Ordered to collect. Still took ages for food. Shop empty. 8pm asked to eat in. No we're closing! Sign on door says 10pm. Jerk chicken dry. Nearly choked on it. Steamed veg blant. Rice n pea standard. Sauce blant. Carrot juice terrible. Never again.

Headed up from London to see my lad and rather than eat up town he took me to this place for some delicious ackee & saltfish with a beetroot n ginger drink, food done in fine style 😛❤️🙏

The best value Caribbean place I know in Birmingham. You get a lot for your buck and it tastes nice!

Got the half jerk chicken and rice,i opened the box to see 2 runny tubs of sauce with sweet corn and other bits in it,the chicken is very dry,they dont even do a quality jerk chicken sauce without bits in it,i paid near enough 20 quid for half a chicken with a hair in it lmfao i feel so stupid but never again,avoid else you will be disappointed,ive had better from a place that dont even specailise in carribean food.

A lovely clean establishment. Friendly service. A wide choice of food. I opted for the Oxtail meal, the Pepper steak meal and ackee n salt fish . It was absolutely delicious!! Tru Spice fe sure!! 10/10…will definitely be returning next week! Highly recommend 🌟

Absolutely nothing to complain about here regarding food. Service was good too which makes a change to my locals. By a fluke I wanted to see what was nearby and I’m glad I did. Food was delicious, the nicest festivals I have had in a long time, jerk was perfect, rice n peas I could eat on its own. Should've asked for my coleslaw separate but I ate it all the same. Can’t even take a pic now as it’s already half eaten but so yummy, thank you for being open on a Sunday 😂🥰

We asked what have you got that's ready, we asked twice what have you got thats ready, they told us that it was ready took the payment for the curry goat an rice so that's for 2 portions the other portion was jerk chicken with hard food they said its ready waited 35 mins an then they put the coleslaw in the same container as the food very poor...I also met other people who had pre-orderd an had to still wait x amount of time when they arrived to pick up the food...i would not recommend this place to anybody waist of money which people don't have, the goat was tough,the people we met who were waiting for their food were lovely...you need to make sure your food is ready even if you cook small portions at a time but food need to be ready 🌮🥣🍗🍼☹️

I've been to this place 4 times. All times ordering the honey prawns. All 4 times, the prawns have been overcooked. Tremendously. I thought it could be because I take them away. But on my last occasion, I sat in. And still very overcooked. Tough. And the rice was old. I entered at 12 noon, when it opens and got old rice and overcooked prawns. Fam and friends have had other things, all come with their own mistake. Sad, because the flavours are there. The chef needs to get the stop watch out!

I ordered for takeaway, waited 45 to collect, was told rin out of rice? had fries instead, when picking it up took another 10 mins, delivery drivers complaining about their wait too. I had jerk chicken, fries and one dumpling, was more expensive than the price over the phone. Chicken was dry! cut so bones were sharp sticking out the meat, fries, soggy and was cold, wont be going back!

I regularly order here and the food is nice but i think they need to sort there delivery drivers out because waiting 3hours for food is really unacceptable, and they didnt even call me to update me about my food i had to call! I think there should be some sort of discount for making customers wait so long for food theyve ordered

My gf and i ordered brown stew chicken with hard food and steam veg which they left out the steam veg and 5 jerk wings with rice and peas+steam veg and recieved no rice and peas and veg for that too. So effectively I spent £9.15 for just 5 dry wings. We called the place and the lady try to lie and say the wings came with no side even though it was advertised as required. I also order festivals which cost £3.45 and only received 2 and in most places its 2 festivals for £1. This place is not only false advertising and taking peoples money. The food is not authentic carribean food,the wings were dry, brown stew chicken tasted bbqy and the jerk sauce tasted nothing like jerk with sweet corn and other stuff that not suppose be in jerk. Overall a horrible experience and we wasted £26.48. IF YOU LOOKING FOR GOOD CARRIBEAN AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE A PLAGUE.

