Turnpike Tavern in Liverpool

Lovely family pub. The food is always great and the staff cant do enough for you. They have a massive garden to enjoy in the summer.

We went out with friends, there were 5 of us in total, when we were at the bar we were asked if we had booked a table to which we said no, we did not think you had to book a table and had never had to do this on all the previous times we had been there. We were then informed we could not order food as the quiz was on and all the tables were booked up! We explained there were 5 of us who on average with food and drinks would be spending about £25 each, the person in charge was not bothered and told us we could sit at a table but we had to leave the table by a certain time. I cannot believe we were treated so badly and the pub would rather earn a few quid from quizzers rather than £125 approx from people wanting to eat and drink. The manager/staff member was not helpful at all and I think we were treated awfully.

I've been quite often, it’s a shame that the previous manager Mike left but i have to say that since the new manager Mike (confusing i know) took over the atmosphere and quality of the food and drinks have continued to impress and he’s doing a fantastic job. The pub is clean and appealing and the staff always make me feel welcome when i pop in whether it’s for a meal or just a quick drink after work. I would definitely recommend.

Myself and my boyfriend went to visit some of our friends and when they brought us here at first I was reluctant; I'm not a fan of pub food. That was until I had the infamous stake here, now I'm a fan. The manager (Michael, I believe he's name was) was so welcoming and check on us and our meal which was great as he did this all of his customers and didn't forget one. That's the kind of care I want when I walk into anywhere, I would differently come again! Great food, quick service and lovely atmosphere. All the staff were super friendly. This is overall great place to spend time with friends, family and loved ones!!!!

What a lovely spot! My husband and I popped in for some dinner and a few drinks whilst visiting Liverpool. I can't say a bad thing about this place. The food came out so quickly and was super tasty and they had such a great range of drinks! Loved it!

I popped in for dinner with my hubby, staff were lovely, nothing was too much trouble. Staff were accommodating when I asked for something different with my order. Food was lovely when it arrived. Service with a smile also. Will be returning.

Great night as usual. Good quality food (chilli or lasagna always very tasty). Reasonable prices - especially for meals. Michael and the rest of the staff always friendly. Here most weeks and always made to feel welcome.

This review is a long time coming as myself, hubby and friends are regulars here. We mainly come at weekends for dinner, but have been plenty of others times for breakfast. Michael the current Manager and his team do an excellent job to ensure that all their customers feel valued and are provided for. It's always a pleasure on rare occasion to see Michael mingle with patrons to check how their meal is or if they want any more drinks, or just to say hello. I've always found Michael and the team at the Turnpike to be pleasant serving, polite and courteous. You can tell that the staff enjoy working there and this must be because of Michael's excellent mangement of staff. It's a pleasure for us as customers to see how happy team are to be there, which is why we keep returning. Its important to have a great manager. The kitchen team are also wonderful and work hard to get meals served in a timely manner. We love coming here. The atmosphere is always vibrant and Michael goes the extra mile to serve his customers because he's great at what he does and always has a friendly smile. Absolutely awful. Over the last 2 years we’ve been here for food about 5 times, each time the food gets worse and worse. Went Thursday 30th June. Waited an hour for food due to it being busy which is understandable. Steak come and was like chewing jack sparrows boots!! Always a long wait for dunks at the bar absolute waste of £50

Been here with my nan and family few times now and the service and food is always spot on, had 2 mac and cheese, fish and chips and jerk skewers was served by the manager Mike and young lady at the bar, will deffo be back again soon

Came here today 9/4/2023 for our anniversary meal, I had the Sirloin Steak my husband had the Chinese style pork belly, I also had a sweet, pimp your brownie with chocolate buttons and minstrels, we enjoyed all of our meal, good atmosphere although Liverpool were playing, staff were very pleasant and helpful, we will definitely be coming back again.

Can’t say enough good things about the place, clean, hot food, great drinks, fair prices, short waiting times, friendly staff who don’t hesitate to go the extra mile, Manager Mick seems to have the place running like a well oiled machine

Wonderful thing about mobile phones are the Apps. Sound Level Meter Apps are over whelmed by the Background Music. 95 decibels is way to high for comfort and the staff are unable to lower it when asked. Conversation is impossible and this needs urgent attention....

Pub is my local so regularly go there. First visit since cov19 and I know things are different but food wasn't very nice and staff were not very helpful apart from the lovely girl on the door. Staff serving were so miserable and unhelpful. Let's hope it gets better. I would just like to point out that lady on the door was lovely throughout.

