Excellent customer service. Good is excellent and very tasty. If you love real portuguese cuisine, this is the place in Cardiff. Highly recommended!

Food was bland and overpriced for portion size. Ordered some meat skewers, asked for well done, but it was burnt. Tasted like lighter fluid. Service was slow and unattentive. No options for children.

Atmosphere : very loud and busy, felt OK kind of like a large family event, I am not sure if I would attend at such a busy time again as we went on Saturday bank Holiday weekend Prawn cocktail was very watery it felt like they had been soaking in liquid for too long or frozen, not what I would expect from a top rated restaurant. 400g fillet & 300g ribeye medium rare on both. Came extremely purple practically rare. Waiter took the meat back and recooked. At this point my steak was ruined, anyone who knows steak, if you refire it ends up bitty and dry. Arrived overcooked, really well done in parts and medium rare in others, considering this cost me just over £70 it was not the service or quality I would expect. The meat was not seasoned in anyway I could not taste any salt or pepper it was just a plain chunk of dry meat, shame. Potatoes were lovely, stuffed peppers were tasty and fresh and the staff were really great and friendly. Probably wouldn't rush back. If I did attended again I would go mid week and have something smaller to test the food quality.

Went here today with friends I ordered a chicken epetada, while eating it I found a long, blonde hair , I have short grey hair. Called the waiter who changed it for a fresh one. That bit was good. Apology? No. Money off or free drink offered? No Will I go here again? No

Fabulous food, great service great price

Had a poor meal here a few months ago, three of us all said the same about the food as we all have the same. Provided feedback regarding the food and service as they kind of forgotten about us when there. They issued us with £30 voucher, total. Today I called and asked why I had to pay a deposit for a lunchtime booking. They responded saying well I don't know you, don't know if you will turn up. I questioned why I was being viewed as not honourable and decent to receive further bad service from the GM Lucia to then talk over me and ignore me, handing me over to another manager making me feel like a criminal. Disgusting behaviour, shame on you. I will Never Return to this restaurant.

Don't be deceived by the facade as its a large restaurant that goes back a long way. The waiting staff were excellent. Nice food, had scallops from the Specials board as a starter which were perfectly cooked and the mussels were also delicious. For main we had one of the meat skewers that they hang from a hook on the ceiling beams and swordfish. These were served with fried potatoes & battered cauliflower which was surprisingly good. I was a little underwhelmed by the swordfish as felt it was slightly over cooked but my partner loved his skewer. Overall nice experience just wasn't wowed.

Unfortunately a negative experience. Slow service. Asked multiple times for knife and forks with meals. No bread with soup unless asked for (multiple times) felt as if it was a burden to ask for these basic things when paying £60 a head. Small House wine with a dash of lemonade was £10.50 which you wouldn’t even pay in a high end bar in London. Had high hopes for this place. Expected standards to slip over the Christmas period given the demand, however when paying what we were charged we expected better. Wouldn’t return.

Great food, service can be a little too relaxed,had to wait for drinks order last time,time before very quick, I have used this restaurant over many years, even when it was in a different location,think the service has slipped a bit since covid. Let's hope it improves.

My partner and I managed to get a table on a busy Saturday night without booking. Our table was fine however we didn’t have a hanging hook so we assumed we couldn’t have any espetadas, but as we hadn’t booked we were grateful for the table and didn’t mention it. Staff were very accommodating and friendly to us, we both had a steak - cooked perfectly and some sides. The food came out really quick and overall our experience was very good, amazing staff, thank you.

Went as part of a team meal, the atmosphere was nice, a little restaurant with friendly staff and some great whiskey. Food is amazing as certain selections they hang in hooks above you and wrap a garlic butter over them, you then take pieces off as you want I had the t bone steak which was beautifully cooked and well seasoned, paired with the peppercorn sauce was a match made in heaven . Highly recommend

We visited this restaurant last night in the hope they had a table available, and they managed to squeeze us in. Lovely place, staff friendly and attentive, food delicious. Our only suggestion would be the beef ribs on the starters would be good with a sauce. We still had a fabulous evening and all enjoyed our food

This was my first visit to Ty Maderia in a while but the service,food and atmosphere is still excellent. My wife and myself really enjoy our lunch yesterday.

