True North in Calderdale

New years eve and a full house, but this did not detract from the quality of the food or the service. Reasonable prices, friendly staff and a nice vibe. Very happy to recommend and will certainly return.

The food here is absolutely fantastic, whether it's breakfast, Sunday lunch or an evening meal. This place is highly recommended, and I have been several times and will be back again in the near future. It's located in the Dean Clough Mill, complex, free parking. You will not be disappointed.

Wow this place is a cut above from the industrial feel to the brick walls and arty decor. Very welcoming reception the tables are set out funky with the chairs pointing diagonally to the left. The menu had some great choices i had the aranchni starter best i have had and a goats cheese bom bom nain which was delicious we both had the sticky toffee pudding which was far from stodgy tasted light and the icecream complimented it perfectly. On an added note the wine glasses are classy i need these if can find out where to buy them ? 😂

The food was excellent and the staff were welcoming and helpful. One even went out into the snowy night to find our missing guest who had missed the entrance. A memorable meal for all the right reasons. One of our party, on finishing the Boef a la Bourginon was "Wow!"

My wife and I have been visiting True North in Halifax for a number of years for numerous reasons: a quiet meal together, meeting friends, family get togethers and for their sumptuous Sunday Lunches. It was, therefore, an obvious choice for a Sunday Lunch together with our Children and Grandchildren to celebrate my wife's birthday. Service from Sam and the team was, as always, first class, and it was an extra special treat for the family to be handed on arrival special menus headed up " Diana's Birthday" at True North. We all felt that we were being treated as VIP's for the day. 10 magnificent Sunday lunches were ordered, delivered promptly and quickly eaten. Every plate was delicious, plentiful and the Grandchildren ( 8,8,6 and 5) were all impressed by the giant Yorkshire Puddings which are the size of their heads!! ( and extra pot of gravy each without asking is always a nice touch). We all enjoyed beautifully presented deserts before saying goodbye and taking a tour of the Crossley Gallery to walk off our lunch. A perfect celebration lunch and we cannot wait for an excuse to return for our next meal. Thanks to the Chef, the kitchen team and all the guys front of house. Keep it up.

Why haven't we visited before... Great service, and an absolutely lush Sunday lunch.

My husband and I visited for the first time today having recently moved from Leeds to Halifax. We were hoping to find a new favourite Sunday roast spot, and we certainly have! We both opted for the roast pork belly and agreed it was one of the best roast dinners we've ever had at a restaurant: perfectly cooked pork belly, generous portion size and delicious sides- we both loved the cauliflower cheese. Service was attentive without being too much, and the restaurant's setting in the historic Dean Clough was the cherry on top! We're already planning our next visit, thank you True North :)

Superb breakfast/brunch with a good choice of food. Beautifully cooked and high quality ingredients. Great coffee too - best flat white I’ve had in ages so I had 2! The service was absolutely spot on, really friendly but ultra professional. Well priced. We have agreed to come back for dinner as we haven’t been in the evening because we live 30 mins away but Uber will help us with that one. Excellent place.

Good restaurant in Dean Clough mill complex. We called in with no appointment, and there was no problem getting a table. It was a quiet early afternoon. The staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive. The food we chose was tasty and all prepared on site; there was one slight issue with one of our dishes and the staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating in resolving the problem, this was appreciated but not expected from us. True North is definitely worth a visit. It's a quality restaurant serving good quality food; this is our second visit and won't be our last.

Great cooked breakfast. Reasonable price. Really good service. No pressure to order quickly and no pressure to or depart the table. Really nice surroundings too. Food was hot and well presented.

Paulicarus fancied a proper Sunday roast dinner so booked a table here. Friends had been before. Sat in what apparently had once been Europe's largest carpet factory. Certainly a huge building. A starter and main for £25. Two lamb and two beef. Good veg selection. We had starters of one wings, one paté and two chose asparagus and sea bass. All excellent. Good service and good wine. No real ale so Paulicarus had a £6.00 pint of lager. Very attentive service.

10/10 cannot fault, every dish was great. Service was impeccable. Starter had the smoked salmon and prawn mousse, absolutely divine and well paired with crostini Main had spiced duck breast, great portion size. Got a side of rosemary chips and really wasn't needed as the main portion size is sufficient without a side. Excited to visit again when the menu next changes

Another visit and again really nice food. Recommend the Fillet Steak really nice, with crushed new potatoes and pepper sauce. Staff really attentive.

Disappointing! Very average. Won't be reattending this place . Had the beef Sunday lunch. Worst roast potatoes I've ever had. Think they were frozen Iceland ones! Completely tasteless and rock hard.

Fantastic meal and experience from start to finish. The service (Sam) was attentive, professional and friendly. Excellent duck dish and the sticky toffee pudding is perfection. Great playlist too! Bravo. We will be back!

The food was of a poor standard. The menu looked good but the execution was weak - overall would not go back. Good cocktails though.

