Food is stunning!!! Best chippy I've had in a while

WOW absolutely fantastic, best baguette I've had in a long time, loads of filling really good quality. Friendly and very good value for money

Chips are as you’d expect from a proper chippy but fish maybe the worst I’ve had

My regular Chippy had closed at 10 pm so I looked in the direction of Cowbridge Road East and discovered the Canton Fish Bar. It looked a very ordinary sort of place but don't be fooled by appearances. The cod and chips I had were the best I have had in Cardiff in my 26 years of living in the City. Cod freshly cooked with chips firm on the outside and soft inside. Unlike the soggy chips from certain chippers in Cardiff. It will now be my favorite Chippy in Cardiff. The proprietor was friendly and helpful and told me he had been there for over 20 years. Highly recommended.

Had fish and chips, potato fritter and jumbo sausage. Very tasty, fresh food. Light, crispy batter and meaty fish.

A traditional fish and chip shop. Great take away pie and chips at a good price. Service was pleasant. We're new to the area but this will become a regular stop off

Great fish and chips! Really cooked right and tasty. Also want to thank the owner who let me have the food when I was a few coins short (my silly self left my card at home). Really made me feel welcome and will definitely go again. ☆☆☆☆☆

Chips were overcooked, dry and the oil seemed and tasted quite overused. Chips weren't hot as it was a portion in the basket when we arrived but could have been kept a little warmer. The vinegar was really strongly sour, not as tasty as other places. Clean looking front end so giving 3 stars but definitely need to improve on the taste.

went couple of weeks ago with my son. Employee saw us waiting 5mins early.. but even after 10mins he refused to look our way and didn't open on time and 15mins later still seeing us there and refusing to acknowledge us still didnt open.. bloody rude .. would have expected more from Muslims but absolutely disgusted.. avoid.. there is a lovley halal one not too far away in Ely and customers service is brilliant

This place used to be excellent but not anymore today I had a large fish and it was like chewing rubber it was the worst fish I've ever had I will avoid it in future

Best chips in canton Cardiff at the moment

I had feedback last time on our order we didn't get , and received and accepted Thanks I popped in there today to grab some chips to share with my boys . I asked of the chips were large (as requested ) they appeared a small (or smaller bag) bag. So was given a potato fritter to compensate as chips were cooking (none left ) My 4 year old said his chips were hard and wasn't able to chew them., I had to agree they were likely the worst chips I've bought for a long time. At £2,90 blimey . The chick and mushroom pie was not all that great tbh . Overall I cook better food at home that my children eat without quibble . Won't return sorry poor food. Oh and if you're going to.thriw a chip or 2 back onto the pile keep your hands away from your face. Hygiene is important.

Quality and quantity of food is fantastic. Unfortunately my latest order consisted of chicken curry and chips, chicken kebab with burger meal deal. Chicken curry and chips had salt and vinegar, chicken kebab only just visible in the tray then the burger meal with chip had no salt or vinegar on the chips. Crazy fool whoever did these meals, I don't pay for curry to have salt and vinegar with it, nor do I expect chips to be unsalted. There were no options for salt and vinegar nor mild, medium or hot curry. I deserved through Deliveroo if that helps you.

Fantastic proper chippy chips. Crisp on the outside, and fluffy inside. so much better then the chips from the Chinese takeaway around the corner from where I live.

Normally I would give this restaurant a higher rating. However, I have always ordered via Just-Eat. Today the website claimed that my food had been delivered, but it hadn't, and no-one seems to know what happened. The restaurant told me Just-Eat should deal with the problem, and Just-Eat told me it was the responsibility of the restaurant. Neither of them was prepared to re-order my food and Just-Eat claimed they couldn't authorise a refund without a 48 hour investigation. So I;m hungry and out-of-pocket.

Fish and chips was great, chips were cooked beautifully and the fish including the batter was also excellent. Chap behind counter seemed pleasant... and he actually put a decent amount of salt and vinegar on, which is something of a rarity in chip shops nowadays. Definitely pop in here again if passing.

Very poor delivery time. Ordered food and a cyclist delivered it over an hour later. Cold and uneatable. Why should I accept that? They didn't call to say it will be late and when I tried to call them there was no answer. Still their loss will not order from them again and will not recommend them to anyone else

I have ordered via JustEat and Deliveroo many times. After blatantly missing an item from our order when I contacted them over the phone I was blatantly lied too saying that I never ordered it in the first place. After discussing this with JustEat that confirmed that was in fact incorrect and a straight up lie. Having ordered at least twenty plus times in the past, I will be taking my business else where.

After repeating my order back to me I can only feel he actively tried to short change me. I say this as it was late at night. I had, had a drink. He repeated my order thus knowing his prices I feel that mistake on a simple order shouldn't be made.

I looked at website prices, 2 large fish and Small Chips was supposed to be 12 pound..I had 2 large fish, i small and 1 large chips, he charged me 14.50..I got home, the so called 2 large fish, both were 35 % of fish a chunk of batter..The chips were so bad, even my dog wouldn't eat them..They tasted like they had been cooked twice and left..We ate about 20% of the chips..Waste of 14.50, shame because i was looking forward to them having just moved to this area..Would never go there again.Thanks but no thanks.

I visited this chip shop twice in one week. The chips are nice but the owner on the other hand is very abrupt demanding me to put a review of his service & the shop. He has put me off to return. I will go elsewhere where my custom is appreciated!!

Chips ok, fish not great. Forgot to out in a bag of chips, and charged me for a large sausage in batter instead of small.

Best take away I have had for a long time. Food was amazing. Usually most places serve dry chips and burgers are never so good but you’re food was absolutely perfect. Will be ordering again soon. Keep up the good work.

I'v been going here for years, such a lovely friendly owner...the fish is beautifully cooked fresh on request...give it a try and see

dirty cold chippy with the charisma of a slug. I called to ask if they had seating and I was assured of a sit down hot meal, I presumed at least a knife and fork ! the fish was old and the plate was Eco friendly paper ,not even a box with a wooden pronged fork. The fish was greasy and after walking over 20 min to get there I relied on the reviews and looked forward to a quiet sit down meal, A BIG MISTAKE.

Truly awful I would give 0 stars if I could. I was told the food would be there in an hour. I waited an hour and a half, then called the restaurant. The guy on the other end of the phone gave me a variety of different excuses. I then waited another hour and called again again I was told the food would be ready arriving in 15 minutes. Eventually he cancelled my order I don't know why he couldn't have done this in the first place. Rather than make me wait 2.5 hours. Never saw my money back:(

Had a takeaway delivered from the Canton Fish Bar whilst staying in the city. Very good food, great customer service, friendly and helpful driver. The only downside was the length of time it took, the 30 minutes estimated delivery time turned out to be 90 minutes. Apart from that, all good.

Bought a large portion of chips earlier. Was disgusted to discover a curly black hair amongst the chips. I shan't be going there again.

Just popped in and fancied fish and chips as had thick sliced bread at home for sarnies lol. Fish was cooked fresh and to perfection , chips were great as well. Great service and value for money, Small piece of fish which wasn't small and chips £5. Try it guys x

Excellent fish and chips on both occasions...nothing was too much trouble and cooked fresh . The portions were generous and very tasty .Lived locally many years and it's been a great turn around in standard. Well done !
