Trinity Restaurant in Cambridge

I've visited this restaurant a few times in the past but unfortunately have stopped since one of our party got food poisoning - we suspect from the oysters - after eating here. We e-mailed the restaurant about this incident as a precaution but received no reply or acknowledgment. A shame since the food and ambience has otherwise been pleasant.

We had an absolutely wonderful Christmas Eve dinner at Trinity. The food was outstanding, as was the service. Would recommend throughly! Big shoutout out to Johnny and Chef Kareem. What a talent! The focaccia oils, the market fish and stream bass - all fantastic. And the Eton Mess! We’ll certainly be back.

We are recovering from a fabulous evening. Despite arriving a little late and a little tipsy we were wonderfully looked after. The service was impeccable and the standout dishes were the oysters, the banana bread pudding, the wild mushroom lasagne and the pork belly...in fact everything really!

I recently visited this restaurant and I will say its definately within the top 4 overall that I've visited in Cambridge. The food is right up there with the best and is in my opinion really high quality because of its full flavour. The staff were also really friendly and polite. I would say that compared to other restaurants in Cambridge the atmosphere isn't amazing or memorable, its just about okay (my opinion though). Overall though its a solid restaurant!

Best meal I've had in many a year. The menu is by no means extensive but every dish was unbelievably good. The fish was amazing, the beetroot tamales were too. Can't fault it. Yes it was expensive, but it was worth every penny.

Fantastic experience whilst sitting outside, enjoying fantastic wine & olives. Service has been extremely accommodating. Enjoyed food later in the afternoon & cannot recommend enough. Fantastic staff who go over and above to ensure you have a wonderful experience. Dining alone.

Lovely meal as usual. Highly recommend the mushroom lasagna. Really enjoyed the banana bread dessert. A bit pricey but ambience is perfect. Perfect place for a business dinner, date, or just hanging out as friends!!!

A splendid visit. It has a proper English feel about it.

On arriving at the restaurant there was a notice outside saying, chef required, not a good look but became apparent when the food arrived. Fish snitzel for starters was basically breaded fish. Main course the pasta was pasta in a sauce not very exciting despite to posh name. Other main course was pork belly, don’t think this was freshly prepared. The dessert was disappointing affrogato, two spoons of ice cream with coffee and a shop bought shortbread to accompany. Yes this restaurant does need a chef the menu was extremely limited and overpriced. To top it all 13% service charge was added.

Overrated. Food okay, not amazing. Small portions. Unfriendly staff and stuffy atmosphere. There are Michelin star restaurants in Cambridge that are much more welcoming.

Had a delicious lunch at Trinity, the service was great and the food even better. Highly recommend the Market Fish & Pork Belly both tasted amazing.

It's a small place so the seating can feel a bit small and cramped, but the food is by far some of the best in Cambridge, the staff genuinely go above and beyond to make sure you've had a good experience, definitely worth booking as it's often full up but overall it's definitely worth a try and when I went with my friend they'd brought out the sides only a minute or two late, so they were taken off the bill which is just amazing.

This was one of the best meals I've ever had. There isn't a lot of choice (and only one veggie main), but it didn't matter, because everything is just so good. Even simple things like onions tasted better than I'd have thought possible, a real revelations, and together the combinations of flavours are just amazing. Efficient, intelligent service, and great arrangement of tables for privacy in a small-ish space (we were downstairs).

Sensational lunch. The service was amazing... really went over and above for my mum to make her comfortable and happy. Food was amazing - make sure you book, I can see why it's so popular!!

A wonderful lunch on Friday. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Food was excellent - delicious flavours and textures. From the in house made focaccia with delicious oils and a vinegar to dip into brought to the table as we looked at the menu, to the mains which were all so well executed. We'll be back.

The food was decent but the portions were small and we found the staff to be slightly pushy (kept asking whether we wanted alcohol when we already said no several times)

We visited the restaurant on a Saturday evening and ate from the A la Carte menu. The food and service were absolutely top notch and we will definitely book again when next in Cambridge.

