Today a friend and I had afternoon tea at Truly Scrumptious and what a good decision it was! The atmosphere is warm and friendly and the staff are obviously intent in serving the best food possible. Everything tasted so fresh. I must say it was the loveliest bread I have been served. We were both absolutely delighted with our visit. The only issue was parking. I have mobility issues and unfortunately had to get someone to drop me off and pick me up but it was still worth it!

Had a lovely meal here today but the woman in charge was extremely rude and abrupt. We felt like she really didn't want us to be here. A piece of advice, get a takeaway and sit somewhere that's pleasant to eat or go elsewhere. Awful awful awful attitude.

My partner and I visited Truly Scrumptious for the first time today. I haven’t been to a cafe for a long time, with being deemed “vulnerable” as I am pregnant but today we thought that we would treat ourselves. We arrived at the cafe and stood by the sign that said “please wait here to be seated.” We stood here for a good 5 minutes, a member of staff had clearly noticed that we had walked in but didn’t say a word to us. I asked whether we could just sit down and she told us that they closed at 4 o clock and we would have 25 minutes to eat our cake and have a drink, which we considered plenty of time. The lady didn’t smile once and wasn’t friendly at all. She took our order and placed our items on the table, didn’t ask whether we needed sugar or anything else. Our drinks were absolutely boiling (even with the milk added) and there was no chance that we would have finished them in twenty minutes without burning our throats! We asked for take away cups, feeling as though we were being in the way by being seated in the cafe, and the lady didn’t even offer to pour them in for us. Not the manner that I would expect at all. If it was too late for us to go into the cafe I would much rather have been told that than to have received the service that we did.

First impression, a clean fresh looking venue with a welcome and a smile. I noted on the menu that any sandwich can be turned into a salad for an extra £1.50. The special was gammon ham with soft cheese and chili jam sandwich. That sounded like it would make a great salad, so I went for it. My partner settled for cheese on toast and we shared a pot of tea for two.

We had lunch here last week, myself and the wife along with our 97 year old grandmother! The room is perfectly English, warm and welcoming and not cramped. We were actually lucky to get in and I'd definitely suggesting booking in if it's a planned visit! Ours was spur of the moment but we were able to be seated quickly and a pot of tea was quickly provided with China cups and saucers. The menu however has a good choice of different dishes from the traditional to the more diverse, simple egg on toast to quesadilla's and everything we saw coming out of the kitchen looked really good. Our meals were delicious and there were empty plates all round! There's some excellent home made cakes as well and a slice of carrot cake finished us all off nicely. And finally, the staff are great too, friendly and professional despite the busy environment. Perfect spot for lunch.

really nice place to brunch, lovely staff, decor etc, everything is so cute with little teapots and sweet finishing touches and the tables are a good size, we'll definitely be back. I'd just like to feedback that drinks were a bit expensive because soda is individually bottled - not a problem but it did prevent me having a second drink and staying. It would also have been nice to have an option of chips or similar because we wanted something on the side with our sandwiches. Presumably there's no fryer available which can't be helped but the wedges (only option) were really, really bad, like embarrassing to even serve, I suspect they were microwaved. Overall a really nice tea room and I might try going for a breakfast and pot of tea next. 2 sodas, 2 sandwiches and 6 potato wedges came to £13.50 so it was reasonable value overall for a cafe. We also noticed some people had cake and yet the menu had no sweet options on it at all. As we were leaving we noticed cake under the side of the counter but people stand there covering it up, shame, I would have loved tea and cake. Thanks

I don't know when the last reviewer visited Truly Scrumptious but his review certainly doesn't echo my experiences of this pleasant little shop. The fact that it is generally busy and that it is better to book a table, shows the popularity and high esteem in which it is held in the area - and beyond. There is an excellent selection of food and the staff are very happy to cater for your needs - both dietary and personal choice - you can mix and match as you go along. The meals are always well prepared and beautifully served and I particularly like their side salads.I have always found the staff to be welcoming, friendly and helpful and, whilst I remember the pregnant lady who used to work there I don't feel that standards have dropped since she left. In fact, there have been several comings and goings with the cheery youngsters who have left to go to Uni.....but the ship sails calmly on.I am hoping that ice cream will soon return to the menu though......and maybe a chiller cabinet for cream cakes. Here's hoping!!

She even provided table service so people could order drinks if and when required. My daughter couldn't have been happier and I would certainly recommend Truly Scrumptious. I visited truly scrumptious with my mum and grandma they was recommended by there friends so I thought I'd go with them to see what all the talk was about. Ell when we arrived there was no greeting we waited and waited to be offered a seat. When we finally got the table it was mucky and full of dirty dishes. I spoke to some off the customers who said truly was absolutely fabulous 2 year or so ago but the atmosphere as disappeared since the heart of the cafe went on maternity leave, well in my disappointing time there where the food was awful and slapdash on the plate the staff where rude and in capable of running a bath to me !! It's safe to say customers are always right if the others are saying it was so good a couple years ago and warm and friendly and treated like you was cared about, bring back the pregnant woman who left I might try it again then but until then I will not recommend the cafe as its under-rated and belongs in a Butty van on wheels at the side of the industrial estate

