had lunch at the travellers Joy with friends, service was excellent, staff were helpful and attentive x Food was lovely and great value for money x Adam the Manager checked on us without being intrusive and was so helpful looking after our needs as we were an elderly group of women, nothing was too much trouble. So than you to Adam and his staff, you made our day and you were quite funny too!

We went in to eat however I know we were strangers we were treated like 3 headed aliens . What a difference in a year

The place was ok but the food was horrible, macdonald burgers are better, the burgers were 100% frozen and i think they got them from aldi or lidl,

What a lovely quaint pub. Staff were all very pleasant. Food was excellent. The lager was on point. Very tidy place. The only thing that made me feel uncomfortable, was a few of the locals. Very clicky and made unecessary comments about the staff. Overall, we had a very pleasant few visits there and have recommended to my friends. Thankyou

Food and service OK, pub a bit dowdy looking inside Table hadn't been wiped down properly ,limited menu ,looks un cared for generally but previous reviews seem to love it

When we left, I said to the barmaid "Enjoy the rest of your day" She said "What do you mean by that?" I don't know how she took it, but I will never go back again, she made me feel uncomfortable in front of my wife and other customers. A poor place, with poor service. Avoid!!

Lovely little pub and thoroughly enjoyed the folk singing session where anyone and everyone can take part or join in. Great vibes and so the staff were so friendly and helpful. Will definately be going back 😊

Excellent value for money! I had fish and chips, which I found tasty. I do prefer Birds Eye peas, but that is just a personal choice. Staff very friendly.

First of all we googled the menu and thought 👍. Upon arriving we discovered that must be an old menu because we were greeted with your typical pub food. My hubby had a pie which he said was ok but the crust was inedible as it was rock hard, which we had heard from other tables around us. I had sausage and mash, well for £10.25 I at least expected decent sausages, nope I got cheapy no flavour ones, awful. Not what we were expecting so won't be returning. Quality does not match the prices they charge.

A lovely independent pub/restaurant - good food, lots of variety, good value and kid friendly. We visited during peak season and found many other pubs were fully booked, even when making advance reservations - we were surprised by how quiet Traveller's Joy was by comparison. We can only assume it's to do with its location on the island (i.e. the quieter west side), but it's actually only a few minutes drive from Newport and well worth the journey.

Called in on the off chance late Sunday afternoon, hoping for food. We were in luck. All day reasonably priced roasts available to 8:00pm. And very nice they were too, as were the deserts. A great selection of real ales only added to our enjoyment. The only downside was it was our last day on the island and we won’t be able to return. Well not this time anyway.

Visited whilst on holiday at thornes bay for my sister's birthday meal Group of 10 of us had a meal and dessert, service was excellent and meals all came together. All meals are homemade and were all very nice and of good size and reasonably priced. My nephew is gluten free and they catered to his requirements with ease.

I normally use the Travs for drinking, but I thought I'd try the Wednesday Pie Day. Absolutely brilliant chicken and mushroom pie. The chicken was really tender and tasty, the pastry was" just like mum made". Well worth a visit for food and not just beer, but the beers are brilliant as well. It's definitely worth another visit.

Went here for our 29th wedding anniversary meal while on holiday and then with our family a couple of days later great food great service and a great price would definitely recommend visiting

There was very little joy at the Travellers Joy. As you go or down the hill towards the pub put your foot on the accelerator and speed on past. 6 of us ate. Both of the mixed grill were overcooked, infact at one point we thought they had used some old shoe soles instead of gammon. Their sausages were so overdone they were impossible to cut. Two-of us had the Salmon fishcakes, it was a case of spot the salmon and avoid the stodge. We all had chips with our meals and they were all over cooked. We mentioned it to the waitress, who just said she was sorry about that and then disappeared for 10 minutes. The landlady next appeared and asked how our meals were and my husband said not good. She laughed.. he reiterated thst the meals were not good, she laughed again and walked away. Avoid the place at all costs because it certainly wasnt good value.

Loved this place, again what a find. Another little pub out of the way, but serves great pub food. Simply one of the best meals we have had for a while.

I didn't strar the food as I just stopped for a very pleasant beer! Bur having said that I did notice hot food coming out to other customers and it looked and smelled delicious!

Great service, friendly atmosphere, wonderful food and indoor and outdoor seating. My friends and I were on a short break on the IOW we decided to stop for a roast dinner here and we’re not disappointed. The landlord and landlady were friendly and welcoming offering great advice on how to get about on the island. The food was amazing we will definitely be coming back when we come over again 10/10

Dropped in for dinner with my family, food was very good and the staff were very friendly.

