We called today , but unfortunately, we didn't stop . The car park and the paths were so muddy we just didn't want to get out of the car . Considering the popularity facilities should be better , it was a mess !

Warm welcome, wonderful service, high quality food. The range and quality of food options was excellent. I was not keen on the coffee blend (or the way it was maybe served via the barista machine, but I concede that I do tend to judge places via coffee rather than food) but the attention to detail and the wonderful options with the food at so early in the morning could not be faulted. Very happy with Tu Hwnt - now the favourite place for us in the area and will always come back. The two people who served us were so friendly and very welcoming. Plus - bought lots of presents for others from the tearooms - locally produced. Definitely recommend.

The service here is pretty much non-existent. We were totally ignored on arrival, as were many other families - we saw a family of four leave after waiting around to be seated or even acknowledged. The (mostly incredibly young) staff seem to have received zero hospitality training, and the adult I saw didn't seem fussed either. We only had a tea and a coffee. The tea was decent. The coffee was poor. For a tea room, these are two basic items that should be easily nailed. As other people have mentioned, the outside toilet is pretty grim. Surely having a staff member clean out the dead and alive spiders should be part of daily cleaning? No paper towels either. Such a shame, as this is a beautiful building in a lovely setting. But there have been a lot of these type of reviews lately, and not only are they not replied to here, none of the issues are addressed. It shouldn't be too hard for staff to greet customers, thank them when they leave, and perhaps even smile occasionally. None of these things happened once in the 30 mins we were there.

Always visited here, but today so disappointed. The once beautiful fresh out of the oven plain scones are no more, instead a small fruit scones that tasted dry, the lemon cake did not taste homemade . The tea was tasty though. You now have to order at the till which is fine and not a problem, but the girl serving didn’t even speak apart from uttering the cost. Where are the friendly staff ? And where are the beautiful scones ? If you find both of these then we will be back. If not then we are put off visiting what was once our favourite tea rooms . Ps .., are there new owners ?

On arrival a few empty tables, but all wigh used crockery etc. We chose one in corner with the last customer plates tea pot etc . I went to order two gardeners lunch. It says to ask what flavour pate is available. So I asked this young girl at the counter she had no idea what I was talking about I pointed to the menu and she showed no interest. Then a more mature lady said its chicken. So I ordered 1 for the 2 of us ( £21 ) I told her I small table needed clearing up. After 15mins the plates etc not collected. There were plenty of staff and few customers !!!. So I cleared the table myself . After several mire minutes by now 20min I went to ask could we have least have the tea. Then rudely another young waitress said we don't do gardeners lunch anymore. !!! Then I realised we had no lunch ordered . Finally we got the jacket potato with welsh cheese and salad. The drinks arrived and certainly was instant coffee. Then the food came it looked and tasted like cheap red Leicester! The menu said with chutney. No chutney . The bill came to £28:plus WHAT WHAT Sadly we went there to check it put before we suggested a family of gathering of 12 plus booked it for afternoon tea. I'm so glad we did as its now deffo crossed off. My observations young un trained staff with no customer services experience . They whole experience was dreadful My advice to anyone thinking about going there find somewhere else Just as a add on only rated 2 in national standards kitchen hygiene. Think about that

Loved my visit here! The food was amazing and so tasty with an excellent portion size. Everything was fresh and homemade which gave it that extra bit of tastiness. Service was quick and friendly. I had a nice chat with the owner and the cook who told me a lot of interesting information about the building and its history! Definitely sounds haunted. Can’t wait to visit again in the summer when the leaves are green again.

After visiting this pretty tea rooms for 35 years my husband and I decided to go for lunch today as a walk down memory lane. Dog friendly and clean. Now it’s not waitress service. We ordered. People who ordered after us were served. Our drinks didn’t come nor did our food. We had to go up to the counter to chase up our order. They didn’t know what drinks we ordered and they chased up our sandwiches. Food came , no drinks, no cutlery , no crisps, no horseradish, no stuffing on the sandwich. We complained. The drinks arrived with the condiments and the waitresses bracelet dangling in my husbands coffee. The food was bland and dry. The beef was tough and the turkey tasteless. We are true lovers of this place. Haven’t been for a couple of years and were shocked to see how it has gone down the pan. Staff not particularly helpful and food below average. Over £11 for a sandwich !!! My long love affair with this tea rooms is over. Never again. Would not recommend. Deeply saddened to have to write this bad review.

