Lovely place with a wonderful attentive staff and amazing food

Came here with two friends as a last minute meal out while I was child free on Valentine’s Day. It was a very pleasant experience. We loved our food and probably indulged just a little too much. I had the lobster ramen with a beef bibimbap. Vicky had the 5 pork gyozas, a seafood ramen with a poke bowl and Dave had 5 pork gyozas, pork belly ramen and a bowl of chips. The broth of the lobster ramen was just beautiful. I was so excited to try lobster and it didn’t let me down. Everything was beautiful 😍 we hope to be back again soon!!

Been to this location when it was ‘Ume’ a few times. But since the rebrand they’ve stepped up what was already some great food. The sushi was genuinely incredible, with us having the California rolls and the special fried rolls, and the mains too were fantastic. Service was super quick, and the staff are always friendly. Brilliant value for money and will be back in no time.

Absolutely brilliant food! We’ve been here a number of times (and also had takeaways that have travelled well) and it’s always been fabulous! Great tasty food and fantastic prices. Cocktails are wonderful too!

Been here a number of times. Lovely food, friendly staff. They do a lunch deal Monday to Friday - Sushi or Katsu curry with miso soup and a soft drink. Highly recommended!

After a disappointing meal in the city center, we stumbled upon this gem, and it turned our day around! The chicken katsu and rice were hands-down the best we’ve ever had. The chicken was perfectly crispy, the flavors were beautifully balanced, and every bite was a delight. The atmosphere inside was lovely, with a warm and welcoming vibe. The staff, especially the waitresses, were incredibly friendly, making the experience even better. The service was quick too—we didn’t have to wait long, but when the food arrived, it was absolutely worth it. The prices were very reasonable for the quality, making it even more impressive. We’re so glad we gave this place a try, and we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend if you’re looking for flavorful dishes and top-notch service!

This is such a lovely place. Clean. Quiet. Friendly staff. And the food is AMAZING. The cocktails are to die for - we had a sip of our first cocktail and ordered another round of them straight away. The choice of rolls, excellent. We couldn’t get over the flavours. Presented beautifully. Can’t wait to come back

Shokudo was an incredible experience. I had the beef bento box, and every bite was packed with flavor, with perfectly cooked beef and fresh, well-prepared sides. My girlfriend ordered the pork ramen, which was equally impressive—rich, savory broth and tender, melt-in-your-mouth pork. The presentation and attention to detail were top-notch. Shokudo truly delivers, Highly recommended!

Beautiful food as always. Brought my dad here for the first time today as a boxing day treat and he loved it. He tried the mochi for the first time too. Lovely food, people and place. Highly recommend

Had Takoyaki and Edamame beans to start, both were beautiful. For main, we had vegetable katsu curry and the tonkotsu ramen. Although we both enjoyed our meals, I must say the ramen I had was the best ramen I have ever had, hands down. Beautiful flavours, all fresh and seasoned well, and the broth was amazing! Would 100% recommend this place for sushi, ramen and katsu curry, for sure!

Shokudo is a fabulous Japanese restaurant in Lichfield town centre. We dine here from both the lunch special menu which is brilliant value for money and the evening menu. There is a Sushi 🍣 chef here and the food is authentic Japanese cuisine. Highly recommend

best gyoza ever!!! and best chicken karaage i’ve had since i visited japan last summer! tonkotsu ramen was also another highlight. authentic food, lovely staff & cute restaurant in convenient location in lichfield town centre, will be visiting again asap :]

This place deserves so much more recognition. The sushi is fresh, rice and noodle dishes are very tasty. The staff are very friendly. The lights could be dimmed a bit to add some atmosphere - but this doesn't stop me going every time I'm back in Lichfield. Go support this great restaurant!

Excellent authentic Japanese food of a very high standard, one member of our party is Japanese and she enjoyed it as much as we did. Prices are very reasonable. We will return.

I recently dined at shokudo japanese kichen for casual dinner with my friends. And we all loved it, the atmosphere was cozy and inviting, with soft light and treditional decor. The service was excellent and the menu have wide variety of hot food and sushi i had a shokudo special roll it was really good and fresh. The price was aslo reasonable with good quality, must try place .