Ordered jerk chicken as a takeaway, both rice and chicken was at least couple of days old. There was no flavour, chicken was dry and hard, not fit for human consumption. My first and last time ordering food from here.

Worth the walk ! I stay in the city quite regularly, seems all the Caribbean takeaways are closed now. Sick of eating junk I made the walk (about a mile). So glad I did, what a treat to open this when I got back to the digs. Nice place too, would eat in, no problem. See you again, probably tomorrow 😍

Callled they up to ask them have they got any jerk chicken took 5 mins for them to come back customer service was terrible waiting over 20 minutes for jerk chicken staff are rude and when I got home the chicken was dry everything was dry the Swiss that came with it was jus disgusting too sour didn’t enjoy it one bit and don’t recommend coming here again doesn’t taste like jerk chicken

Ordered for the first time today wasn't sure about something on the menu so called and got nothing but lovely helpful customer service. The food arrived early and was amazing. The portions were so much bigger than any other place I've ordered from before. I've never left a review on anything before but this deserved 5+ stars all round. Perfect customer service n even more perfect delicious food. 10/10

The food was well below average, and prices were high for the amount of food you get. The staff were rude, and the wait was long.

Extremely disappointed with the service I got on Saturday. I ordered a jerk chicken dinner that had no gravy on it and no juice poured on the chicken and the chicken was completely dry. It came with two cold pots of sweet chilli sauce to pour on the food, there isn’t a Jamaican food place in the country that would give you cold sweet chilli sauce with a jerk chicken dinner, they always ask you what gravy you want on it and the staff initially wouldn’t give me any gravy to pour on it, only when I said I’d rather eat it dry than pour cold sweet chill sauce on it did they give me some gravy. Whenever I come to Birmingham from Manchester Tru Spice was my place to go but after Saturday I’ll never step foot in that place again.

It seems all good things come to an end. Shame really Started great and then just went downhill from there Now; don’t get me wrong the male chefs and sous chefs are fantastic!!! They cater their best to your palate - everytime I asked for more spice; I got it. One of the women on the other had ( and it pains me to say this) need work. As in organisation; remembering things such as a sky juice drink for example.she stood there looking at me like I was stupid because she had given me my food and then I’m there waiting for a a drink she forgot I order literal 2 mins before the food was ready. Jesus H Christ- pardon my French. But wow. Keep up the good work, gentleman! Food is banging!

I was gobsmacked, opened at 12, but no breakfast menu and you can't do any fish meals, until your chef comes! Absolute joke. Had to hunt for the Saltfish amongst the copious amount of oil, ackee, onions and peppers. There was no taste, salt or seasoning. Overpriced for the quality of food and charging almost double for your can drinks is just greedy. Staff moving between the restaurant and shop next door is unprofessional. No idea about customer service AT ALL.

Jerk chicken was bland and some bits were quite hard. - my cat enjoyed it after we decided we couldn’t eat it lol. The fried dumplin was also bland but light and fluffy. Jamaican food made for British people I think. Not authentic or flavourful. If you’re actually caribbean you won’t enjoy! Sorry

A total honest review. A few years ago the food was nice and service was good BUT now. The service is not good at all 3 times my uber order was wrong. The amount you get for the price paid is not worth it at all. Its such a shame to see a place once packed out now empty. I hope they sort it out because the food is still nice.

rude staff serving had dirty nails food was disgusting dry and bland but the worse part was not just 1 but 2 hairs in the mutton curry 🤮 this was 25-3-2023 weights & measures, health & safety have both been i formed and will be investigating!!!

They’re Uber eats order section is deceiving, it tricks you into thinking you’ll get sides with some options , then the restaurant calls you to to Cancel and still takes your money, highly would not recommend ever, the curry is not nice. The customer service also seems untrained.

