This welcoming space was across the street from our hotel. Although service was on the slower side, it was made to order and very good. The restaurant was light and clean and a perfect place for a leisurely breakfast.

I have been to this coffee shop a couple of times and always found it very good but today I popped in with my two year old granddaughter. The help and the consideration from the waiter was absolutely fantastic from helping me park the push chair, being tolerant of a small child’s messy eating to offering me help to get back up the steps. The customer service was really impressive and the coffee and snacks were pretty good too. I appreciate that sometimes small child can be a bit disruptive but I never felt as if we were a nuisance. Thank you very much.

Cute cafe, great coffee and pastries, surprising wide range of food offerings. Great for a coffee break after a brisk walk around the old city.

Lovely little coffee shop, and being situated in York Place, it is perfect for a quality breakfast for people staying in the Premier Inn opposite. It’s clean and friendly and is beautifully decorated with arts and crafts also for sale. The food is fresh and made to order. Will certainly be back!

Had visited a few times since this cafe opened and always enjoyed the fresh food at reasonable prices for the city centre location. Today's visit was sadly disappointing. I had a scone which was not the freshest and turned to dry crumbs when I attempted to spread the butter on it. So disappointing :-( Hopefully just s blip, but I think I'll be going elsewhere when I fancy a scone in future.

Stayed a couple of nights across the road and had a coffee and filled roll as I was leaving. It looked like a small coffee shop I was very surprised with the seating below ground level. Lovely coffee from a large list of hot and cold drinks, the roll was really tasty as was the sausage filling. This was all topped off by the friendly warm welcome from the two people who were in the shop.

Et fint sted for god kaffe og litt frokost. Lå ganske nært der vi bodde, så det ble et naturlig sted å innom. God frokost og forskjellig å velge mellom i et behagelig lokale. Trivelige ansatte som fiksa det meste får oss.

What a terrible spot. I came with 4 friends, and it took them 60 minutes to get 3/5 sandwiches to us. They then approached us saying that one of the sandwiches we had ordered was unavailable as they didn’t have all of the ingredients - told us to choose something else off the menu. Upon reordering, the poor waitress came back to tell us that the manager has said we were not allowed to order that sandwich because it was £3 dearer than the one originally ordered…. after having waited for an hour and a half at this point. What a waste of time and what a terrible management style. The sandwiches were, obviously, absolutely NOT worth the wait.

For something so overpriced (£8.80 for a cappuccino and a small scone) it was extremely basic. The scone was dry, possibly old, and served without butter, a hard pebble on a plate. Cappuccino arrived 10 minutes after the scone. Service was minimal and indifferent at best. Not somewhere I will go again.

Truly fantastic coffee bar. Edinburgh can be really busy and full of bland chains. This little cafe is brilliant, just a minute or twos walk from St Andrews Square. Friendly service, great coffee, tea and food. Perfect for our lunch. I had the Pastrami and Cheese Panini, freshly made, alongside a great Flat White.

Perfect Sunday morning breakfast - the coffee was excellent and I had the eggs Benedict which was delicious with lovely runny eggs. We took away some pastries for the train journey home. Right next door to the hotel it has fresh modern decor.

Afternoon Tea: rather disappointing as couldn’t serve a beef sandwich on our afternoon tea without horseradish! Brioche bun for prawn Marie Rose, a rather stingy filling. Poor cake but excellent scones and sausage rolls. Only allowed two cups of tea which I thought was mean at £24.

We mourn the day our favourite Edinburgh restaurant The Dogs closed. So we thought we'd check out proprietor David Ramsden's new project - a wee wine bar on Bread Street. Dogs, ponies... if you're an animal lover, you're in good company. But it's David's impeccable taste and dogged (!) commitment to quality that earned our loyalty years ago and keeps us coming back for more culinary adventures. The Fat Pony offers a range of truly hand-picked (and handmade) wines, meats and cheeses from around the world. Hand-picked but without the snobbery. There's a lot of choice, so don't be shy to ask for recommendations. The reply may be deadpan, but that's just theatrical bluffing, because this man always gets it right when I challenge him to surprise me! A stylish yet relaxed space, with good music playing in the background. A carafe of wine and a few tapas make for the perfect quick pre-theatre dinner - being just around the corner from the Lyceum, Usher Hall and Traverse. I was a bit embarrassed to ask for coffee after the beautiful Primativo, but David was ready with yet another surprise: great coffee served in the most divine Wedgwood cups! PS: Dogs welcome! PPS: Beautiful toilets!