We visited this sweet little cafe for my partners birthday breakfast as we only live right around the corner and had heard good things about this place.Let's start by saying that whilst this place may be cafe style, it's certainly not your average greasy spoon smelling of oil and run by rude staff. Oh no! This place is very unique, the staff are so polite and welcoming, the decor is cute and cosy and ultimately it goes above and beyond most "cafes".I had the eggs Benedict which is one of my favourite breakfast dishes, I was not let down at all. Great bacon, eggs poached perfectly, buttered muffin toasted just right. My hollandaise sauce wasn't the best but it's hard to get a sauce like that spot on.My partner opted for the classic full English and he ate every last morsel. The latte was also very good and as was the fresh apple juice. We had homemade soup, sandwiches and wedges, along with a pot of tea, served in cute vintage crockery. We even took away 2 enormous slices of cake to devour later!!! All in all, a hugely refreshing change from the big chains, with great food, a family-feel genuine service, and change out of £20 for lunch for 3 - and the cake-away! Four of us have been coming here for lunch regularly since it opened three years ago and our regularity is testimony to the wide range of dishes, including the flexibility to combine what you like on a plate, the appropriate prices and the friendly, always pleasant atmosphere and service. Of course, like other customers, we have sometimes waited for orders to be taken and then for the meals, but popularity is the cause, and this only happens when it is busy. We were all taken aback by the customer who made personal remarks about one of the servers given that the staff really always do their best to please even when they are rushed off their feet.

Truly DisappointingMy wife and I have driven past this place (Truly Scrumptious) on many occasions and often said we should stop and sample a coffee and a cake as the place does look attractive from the outside.Today 18th March 2015) we made the mistake of doing just that.It didn't start well when it seemed to be too much trouble for the waitress to clear a table. Not being sure of how to order I went to the counter only to be told, rather rudely that she would see to us in a minute. Several extended minutes later we did get to place our order - one cappuccino, one coffee and walnut cake for the good lady - one Latte and carrot cake for me. Several more extended minutes later the correct cakes and a cappuccino arrived along with the strangest Latte I have ever seen black coffee and no milk to be seen. Milk was then offered hot or cold. So I thought best make the most of a bad job and requested hot milk. 10 minutes later I had to ask for the milk again much to the waitresses disgust someone dared to ask her for something. Well the milk was almost thrown on the table and off she waddled. No manners were in evidence, not a please, thank you or kiss my nether region. Now you might say I should have done something there and then but not wanting to causes a scene (yes I am English) and due to this waitress possibly being in a hormonal funk due to the pregnancy she was obviously suffering from I let it go.Avoid this place at least for the next few months. Personally I will not be visiting Truly Scrumptious (Aspull) ever again. You would be better off at your local cafe with instant coffee and a shop bought cake served with a smile and decent manners. Call me old school, but manners cost nothing, perhaps the staff at Truly Scrumptious should visit their local cash and carry to see if they have any in stock.

To cut a long story short we had a really good quality afternoon tea with plenty of variety. It was also full to busting with customers queueing! Unique little tea room that has obviously caught the imagination of locals.

Lovely little café. Friendly and efficient staff. Book to ensure a table. Menu interesting and food is always excellent. Lots of choice for vegetarians too. Sister café, Little Truly in Hindley is on a smaller scale but food is just as good. .

This little cafe is tucked away at the end of a parade of shops. I have driven past several times and not imagined it was more than a standard greasy spoon. However, went today on the recommendation of a friend and was pleasantly surprised. The menu has a good range for lunch, from home made soup through to sandwiches and salads, including smoked salmon and goats cheese. There is a list of local suppliers provided on the menu for those who are keen on such things. Tap water was provided. We had thick creamy soup with crusty brown bread, which was very welcome on a damp and autumn day. Afterwards we shared a piece of moist and hearty carrot cake, having struggled to choose from a good range of baking from fat scones to rich chocolate cake. The service was slow, which is the only reason I haven't given 5 stars. However, the place was really busy and we weren't put under any pressure to leave. The staff were friendly and helpful and the place had a lovely relaxed atmosphere of people enjoying good food and company. Prices were excellent, which may account for the shortage of staff at peak periods. :) Certainly recommended.

Being new to the area I was excited to try out this place as it looks very cute from the outside. Initially the appearance inside is lovely except we couldn't understand why all the tables were uncleared and dirty. One member of staff was chatting on her phone and the other was drinking a drink with a teaspoon(?) whilst the place looked very messy and dirty. The drinks took a while but a lovely coffee and in all fairness the food was lovely and the bill was modest.Just a shame the service wasn't spot on.

I like to bring the grandchildren sometimes for ice cream or milk shakes but also like the breakfasts and lunches. It is a child-friendly cafe with books, toys and crayons to keep the little ones amused. It can get quite busy during school holidays & peak times so sometimes be prepared to wait for a table. There are a few tables outside on the front but these look onto a busy main road. There is always a choice of yummy looking home made cakes available and fresh teas and coffee.A small drawback is it can work out a little bit expensive if you're taking a few children.