We regularly visit the Turnpike as it’s our local pub. First visit since COVID-19 lockdown! So happy with the service! Sanitising station as you walk into the pub and tables spaced out lovely. Michael showed us to our table, and was really helpful in showing us the “new normal”. Lauren was our waitress and was very helpful with the new ordering service on the app and was really attentive! I have been coming to this pub since it opened, it’s always been my local. I was apprehensive to come in during these uncertain times but I can confidently say that the staff have gone out of their way to make my experience as welcoming as always. Kiann in particular has been very attentive with the customers whilst also sticking to government guidelines which makes me feel safe to drink here but also keeps a good atmosphere. Happy to keep drinking here even with the new rules!

ordered 3 mix grills came out on a small plate instead of a sizzlingplate it was all on top of everything spent 51 pounds on extras did not enjoy wasted most of it up graded to 8 ounce steak looked like a 2 ounce steak wont be going back again should of asked for my money back

Came in with the family for tea, 3 out of 4 meals requested were not available. Which was a surprise, but then at 6 pm on a Saturday night when they claim to serve food till 10pm they said they had no salad or no chicken!! Unbelievable!!!I spoke to the manager who had no interest in customer service or trying to understand the principles of supply and demand with feeble excuses of being busy. He then walked away without trying to resolve my complaints or bothering with my feedback. Having been here many times before was very disappointed at the poor service and lack of consideration today.

Well just meet friends out of Liverpool and walked in and looking at food menu it seemed the same as all pubs in tone and looking at the photos on it it seemed like it was going to come out and look nothing like the photo as most pubs in town But no and wow the staff set the seen for a great night and then come the food. Cooked to order great portions and really top shelf best value for money so far in Liverpool. Well worth a stop inn team Great effort team we had a great catch up and will be back in December

Always find the place clean, and the food really tasty. Have eaten breakfast (I make the most of the free refills!) - and have eaten in the evening. Sometimes there are waits for the food but that's only when it's really busy(My tip - download the sizzling pub app as you get loads of offers there!)

Vine aquí anoche con la otra mitad y los niños, personal del bar muy amable. Me dijeron que habría 30 minutos de espera para la comida ya que el pub estaba lleno, todas nuestras comidas llegaron después de 20 minutos. Sin duda recomendaría este pub y definitivamente volveremos

Impecable como siempre y mi budín de esponja de melaza era en realidad un pudín de esponja de melaza y no un bizcocho con jarabe de melaza derramado; este fue un punto de bonificación adicional para mí, ya que soy bastante exigente con los postres. ¿Gracias a todos los que trabajaron allí hoy?

Broke off our walk along the Cheshire lines footpath which is close by. Large car park. Warm inside with background music and football screened. Ordered 2x Jacket potato/ tuna mayo comes with salad. Waitress informed us they didn't have any salad (Saturday afternoon!) so we said we would have the jackets anyway, but could they knock something off the price? Waitress refused saying the salad was free anyway. Otherwise clean eating area. Toilets clean, but 2x Hand dryers didn't work. More a pub than a restaurant

Last twice I called in for lunch. Waiting time was 45 minutes for food and wasn’t busy at all, even others around the table we sat at where shocked when I cane back and told my partner

We met some friends here for our annual pre Christmas get together and had a great lunch. It was busy with Xmas parties and the atmosphere was really bouncing. Couldn’t fault the food which was pretty cheap and came out in no time. Good range of drinks available including Christmas cocktails. Would definitely return. Great little pub tucked away off the M62.

Visited here a few times and every time has been such a great visit, the staff are so helpful and always cheerful. The food always comes out hot and delicious. It dose get really busy during peak times but cannot fault anything about this place.

When we visit Liverpool we do try other places to eat but always end up comparing them to the Turnpike. The staff are first class, the food is amazing and the prices are very reasonable. We had dinner and went back in the morning for the enormous breakfast - well, it would be rude to expect our daughter to cook! Can't wait to go back again :P

Quite enjoyed the food at the Turnpike, we've been a few times and on the odd occasion found the food to be over cooked due to the pub being rather busy, shouldn't be an excuse but if the place is less busy then the good is better.

