derry, but it is so worth it! It is completely different from anything you may have tried before. The food is outstanding, and the service here is excellent. The staff go way beyond to explain the various dishes on offer and are so knowledgeable about the menu. This has been one of our best meal experiences in a long time, and I highly recommend. You will not be disappointed for sure. This is what Derry needs, less of the garlic spuds and tobacco onions and more of proper, quality food. Excellent stuff Umi!!!!!

Simply the best fries I have ever tasted.

Both visits to Umi have been absolutely amazing and totally opened my tastebuds to new flavours, textures and words I am slowly learning. On my first visit, I went for a takeout volcano scallop and avocado roll (which is on the dinner menu). The staff were lovely and couldn’t have been more helpful to accommodate my takeout order. For my first proper experience with sushi I was amazed and eagerly awaited my next visit. I stopped in today on my break from college and I was greeted at the door by a very charasmatic and lovely server who directed me to my table. I cannot stress how brilliant the staff are- even helping me with a chopsticks lesson 😂and answering any questions I had about the sushi. I ordered a green tea (which came in a cast iron tea pot) and the crab California roll. As you can see from the photos it looks delicious and tastes even better! I ended up ordering the beef sushi that was recommend by my server and WOW!!!!!! If you are in Derry you need to try these, flavours, texture and just an all round delicious treat. I have to commend Umi on giving Derry some new flavours and doing it so well! The restaurant is such a good vibe with chill beats that get you grooving whilst enjoying your food. Not to be missed- recommend it 5⭐️ and can’t wait for my next visit

I had the pleasure of dining at umi, and the staff truly made the experience exceptional. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and a welcoming atmosphere. The staff were all friendly and approachable, making us feel right at home. What impressed me the most was their attentiveness to my severe allergy. As someone who struggles with food allergies, it can be quite difficult to find a restaurant that can accommodate my needs. However, the staff went above and beyond to ensure that I was catered for. They consulted with the chef to make sure my meal was safe for me to eat and made changes to the food so I wasn't left out. Not only did they provide me with a delicious meal, but they also made sure to check in with me throughout the night to make sure I was doing okay. I truly appreciate the extra effort they put in to make sure I had a great dining experience. And let's not forget about the cocktails and food – they were simply unbelievable. The mixologist clearly knew what they were doing as the cocktails were bursting with flavor. And the food was just as impressive. Each dish was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked. Overall, I cannot praise the staff enough. Their kindness, attentiveness, and willingness to go the extra mile truly made our dining experience one to remember. I highly recommend umi to anyone looking for that little something extra and a friendly atmosphere, along with delicious food and drinks. Thank you to the staff for making our night unforgettable.

Popped into Umi for lunch with my 4 kiddies. We hadn't pre booked, or looked at what the restaurant served... My kiddies are very picky, and as they don't have a kids menu, I was a bit worried. That said, I didn't need to be as they provided a lovely 'off the menu' chicken and fries type meal for them. We had the Pork Belly and Massamam Curry which were both absolutely delicious!! Great services, very cool atmosphere, all round 5*. Can't wait to return to Derry and return to Umi. Highly recommend.

First visit to Umi for lunch. Such amazing food. Can't believe we have only discovered this place lately. The flavour of the mushroom dumplings was out of this world. The vegetable & salmon sushi were delish & the Korean fries had a great kick to them. We will definitely be back soon to sample the other dishes. Our waitress was so knowledgeable, friendly & attentive. The standard of service was top quality. Coconut pannacota for dessert was very refreshing. Highly recommended if you enjoy food which is fresh, healthy & vibrant.

Absolutely delighted to finally get to Umi, it didn't disappoint. Food was superb, great portions and beautifully presented. Jessica, looked after us so well, so friendly, professional and courteous. Knew the menu and was able to recommend what was excellent. Well priced too and well worth a visit, already looking forward to returning.

Great place, brilliant food - Best place in Derry!

Lovely night with Umi full of happy patrons. Food was great especially the pork dumpling. Confit duck turned out to be roast duck, so one less star for the food.

Place has a great atmosphere and the service is fantastic but the food is just mostly okay. Prawns lacked flavour, pork belly was just okay, bao bun for £10 was small, nice but not £10 worth in my opinion. I will say the beef tempura maki sushi was fantastic and so were the Korean dirty fries

Our first time eating at Umi. The service was good and the food was excellent. There is not a lot of parking outside, but there are a good few options within walking distance. I would highly recommend Umi for a flavour sensation meal. Book in advance!!

Hi, we were invited to dine here and we’re thinking what will we think. Amazing, this was a great experience, we enjoyed everything we were given, the cocktails were fantastic. Cannot wait to return. 10/10. The cabbage is amazing, the pork dish delicious, the scallops lovely, the sharing steak , so lovely. Did not feel full up but knew we had tastes that we want again. The staff are wonderful.

Professional yet relaxed 👍 Food arrives in record times thanks to the way they deliver food as soon as it's ready. 👍Bar staff are very professional as well and can create you a signature cocktail based on what flavours you like. 👍Most importantly the food is of a great standard. Flavours are complimentary and menus are changed based on the best season for freshness of ingredients

I have been to Umi before and really enjoyed it. The food had been prepared with intricate care resulting in beautifully presented, delicate, fresh, innovative dishes. I returned recently to celebrate my husband's birthday and we were bitterly disappointed with the food on offer. The time consuming items on the menu, which previously justified the high price tag, have been replaced with deep-fried items that can be produced quickly and cheaply. Whereas before I had enjoyed a bao filled with a flavoursome pulled pork and fresh, light, crunchy veg - now it is filled with some deep-fried luminous pink abomination that purports to be Korean chicken. With a £10 price tag, this is an absolute joke. It amounts to little more than chipper food at high-end restaurant prices. The duck spring rolls were beautifully done and I can't fault them but again, the £11 price tag for 2 spring rolls was just insane. My husband enjoyed his sushi but I felt the tuna was a little tired and not quite as fresh as it should have been. The beer selection was also pretty mediocre with no IPAs on the menu, just a selection of the usual asian lagers. The service was very good with very pleasant helpful staff. I really want to like this place and love what they are trying to do but their standards have slipped so badly. I think I'll be spending my money in Mekong from now on.