What a waste of money and time . Waited 15 minutes for a cheese toastie that I had to pay 2 pounds 75p for!! For two pieces of bread an cheese what a rip off . Then to make it better it was squashed together the bread not even on top of the opposite piece plus all the edges burnt to a crisp . Cant cook cheese on toast so god knows how bad the rest of the food is . Wouldnt like to ask how much a full English would be probably have to cut my arm off to pay for it . Would avoid like the plague . Never seeing me in there again ....

Met with friends for afternoon tea. We all ordered different things but everyone was pleased with their food. I had jacket potato with cheese which came with salad and was very tasty. Might have preferred tea served in a pot. The staff were lovely and the price reasonable. Nice toilet too, clean with lovely smellies.

Took my two sons to Truly Scrumptious. We ordered two sausage on ciabatta with Lancashire cheese and red onion relish. And one panini with goats cheese and ham . It was a long time coming. The food was good quality but the salad was chopped into tiny pieces and was tasteless served with about 5 handcooked crisps. The sausage ciabatta was overpriced at 5 pounds fifty. on the whole the food was good but for the bill of 21 pounds something with 3 drinks for what we had was too expensive.

My husband and I regularly dine out for an English breakfast when we are off work at the weekend together and try different restaurants/cafes, hoping to find a breakfast as good as home. We found it here......... It was an accidental find as we were visiting the dry cleaners next door. We could see it was busy late Saturday morning, but luckily a family were just leaving their table. I would recommend you book a table as there was a constant flow of patrons while we were there. My husband and I both ordered the full breakfast (2 bacon, 2 sausage, black pudding, hash brown, mushrooms and beans, with a choice of 2 eggs and white or brown toast, tea or coffee) for £7.50 each. The style of the décor is very English tea shoppe, but personally, I quite like my drink from a cup and saucer, although there are mugs available. Our toast arrived a little before the breakfast, the bread was thick and came with butter sachets (maybe a couple more would be nice), the breakfast was very tasty, good quality ingredients, cooked just right (although my poached eggs weren't dippy for my tasty toast but hey ho, you can't win 'em all), my husband thoroughly enjoyed his, and cleared the plate for the first time in our quest to find the perfect breakfast. I think our quest is now over, we will be regulars here, hopefully trying other offerings on the menu from Homemade Granola with yoghurt to Eggs Benedict. The choice of Teas is nice to see, from traditional to fruit flavoured. Homemade cakes, and sandwiches with run of the mill fillings and also some a little more daring. We would recommend Truly Scrumptious for Breakfast, Lunch or afternoon tea, it is a cosy little eatery, with good service and very tasty food. Well done Truly Scrumptious, we will see you next time.

Have visited this café on many occasions and have always been treated respectfully and kindly by all of the staff. The food at lunch, afternoon tea and in between times has been a real pleasure to eat in a very convivial atmosphere. Cleanliness has been a priority and the scones are second to none. I have yet to visit a better cafe throughout the British Isles. Although some have equalled it, none have bettered it, and it is excellent value for money. Fortunately this establishment is local for me and I hope it remains open for many a year.

I urge you to disregard the previous review which has used the platform of trip advisor for an abhorrent self-indulgent rant. Those of us who use trip advisor in a serious manner to assist other users will not be helped by such a review. One star should signify exceptionally bad service, food; ambience etc. Whilst I appreciate establishments should run on time, 5/10 minute delays on a rare occasion will happen. If a delay of five minutes is too much to bear then by all means vote with your feet and leave but do not try to ruin a business and a potential experience for the rest of us. To review this restaurant – it is family run with the emphasis on food, service and ambience in equal measure. It is delightfully quirky, spotlessly clean and boasts a lovely team of staff. It is a community based venue with regular clientele. It takes drinks and food very seriously and has the biggest and best selection of fresh teas I have found anywhere. Food is freshly prepared and locally sourced. They open for breakfast and lunch; their success is visible every day as this is a very busy spot. The owners value their place in the community and among other things host a bake club here which brings local people together.

We booked a table for 12:30 and arrived at 12:25 to find all the tables occupied and a party waiting to be seated. When a table became free they seated the other party first saying they had also booked. At 12:35 there was no sign of us being seated imminently. There were two ladies occupying a table who had finished their drinks and were just chatting - we politely suggested that the staff ask if they would mind moving as the table was booked, but no we were expected to just carry on standing there (my Mum is 79 with mobility issues so standing around for 10 minutes isn't great for her). This establishment needs to either operate a proper reservation service or say that they don't offer one. In the end we had to give up and go elsewhere.

We usually go with the kids and grand kids and always get a very warm welcome. The staff are great and always make a fuss over the children which the kids love. One of Aspull's best kept secrets!!!No wonder Truly scrumptious is an award winner as the coffee and cakes are superb. The bacon is cooked to perfection and the bread so tasty.Hungry yet? We recommend a trip to Truly Scrumptious. Go on- you know it makes sense!

Food was hot & tasty and only waited 15 minutes. The smell of onions on the sizzling platter made me wished I’d ordered a steak but my fish and chips was lovely! Will certainly back to try a steak though. Staff were polite
