One of the best pizza I ever had

Great place. The food was lovely and service too, would definitely go back next time I am down in Plymouth.

I have to say that this Italian restaurant offered me much better Italian food than many restaurants in Italy, even though the boss is from Cyprus! Incredibly huge portions (a big plus!), good food, fast efficient service (the lady is very good!) and very good prices. No particular attention to decoration, not sophisticated at all, but who cares?

Simply great from start to finish,our whole party was very impressed. Lovely warm inviting welcome. Followed by friendly, fast efficient service. Then the best thing,a superb value 2 course lunch at £14.50.Very large portions,freshly prepared hot food, full of flavour,and cooked very well.With plenty of tempting choice. The bill for 7 of us with drinks was £137. Incredible value for money. We will definitely be returning on our next trip to Plymouth.

Visited today and glad we did. The restaurant has a nice chilled cosy feeling to it. The staff were very friendly and the service was quick too. My wife had the trio of fish and I had the pork marsala. We also both had the tomato and basil soup for starters. We loved our meals and so much taste to everything. I also ordered garlic bread to soak up the rest of the lovely sauce , no way I wasting that 😃 the roast potatoes that came with the meals was lovely too. Would definitely go back and everything was priced very well. Thanks

The moment we arrived the staff were friendly, professional and smiley . Nothing was too much trouble we were not rushed to order our food . This arrived hot and perfectly presented . The food was delicious and the portions large ! Well worth the £14.50 for 2 courses -£3 supplement charge for the fish I had which was AMAZING . Definitely recommend to others

6 of us visited here today. I have never been before but was very pleasantly surprised. The food was plentiful and we all enjoyed our dishes, cooked to perfection. The set menu was varied and very reasonably priced. The service was great, we felt no pressure to rush and our waiter was very attentive. I think we would all recommend a visit here, you won't be disappointed.

Busy place. Service was excellent and speedy. Considering the number of customers (Christmas), frontbof housec was a well-oiled machine. If you could score in between, it would have been 4.75.

After visiting the aquarium, headed to the barbican for food. Trattoria Capri can easily be overlooked with all the other eateries to choose from. No reservation made and was able to sit 8 of us easily. Drinks ordered, and brought to the table. Starter for some of us, either garlic mushrooms and chicken wings. Presently well, more on the plate than expected. Really good combination of flavours. Variety of mains ordered from pizza, pastas and salads and some sides of chips. All the food was impressive and tasty. Chips were a bonus, proper potato chips and not frozen, so we were very impressed. I don't normally make reviews, but we were a large group, celebrating a birthday (mixed ages of 16 to 76) and had walked in off the street. Our fun and happiness was not dampened and upbeat background music was played. Left overs were boxed up to be taken home. The service and the food was on point and would highly recommend Trattoria Capri. Thank you to all for making a lovely afternoon for us.

My first visit to Trattoria Capri with a very good friend with no complaints. The food was excellent and was well priced. The high backed seating gave a nice privacy feeling to the table. We were not constantly harassed by the waitress which was a great bonus. Time between each course was just right. Maddie and I will definitely be returning to eat here again. Many thanks to all the staff who made it such a memorable evening. Also loved the choice of music playlist.

Pleasantly surprised! Walked in with my partner and the waitress was really polite and gave us a nice table quickly. Ordered quickly, but not rushed. Food came quickly and was good, especially considering the price! We were more than happy to leave a tip as it's very good for the price.

The staff were exceptionally welcoming and friendly from the minute we walked through the door. The food was delicious and lots of it no matter what was ordered. The food was great but we found the owner quite rude. We had a large party arriving and he gave away our table that we had booked to other people and when we questioned about it he was very patronising. Our waitress was brilliant and tried to help with our issues, we did have to wait over an hour for our starters but the food was really nice.

I took a friend there for lunch today and was very disappointed. My friend ordered Bruschetta which came with soggy and burnt slices of baguette bread and slimy cooked tomatoes, the spinach cannelloni she ordered was so liquid and burnt at the top she had to eat with a spoon and couldn't eat much of it. I ordered seabass with potatoes and vegetables. I got very salty, overcooked seabass with far too much lemon juice that you couldn't taste the fish to know if it was seabass or not. I asked for boiled potatoes and vegetables and got oily sliced roasted new potatoes - the vegetables were really nice (they only had to boil them). There was only one person serving and he seemed stressed. The meal could not have been cooked by a trained chef or an Italian person. I don't like giving bad reviews, but it was not good at all. I guess I should have known from the price of 2 courses for £15 lunch menu that was pushed in front of us. Guess what!? I was so embarrassed when it came to paying with the man there with the card machine asking if I wanted to give a tip and I ended up giving them 10%. 🤣

Twice I visited this restaurant, and both times was well worth it. Excellent Italian food at such a reasonable price (a two lunch course at £15.99). The atmosphere was excellent, and the service was very friendly. Make sure you leave a good tip, as you won't be disappointed!

