Travellers Rest in South Cambridgeshire

Booked a table for 5 pm, as they were busy earlier. The young man in his 20s who served us was outstanding. He was really friendly, knew his stuff and made my wife and I feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble, even though he was rushed off his feet. Good variety menu and reasonable prices.

We go to travellers rest every Saturday. And every Christmas Living across the road from it, it will be a disaster when it closes. Better promotion would bring in clients & having parking is a plus

Hit and miss with breakfast some days brilliant next day poor luck of the draw really same with staff.very old premises need gutting and revamp.

Food was good very quiet Ordered a sirloin rare unfortunately it came medium due to being hungry I ate it is was acceptable but chef maybe needs to start looking at his cooking of steaks I had bfast also while here very good poached egg near perfect maybe you should cook the steaks lol

It was this bad I won’t leave a detailed response but to sum up… . Booked in advance. Arrived early. Waited 30 mins for a drink and ignored by waitress who kept walking past us without saying “Be with you shortly.” Drinks took longer than it should to arrive as again they took ages to check on intolerance to the cocktails which are all premixed so then had to reorder . When we first ordered I was insulted by Zelda from Terrahawks the waitress over my intolerances. Starters arrived 50 mins after arriving there - made a request for more sauce. Main course arrived before I finished my starter. Asked 3 times for more sauce for starter the first before starters arrived! 15 mins later sauce arrived as we were about to walk out and told them to cancel the main courses. Told waitress we wanted to pay up and she sent for the manager. She kept us waiting which I commented on - and to be fair she said sorry to keep us waiting - I said it’s okay we’ve been used to it tonight. The only apology we received. I said we wanted to pay what we owed. Tried to explain the bad service to her and instead of giving us an apology of any kind she said well what do you want to pay for? At which point I then said just “the drinks” when she genuinely was going to let us pay for what we’d had despite the awful service and kept waiting so long. She aggressively said that we could just have it all for free and then said are we happy? I said, no. What I was expecting was some kind of an apology. At which point she said “wow and started muttering” At which point we walked out. No customer service whatsoever. For the record had she have had any customer service skills whatsoever and given us an apology we would have paid for what we had but perhaps expected some discount. Places like this deserve to go out of business and this is one of them. Stay clear. Shame as the prawn cocktail other than the tiny amount of sauce was actually quite nice after the hour long wait. But then again I could have eaten the table.

Friendly, efficient staff in this Beefeater restaurant, located on the Huntingdon Road on the west side of Cambridge. Food was tasty and good value for money. The menu was mostly standard British pub fare plus some really good vegetarian options ( very nice Butternut Squash Lasagne with salad). A good, reasonably-price spot for grabbing a bite to eat when travelling.

We have visited this restaurant with our little one . We booked it in advance for a lunch. We arrived on time and we have been shown the table and before we sat down, the waitress asked us for a drink order. As we have never been there before, so we did not know the options- especially for our little one, who is a bit active, so giving us a table in the area where the waitress went so often was a bad choice. The waitress who came in 5 minutes asked again for a drink and now for a food order- we felt that she is rushing us. The adult 2 course meals have been nice, the kids 3 course menu very simple and not “exciting”. Beans as a side been very dry, but for the price paid for it - it was not too bad. Disappointment came when there was no option to take the rest of the food with us as our little one barely eat anything- they have been able to only give us the ordered dessert- it was literally the dry pancake put in the foil 🫣. We liked the food, but the staff attitude was not welcoming at all. We felt being constantly rushed even when the place was not busy at all (only a few tables with guests) and the unfriendly looks every time the waitress pass around made us not welcomed. Our friend recommended us this place and we looked forward to visit, but it was very disappointing experience. We felt that the waitress was glad we are taking the dessert home and we are leaving. It was our first visit and probably the last :(

Lovely roast, great value and the waitress (aliyah) was absolutely lovely to talk to and great customer service from her

Okay, I have reviewed here before as we live opposite and it is a 5 minute walk away but we have never had a bad steak! We have eaten at most of the Cambridge recommended steak places but The Cambridge Beefeater just delivers every time. I think it is the juiciest medium rare fillet I have ever eaten. Their burgers are also excellent plus it is a locally family run establishment who really care. Their wines start at £15 a bottle and our £15.50 bottle of French Sauvignon Blanc was just delightful. We joined their loyalty programme and we had 40% off. Please do give it a go if you are that side of town. Totally recommend. ❤

First class meal. We both had steak which were cooked to perfection; lovely peppercorn sauce. A few more chips would have helped but really good mains. Apple pie & custard (when did I last have that?) was delicious & my friend’s ice cream Sundae was a hit. Halina was a wonderful waitress, aided by manager Julian. Great evening offering good value.