Absolutely fantastic experience, the food was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were attentive and friendly.

Simply amazing. Had dinner with partner and her family, and everyone was so happy with the food. We had bass, Cod, gnocchi and chicken and all of them were excellent. Will go again if we are in cambrisge again.

The food was good but I got charged more for the wine I have ordered. I got two glasses of Tempranillo that was 7.50 and they charged me 9:25 for each. Also they charged me a 10% “optional service charge,” which was obviously not optional. I didn’t want to make a scene because I was on a date but it definitely ruined my experience in this otherwise fine restaurant.

[2023-05-04, ~£35] Good food and great service. Reasonably priced. The dressed and raw oysters were nice and sweet, but a bit lacking in size I feel. The baked oyster in spicy Korean pepper sauce was also good. Cured stone bass, curry compote, herb cracker - 9/10 lovely texture and flavours. soft yet firm chew. spicy, rich in coriander, delicious. Mushroom tabbouleh - 7/10, nice. Roasted Norfolk chicken leg, mash, offal jus - 7/10, perfectly seasoned chicken but the jus was a bit oversalted. holding back on the salt a tad would have been perfect Seafood chowder, smoked mackerel pesto - 8/10, good flavours and very generous with the fish. full of salmon, mackerel, clams. good main. Fruit crumble, vanilla ice cream - 9/10, fantastic crumble, piping hot and crispy with berry filling, nice vanilla ice cream to pair with

Great all round. Service friendly, relaxed and spot on, with a chef who is right on his game, in a lovely environment. What more could you want?!

Good food, great mix of flavours. We had two courses from the Fixed pris lunch menu so the bill was not too eye watering. Lovely place to have a relaxing chat over food with friends.

As someone who usually doesn’t like the concept of a stew, I’m really impressed! The food is flavourful and exciting! Will come back!

Really lovely restaurant with excellent staff. We started with the oysters, which were lovely. We had a second starter, which was trout with a coconut cake and bisque. It was seriously divine, if a little unusual. For mains we hasld the mackerel, which had the bisque again and a little soupy. The stone baked bass was beautiful. Nice wine selection to go with the meal. The restaurant also had a lovely ambiance.

Absolutely divine! The pre-fixe menu offers outstanding quality and maximum enjoyment. Must haves include focaccia with trio of infused oils, cured stone bass and the lightest banana sponge accompanied by a smidgen of halva. The latter being even better than my grandma's. Well done!

Had a fantastic meal there on Friday lunchtime. With friends and a bit of business. Had the shin of beef was pukka. Champagne and wines were exceptional. You need to go!

After reading the reviews and setting expectations accordingly, we had high hopes for this restaurant. Unfortunately we got sat in the basement, so the ambience and view was lacking, however we were there to eat and enjoy each other's company. Oysters were off the menu...ok, bit of a shame but never mind. Ordered drinks, all good. Ordered our food - the starter I was initially going to order, also off the menu, so decided to have the "special" shoulder of pork, meaning that I would also change my main from Pork Belly to the other "special" Jamaican Fish Run Down...which I misheard as Rendang...my mistake, but it was described as fish in coconut milk, with clams and spices, etc. Ok, so considering the small limited menu, having items off menu is pretty poor. Now, table booked for 8pm, we'd ordered all our drinks and food easily before 8.30pm, starter arrived about 8.40pm, fairly tasty, if not a little bit fatty. Onto our mains, but where were they. A table that arrived after us, had both their starters and mains before our mains arrived...a 20min wait is perfectly acceptable, by nearly 9.30pm our mains arrived - a good 40min wait between starter and main. My wife had chosen not to have a starter so was ravenous by then and we did have to complain and ask where they were - not sure what had happened, I mean, there is relaxed dining and then there is pushing it a little. For such a small menu I was embarrassed for them - and it didn't help that a larger table was enjoying better service. But were the mains worth it? So, wife had the beef shin and a side of mash, I had the "special" without a side and wasn't offered a suitable side either. My wife enjoyed her main, no issue there - worth the price tag? Debatable. My main was very plain and uninspiring, even when they confirmed it wasn't a rendang...my wife tried it as well, and we both agreed that it essentially tasted like a jar of soupe de poissons (fish soup) with some bits of white fish in it...there was no spice, no taste of coconut, just a salty, fishy soup. Definitely not worth £29.50, and with no side of rice or anything to go with it I was very disappointed. I let the staff know when they asked if everything was ok. My wife and I decided that after the menu changes, overly long wait for our mains and disappointing fish soup that we'd get the bill and go. They were kind enough to knock off the price of the starter. All in all, 2 glasses champagne, bottle of wine, 2 mains...just shy of £150. We won't be going back, quality simply isn't worth the price tag and even with a small limited menu the service was too slow with other tables being served out of order. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Perhaps the focaccia on the menu for over £6 should be given offered for free at the start of the meal if they know the service is slow - fairly standard in a lot of upmarket restaurants for bread to be included. Also, if there is a special such as a Jamaican Rundown that ideally should have it's own side e.g. plantain, rice or crusty bread, then make sure that this is available - mash didn't really go with a soup.