Fantastic food and service …… we hit it on a very busy Saturday night as walk in …….the owner found us a table and service was great …….food very traditional delicious Italian and to top it off very reasonably priced …….we loved it so much went back next night for dinner ……on our 2 night stay in Plymouth…….highly recommend

The food is very good, but I called at 9:15 PM to place an order that I would pick up myself, and the manager answered, telling me it was late and they were already closed. This, despite the fact that the restaurant closes at 10:00 PM! So either the schedule is not being followed, or the manager and staff were too tired for the day. Thank you anyway, but I’ll be ordering from somewhere else from now on!

Nice spot in The Barbican for some Italian pasta. Don't get the Italian vibes when sitting in, but the food gives you an idea how real italian pasta should taste or brings you back to Italy. Service is good, maybe a little too formal for the place, but they serve good coffee, so an extra plus for me!

Literally THE BEST food we’ve had outside of Italy. The pasta was absolutely delicious, the chicken Milanese was sooooo good and the spaghetti pomodoro to die for! Highly recommend this gem on a street full of places to eat .. lovely service and they fit us in on a busy Saturday night too. Yummy yummy in our tummies!

Great service and even better food. I had a crab linguine and it was superb. My wife had chicken in a cream sauce was was just as good. We had tiramisu for afters which was homemade and superb. Many options on the menu from what I saw all are good. The portions are quite large.

We arrived at 7:30pm and asked for a table for 2 as we didn’t book. We were not shown to our table but were told to sit in the corner. Once we took our seats we were left waiting 35 minutes before we were given menu’s and cutlery which we had to ask and wait for, and then waited a further 15 minutes for our drinks order to be taken. Once the drinks arrived we were rushed to place our food order. We had ordered a spaghetti carbonara each with 2 sides of garlic bread. After waiting over an hour for our food, and now almost 9pm, I politely asked the waitress how long our food was going to be as we had to leave within the next 10 minutes to make it to the train station, she instantly apologised and took our drinks off our bill and politely offered to box up the food for take away. Once we left we opened up our food to see that the carbonara had no toppings and no sauce! It was just plain spaghetti, and the garlic bread that we ordered was soggy! We’d like to contact to politely ask for a refund as our bill came to £34.

I had the lasagne, and it tasted like they had used cheap mince. The sauce was flavourless. Some of the party ordered pizza and had to send it back as it was under cooked. Everyone who ordered pizza had to ask for a pizza cutter so they could recut the pizza

Quick service, great Italian food.

We were looking forward to trying a new restaurant in a prime location in Plymouth. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a good experience. I tend to only leave positive reviews but the experience here was terrible. We walked in just after another couple and despite having a reservation we’re told to sit anywhere by a waitress who seemed disturbed by the fact customers were coming into the restaurant. For a Saturday evening it was very quiet. It took the waiter 20 minutes to give us a menu, and he said we should have alerted him to the fact no one had given a menu to us yet. I don’t think this is an issue that should have been passed on to the customer , especially when there were only 4 or 5 other tables occupied at the time. My partner ordered a pint but only a half pint turned up , although this was soon rectified. I ordered Arancini balls to start and they were cold in the middle. They were taken away and replaced but it was da shame that this needed to be done. We ordered a spaghetti carbonara and were disappointed to see it was made with cream. Carbonara has only four ingredients, pasta, egg yolks, pecorino and guancile, and the fact it was made with cream at this restaurant meant it was not authentic Italian food. The restaurant seemed focussed on large portions instead of tasty and flavoursome dishes. The restaurants website says “Our menu offers a fresh new approach to fine dining” however sadly there was nothing fine dining about this restaurant. The food lacked flavour and the service was lack lustre.

We are regulars to Capri. We often go before heading off to the football at Home Park. All of our visits have been really enjoyable with nice friendly staff and great food at good prices. All of the dishes are excellent and Capri is our first choice for Pizza and Pasta in Plymouth.

The food was absolutely amazing! Went in for our anniversary tonight and was not disappointed. First time visiting and we are already planning our next visit (partner is planning on trying the WHOLE menu). Staff were so lovely and friendly, nothing was to much trouble for them. Was really hungry so looked for somewhere local. Stumbled upon this place, wish I didn't. Fantastic staff, very welcoming. Decent atmosphere, but nothing about the food was good nor authentic Italian. The ingredients did not seem fresh. The portions were American sized. Carpaccio was drenched in vinegar and lemon, too thick and way too much rocket. Pasta had way too much oil, and tasted plain. I'd honestly recommend the owners to have a smaller menu and focus on strengthening their dishes.