Lovely meal and friendly staff. Our meal was very fresh and tasted wonderful. We also had breakfast and that was very good too.

12 of us including 4 children came today for my birthday. The staff had added a birthday balloon to the table, the food was hot and tasty and the service great. Thank you to the team

Not the most memorable meal. The quality of the food is uninspiring, the quantity is minimal and menu choice pretty limited. There are many better chain pubs out there and would not eat at a Beefeater again

Came in to the travellers rest and was greeted with a smile from Rachel she took me to a table in the conservatory and took a drink order, I had a Carling.was asked about allergies which I don't have..Had a meal from the lunch menu.Racheal was very friendly and couldn't do enough, I recommend this beefeater to everyone who wants a great price meal

Visited for the first time with a good friend, had a fantastic evening, Everything was cooked perfectly. We were served by Leah who was bubbly, friendly and attentive. We will be back

Staying here for a few days, went for dinner in the beefeater next to our hotel and was served by a new waitress named Leah who was lovely bubbly and very amusing, food was great would definitely return, the little bar area is also very nice

We had a superb family meal on a Friday night. Tracy was attentive and super helpful and friendly. Food was good although there are several items that seemed to be unavailable. We found some lovely food and the chocolate and hazelnut was amazing

I've been staying in the Premier Inn next door with my team and we've had our evening meals in the Travellers most days. I would like to thank Sue for her outstanding service and the friendly way she looked after us each evening. it was noticeable when it was her night off. on a side note, perhaps you could add vegetables to your menu. chips with everything is not healthy, no variety and boring after day 2. when you consider the media currently reference food, isn't it time Beefeater woke up and started to provide a better range of sides to go with steak.

We come here with our special needs client. Well all I can say is, fabulous. This place is amazing, amazing staff and amazing food, the young lady is so polite and the gentleman r gentleman.. I come every week and will carry on. Just loverly. Xxxxx

Really enjoyed my meal, Chicken and pork ribs. A few shortages on the menu, no sweetcorn, no blackberry and apple crumble. Not really impressed with the hazelnut and chocolate bomb. It could have done with something extra, cream or ice cream. Tracy, who served us did everything she could with suggestions of replacements. e,g onion rings instead of sweetcorn. Couldn’t believe they have Santa in the foyer already. Give us a break, it’s only September!!

I came in for a meal with my partner and we enjoyed the atmosphere in the place the waitresses were very friendly and polite. The food was great my partner had a best ever mix grill and the steak and lamb was cooked perfect and I ordered the trio of fish and it tasted so good and the presentation for it was amazing

This beefeater is next door to the premier inn so we booked an evening meal there (also breakfast the next day) . We queued outside to go in for our evening meal as it was busy. Our meal and drinks order were taken reasonably quickly although some items on the menu were not available . Our food was delivered quite quickly and the fish and chips were delicious. Some of the best we’ve had in a long time….. plenty of white fish and crisp batter all served by a friendly attentive waitress called Tracey W. The place was clean…..tables well spaced ….although the beams made it seem rather dark. Most people wore masks when moving around but not all staff were wearing them. We had breakfast too and the fried breakfast was very good… lovely fresh eggs and bacon served again by friendly staff.

Arrived in Reception warm greeting, easy check in, asked if we needed anything Reception was available 24/7. After having a cup of tea went back asked for more tea bags, was given a small carrier bag with replenishments.Dinner in Reception was excellent, Sue our waitress was attentive chatty helpful overall customer service was 100% made our evening

Being attached to a Premier inn, I couldn't fault the continental breakfast. Which was excellent Had 3 evening meals over the weekend. The first and second evening,the food was excellent well presented hot and very tasty not a long wait for the food either. Lovely friendly staff. The third evening things not so good with my main course, 45 min wait for the food which at best had been thrown on the plate, was just warm and the chips very over done. I could have complained but I was hungry and didn't want another 45min wait. Very disappointing

We were back again today for another fantastic meal! The steaks were so tasty and were cooked to perfection. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming. See you next weekend!

We were greeted at the door by Marcus who showed us to our table and made us feel very welcome with a smile and happy attitude.. Halina went above and beyond with her table service and was without a doubt the best waitress we’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting .. the food was fantastic and always tasty Thank you for a superb time

The staff are 1st class, Child orientated, The food was absolutely delicious. There was so much choice, On both On both, The child and adult menu.Lots of things on the activity sheet to keep the children occupied whilst they wait for the delicious food to arrive.Tracy , our Hostess for the evening, Was truly amazing. If nothing else she would be a real reason to return. She looked after u as if she'd known as for her life. However in reality she had only just met. The beefeater should be really proud of this particular hostess. As she is everything you would want to have to run a restaunt. Thank you, for a lovely meal.