If you’re coeliac, I would not recommend. Sushi was tasteless. Margarita did not taste right. The 2 stars are for the pleasant staff and the sauce that came with the sirloin steak which was very tasty.

Delicious tasty food! We ordered one each of the small plates to share and each one was very good ( a nice way to try a range of dishes) plus we ordered a side of the Korean dirty fries which were very good! Very friendly team with great service. First time to visit the restaurant and will definitely be back! We didn’t have any alcohol but the cocktail menu sounded good so will try them out next time. They served lots of chilled iced water with our meal. Highly recommended!

I never write reviews but absolutely have to rave about our meal here.. Im still dreaming of the steak and dirty fries and I will be for a long time! Cannot wait to get back here - special mention to all the amazing staff as well, unreal service!! I'm not sure of the guys name who looked after us but he took the time to go over the menu with us and give us his recommendations, it really put me at ease so I appreciate that! Thank you! I also want to say BEST COCKTAILS IN Derry seriously without a doubt! Charlie is amazing at what he does and no drink will disappoint!

Had good reviews, so decided to try it out and immediately regretted trusting reviews on an Asian restaurant by non Asian people. Everything I ordered - save for the lamb - was salty. It’s like soy sauce is the only Asian ingredient they’re aware of. The salt overpowered the taste of everything else. Towards the end, I was dipping my vegetables in a glass of water to dilute the taste and not die of kidney stones. Service wasn’t the best, but not the worst either. Overall, not the best place if you’re Asian missing Asian food but I guess good enough if you don’t have authentic Asian expectations.

Went here yesterday with my Dad. Service excellent and very friendly. Food was lovely if a bit overly chefy (don't need to put yuzu or ground spice toppings in nigiri). Desserts great. My Dad found the music way too loud for 6pm booking. Having lunch today in Hidden City Cafe and they have the music volume way more on point.

Food is amazing. Service is second to none. Loved the decor. Sharing steak melts in your mouth. Dirty fries are amazing & no idea how they stay crispy. Charred greens are best veggies ever. Bao Bun (hot chicken) best new thing I’ve tried in ages. Pork dumplings also incredible. Can’t wait to return!

On arrival I was greeted and given a choice of table, with consideration that it's Baltic tonight and I didn't want to be by the door, so I chose to sit by the kitchen. I ordered the whacky sake cocktail which was delicious. Complex, fragrant and slightly bitter, it proved the perfect foil for the beef tempura maki and dirty Korean fries. Staff are on the ball, perfectly aware of everything going on and able to give sound recommendations. I was sat by the open kitchen which seemed astonishingly calm, considering the pace at which the food comes out. Every detail is carefully and lovingly administered, and the result is fabulous food which is some of the best in Derry's already impressive food scene. It's a wee bit pricey, but the food is totally worth it for a treat.

Stunning Asian fusion menu with welcoming, vibrant atmosphere. Sharing steak with miso butter is absolutely inspired and the cocktail list contains modern takes on classic serves. Overall, a brilliant and unique dining experience.

Devastated and disgusted Devastated that I'll never get to experience it for the first time again and disgusted that you can only give 5 stars. Food was beautiful, atmosphere was top class, service was exemplary. Staff were happy to give advice, were personable and very friendly. Each dish we got was just a perfect mix of flavors and quality ingredients. We will definitely be back as soon as we get another babysitter. Well done Umi, you are a credit to the City!

We all had a starter each (there was 5 of us) and then the steak with dirty fries. Every mouth full of the steak was to die for. The fries weren't to my taste, but that's a personal choice. I had scallops to start which were also beautiful. I'm only giving 3 for service because we waited an hour between starter and main meal. I would definitely go back even though we had that hour wait between courses because the food and atmosphere were great!

We had lunch there today for the first time. Everything from the food to the service to the decor to the music was excellent. I'm definitely going to be making regular visits.

Best food I ever had in Derry, it's a welcome addition to the town. Stand out dishes for me were the dumplings and the cote de boufe. Service, ambience and music were also first class.

We were recommended here, i had high expectations but they were just missing the mark. I got the vegan dumplings and I swear they were drowning in soy sauce where u couldn’t taste anything inside them and they were soggy from just sitting in sauce. I eat a lot of Asian food so I just wasn’t impressed, then got the vegan bao which was okay just dry. My boyfriend enjoyed his meals but got food poisoning from the oyster. I understand high prices for some things being locally sourced etc but it was near £8 for the mochi dessert which was literally a single mochi with a wafer on top I couldn’t believe it. It was cold the whole time and my tea literally came half full like I really wanted to like it and I loved their concepts but it just missed. I would definitely try again in like a year or get a takeaway!

Brilliant menu and great service

The best sushi. We ordered a mix of dishes which were all delicious, so fresh and the mix of flavours was amazing. I love that the dishes were served once they were ready not sat waiting. It is really reasonably priced for the quality and the staff are friendly, nothing is too much bother. The restaurant has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the staff didn't rush us. So we has several drinks instead of moving on. I can't wait to eat here again.
