Awful. Bland. Ordered a bottle of vinegar but they didn't provide it. Not even vinegar on the chips. Awful awful waste of £40 order. Went in the bin. Called them and they couldn't care less

The smallest large cod you could imagine soaked in grease and so where the chips the paper was see through it was so greasy

Absolute joke - until a couple of years back best chippie in town - now - worst been going there weekly and its now a lottery whether we get the full order! three times the 'kids' in there have missed items - and today again item missed cant be arsed yet again to go and complain - im done with this pathetic place!

I asked for southern fried chicken breast and when I got home I realised I got given really dry chicken tighs, it has happened multiple times (how can someone work there and not know the difference between breast and tight, or maybe it's just lack of care) but this time I went back to have it replaced. When I got there I was told they haven't got any so I asked for refund as I really didn't fancy old and dry chicken tighs. Even though I paid for breast which costs more I was refunded amount I'd pay for tighs so did mention that to lady that was processing it, after few seconds I was given the rest of the money. However, I could tell she wasn't happy that I asked for the money I actually spent and was rude while handing it to me. So all I can say is that their food quality is terrible! Dry chicken, undercooked chips, greasy cod that cost 7£ for a small piece, really thick gravy so probably sat there all day as it looked like lots of water evaporated. Customer service skills really poor, it seems like they really don't want to be there. Even though it's my local chippie I've decided not to go there ever again and will spend my money somewhere else. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else too!

The worse chip shop food we have ever had the cod was so undercooked chips were anaemic my husband wanted the chicken kebab meat as he always likes it crispy was told that he couldn't have it as he was told it was only for uber orders been visiting this chip shop for over 15 years will never go there again disgusting

One staff member looked like she didn't want to be there, Not very friendly. Food looked good until got it home. Fish and chips dry and feel sure they were left overs from lunch time. I have had food before from the Trawler and usually good, but my family were very disappointed. We will not be going back. What a waste of £42 as food went in the bin.

Went in to order and no one wanted to serve me. The two girls were laughing and saying, "No, you serve her. I don't want to." This is not a great look or feeling for any customer. I will not be coming back. The only one who served me was lovely. I think her name is "Tiggy." She provided very good customer service. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Just a bit mediocre really. Haddock was indifferent, batter not very nice, and although loads of chips, they had a bland flavour. Also forgot my can of pop in the order. Just, meh.

Paid for large cod.given small. One piece of chicken which was raw. I would have taken it back . Been at work all day. It cost me &12.00 chips too. The girl who served me I find very rude.

They cook in dangerous vegetable oils unfortunately but seemed nice enough.

What an absolute shambles – asked for large donna kebab with salad, but the salad to be separate as I wanted to heat in the microwave later. Charged £1.65 extra for the salad! Not happy and not a great kebab –

Trawlers laid on 60 take out meals for us for our quiz night in our village hall in Badby. Gluten free and veggie options catered for, all delicious and travelled well. This is our seond year using Trawlers and we will be back. Highly recommended them and at a great price

Smallest piece of fish ever would just feed a child, chips were awful full of bad bits and cooked badly for the money they charge very poor value, will not be back.

Offer gluten free on a Wednesday which is good however, traveled there twice now to be told their fryer is not on, very disappointing. I mentioned that they advertise gluten free for Wednesdays to be told yes, I know and they’re sorry. I get it is a busy fish and chip shop and staff are rushing to serve customers but don’t advertise for something you cannot offer due to the fryer not being turned on. I am celiac.

We look forward so much to our fish and chips at Trawlers. However having driven for 2 hours looking forward to our dinner we arrived to find Trawler’s to find it closed. Do not rely on Trip Advisor published times☹️

Best chippy in Coventry, has been for over 10 years. I wouldn't go anywhere else

Great chips, rapid service and price pretty reasonable. Easy to find just off the main bypass in the Ashby fields estate. Kebabs also tasty, we had mixed wraps and not too much filling compared to others who stuff them and they become a nightmare to eat. Give them a try well worth it if your in Daventry.