We haven’t visited for nearly two years so we were very excited to be visiting again for a quick lunch. We ordered a ploughman’s platter and a pâté plate. On the menu it stated the price, just inder £20 each came with either a pot of tea or coffee, followed by scones with jam and cream. We showed ourselves to our table. After waiting for a while for someone to come and take our order we went to stand by the counter only to be told we needed to sit down and wait for someone to come and take our order. Following placing our order the salad and the pâté arrived. It was OK. Nothing special and we’ve had worst, but it was very ordinary and not worth the price we were paying. Once we finished we waited… and waited for someont to come and clear our plates and bring us the scones. We stacked our plates to make it obvious we were finished. We tried to make eye contact with the staff. After 20 minutes we decided to leave. We felt completely ignored by the staff.I went to the counter to ask for the bill and we told the waitress we hadn’t reveived the scones. She asked if we had asked anyone for the scones. We told her it said on the menu that both meals were to be “followed with scones with jam and cream”. Apparently once we were ready we should have told them we were ready for the scones. No one told us this when we placed our order! We were offered the scones as a take away, which we accepted. However there was another 15 minute wait for the scones - and no apology. The whole experience left us feeling very disappointed! We won’t be visiting again.

Visited as we’d seen this place serves the best Welsh rarebit and a stunning building however we visited out of season for the leaves on the outside. Little cat park and not too busy and lovely little view of the river and bridge and we had a sunny day so the benches out front were packed. The toilets are round the back but no through way so you have to go out front and round back. Overall not a great experience. The building itself is really chilly and took ages to warm up, there was a fire but not on. The food came out in good time for our table but not the same for some who ordered jacket potatoes before we arrived and were only served as we were leaving. I was desperate to try this rarebit so overlooked the price £13.95 a plate thinking it would be the bees knees and it’s wasn’t. 1 slice of rarebit with some salad chucked on the side and coleslaw. For kids you have 1 main choice of a sandwich but 4 fillings to choose. My lad wanted jam and this cost £5.50 and was again 1 barm cake with jam on and a small handful of crisp. Not a fantastic selection and makes this place very much a tourist trap. Over £40 for cheese on toast, a jam butty and 2 teas. We will not be returning and is a great shame as this beautiful building.

Have not visited here for a long time, and i won't be going back in a hurry, such a shame as i have fond memories of coming here, the welcome was always warm, clean, and the scones where always home made and the staff always helpful. Unfortunately things have changed, we chose a table, unfortunately it wasn't until i'd ordered that i looked under the table, bits of food, that had been trodden into the carpet, they do take dogs, as there was dog slober too, but a dustpan and brush and a wet cloth would have solved that problem. Food was very basic, but the prices weren't !!!.

To be treated by a rather rude welcome form the person who seemed to be managing to the late good and forgotten parts of order, we sadly rate this 1. Having booked and gained email confirmation, then due to circumstances discussed a change in booking time we felt being rudely challenged on our arrival time was a bit much. It didn't feel very clean upon entering. Nice welsh rarebit. It is a luxurious treat as the cheese on toast is 11 quid for 1 round with a side of salad and colesaw. OK scone . Tea terrible! Sorry guys I hate leaving a mixed review but feel I have too. Plus side exceptionally clean and on arriving greeted by a friendly waitress. We love bringing our family from Ireland here. However that did change. Ordered our food, a bit of a wait although it was not busy but again that’s ok. Shout out for the hot chocolate that was amazing but the tea has changed. Food came waitress asked if it was tuna or turkey I wanted. Told her it was turkey so she gave my my plate. Happy with what I had got ready to eat it and spotted something on my salad from my sandwich. I asked my husband to taste it as it looked like tuna. He tried it and said it was tuna. Given I can’t eat fish I’m glad he did try it. Told the waitress who did in all honesty apologise and took it away to replace which I felt bad about as I hate waste. My new sandwich arrived…..but on the same plate that she took away, just replacing the sandwich, not the tuna tainted salad. As my roll wasn’t touching the salad I ate it and it was nice. I really didn’t want to create more fuss over the salad. But this needs addressing if I was fish intolerant this could have been a problem for you. Little tweaks needed to make it work and I really hope you do, it’s a beautiful place that we love visiting.