Visited with my husband and two children, the Sunday roasts were amazing, so filling and full of flavour. Staff are lovely and really accommodating to children especially with my fussy eater haha. Bread and butter pudding was amazing and the children loved their ice creams with sauce and sprinkles 😀 Would definitely visit here again 😍

Saturday Steak night - fresh steak cooked perfectly on a generous plate of food, extremely good value, excellent hosts - made for a very pleasant evening. Recommend you try it and bring your dog too

Come on holiday from wales and Went for food on Sunday 14th May 23 for a Sunday lunch must say the food was amazing and the people were so friendly we will definitely be back when we visit the island again

Came in for pie night and was astonished by the size of the pies and rest of the servings! The mash was lovely and creamy and the gravy topped it off with the delightful meat juices. Will definitely be coming back again. Excellent service, great staff, very friendly pub and an overall good vibe from everyone!

Once again, I am apsolutely delighted to say I had another astonishing meal at the Travellors joy, the mixed grill was cooked perfectly, what a load of meat that I just about finished well worth the money, and once again the hospitality was so warming and friendly, all the customers were lovely the bar staff were very welcoming, I definitely recommend giving them a visit.

Waited approx an hour for food. Asked for some bread and butter and expected sliced baguette and butter pieces. Got white sliced bread and spread. Finally, the food arrived. My husband ordered mixed grill medium rare. Not so.... The meat was chewy and unrecognizable..., Just slabs of tough meat. I wanted a homemade lovely dinner so ordered the Chicken and Mushroom pie with mashed potatoes and peas. I expected a pie in a pot with mashed potato on the side and peas in a side dish. It came out in a BOWL all squashed together and covered in cheap gravy. No chicken..... Just mushrooms in a squish slice of so called pie. Traveller's Hell. Beware.

Fantastic range of real ales. Super friendly welcome and service, very dog friendly. . Beer garden. Didn't eat but food choice excellent, proper pub grub with enticing specials. It is a wee bit run down.

If eating there's no joy or worth traveling to here, bland over cooked veg accompanied by packet Yorkshire with tasteless gravy. Maybe just have the bread and butter pudding. On the plus they serve well conditioned ales. Nice staff.

Avoid this pub!!! If you want nice food I have just wasted £50 the food is absolutely terrible also my 2 year old grandson went to play on the slide and stepped in dog waste he was smothered in it!!!!!absolutley discusting. Flies everywhere

Absolutely fantastic traditional pub with a large beer garden, play area for kids and 2 pool tables. Serving a large choice of well kept pump beers, lagers, spirits and wines. Decent selection of hot and cold food in generous portions. Dog friendly too. Highly recommended.

A really lovely pub with a large beer garden and play area. Dog friendly and the staff are friendly and helpful. Had a lovely evening there and will return there for drinks and dinner. Update: we went back for lunch. Food is good and very generous portions all at very reasonable prices. Would recommend this lovely pub for families and couples it’s a chilled environment and great to relax there for a few hours.

5 stars from us, a beautiful little pub in a quiet peaceful area. Pete went out of his way to give my family a lift to the chain ferry as we were struggling to get a taxi , and refused us offering to give him some money for it! I really recommend a visit! Great pub, great area and great owners!

Took some of my family here today for a roast & we were really looking forward to it from the reviews I read , staff were very polite but the roast was awful the potatoes were deep fried & the veg was very over cooked (what little veg you did have, about 10 cubes of swede a tiny bit of white cabbage & limp carrots) & that was there large roast @ £10.25 , the stuffing balls were black as I think were deep fried as well really really poor & my 20 mth old grandson had chicken nuggets & chips & the chips were so overcooked he couldn’t eat them infact the smell of the deep fryer was awful as well 😩 I think the chips were so dark the fat possibly needed changing by the smell coming from the kitchen , overall not a very good experience at all so I’m afraid will not be returning, I actually come away & wished I had made a complaint but stupidly paid the bill & left ( actually asked us to pay before we ate ) I very rarely leave reviews but I thought this needed it.

Went to watch the ladies football, the staff were so accommodating and friendly, great cheesy chips as well!

We visit at least a couple of times every time we visit the island, which is every year. Staff are great, beer is great, food is great and the locals are great also. What more could you ask for?!

Lovely pub and garden. Friendly team and good food. Live music in the garden alternate Saturdays until 4ish, who are really good too. Will definitely be back!

Lovely little local pub, we visited with the future in laws as they are moving close to it soon and really enjoyed it. Feels very welcoming. Looking forward to visiting alot over summer

Food was really bad under cooked mince would not recommend better off at mcdonalds

The staff were friendly and there was plenty of parking but the food was poor. I had the vegetation burger for just under £10. The burger patty was tiny, the bun was dry and there was no garnish, cheese or sauce. I was very disappointed. I'd be in no hurry to return.