Food was very well cooked and presented. We were sat downstairs in the basement, which is a bit so and so. Selection a bit limited in the menu, nice service.

Excellent service !! Staff are friendly and informative. I Had cured trout as starter. It was so refreshing with the green sauce. Staff told me that the sauce was made of fresh herbs. Yum! Main course was pork belly, very crunch skin yet soft and juicy pork. How did the chef do it? Absolutely amazing! Can’t wait to go again.

Chef 👨‍🍳 Roberts, what a star bringing the tastes of Antigua 🇦🇬 to Cambridge. We all (3) picked fish dishes that were amazing. The menu is unique and unusual, proving really high quality fine dinning dishes. This is our 2nd visit while travelling, what a find. The whole experience was excellent, manager and staff were very friendly and informative and not forgetting a shout again for Chef Roberts, who took some time to have a friendly chat about the Caribbean. I just wish the restaurant was closer to home and we could visit more often.

Good quality food. Wish there was more vegetarian choices and bigger portions. Also not to use coconut in the menu during winter.

Lovely wee place on Trinity St that seems to have retained a deserve to serve good quality food at affordable prices and not sell out as a tourist trap (not that we're looking at you Fitzbillies). Lindisfarne oysters perhaps the best we've had ever (don't tell the French), as was the wine and mains. Very happy to go back in the future. Loses a star as there was a slight issue with our order, which was swiftly resolved. And also because it wasn't particularly full so was quiet - though in fairness it was one of the busiest establishments on the strip.

Amazing friendly staff and without doubt our go to place for Oysters. The chef is a genius with the baked oysters, thanks for letting us try your new creation.

Staff service and ambience good. We had a table for 5, a bit of a special occassion for us. My cod was a little average, bit salty, though others found pork belly, oysters, and salmon a better choice.

Excellent lunch and very attentive service. Food was highest quality albeit some menu options were not available. Pork gujons, meatball , risotto and fruit crumble all top marks!

The food is incredible, no debate. You will not find better food in Cambridge. Above all, The owners of Trinity are the most humble and down to earth people you will ever meet; In fact, the whole team is friendly, kind and very chatty! It was an absolute pleasure. Will recommend to anyone looking for high quality food and service… and a remarkable wine selection ;)

The place is nice and the service is so good. You can ask questions on the menu and answer in details. The food is so delicious. Yet the prices are a little high.

Exceptional. Freshest oysters I have ever had. Outstanding cured trout. Fish cake & Pork Belly also outstanding. Wines clearly very carefully chosen. The owner knows his business. Staff professional but friendly & sensitive. Quiet. Apart from one boisterous table. But that's life! Rcommended.