These guys are a bunch of scammers and what I’m about to explain has been done to several others. They purposely don’t update their menu so once you order and it’s not available, they tell Uber eats that you cancelled your order and you don’t get food or your money back. Once you call them, they’ll address you in a rude way and cut the phone on you.

Please have some respect for you customers! I've been coming here for years and today as I was in a hurry I brought in my little Brompton sized bike to save locking it outside. I was shouted at like some little kid! Come on people - you've just lost a customer right there.

Tru Spice where do I start... The food is great.. my favourite is Red Kidney bean soup, Tru Spice has one of the best recipes. I love the natural juice combo.. these are excellent if you're looking to loose weight 😊 Overall the portions are a fair size.. there is evidence of active cleanliness in the kitchen and customer areas which is a must for me. Customer service is excellent and staff are extremely welcoming, great value for money. I would definitely recommend this store.

Ordered food from tru spice for collection. Basically got bare rice and the scraps for jerk chicken the portion of jerk chicken is usually bigger than this so people don’t order anytime close to the closing time dead

USE TO LOVE GOING HERE until they put the price up nearly double but the food standards have FALLEN HUGLEY like how does that even work how are you putting prices up yet food quality shoots down ?? & yet your meant to be about the community yes prices have gone up a little £1/£2 but these people took FULL advantages and your taking money of the people who don’t really have as much the vibe used to be amazing now it stinks of GREED

Visited yesterday just to buy drinks. The customer service was friendly and polite from both the lady serving in the tills, to the owner who later spoke to us outside. Although we never ate any dinner I must saynthe place appeared clean and appealing to the eye. This goes for both the restaurant and the combined grocery store they also own next door. The owner/managers approach alone makes us sure to come (if in the area) back in the future . He was lovely!

The food quality is great but the overall taste is extremely bland it’s disappointing that the restaurant doesn’t offer spice options to choose from like Pepes for example literally the only downfall it’s a shame

I actually used to bang Tru Spice but its switched up. Paid nearly £10 for a jerk chicken, regular was some children sizes. They said i have to pay for gravy then later told me not to worrry about it this time. So i was meant to eat this meal dry 😳😳 they gave me some cold jerk type relish. No carrots in the coleslaw. Its actually a bump and wouldnt come back when i get a proper dinner for £8 with nuff meat. They packed it with so much rice (an old school trick)

Place looks nice and clean. Lady who served me was polite, nice takeaway packaging . Reason for 3 star is because I waited long for food and curry goat didn’t have gravy. Coleslaw needs more carrot for flavour and colour. Overall food tasted nice 8/10.

Fire food, mutton curry was ace

Honestly speaking the foods hood but it’s not worth the hassle trying to get it, there’s a lot of other places just as good if not better who will deliver happily and at a reasonable time, unlike here which will take upwards of 50 minutes and blame the driver delivering it.

The food from this restaurant is absolutely beautiful. I ordered stew peas soup and a prawn meal. My mother loved her prawns and she's nearly 90 yrs and doesn't eat out, she said " dem can surly cook man".. thank you and see real soon compliments to the chef. And the restaurant is absolutely stunning well done to the owner😊

Wow this place is a joke!!! I don’t normally leave reviews at all but for these guys I had to.. I ordered 2 regular jerk and rice, portion of dumplings, and coleslaw.. Bill come up to £20 on uber eats.. When the delivery arrived I ended up getting some inedible burnt chicken chopped into tiny pieces without any sides and 2 dumplings!! Felt like I got robbed because when I tried to call them back it kept coming as user busy for hour after.. Never again for me, I would advise you guys eat anywhere else except for here!!!

The jerk chicken was dry. The jerk sauce was very thin/watered down on this occasion too which took away the flavour. With the amount of chicken/rice you get with large meals, the sauce isn’t enough. Maybe need a separate gravy. New decor is nice though, now to work on the main event (the food).

Fantastic delicious food and the regular portion was more than enough - our first time of eating Caribbean food. We had the curried mutton and jerk chicken. Highly recommend.