We were in town for a weekend away and was recommended the restaurant by a friend, nayomee served us with the best smile and a great serve and also recommended us great food of the restaurant. Will definitely be back.

So good. We attended Saturday and Sunday for lunch. My mum commented best meal she's had in the UK and we've visited a few times! Faultless service thank you Isla:)) and food, very reasonably priced for such large portions.

I had an amazing experience last night. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was top-notch. Our server, Nayomi, was very attentive and made excellent recommendations. The ambiance was perfect for a relaxing evening out.

Restaurant was really nice, clean and well maintained. Had Brushetta (bit bland) but Pizza Dynamite was as nice a Pizza as I've ever had anywhere. Partner had same starter and Frutti De Mare which she said was lovely. Staff attentive and pleasant. Disappointingly staff allowed a couple to bring their dog in the Restaurant, not seen that before, so family next to them just had put up with it. The interior has lovely pictures etc with Italian theme (obviously) but background music ranged from Marc Bolan to the theme from Grease, not sure what happened there!!. Finally, if you look at menus and cost online before visiting, be aware the prices on the menu showing on website are a minimum of 20% more in reality. Overall, an ok experience but wouldn't go again for reasons mentioned.

Best Italian meal I've ever had!

One of the best meals I've had for years, everything was tasty and large portions. Staff were lovely and best cheese cake I've tasted. Will go every time I visit my daughter in uni!!

Didn’t get it right on this occasion the waiter was inundated and clearly understaffed and the food was well below the normal standard bruschetta was nothing more than chopped tomatoes on toasted French stick no leaves oil or balsamic my wife’s carbonara nad no pancetta and was tasteless compared to normal such a shame we normally rave about how good this place is 🤷‍♂️

We managed to get a table here on a Saturday evening in early September, no booking and it was pretty busy so we had an hour and a bit to order and eat. All the food was excellent, huge portions and very tasty, all delivered to our table very promptly by friendly and informative wait staff. The pizza I had was authentic Italian style, Spag bol was not just meat but had lots of veg in the sauce, lemon chicken was really good with great selection of stir fried veg, the seafood linguine also excellent.Highly recommended all round.

Italians, stay away from here! As much as possible! The menu out in the window sounds tempting but when they bring the dishes to your table you will understand that it is not Italian food made by Italian hands with quality ingredients. Obviously recipes literally Englishized but in the worst way! Even the head waiter (probably the owner of the place) claimed that these recipes are like this! It's like this in England. Zero professionalism! I should have understood it when I read Bolognese instead of the classic ragù! Arancini are something that look like meatballs with tomato souce and rocket on the top! Pizza. No comment. The bread. No comment. Sicilian pasta. No comment. Arancini. No comment. Cannelloni. No comment. Parmesan. No comment. Bill. NO COMMENT!!!!!! Italians stay away from here as much as possible! I made this big mistake!

Was so looking forward to eating in this restaurant but was so disappointed but I must say the two waitresses that were on duty were faultless! The same could not be said for the food, starter of garlic mushroom for me was so garlicky and salty, but the biggest disappointment was the Saltimbocca it was not lush and creamy but a salty brown sludge that was so salty you couldn’t taste anything else it was so bad I couldn’t eat it, when I spoke to the male member of the staff enquiring if he was the manager which he replied with yes I then said about the appalling food and his answer was “what do you want me to do about it” then walked off, at this point we left the waitress a £10 tip for having to deal with such bad food paid for our wine and left, we will never go back

It's the first time I've been here, oh why didn't I find it earlier!!! Fantastic pizza & a truly amazing cheesecake. This will now be a regular lunchtime venue for eating. Really great place.

Very welcoming and friendly service. We didn’t book a table but they were happy to accommodate us even on a busy Saturday evening. The food was exceptionally delicious in very generous portions. I’d recommend the Frutti di mare risotto. The risotto was perfectly cooked in a flavoursome stock loaded with plenty of fresh mixed seafood (lots of jumbo sized mussels). The seasoning was spot on (I especially like the spring onions as topping). Highly recommended if you’re around Plymouth and crave for an Italian meal.

Lovely atmosphere and polite friendly staff. Portion sizes were very large so bargain from the lunchtime menu deal.

Food was ok but nothing special, what upset us the most is being charged £37 for a bottle of Aldi wine. Once pointed out it got rectified but still nobody likes being made a fool.

The pizza wasn’t a good one. If you are used to Italian pizza try the pasta. The pasta was delicious. It was very busy when we stayed there so we had to wait a long time. But the staff was very kind and friendly. Prices are good for the size of the food.