So on the plus side- staff are friendly and there's a lively atmosphere inside. The food looks fresh and the kitchen gets the food out quickly. But I have no idea how this place gets such amazing reviews I'm afraid. We went for what seemed the signature dish- the hanging kebabs. The meat was fine, - a little tough perhaps but I guess fi you cook lamb, pork and chicken on the same skewer that will happen. Accompanied by some sad looking potatoes with no seasoning and some battered bland cauliflower. It's fine for maybe a quick eat or a casual lunch but not somewhere i'd return ti.

Visited Ty Madeira as a party of 7 for a birthday celebration on a week night. We found the service to be superb and the menu range excellent. Didn’t find the hanging chicken kebabs particularly flavoursome however and they were a little over-cooked for my liking. Additionally, you do need to book well in advance (months) if there are any music gigs or sporting events taking place in Cardiff on the day you’re due to visit. It took me repeated attempts to get a reservation here as it is very popular.

Great find in Cardiff. An authentic Portuguese restaurant serving an excellent range of traditional dishes. Particularly enjoyed the swordfish skewers, but there's also a wide range grilled meats, fresh fish and vegetarian options. Friendly, attentive staff and a nice atmosphere.

Genuinely a true 5 star experience. The service was exceptional and the food was even better. A true authentic Portuguese restaurant that are often very difficult to find. Although it's in the heart of Cardiff, it's easy to miss but I'll be adding it back on my list of places to go again. Superb!

Visited with our son during the Uni. Open Day and the restaurant added the icing. Staff were smiling and helpful - Sea Bass was the best my wife has had and skewers 8.5 / 10 (little dry). Wish we had a Ty Madeira near us in Kent. Over £100 for 3 of us but seems to be the norm these days for such a meal.

Met my family here for celebration.they love the place and food ! Like a lot of peoplei know ...was lovely and clean ..quite busy. Nice spaces between tables . .food looked nice staff were very nice .kind friendly ..however the food is not for me so sorry. I had cheese garlicbread but to me was exactlysame ascheese on toast not what i expected but maybe its the way they do it ..i also had the lamb skewer which was suppose to be well done but it was pink and very very toughhard to chew .i really wanted to say somerhing but no one likes a moaner and it should have come well done .. the plates are tobig ?? Looked like i had no food ..cauliflower was very verynice thou ..did have desert was lovely but to small..i can see why people go its a warming atmosphere and quality food ifcooked to liking but its was not to mine i dnt think i would return as it is not cheap and for price i want to thoroughly enhoy my food .sorryand thankyou .

Wasn't going to review last week's visit,but had such a lousy experience, feel I have to. Put it bluntly,2 main meals were changed. Staff didn't seem surprised. Fillet,and beef pasta were sent back. Not fresh pasta,beef tough,and Fillet looked like it had been cooked for the day before. Beef was changed to chicken at suggestion of server!! Did he know something we didn't? Apologies all round but no reduction on bill.

Came here with my Girlfriend on my Birthday & had their 2 Course Set Lunch for £15.95 each excluding the cost of drinks & was everything authentically Portuguese. The Staff were very pleasant & efficient in all ways & the food plus Wine etc was very good. Not Cheap but, worth the money.

I absolutely love this restaurant. We went on a Saturday evening it was very busy but the service from the staff is so good . We ordered drinks and when they came we ordered the meals. Of our party of seven 5 went for the skewers , two mixed meat , two chicken and monkfish , there was also monkfish available non skewered and I chose the chicken tymaderia . The food arrived quickly and was served with potato cubes and battered cauliflower . Sides of sweet potato fries and cheese garlic bread came too. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals . We then opted for desserts , the profiteroles were delicious , others chose more drinks , the cocktails we ordered were sublime espresso martini. And a watermelon 🍉one . This restaurant isn’t cheap but is worth it for a special occasion

First time going, excellent food and brilliant service. Only negative comment is they do not mention in menu outside or on line that the meat and seafood is fresh and of the best quality and can’t wait to go back.