Location and building setting is absolutely stunning, the true picture postcard building and setting. Unfortunately that's where it ends, possibly the worst service ever experienced, inside was an elderly couple from America on holiday, after waiting a longtime not being acknowledged at all the Americans jokingly asked me and my partner "is this a UK tradition to ignore customers" should have left at that point, some time after watching 3 orders through the hatch (not back to back each with a good period of nothing happening between) and no acknowledgement to the 2x2 in the tea room we left, finally greeted with "oh are you going then" we will try again someday but will use the hatch as from what we experienced that's the only way to have a chance of an order !!! Note a lot of reviews the same and wish we had seen them pre making a special trip over to experience it.

It was always somewhere we wanted to visit and although some of the reviews were not great, we wanted to experience it ourselves. When we arrived we were shown to a table and had ordered and received our food within 10 minutes. The cake display they had by the till/kitchen was amazing! The area this place is situated in is beautiful and whilst we were enjoying our scones the chef was out clearing tables and speaking to a table about the recent flooding they had. We got up to pay and the guy processed our payments and we had to wait for 2 takeaway cakes to be boxed up so we could take some to enjoy the next day. He asked the other waitress to box these up whilst we went round the back to do another job but she just stayed on her phone by the window. Another couple came in and she served them first and after 5 minutes of waiting the guy came back and boxed our cakes up. The waitress who took the new couples order needed to clarify what they had so asked the chef who was clearing tables to confirm again what they wanted. The chef replied (in front of us) “no, they are foreign.” Up until this point we had an ok experience, not as bad as some of the others we have read on here, but once we heard this comment we were in shock and wish we never gave this place our money.

A lovely old building but it turned out to be a disappointment. Had wanted to go for ages and was in the area so booked a table. They were short staffed and turning people away on a really busy day. The prices are a bit steep for what you get in my view. The scones were lovely though. Service very slow and quite disorganised. I hope things improve as it is such a lovely spot and it’s a shame to see a business that could be really thriving struggling in the way this place is at the moment.

Take your business elsewhere. Booked a table for 5 and when arrived was pointed to the only option of a table for two - eventually got crammed onto a table for 4 at best. When trying to order, the majority of the menu they didn't have available so ordered what we could. An hour and a half after arriving finally received the overpriced food only for them to have missed an entire order out! The young (possibly too young) waiters are left to deal with unhappy customers while the others smoke in the back and badmouth the customers! What should have been a lovely birthday meal for my mum was to be honest a huge waste of time and money. Take a picture, then go somewhere deserving of your cash. For those who are gluten free, do not rely on their Gf options either as they didn't have any gluten free bread in!

COMEDY! Doubtless there was a temporary staffing issue because Tu Hwnt I’r Bont has existed for years and always seems busy. The menu looks lovely. We arrived mid-afternoon and wanted tea & cakes - nothing difficult. We had to ask for a menu then over...

Fortunate enough to visit Tu Hwnt i'r Bont with friends, this gem is nestled in the serene Welsh countryside. The decorations add to the experience, with ivy creeping up the exterior walls and the interior a perfect blend of freshness and comfort but all the...

Very disappointing visit today. Have been coming to this place for years to enjoy the treat of a Welsh cream tea. This time the tea was stewed and the scones were hard and crispy on the outside, although the flavour was good. And where is...

Love what the new owners have done with the place, it's fresh and clean but still traditional! The food is lovely and the scones were to die for, so fresh and tasty... Will definitely be back soon 😊

Delicious food and staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We arrived for lunch in a fluster with a hungry baby and an elderly dog on a very wet Tuesday. From the moment we walked in the lobby the staff were lovely, finding us a table in a suitable area and giving us the time and space to get sorted. There was no hurry to order and they bought us coffee and water to heat the baby’s food before we ordered. Once calm was restored and we ordered the service continued to impress and the food was delicious and fairly priced. Credit to all at the hotel.

2 of the main courses were unavailable. The vegetables for the lamb course were unavailable. Alternative vegetables were given which were undercooked and cold. Potato was tasteless and cold . Did mention it to waiter whose response was sorry. £24 for a piece of lamb is unacceptable as I didn't eat the vegetables or potatoes.

Eight adults booked a table here last Wednesday and from the second we stepped into the place we were in love with it. The elegance and charm were extraordinary. Then came the 3 course meal ! Everybody raved about every course. The service was impeccable and if I lived nearer I’d be a regular! Cannot fault one detail .