Walked in as a group of 4 after 8pm on a Monday evening, and we knew we were pushing it as kitchens would want to close, but they set us up at the table and immediately offered drinks. We didn't feel at all rushed to order and the food was not only really tasty, but the portions were extremely generous. The staff here were lovely all evening and will definitely be going again.

Had an amazing brunch here with the family. Staff were so friendly and were excellent with our grandsons "demands". Portions were excellent and cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend if you are ever in Plymouth.

Have to give a shout out to this place, it was so good. Staff were friendly, gave recommendations on dishes (glad I listened. He was right). Starters of meatballs and melanzine came out very quickly, probably microwaved but not a problem as they were both tasty. Mains: husband has pasta in a tomatoey based sauce, which he was dead happy with and I had the garlic chicken. Oh my, I love garlic and this was really pungent and absolutely incredible! Reasonably priced, good pinot, great spot. We will definitely return.

I last went there a year ago and the food and service was impeccable. I went there today with my son and we did not go off the set lunch but the main menu. He had prawn cocktail which looked as if 7 defrosted shrimps or prawns had been thrown on a plate with Marie Rose sauce chucked on top sprinkled with paprika. Presentation dreadful. I had Carpaccio which is my favourite starter of all time and although the presentation was improved, it was not seasoned properly and drowning in shaved Parmesan or hard Italian cheese alternative. The beef was tasteless and very chewy. My son then had Spaghetti Bolognaise and had a large portion where the spaghetti was mixed with the sauce but the sauce did seem very watery. I had a chicken Caesar salad which was totally underwhelming I had 5 tiny chunks of chicken and four lardons, on a plate full of slightly curling salad leaves which had been once again drowned in shavings of Parmesan. My son had apple juice and I had a glass of wine and soda. Neither of us had deserts. The meal totalled £56 and has got to be one of the most appalling meals I have ever had in Plymouth. The staff were ok so against my better judgement I did give a 10% tip because I always feel for waiting staff and wages, but again did not do anything that made them stand out. I will not eat here, and will next time eat in the Pasta and Pizza Bar in the Barbican or The Village to ensure a basic good service across all items on the menu. I am very sad having had a good experience previously, when people are struggling to make ends meet and paying hard earned money to go out for a treat meal it is very disappointing when the meal falls so far short of satisfactory.

I had high hopes for this Italian restaurant, given the strong recommendations, but my recent visit was disappointing. The waiting times were excessive, starting with a long delay between being seated and having our drinks order taken. There was another significant wait before our food order was finally taken, making the experience frustrating from the start. It was difficult to get the waitress's attention, contributing to the slow service. When the bruschetta starter finally arrived, it was poor and had to be sent back. The child's meals were overly large, overwhelming them, which seems like a waste. The chips were also over cooked. The spaghetti meals we ordered all tasted the same, clearly using the same sauce with different ingredients added, lacking the variety and authenticity expected from an Italian menu. Additionally, the drinks we received were not cold, seemingly not refrigerated. The carbonara, however, received positive feedback from those who had it, which was a slight redeeming factor. The standout aspect of our visit was our waitress, Ayla, who was attentive and smiley despite the overall service issues. It's a shame to see the standards of this restaurant appear to have dropped in recent months. While Ayla's excellent service was a bright spot, it wasn't enough to compensate for the overall disappointing experience.

I ate here with two companions. With 2 of us (me including) eating a carbonara and another eating a pizza. The carbonara was passable at best, clearly not using authentic pancetta and the sauce off by many margins. Furthermore, the pizza was clearly made with an odd combination of various cheeses and was compared to that of a school dinner. Overall, would not recommend and there are plenty of better options in the surrounding area.

Our Second time here! Can't speak highly enough about our experience! Five of us spent Thursday 18th here and all had amazing meals and service! We were lucky enough to be able to spend a short while chatting to the wonderful waitress Sandra , what a good hard working and lovely person, who made our experience complete! would we go again ? We all can't wait to return !

Firstly I'd like to say the food was genuinely amazing, great size portions and delicious. However, and this is a big however we visited on a Thursday evening around 7.30 so granted it's a busy time but this does not excuse the over an hour and fithteen minute wait for our starter to come out and then another 40 mins for the main - especially as we saw other customers come in with bigger table sizes and the same size come in to the restaurant after us and leave before us. This could have been easily fixed with a complimentary drink whilst we waited or a starter taken off the bill - however this review will have to do.

I do recommend Trattoria Capri for decent Italian food in Plymouth. The servings were well worth for its price. The variety of food from starters, mains and desserts are all good. We will be back for sure!