Hardly ever get a take- away, but I was passing at the right time, it looked quiet, so ordered mini fish and chips. £6.80! Very disappointing, the chips were dry and tasteless and the portion was very large, so lots of waste and the fish was practically non existent, it was mostly batter, which was overdone and tough, with a few flakes of fish. Wish I hadn't bothered. Majority went in the bin.

An amazingly long wait for mediocre food. Staff don't seem to want to be there. And service is slow.

Ordered cod & chips here as my usual place was closed while the owners are on holiday. As other reviewers have noted, the prices are crazy. Cod is £6.90 and Haddock £7.10! My usual chippy charge £5.50 for cod and it's significantly larger, to boot. Also, large chips were £4.50, from memory! Ridiculous prices, yet they still seemed busy enough. I won't be returning... there are plenty of other chip shops around the Daventry area.

Have always used trawlers fish bar , lately the quality of the food has gradually declined, the chips my wife and I had today were the worst ever, rock hard went straight in the bin , never going back, if you are looking forward to a chippie dinner avoid this place

New staff, good food though Haddock a lot smaller now.

Overpriced and average quality. Not bad but there are better chip shops in the town.

Shocking quality and service. I definitely wouldn’t advise ordering for a group event. Half a dozen chips and a few flakes of fish lost in batter. I will not be getting my chips from here again.

Always used as a go to Trawlers for a fish and chip supper but their fish prices are ridiculously high so will not use now. Chose another fish shop nearbye and it was excellent and so much cheaper. You have lost our custom .

0 stars. Won’t be coming here again. They Forgot some of my food… then said they knew they had forgotten to put them in my bag and told me I can collect the refund next time I’m in the area? I wanted my food not a refund. after asking if my food Could be delivered as I wasn’t coming back out as I don’t drive.. I was told by the young girl “it ain’t F”ing far mate” They can keep the money and my food. Disgusting service. Won’t be spending my money here again.

Fish was beautiful chips where fresh hot and tasty lovely plaice.

Service slow (deliveroo orders processed ahead of in-store customers). Food order mixed up. Quality of food disappointing. Employees unhelpful and uninterested. Think we will be going elsewhere in future, sadly.

Love Trawlers fish bar but twice now ordered through Uber eats. First time they got item wrong on order. 2nd time round ordering they missed an item off that I paid for. Trawlers response was either come into shop and get the item or get a free item next time. Not good enough and that has really let them down. Really disappointing.

Again ordered meat chips salad and mayonnaise..3rd time no mayonnaise chips creasy and not much meat at all.

I ordered mini cod and chips, cod was dry and hardly any fish in amongst the batter , used to be the best fish and chips in town , but now I usually go to Norton much better and cooked fresh while you wait

The fish Bar is under new management and it does show.. what would have been a 5 star review is not a solid 3. Order was missing somthing on the last visit and had to return to collect.. food quality is not the same and I know it may be harsh to compare now to before but with portion sizes changing depending on who serves you shows a bit of consistency lacking.. considering prices have raised.. its still competitive for the area but way too hit and miss.

Been going to Trawlers for years. Went tonight for the first time in a while and won't be going back. The food was awful, and they got our order wrong. The food used to be lovely.

Popped in today 21st April 2022, wont be gong again awful food, Chips too big like beefeater chips,cod dry and batter greasy,it used to be the place to go for fish and chips in daventry for me, Not anymore, I don’t know if it’s changed owners but believe me they’re the worse I’ve ever had, Avoid .

One word and one word only to describe this place. Disgusting Used to come in on a regular but has gone significantly downhill, staff and food both included. Have moved onto another local chippy and will not be back to this place anytime soon

Have used Trawerls since it opened... many different owners some great some bad.... As of today 1st April 2022 it will be last time using them. Order large chips and looks good in a big box but is only one layer of chips inside so works out your lucky if you get a normal bag! Bttered sausges... one was great the other was dry and crispy. Food was luke warm! So forget this place and get yourself down to the JOLLY FISH BAR on the High St. Best chip shop in town and they owner is great...Bye Bye Trawlers

Just bought some chips from trawlers ..very disappointed..not sure if using different size potatoes or just cutting back on size and thickness..