After the change of management, this place has improved immensely. The food is varied, tasty and fresh. The staff are pleasant and the environment pleasant welcoming. Try the bento boxes and gyoza.

Visited for lunch today, it was amazing and we will most defo be back, we started with takoyaki and chicken karaage, big portions then we had seafood ramen and chicken bibimbap, which again for the price was plentiful and hot, we were looked after by a lovely waitress who was warm and friendly, great customer service, brilliant food, reasonably priced, what's not to love x

I’ve been in Lichfield this week for work and ate at Shokudo every day, after being so impressed by the tuna poke bowl that I ordered for takeaway on Tuesday. The food was fresh and delicious, and the portions were really generous. The staff at Shokudo were lovely, very welcoming and attentive and the food came out really quickly. If I ever come back to Lichfield I’ll definitely be returning! Thanks :)

One of the best Japanese spots in the UK! As a ramen lover, I was blown away by the flavors—the veggie gyoza and ramen were soul-satisfying. They even treated me to a complimentary mocktail, such a thoughtful touch! Wish I could be here daily, but it’s worth every trip from Leeds. Thank you for an amazing experience!

Second visit and again the food and service were excellent

Unadon was delicious, karaage good but the gyudon was inedible. No sauce, tough meat chunks. Nothing like the gyudon we know from Japan. It's a shame, as not many places around doing gyudon, so we've had high hopes. We will be back for the unadon, but for gyudon we'll be looking elsewhere.

We ordered the chicken curry and Teriyaki salmon, but unfortunately, neither dish lived up to expectations. The chicken was a thin, flat slice that looked like a processed, pre-formed product, covered in breadcrumbs and deep-fried. It was served with an overwhelming amount of rice and potatoes but very little bland sauce. As for the salmon, it had potential but was sadly overcooked and dry, likely due to how thin it was. Overall, disappointing.

Made the trip here as there is not many other sushi venues in Staffordshire Moorlands where I live. The Sushi was amazing as well as the Gyoza. The service was great and we were introduced in a lovely manner. We ordered alot of Sushi and it was well worth what we paid. The Mochi was lovely also. Thank you

Me and my husband have not had Japanese food this excellent since we left Japan ! The happiness and nostalgia these dishes brought us was out of this world .. sashimi was so fresh and melted in my mouth & the curry omg ! It was just immaculate .. will defo be ordering a lot more that’s for sure 26/10 !

Really very good. I have eaten sushi many times, in Japan as well and this ranked as a fantastic lunch. Chicken katsu curry was very delicious with fresh flavours. Good value, and I liked the Japanese music! Well recommended.

Shokudo - There is a wide selection of dishes, reasonably priced and the food is tasty. Drinks are also good value and the staff are friendly.

Umé has now been renamed Shokudo. We’ve passed it several times, and thought it looked attractive. We finally decided to have a Japanese meal there this week, and were not disappointed. There were no other lunchtime customers, which was a pity, since the food was excellent. There is an extremely large menu, and vegetarians can have a good meal. We enjoyed the vegetable katsu curry, which was quite substantial – next time we’ll order sushi, since that’s one of the restaurant’s specialities. Service was friendly and prompt. Being in the middle of Lichfield, the restaurant doesn’t have its own car park, but there is ample municipal parking nearby.

Absolutely delicious food, we had the pumpkin korroke as a starter, salmon fried sushi to share, beef bibimbap and seafood ramen.....it was all incredible, all freshly cooked, delicious. The menu has so many nice things to choose from, it was difficult to decide! The staff are really friendly and offer great service. The price was very reasonable for all of the above plus fries and 2 pints of Asahi. The portion sizes are very generous. I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting delicious Japanese or sushi. Can't wait to go back!

Greeted very promptly and accommodated us with a pushchair. Great level of service that felt friendly and welcoming. Food was served with little wait and will hear no complaints from us. Our table had Champon Ramen, chicken karaage, cucumber hosomaki, california ISO rolls and chicken gyoza 5pc. All great choices and will be happy to visit again! Look forward to trying the bento and hotpot on future visits!

Absolutely incredible food, we already can't wait to come back. Only disappointment was that the food we ordered was so filling, we didn't get chance to have one of the delicious looking desserts. Would highly recommend the Karaage Chicken Ramen & Chicken Yaki Soba.