I came in last Saturday evening for a family meal I was very impressed with the young gentleman who should us to our table and served us throughout our stay his name was tom polite and knowledgeble we were grateful for his recommendation of food on the menu we will definitely be coming back again

Decided we wanted to eat out to celebrate a birthday. We had mixed grills plus a side order of onions rjngs and they were superb. The steak cooked to perfection the gammon and chicken deliciously moist and everything had the wonderful flame grilled taste. Really filling meals, before setting out we'd decided on our desserts, after the mixed grills we gave up, no spare room for dessert. Staff were lovely, everything cleaned down after each customer left. OK its been a while since we've eaten out like this but this was exceptionally enjoyable.

It was great to see some new items on the menu, on a diet and avoiding chips but having to work away, normally choice is limited, tried the signature salad and grilled chicken, really tasty. Great to see this, big bowl of food and moist chicken grilled nicely, cannot complain about this dish and Tracy who served me advised the Grilled Tuna and signature salad was really worth trying on my next visit. Many thanks to all the staff for the service and delicious food after a long day working nearby.

Visited meeting family as an alternative to Cambridge services. Never visited a Beefeater for years but was pleasantly surprised. Despite it being a busy Saturday evening the service and attention given by the manager was superb. The food was very good too. Very enjoyable.

We had an evening meal in mid-week and to start with the restaurant is very dated and I’m sorry to say dirty, it is need of a clean as it is dusty in parts and our table was stained and the blinds next to our table were dusty. The service was very poor as we had to wait nearly 30 mins just for our drinks to arrive to our table and then the food arrived about 10 mins after that - it wasn’t worth the wait!!Without doubt the worse meal we have ever had, I had the veggie version of chilli con carni which is advertised as coming with nachos, the waitress brought my meal and told me they had run out of nachos so I didn’t have any, no alternative was offered and no discount was provided, the food tasted like it was frozen half hour prior to arriving, I don’t expect high end quality in a place like this but I didn’t expect it to taste like it was cheap and nasty, clumpy rice and bland tasteless ingredients, my wife had the Cesar chicken salad and the chicken tasted stale, the salad was a joke as it consisted of a few large tomatoes cut into chunks with lettuce and drowned in Mayo!I pre paid for breakfast as we stayed in the premier inn next door and usually enjoy breakfast booked through this hotel chain, however the bacon and sausage provided were cheap and nasty and barely cooked, the bacon contained a large strip of fat not crispy and slimy and covered in oil, I asked for scrambled egg and had a small spoonful of that, the breakfast part of the restaurant was also grimy and in need of a clean.It was the worse eating out experience we have had as a family and we shall not be returning and I would encourage others to not waste their money on this place.

Went for lunch on Saturday and had gammon, egg and chips. Food was delicious and service was excellent. Prices reasonable. I will definitely go again. Very clean and friendly atmosphere.

Had breakfast and lunch here over a weekend. Breakfast was OK - all seemed a bit grubby - sticky tables, smeared plates etc. Lunch was fairly poor - my husband had the first roast of the day and it was cold. Tasted like the lamb had probably been cooked the day before and reheated. Gravy was just brown water. Service however is brilliant - the staff were all lovely and it’s not their fault the food is bad.

Had a stop off meal here en route to a surprise for our son and this kicked off our mini holiday fantastically. Lovely meal, great staff, especially Sue, who was very attentive to our needs. She was very understanding of our son's Asperger's and his quirky meal wishes. Couldn't ask for more. Would definitely visit again if in the area. Thank you guys, thank you Sue ❤️

My partner and I were visiting Cambridge for a couple of days with two friends. Had a lovely meal on Friday night, with brilliant friendly service from Sue, who had a great sense of humour perfectly suited for a daft bunch of people like us!

Gone from good, to utter rubbish. Was meant to be a birthday meal. But it ended being awful. Staff with no idea Food cold No cutlery for 10 mins after deserts being served Chips as sides, smaller than a kids portion.

Phenomenal Barman! Think he said his name was Keenan. He was walk welcoming and made sure to limit heads on pints. He pulled pints like Matt Hancock with a girl he told his wife not to worry about. The mixed grill was succulent and left me feeling content. 11/10, Overall would certainly recommend for any traveller in need of a rest no matter how weary!