The best place in Daventry so far, not expensive prices, always fresh fish or kebabs and other stuff.

Chips cold and rock hard. Burger ok at best. 8 staff behind counter. 1 wearing a mask, 1 exempt, 2 with it hanging round their chin, and others didn't bother. Not good enough, very irresponsible, and correct me if I am wrong, illegal. Won't return in a rush, plenty of others nearby.

Don't know what has happened to Trawlers, very slow service today even though there was at least 8 staff, ran out of Cod, so decided to serve me "one that was ready". Got it home to find it under cooked, batter still raw inside

Start with the negative, there's only 1 and on balance the good outweighs this. A lot of fish and chip places around here it seems they like to microwave the pies, either that or undercook them leaving the pastry rather rank. Isn't a health and safety issue but the quality let's you down when that happens, please stop it and have the customer wait longer, I'd be happier with that personally. Now to the positive.. I've probably over the last 12 months tried most the things on their menu, The fish is outstanding, I lived in Cornwall for 8 years and am used to high quality fish being that close to the sea, I don't know how trawlers do it, but they're the only fish and chip shop that has that same level of high quality yet we're miles from the sea. That's impressive. The chicken, amazing quality nicer than KFC in my opinion. The kebabs, just as good as any other doner kebab shop around here although if you did shish kebabs too, that would be a bonus but I see why you don't as you've an extensive menu. The chips again amazing quality and a very generous portion size. Burgers, they're bulk standard ones but grab some bacon in there and it makes for a tasty combo. Even with the pie issue they deserve a 5 star as everything else they do is near on perfection.

Absolutely disgusting. Never go here again the kebab meat tasted like it was warmed up in a microwave. I asked for him to taste it but he was rude and unprofessional. The chips were so greasy and bland. I will never go here again.

Queued outside as numbers in the shop were restricted, once in, I was served very quickly. As usual the fish and chips were excellent. Nothing more needs to be said.

Has gone from 5star to 3star with new owners. Burger meat and kebab meat quality have dropped to cheaper products.

Chips are ok they need to put more salt and vinegar on. Sausage poor and the curry sauce is not the chip shop curry sauce we all know and love.The spring roll we had was just a mouthful of grease. So overall feel robbed might as well put my money in the bin where the chips are going. So now I have to spend out more to eat thanks Trawlers 🤬👎🏻

Couldn’t believe the low quality of the fish that I received tonight, so bad that I took it back and complained that I thought it was reheated from the morning-full of grease in the batter. They exchanged it without any problem, but when I returned home this next piece of fish was just as bad. I think they have a problem with either the batter, or more than likely the temperature of their oil? The chips were okay, mushy peas etc all okay. This is the second or third time that it has not been great since the management change.

Recently moved to Daventry and this is my local chippie. Very disappointed with the poor quality doner meat and soggy chips. If the owners are reading this, kindly sort out your poor food.

Absolutely horrid... Since the new owner took over, quality has dropped significantly. Unless soggy fish and chips is your thing, avoid at all costs.

Excellent deep fried products. Done kebabs are great alng with fresh fish cooked to order. Reasonable prices. Very busy between 17:30 and 20:00. But worth the wait if you have to.

Locally popular place with friendly staff. Very clean inside. Quite wide choices of dishes. Anyway my favourite is classic fish&chips.

Travelled from Weedon to this very poor fish & chip shop and just got home to find missing a bag off chips and the pie is Luke warm and my scallops are old and swimming in fat and taste of fat and not much else?? all ways has new staff ?? What must says bad things about the management I would not go to this chips again any time soon

I’m gluten free, for the first time my cod was over cooked and dry 😞 chips were ok,could have done with another minute Hubby had Haddock usually he loves it but he said it was really greasy. Such a shame. There were masses of chips, it is such a waste of food half the portion would have easily done us both.