We had a delicious birthday dinner here for my husband's birthday. I had the smoked salmon and prawn mousse followed by the toasted goats cheese and warm peach salad. Gorgeous. The double chocolate brownie was perfect, slightly warm with a thin crunchy crust and gooey middle. My husband's meal was just as good, and he chose completely different items from the menu. The wait staff were polite and friendly, and although they didn't hover, it was easy to catch their eye when necessary. The only minus for the evening was the small choice of non alcoholic beer. Peroni 0 is not a favourite and there are so many good ones out there. A three course meal for one, including coffee, is around £40. Add more if you want drinks and fillet steak!

Excellent meal at true north for 2. Starters of pork belly, and another of goats cheese Bon Bon’s, both superb. Then followed by a beautiful lamb dish and one of the best steaks we’ve had in years. Brilliant staff. Highly recommend.

Excellent place for food staff very helpful

The menu here is just posh word's for classic food. Just say what it is. But food that is absolutely done to perfection. We have been here three time's now and every time was a delight. Great service. Great place. The only negative thing I have to say and it's not in a bad way. The price was a bit high for a Yorkshire man. But I'm still coming again.

Discovered True North driving past it & saw the pics on their billboard which looked fab. So popped in today to try out their Sunday Roast & it was fantastic!! I had the Korean pork belly to start which was absolutely delicious & the perfect amount of spice. Followed that up with the lamb rump Sunday roast. Soooo good! Even the mint sauce was made fresh & they bring extra gravy on the side without you having to ask for any. It is now my new fav spot for a roast in Halifax!!!

Fundamentally good food , but too big portions which can easily put you off desert. Basic salad accompaniments which you would not expect from a restaurant of this price, and a floor to ceiling glass wall that gives the view of the corridor and some horrific commercical lighting. Service was excellent , althiugh they need to issue clean aprons to serve customers.

This restaurant is a must visit if you are in Halifax, the food & service was impeccable. There was 4 of us had 3 courses and no one could fault any of the food it was lovely, everyone especially seemed to like the Sticky Toffee Pudding. All the staff are very friendly and couldn't do more for you. Highly recommend.

Second visit. In the area and chanced that they could fit us in. We were in luck because it soon filled up. Outstanding Sunday roast and unbelievable value. 30 quid for 3 courses and well worth it. Salmon and smoked cheese mille-fueille starter is unreal. The Mrs had the veggie mushroom Wellington and it was packed with flavour. Will definitely be returning.

This was our first visit to True North and I hope there will be more. We were made to feel welcome by Samuel as front of house. The main dish portions are definitely designed for hungry customers . When the freshly cooked food arrived it looked good on the plate and more importantly it was hot and perfectly seasoned. The service was friendly but not intrusive. In terms of price I would say this represents great value for money

Absolutely stunningly delicious food. Great atmosphere and fantastic service. Six friends booked for Sunday Lunch, we all enjoyed different starters, the Lamb rump and Sirlion beef were the tastiest, perfectly balanced plates. And desserts and cheese board were equally impressive. The Malbec wine went down well and the service we received was attentive but not intrusive. Cannot wait to return to this gem of a restaurant.

We arrived early for drinks and received a warm welcome from Sam whose service was excellent throughout the evening. The feta, spinach and dill spring roll starter was fantastic and I had the broccoli with blue cheese main which was one of the best vegetarian dishes I’ve ever had. My only niggle was that we were a little cold at times, sitting close to the door. But it didn’t spoil the excellent food and service. The bill was c£100 for two. It would easily have been £150 in London - outstanding value.

Lovely experience, staff were extremely attentive, friendly and welcoming. Lovely atmosphere. Food first class. This restaurant shows that it is possible to have extremely good, well presented food whilst still managing to arrive at the table piping hot. I wish other restaurants including michelin star restaurants could manage it too.

Booked last minute for a Valentines meal - never been to True North before so was pleasantly surprised. Dean Clough Mills has been very nicely done up and True North has a lovely wood decor with kitchen area where you can see chefs preparing the food (I always like that - shows everything is fresh and cooked there and then i.e. not warmed up!). The four course and cocktails set menu wasn't the cheapest I have to admit but once we'd experienced the food we knew it was worth it. Service was excellent – very attentive and understanding of our needs (we didn't want the cocktails or pudding). I would definitely go back as there were some very nice dishes on the menu I would love to try. Also would be nice to experience more of the Mills and what they have to offer too.

First time here, hopefully not my last. Went for Sunday roast, genuinely one of the nicest I've had in years. Well cooked meat, delicious veggies and Yorkshire puds the size of my head! We had the vegan Sunday dinner but it arrived luke warm and we were told we couldn’t have the Yorkshire puds or cauliflower cheese with it but were still charged the fixed price- unfair. The starter, pear and beetroot salad was basic and tasteless. The bill included a £9.00 charge for wine we hadn’t had so we told one guy who said he’d remove it but the second waiter who came didn’t know and was going to charge us for it. Our pie was good but veggies = one carrot, two potatoes, four or five sprouts and some hard cauliflower. Not worth the price.