A very disappointing experience. The food is of a very average gastropub standard but at Michelin star pricing. I had the chickpea and peanut curry starter which was good, but the portion size was tiny, given the £15 price tag. My pork belly main course was ok, but again, not worth £30. The main bugbear here is that the waiting staff take a defensive stance is you mention something is wrong. We had to send two glasses of wine back because there was an oily film on the surface. The waitress said that this is what some white wines are like because of the type of minerals in the water. By the time the third glass came we had all but finished the meal. The waitress then proceeded to inform us that there had been nothing wrong with the wine all along. This put a big damper on the evening. I wouldn’t go back and I don’t recommend this restaurant.

It would have been a 5 stars review, but we were charged £21 (“service charge”) in a bill of £163. The food and the service were top notch but I was not comfortable complaining about the mandatory tip. I would have paid tip anyway but that was weird. To be honest, when I told it, the waiter asked me whether i was not comfortable with it, but after a bottle of St. Émilion I was not ready to complain about anything.

A good modern cuisine restaurant. The oysters are very good. Can get very busy for dinner even midweek.

The best food I've had yet in Cambridge. We had a great time at trinity; the food was excellent, and the staff were extremely attentive. We had two of the vegan options on the menu, which were both great, and the staff were very kind to check which wines were vegan for us. The non vegan meals were also very well received. The bill came to about £40 per person, which included drinks and sides that we shared. Overall, a great experience, I can't wait to go back!

Nothing wrong with the place, the service or the food but none was great. Chose it for a birthday lunch and expected more. I especially made a point to highlight that it was for a birthday and even called right before to remind them - yet they forgot.

Amazing from the moment we came Through the door! We were rushing to go see a play and they were so gracious and able to squeeze us in and offer amazing fast service! The food was outstanding!!!!!! We were back in Cambridge and decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary at the Trinity Restaurant. I was a bit skeptical as we rarely go for this kind of traditionally posh french-kind of restaurants and we personally do a lot of home cooking. But it was excellent! Lovely relaxed environment, friendly and helpful staff. Imaginative cooking, rich flavours skillfully blended together with a spicy twist. Yes it is not cheap, but definitely worth for a celebration!

We had a wonderful dining experience at Trinity. The staff were welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly. The menu isn’t huge but it’s quite different to a lot of restaurants. We love a steak which wasn’t on the menu but that meant we tried something different. Everything we ate was a taste sensation. Such a great find. We are lucky enough to have eaten at a good amount of Michelin stared restaurants - this place was as good - if not better than a few of them. If you are in Cambridge check them out. I’d say very suitable for a romantic date night or a family dinner.

Delicious meal with rabbit, affogato as well as rhubarb lemonade. Maybe more varied choice of starters will be appreciated in the future. Overall a must-go in Cambridge including friendly and professional staff.

Very delicious fresh food. Not many plates to choose but the one we went for were very well done. Nice mix of flavours. I would return there for sure. In terms of price was on average not very pricey but not cheap also. The reserved table was downstairs which wasn’t great in terms of the view :), however, was just us and there was a good distance between tables.

It's a good restaurant with a very attractive menu: with tradicional British food, but modernised. I liked the fact that they offer fixed menus. The place is beautiful. Very nice detail to provide hand lotion in the toilet 🥰 My only con is I found it a little pricey

I really liked this place! They have a very original menu, different from what you can see in other places. I went for the 2-course pre-fixed menu and ordered the croquette (unfortunately they did not have chicken liver, but replaced it with an alternative) and the pork moussaka. Both of them were full of flavour. The only issue for me it's that it's a bit pricey, all the rest was great. Nice service, nice ambience, and clean bathrooms.

Absolute delight of a restaurant. The setup, food and wine choice is impeccable. Staff super friendly and really show a love for everything on their menu. And for the quality of the food, it's really not overly expensive.

Hands down one of the best meals I’ve had for a while and lovely service! The Lindisfarne oysters just became my no.1 favorite overtaking Gillardeau ;) Can highly recommend the trout, rabbit & pork, gnocchi and pork belly…as side we had the Jerusalem artichoke and green cabbage, they were all scrumptious meals.