Have just travelled from Weedon and just got back home To discover a missing bag of chips and a lukewarm pie and very greasy and stale looking scallop ?? and tastes even worse than it looked , always has new staff what says a lot about the management I would not use again.

I use this chip shop fairly regularly and have always found them to be very good but the last 2 visits the chips were terrible. They were very pale and greasy and when unwrapped were just all sticking together in a mass. It is if the chips were not cooked hot enough or they have changed the cooking oil they use. It is a shame because in the past they were always crispy and had a bit of colour to them.

'Lockdown' cod & chips tasted amazing! Served in an enclosed box & bag, all recyclable. Long queue outside due to social-distance. Great service👍

Food is always good so far. I disagree with the minimum limit to use the card machine though. £10 is high.

£10 minimum card payment for a chip shop..get over yourself or get with the times...Michaels chippy is not far, do yourself a favour...

My last review, back in January, was scathing as the meal we had was of poor quality. Just tried Trawlers once again, to see if it was back to its best. Well, what a surprise, the fish was large, pure white and perfectly cooked. Chips were cooked to perfection and not at all greasy. Trawlers are back to their best again.

First visit in a long time. Was really impressed with the Covid measures in place. Really good fresh food and plenty of it. Excellent value for money.

A truly awful meal. The chips were one big blob but the kebab was stale meat previously cooked and rehashed on the grill. The meat was dry and crispy so after 2 bites I threw the lot away. I used to go there some years ago but Michael's chippie was better. They were shut today so I made the mistake of going to Trawlers. It's a mistake i shan't be making ever again. Yuk.

We had a good meal from this takeaway restaurant, huge portions of fish and chips. The only downside was the fish was slightly greasy.

Ordered a mini cod and was served (for takeaway) a reasonable looking portion. Amazingly the fish inside was tiny ( not even mini!). How on Earth they made all that batter look like a portion of fish is incredible. Very disappointed and won’t be making a repeat visit.

Do your self a favour don't order a kebab, chips were OK but still poor for the price. Use to be a good place but has gone down hill massively.

Great local chippy and everything cooked fresh which means it can get busy and take time, it’s worth the wait though. Only take hard currency if under a tenner though there’s a free cash machine at Tesco. Edit June 2020 - now take contactless card!

My boyfriend went in tonight to order 2 cod and chips, mushy peas and a pickled egg. 1) Ended up with no cod. 2) Apparently staff don’t know the difference between pickled eggs and onions 🙄 Ended up with 2 large portions of chips, mushy peas and 2 pickled onions. He repeated the order a few times and the cashier repeatedly nodding like churchill the dog. Staff were well within 2 metres of each other and half of them didn’t look interested. Took a while for this order, it only has 2 stars because it was a big portion of chips and the entertainment of 3 employees trying to pick up a fish cake.

Tried this place for dinner for the first time. Loved the burgers will definitely be coming again to try the rest of the food on the menu! Hopefully then opening times can be rearranged to be opened until later. In my 4 years of living in Daventry I've never been able to try their food because of the odd timings.

The most incredibly fresh fish purchased and enjoyed last night. Great chips and curry sauce. Delicious!! This place has been awesom for a long time now. A must try!

Sadly not good. The batter was very oily and greasy and the fish inside was undercooked and cold in the middle so could ot be eaten. The chips were nice and not over greasy. Not been there in a couple of years and wont be back.

Rang through our order was offered a time that suited me to collect on arriving walked straight in collected and paid one in one out keeping distance at all times food was delicious

After a long time of not going there we decided to give it another go and we were pleasantly surprised. Great improvement on the chips and good quality fish but a little on the greasy side but good batter. Hopefully this will continue to improve. Can't comment on the staff as husband has collected.

This used to be the best fish and chips around.You know they have lost their audience when you go in at 6.30 on a Saturday and you are the only customer.Greasy fish, soggy cold chips. Part of the order was paid for but was missing when we got it home.Not my first bad experience, last time I ordered chicken and it was inedible, could have made shoes with it it was so overcooked and tough.Won’t be going there again, even though ut is just down the road.