Good Mutton Curry and fish, (Can't say anything about the jerk chicken though as it is batch made and had sold out by the time I and my family reached. What we ate though was delicious.

I ordered a lamb dinner a Salt fish and Akee and a Mutton dinner. I was a very disappointed with the lamb dinner as it was burned and in edible had to discard The salt fish was bland the Mutton dinner was only fair. It's a shame the quality of the food is not in keeping with the improvement of the environment. Profit over quality. 👎

I ordered food from there yesterday the food was amazing. I’ve ordered from them loads of times I’ve always been pleased with their phenomenal service and their kindness. This is the only place I’ve ordered from in Birmingham that is Caribbean for a long time, super proud of their success & super excited to try them out once they have seating to enjoy the food in the kitchen. They also have their Chef on show (who I personally know) and the health and safety in there is also fantastic. Their menu has a great variety as well their Honey Prawns are WOW speechless I can’t even get into how great they are plus they always get sold out so that should tell you. I can go on about how great this business is. Friendly staff, clean environment and very welcoming x

Food arrived in the delivery bag spilt every wear in the bag, due to the food not being wrapped because restaurant wants to save cling film, this is not the 1st time this has happened. Ive been going to try spice for about 2 years now, although their customer service is extremely poor, I still went because the food was nice, I actually looked up how much I've spent there and I've spent around £350 there throughout the years. Recently they have opened up after a refurbishment, I was excited to go and even convince others to go and support them, we made our order over the phone because they always take long to make your order in the shop... The girl on the phone mixed up the orders when we got there. There prices have gone up, understandable when the food is at the right standards, which it isnt! (23/04/21)I ordered a large mixed dinner that came up to £15 I had got mushy prawns and 3 pieces of oxtail that was hard and I could even bite it. I called back to tell them about my complaint and the girl on the phone just kept saying that the manager is busy. I called 3 times allowing the manager Chantell to respond to this complaint. She could care less about her regular customers. Just to make this clear I, my family & friends will never be returning back here to support this business every again. The food is now as bad as the Customer service! Extremely disappointed and she still hasn't responded to me although she has my number. I thought customers complaint should be dealt with immediately. I think they all need training again, especially the management, hopefully they realize it sooner before they lose more customers.

Really disappointed in the restaurants portion control.... Was told they are not serving fried chicken by itself and only as a meal, but they can do the chicken "by itself as a meal but with more chicken instead of rice" for the meal price of £7.50. I got home and had an equivalent of a drumstick and thigh in my box. Not impressed at all.

I was very disappointed with the service I received. I have been there on numerous occasions and place large orders and on 2 occasions the order was wrong leaving us with no drinks and a dinner short. Having to return to the shop with no apology. This is not how you treat customers spend £70 +. I don’t think I would return there again. I love to support our own, but they need to give us back good service. 😳😳🙏🏽

I couldn't wait to buy mutton soup from this restaurant but I was so disappointed, the soup tasted horrible, a large size just had 1 piece of meat, its was oily. Its was just yukki. When I got to work I checked with my Caribbean friend to see if she has bought soup from this restaurant before, she said yes and it was horrible, it wasn't even soup :(

Very Nice food my Second time coming here all the way from Wolverhampton ..was abit disappointed as when I left I realised I was overcharged and paid more than what lady on phone told me dinners cost .

Although the food is great, the speed is not. As a take away would it not be best to keep so much of the main dishes on a constant hot plate which would make service alot quicker. Just a thought.

My picture is one with the huge feast. I had oxtail stew, curry goat, rice and peas, jerk sauce, coleslaw, fried dumplings, and fried plantain. I travel over UK and try many Carribean restaurants/takeaways this is on par with the very best. Amazing authentic carribean food to die for and dont get me started on the Jamaican Kola Champagne 🍾😂 tastiest pop EVER!!!! To top it all off the staff are very friendly and welcoming. I will be back every time i come Birmingham 100%
