Tŷ Newydd Country Hotel in Rhondda Cynon Taf

Had the unpleasant experience of booking this place, just what you see on Gordon Ramsey's hotel nightmares sadly. The whole place is run down and a sad shadow of what it could have been in the past. The pints we had from the bar came from a barrell that was opened by what it seems last year as was severed 2 lifeless flat pints, the lounge where you take the drinks is dirty as well, also not forgetting the dirty cutlery behind one of the sofas. The rooms are seriously outdated, the carpets needed to be replaced 10 years ago and smell awful creating a horrible musky smell which was giving sore throats! The is dust everywhere and honestly can't have been cleaned this year.... The kettle has mould and a disgusting yellow substance inside making that unusable also. The bathroom has mould in the grout lines in the tiles and the shower head called in limescale and honestly feel like using those facilities would have made the user more dirty not cleaner. The last issue is a very big concern regarding the care of people's safety as the main fire escape upstairs has a tumble dryer dumped in the middle of the escape route which is a huge safety concern as in the event of a fire guests will have to climbe over a tumble dryer????!!! The lady receptionist was lovely and polite and that's honestly as far as the plus sides go unfortunately, not usually one to make a fuss over anything but this was honestly ABIT of a shock. Had to travel down to local restaurants after reading the countless reviews of undercooked food and poor hygiene too which made us very worried about eating there. The location is peaceful, the receptionist is very polite but that's not worth putting up with the rest sadly, needless to say we was up at 5:30am excited to leave and left by 7am..... No doubt 25 years or so ago I can imagine this hotel being beautiful and looking amazing but sadly it's being seriously neglected and can only see it getting worse, honestly would love to see it looking great again.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Me and my partner thought we was treated to a lovely get away for his birthday however that was NOT the case. I don’t know where to begin, firstly the road leading up to the hotel had massive pot holes it is in serious need of a repair. The out side looks awful there is no need of those branches covering the building. Got to the reception desk to collect our key to the room. When you are walking to your room you are seeing dirty carpet and hearing creeks on the floor, also fire doors that should be kept shut were open!!. The worst part is that opposite our room there was a fire exit and A TUMBLR DRYER was blocking the entrance to the fire door so if there was a serious fire we wouldn’t of been able to get out!. They clearly don’t give a crap about this place anymore. Random chairs and furniture placed in weird spots around the hotel. Now the “deluxe room” we stayed in absolutely stank looked like it hasn’t been used for months! , the furniture is so outdated like a granny’s room and the cabinet looked like something out of conjuring it was terrifying I struggled to sleep.Mould on the wall covered by a chair, damp on the ceiling that has been patched up by a cow boys by the seems of it. The bed was so uncomfortable I only got 3 hours sleep!, the bathroom had more mould in between the tiles black stuff in the bath. The shower head was all green and looked mouldy too!. I had to cover my nose staying in this room it was so disgusting I felt so dirty. I refused to use the bath or shower so had to have greasy hair and stink the next day. The kettle also had mould in the bottom of it clearly hasn’t been cleaned out in years with a greasy yellow substance all inside it too. You could see the rims on the carpet from where a vase was placed so that’s telling me the room doesn’t get touched often!. The heating was on full blast in both rooms to try and make out it gets used. The windows are such a HAZARD no safety clips or anything so you could literally hang out the window or actually fall out!! Later that night we had to get food going by the reviews we would get food poisoning so went 20 minutes down the road to grab some food. Really desperately didn’t want to return back. We woke up at 5AM!!!! And left at 7:30!! I couldn’t wait to leave this is the worst place I have ever stayed I would give 0 stars if I could.

Fantastic value. Huge, comfortable room with beautiful views. Friendly service and good food

During our visit to the hotel as guests of a wedding our child with a severe tree nut allergy was served profiteroles containing nuts. The venue was told that the child with a severe tree nut allergy would be dining prior to the event. When the child was served the profiteroles, the child's dad asked the server if the profiteroles were nut free, the server went to the kitchen to check. When the server returned they said 'the profiteroles contained traces and fragments of nuts but no whole nuts, so it should be ok'. Luckily the child had not eaten any. I (the child's mother) then spoke to one of the directors of the venue, who acknowledged they were aware of the child's tree nut allergy, but said the bride had said 'it would be fine' and therfore knowingly oversaw the serving of profiteroles with traces of nuts, to a child with a severe tree nut allergy. The director showed little concern and no understanding of the implications of serving allergens to guests with allergies. Had our son eaten the profiteroles he likely would have had an anaphylactic reaction, which could have been fatal. Shortly after explaining to staff that our son was allergic to the profiteroles, he was served the profiteroles for a second time, before we asked they be taken away. Later at the evening buffet, a sign was put up to say the all the buffet food contained nuts. No alternative food was offered for our five year old. To put our son at risk in this way, after being given prior notice of his tree nut allergy was negligent and unforgivable.

I just attended a wedding, I didn't stay there. But everything went really well and hotel staff were very helpful and friendly.

Had a lovely afternoon tea at Ty Newydd Country Hotel, the portion size was just right, friendly and welcoming staff.

When for a shower not hot water, had to have a freezing cold shower, when I was checking out I did mention the problem and the hotel receptionist said didn't anyone tell we have a problem with the pumping device? Obviously not.

Excellent place to stay for few nights. Out in the country. Lovely place to use as a base to sight see brecon beacons and more.

I’m leaving a review to give this one receptionist a shoutout - unfortunately I never caught her name. At arrival, she was very friendly, helpful and informative. She went out of her way to create a guide for us on how to reach the waterfall (images and a breakdown of the directions). She didn’t really have to go above and beyond, but she did, and this is why I’m leaving a review to say that my partner and I really enjoyed our stay. The following day we ate a full Welsh breakfast which tasted amazing. Unfortunately because of the rain we didn’t fee motivated to explore the surrounding areas, but from what we could grasp, it was very lovely and scenic.