First impressions are good. It's nicely laid out and the open kitchen with the refrigerated fresh fish, seafood and meats, show you it's all freshly cooked. However it's the little things that often matter more. Arguments in the kitchen are on show and not what anyone wants to see or hear. Food was delicious with the exception of the chipped potatoes that were tasteless. Grilled spare ribs were also unseasoned and very hard work as a starter. Birthdays were good fun with a sing along and party shaker by the waiters. Unfortunately after we finished our main course, no one revisited us for over 30 mins so we asked for the bill and didn't bother asking for deserts or coffees. Finally, the kitchen appeared to close down early, even when new customers were still arriving. Produce was packed into tupperware containers in full view. Not great for anyone arriving as the display we were greated with, they didn't see. This is not good. Kitchen should only cleardown when service is finished. Not very professional. Would we go again? There were a lot of very nice meals coming out of the kitchen so maybe we would but unfortunately, this was a special trip for us, as we are not local , so maybe not.

Real nice meal, one of the best I have had in a while. Table at 530pm, place was very busy on arrive but this did not effect service. The waiting staff where all very friendly and laughing and joking with the customers all the time. It's a very friendly atmosphere. We had two of the prawn and monkfish skewers which where out of this world!! Really well seasoned and cooked. Great BBQ taste. The sides where also very high standard. I noticed the slice size on the red onion in the salad being very fine, care was taken to prepare these dishes. The kebab comes with a side of potatoes and battered coliflower which was to die for and the sauces (white or red) are very good and home made. We also ordered the Portuguese salad which was very nice. My wife ordered some sort of corn flower covered potatoe dish which was also amazing. Didn't see what is what called on the menu. Would highly recommend. Zero complaints and really enjoyed our evening out.

We hadn't been here for ages because we didn't like the atmosphere as much as in their old place, but we decided to give it a go again before going to the Tramshed. I'm so glad we did. They have improved the internal layout and lighting towards the front and its much better. We walked in and booked a few hours ahead and asked if they still did the salt crust Bass and they said they had a dozen and would keep us a big one to share. It was amazing. Cooked to perfection and beautifully filleted at the table. my mouth is watering just writing this review. The service was really friendly and helpful and we enjoyed the wine that was recommended to us as well. Book ahead and if you want the sea Bass, reserve it in advance.

I’ve visited the restaurant so many times over the years. But think sadly, it will prob be the last! Myself and my daughter went here for lunch, all was well for the first 5-10min, we were seated right in front of the ‘kitchen’. Bad move….the way the head chef was speaking to the chef was absolutely shocking, shouting constantly, making us feel really uncomfortable, it’s not something you expect to hear whilst enjoying a nice lunch. It was really embarrassing, in particular he was constantly shouting, belittling and clapping his hands at a very young waiter, can’t have been any older than 18, and was prob in his first Job. I was absolutely disgusted! The poor waiter was working so hard, it was so busy in there, but the way this chef spoke was vile. I felt like confronting him myself. It’s put us off going back. I emailed the restaurant, had a reply back 3 days later, thanking me for feedback, and that the chef runs a very tight ship, which I get, but you do NOT speak to your staff in this way! Vile!

You always get great food and the service is top notch one of the many great restaurants in Cardiff. If you have a party it is ideal but if you want a quiet, romantic meal for two it might not be the perfect place. Fabulous food, delicious wine and a fun place to eat.

An authentically decorated Madeira restaurant, with friendly, knowledgeable staff who will advise on the menu and wines, and are never too busy to stop and chat about the beautiful island of Madeira ❤️. We had gorgeous ribeye steak, with Portuguese sauce, fried potatoes and of course, the legendary battered cauliflower 😍. Our red wine, Sao Sebastiao (Lisbon) went down very well. Dessert was Portuguese tart with cream/ ice cream. An excellent meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary, with the added joy of a complimentary shot of Madeira wine with a celebration song, sung by two of the staff. Thank you all, we had a wonderful meal and will return soon.

Great place. Really big inside. Attentive staff 3 of us chose the Arroz Mario's. Huge portion packed with well cooked fish and seafood. Delicious. One of us had the hanging kebab and thoroughly enjoyed. Good value. Would eat here again if we are ever back in Cardiff

Wow! What amazing place. This restaurant is much bigger than first appears. It has very subdued lighting which gives a fantastic ambiance. There's a huge selection of dishes on the menu. Fish & kebabs are displayed in the counter cabinet. Staff are very attentive. BEWARE......

Equisite food and good value for money. We went with 2 kids to the restaurant and served the lunch menu. The food was not only exquisite but also plenty of it. The kids were very happy and the vibe of the restaurant was nice.