Probably one of the best meals and experiences we have had. It was so refreshing to choose from a menu with items that were innovative and delicious. So many restaurants today present you with the same predictable stuff. Not Trinity...excellent food and great staff.

Shame about the woman at reception with tatoos. The food was very good. The two waitresses downstairs were excellent. Simply the best . The only spoiler was the woman at the reception desk who was cold unwelcoming, rude and stroppy . Why a business would put someone like that at the front of the house amazes me . To top it all we had been in the restaurant for about 2 hours and she came downstairs and told the waitress to tell us we could only have the table for ten more minutes and we were presented with the bill whilst still eating. However, there were several tables free and they didn't really need ours back. I wouldn't return to this place, only because of this woman. Without her I would have given this restaurant 5 stars

One of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life. Excellent food and great wine, the chef is simply a genius. I would highly recommend this place.

A charming restaurant! The oysters were delicious, our main courses and sides were full of flavour and those containing spice packed a punch 😃 The cheese board had variety and quality. Great wine list , superb expresso martini!The staff were attentive and efficient excellent service. A classy but not pretentious venue . A most enjoyable evening.

Absolutely amazing evening! Food was exceptional, staff were super friendly and extremely professional. They made our evening special. We had the pleasure of meeting the head chef who was super polite. Overall, we highly recommend this place and will definitely go there again. Congrats to the team at Trinity!

Great atmosphere, good pre theatre menu,

We were left feeling really disappointed...the menu was limited but looked promising and to be of good higher end cuisine...we started with the Oysters and these were actually incredible but it went sharply downhill from there...the Salmon albeit cooked to a good standard was accompanied by a Bouillabaisse that was overpowered by an Aniseed flavour and as such tasted of little else. The Seabass came on the bone, I know I was told this on ordering but I didn't fancy much else on the menu so went for this dish. Again it was overpowered by one flavour of coriander...all in all it was such a shame and spoiled the evening a little particularly as the whole meal tipped over £100 and was supposed to be a treat for us two...I have to add the staff were lovely all evening though.

Quality produce, knowledgable welcoming staff and inviting atmospherics; what more could you want. Will be looking to visit again soon and would not hesitate to recommend.

Fabulous food and stunning service

We had awful experience. Came on Sunday and place was empty but members of staff reluctantly let us in for quick drink telling us their place is fully booked. While we were having our glass of wine, some very rude waiter kept telling us to hurry up drinking because someone was coming in 1h20min. We're made feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. Never come back again!

Such a disappointment. Went for a birthday meal...the restaurant put us in the basement by the toilets and didn't seem to know it was a significant birthday despite us telling them well in advance. The place has no character or atmosphere and the food is nothing to sing home about despite the price tag. Limited vegetarian/vegan options which just isn't good enough in this day and age. Server was perfectly friendly but the rest of the staff seemed disinterested. Felt like just one of those classic 'college town' restaurants that relies on the pockets of the uni faculty to keep it going.

I had the soup of the day and the chicken dish - both of which are amazing. The chicken is extremely juicy. I have to admit generally im very picky about my chicken but for this i love it!

Popping for a drink at Trinity Restaurant on 11th March. Our second visit with the last being in July 2021. Both visits were excellent but this one was exceptional. The wine and beer were excellent standard, the staff once again were friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and made us feel really welcome. No request was too much. But this visit was exceptional because of the food. The focaccia and oils were a great start with the dipping oils being extremely flavourful. The baked oyster was great but the accompanying sauce was out of this world. After asking a lot of questions about the sauce the Chef, Karim, came out to talk to us and listening to him talk through the spices used and why and hearing his passion for the food he creates is what made this visit exceptional. If you’re in the vicinity pop in for outstanding food, great drinks and exceptional staff and customer service. Thank you Karim and Trinity staff for a great evening.