Visited with my 11 year old for a quick bite to eat in the school holidays. Was really busy so I did expect a wait and to be fair I didn’t wait as long as expected. That was the good point, unfortunately it went downhill from there once the food arrived. I ordered the lasagne and I have no idea what I was served as whilst it looked like lasagne I am unable to describe what it tasted like. It came with a side salad which consisted of one cut into quarters tomato. A couple of tiny slithers of pepper and a plate of shredded iceberg lettuce. Our mains were cleared and after half an hour my child’s dessert hadn’t appeared so I went to the bar to ask could they bring it out. After another 20 minutes nothing arrived so I went back to the bar again where I was asked had I already ordered it (wouldn’t be waiting almost an hour for something I’d not ordered now would I love). I was then quizzed over who I’d asked 20 minutes prior and then told my ice cream was on its way. I hadn’t ordered ice cream, I’d ordered sticky toffee pudding and custard. The ice cream was then brought out and I again told them that is not what I ordered. My order was then checked on the till which is when they confirmed oh yes you didn’t order ice cream, we’re really sorry, your orders been mixed up. After another ten minutes the sticky toffee pudding turned up and well let’s just say I wish I’d have ordered the ice cream after all. I’ve never tasted a sticky toffee pudding like it in my life. It was hard, it was tasteless, it was absolutely tiny and possibly the worst I’ve ever had. I would avoid eating here, even my 11 year old said he wouldn’t go again. For nice food and lovely service try the Derby Lodge round the corner as there is no comparison between the two. The Turnpike used to be a great pub with lovely food but since the most recent takeover it really has gone downhill.

familia de 3 llegó sobre 4. 30 pm hoy. bastantes mesas vacías para elegir, ninguna de ellas limpia, pero de todos modos pensamos que al menos no estaríamos esperando mucho tiempo para comer. mala suposición de haber hecho. Esperé casi una hora y bueno, ¿qué puedo decir? tuve lasaña, era horrible, una ensalada pequeña consistía en unos trozos de lechuga rallados muy secos, unos 3 trozos de pimienta y una décima parte de un tomate, patatas fritas y duras, medio cocidas. El gammon de mi marido no está tan mal, pero los guisantes les gustan los pellets y son muy secos y también con chips fríos, duros y medio cocidos. la tercera comida también con chips que podrían haber sido utilizados como misiles. Tengo que decir que tuve que ir a la cama tan pronto como llegué a casa y tomé un poco de peptobismal, me sentí como si hubiera comido cemento. Dejamos la mayor parte y la señora siguió preguntando si habíamos terminado para poder recoger los platos. Seguimos repitiendo que habíamos terminado, ya que no podíamos comer más, eventualmente ella tomó los platos. Hay tanta competencia, ¿por qué alguien aguantaría esto? nunca más

Visited this pub today and although Is was very busy the staff were brilliant and gave the best service they could. Great friendly atmosphere when you go in too. Food was served nice and hot and we didn’t even have to wait long either. Defiantly be visiting again.

The food was awful. The tables were very dirty and sticky as was the floor. It does not have a lot to recommend it sorry to say.

Entre 5 y 8. 30 pm, este lugar puede estar muy ocupado. . . eso se debe a que es un gran pub pequeño, cerca de la estación Broadgreen, con un gran jardín para disfrutar del sol y tomar unas copas. Generalmente vamos adentro si estamos planeando comer algo. El personal siempre le dará un tiempo de espera aproximado para los pedidos de alimentos para que cuando haga su pedido tenga una idea aproximada de cuánto tiempo pasará antes de que llegue. Siempre podemos encontrar algo que nos guste en el menú. . . aunque mi favorito incluye las costillas a la barbacoa. Un miércoles es noche de preguntas. . . . es gratis y cualquiera puede participar. Optamos por quedarnos después de nuestra comida y unirnos al cuestionario. . . muy divertido, aunque no ganamos.

Pedimos 3 comidas esperar 1 hora no me importó buena comida después de una hora 2 comidas vinieron y esperaron 3 por otra media hora y no llegó como se ordenó simplemente decepcionado por el servicio y la falta de comunicación entre la cocina y los clientes o un personal del bar no sabe cuándo volveremos gracias

Esperé demasiado tiempo para comer, aunque la comida era buena, tenía demasiada hambre, esperé más de 30 minutos y el asiento también es limitado.

Mi esposa y yo decidimos pasar por aquí camino a casa desde el trabajo para comer un poco. . . . . . . . esperamos 1 hora y 40 minutos para que llegara la comida. Nos quejamos, luego nos recibió el "chef" que dijo: "¿qué quieres que haga? Soy el único en la cocina. . . tal vez debería salir yo mismo ". La comida era bastante pobre, ¡aunque no teníamos más remedio que comerla porque teníamos tanta hambre!

Poor had to get up and keep asking for what we ordered staff didn't even give us cutlery staff are not interested mark was really helpful not.... poor service gave us a refund on vegetarian meal even though my wife left her meal as she had to keep complaining. Would never eat here again thanks Mark for being so apologetic not. Dont eat here....