Had the Lamb chops and they were amazing, great portions. Friendly and welcoming staff, couldn't fault the service or anything else about the place.

Couldn't fault the food nor staff, my lamb was perfectly cooked likewise my partners Tuna.I always find quieter night's the best here,we had just come back from a funeral,to see friendly happy staff was a welcoming refreshment,hats off to Tracy our waitress, very efficient and polite.I have read other reviews, I have done professional catering, I see where the negativity comes from.I know many places have staffing issues,hospitality has been decimated by the pandemic,its hard for all front line staff and kitchen staff right now to work in these strange times.Could've have been worst. Could have been permanently closed ,just be grateful its open and doing the best they can like most other eating houses and its far from perfect for them all.

I think it's safe to say that we have had our last visit to this beefeater. As is the present climate the restaurant was bookings only, but the place was less than 20% busy. We had booked a breakfast for 4 of us on father's Day at 9.30 - as there is literally only full English and continental breakfast available you would think this shouldn't be too much of s challenge...We were seated after having to pay as we walked in, yes, paying for your meal at the front door now for some reason. Made a simple order, morning more complicated than scrambled eggs and orange juice and sat and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited some more.At 10.55, 85 minutes after ordering we finally got some food. 85 minutes - I mean, seriously, my 9 year old could have cooked our meals quicker -apparently they were busy. Busy doing anything but cooking for customers who have already paid. There were 23 other customers not 123, what on earth has happened? Oh and I can also vouch that they weren't cleaning instead of cooking with the amount of lipstick marks on our glasses, I mean come on beefeater, this is Covid time, you can't even clean or check that things are clean.Completely utterly hopeless, don't ever bother

After such a long time away from our favourite place to visit, it was such a great feeling to be welcomed back in a warm greeting and by name which was a superb feeling to be remembered... exceptional service from Helina.. who served us our Sunday roast of which was fantastic value for money and wow Delicious!! John knew our drinks and was happy to see us again and took us to our regular table(out of the way of other people) .. Marcus went above and beyond with his happiness and recommendations.. a superb place to visit and a home from home

We are regulars so couldn't wait to be back after this pandemic. As per usual John and the team are amazing with there service and go above and beyond for the customers. We were served by halina who is so friendly and also Marcus who went above and beyond for us during our visit. The food was lovely was so nice to be there again. I can whole heartedly say that this beefeater team is the best and best I've eaten at. So glad to see them open again :)

When I have a meal it is always good and yummy so I think the Beefeater is really good! This is a fantastic restaurant!

Its nice to get back into the beefeater for some hearty food! Clean restaurant with quality service. Food was served quickly and hot plus the steak cooked perfectly. Only downside is that they don't do unlimited chips anymore :(

The ongoing pandemic has meant that any notion of a help yourself buffet for a cooked breakfast or even a continental breakfast is out of the question and everything had to be ordered at the table, from juice and coffee to cereal and any cooked options. However, service was prompt (we were probably the only customers in the restaurant at the time) and the cooked food was hot and tasty. Pleasingly, coffee was Costa Coffee and two mugs of latte were welcome. There were some limitations on which cereals were available and I am unsure why a pack of muesli could be served to the table but not a box of Coco Pops for example. Aside from this, it was everything we expected from a Whitbread chain restaurant (at breakfast it is difficult to distinguish between the brands) in a Covid-secure way.

Have been to this venue several time now , both for breakfast and dinner. What can I say other that great food, friendly staff and good value. Would recommend every time.so good we are going there Xmas day.

Service was good good slightly slow but understandable, we are regulars that come every couple of weeks. Good range of gins that we like and tried the new Christmas pudding gin that was lovely.

Called in for dinner and as always it was great, staff were friendly as they always are, will be back again soon.Many thanks to Jon, Marcus and their team for making this once again a great visit.

Visiting Cambridgeshire, called in here for breakfast which was great, have been here before and that’s the reason for our return as per usual staff were friendly and looked after us very well. Will be back.

Staying with the hotel attached, just hlad to have the pub open so I dont have to keep buying take out, everything was great.

Had Christmas Dinner Friday night no sprouts or cranberry sauce hubby had steak cook perfect. Service slow on Saturday Had chicken melt no side salad hubby had mozzarella filled chicken both dinners were small. Slow service again.

Haven’t really been to a restaurant since lockdown, so pleased with how they are taking precautions with Alicia distancing. Such kinda and friendly staff and the food was amazing, will definitely be returning.

On the surface, their lunchtime offer looks good compared with dinner prices. However, despite upgrading our steaks from rump to sirloin (for extra charge), the quality of the beef was pretty poor. The plate consisted of steak with gristle/fat, dried peas and chips. It was a classic example of, ‘if you pay half price, you get half value’. Disappointing! Two steak meals ordered were both poor.

Enjoyable visit with the wife to our local Beefeater. Usually come for the great breakfast offer! Lovely food and speedy service. We are reward card holders so used our discount we had saved up well worth it.

Staff were friendly and welcoming. Food was perfect and on time. Atmosphere was warm and comforting. Would definitely recommend.

The food vas average, mashed potatoes were definitely not fresh and the price was way to high for this quality of food.

We have been going to this beefeater for over 2 years.We have never had a bad meal/drink.The service is superb and the staff are very friendly.Now with Covid to contend with we feel so safe and we will be back again next week for another lovely meal.Thank you to John and his amazing team.

Pedí el jamón del menú del almuerzo y quedé muy contento con la porción por el precio. Las medidas de seguridad que tienen implementadas para covid también están bien pensadas. Visiting family popped to the local beefeater, pleasant as always. Good to see the lunchtime menu is back as I don't always want a huge meal. Staff friendly, restaurant looked clean and all staff wearing masks which is great to see.

Esperaba disfrutar de una pequeña comida en el Beefeater, pero tuve una mala experiencia y no volveré. Cuando entré, no había nadie en el área delantera para que me sentara y no había forma de llamar la atención de un miembro del personal, así que esperé unos minutos y cuando no apareció nadie, fui al bar para informar al personal. miembro que estuve allí, lo que resultó en un miembro del personal que me reprendió por 'preguntarme'. Le informé que no había nadie en la parte delantera para sentarnos, y me dijo que volviera al frente. En el frente, nuevamente, el miembro del personal me reprendió moviéndome. Llevaba una máscara y no había muchos clientes en ese momento, así que no entendía de dónde venía esta mala educación. Después de sentarse, la camarera vino a tomar mi pedido y luego me dijo que podría haber pedido en el bar. Le dijimos que decidimos sentarnos en el comedor y nos sentamos allí por la anfitriona, luego me reprendió por haberme preguntado por el edificio y podría haber pedido sentarse en el bar. Me sorprendió este horrible servicio al cliente y no entiendo por qué nos trataron tan mal. No coma aquí a menos que quiera que le traten mal.

La comida es extremadamente cara para lo que obtienes tanto con el tamaño de las porciones como con la calidad de la comida. Nuestra camarera era miserable y salió de mala educación. Fue una pena, ya que ha pasado un tiempo desde nuestra última visita, pero ha ido cuesta abajo. Lo han hecho bien al crear un flujo unidireccional seguro y un distanciamiento social. Entiendo la conveniencia de ir si te alojas en el Premier Inn pero no recomendaría salir de tu camino para ir allí.

El personal todavía era educado y servicial, pero el servicio de desayuno era lento y desordenado el sábado por la mañana. Creemos que necesitan más personal para hacer frente al nuevo servicio de desayuno estilo Covid, ya que las únicas cosas que puede traer usted mismo son tostadas y bebidas calientes. ¡También se quedarían sin mantequilla!

Halina fue nuestra mesera esta noche y nuevamente la atendieron con gran profesionalismo y excelencia, la comida estuvo muy buena y desde el nuevo menú no decepcionó, felicitaciones a los chefs que siempre acomodan mi amor por los frijoles. .El restaurante estaba limpio y muy bien organizado respetando la normativa de distanciamiento social.Altamente recomendado.

Así que no te puedes quejar del personal aquí. Son sorprendentes. Siempre tan útil para nosotros cuando venimos. Decidió reservar una mesa para celebrar nuestro aniversario de bodas.El menú reducido todavía tenía muchas opciones con entrantes, platos principales y postres.El servicio fue, como de costumbre, muy bueno y el restaurante también estaba muy ocupado (debido al 50% de descuento).No tenía ninguna preocupación en el restaurante sobre la cantidad de comensales, ya que estábamos todos separados y el personal era muy consciente de Covid, desinfectante, etc.En general, una experiencia agradable.

Personal grosero. Trata muy mal a las familias con niños. Fuimos amenazados por su personal, que afirma que es su restaurante. Amazing lot of staff, all have great customer service and very polite. The food was amazing. 10/10 :)

Went on Friday 4th September 20. Was very quiet. Waitress Tracy looked after us very well and was friendly. Good was good and hot, however felt the portion sizes for the price were a bit small on the main menu. Only concern was that waitress was not wearing a mask at anytime we were there, including delivering food and drinks.
