Shut & doesn’t look like the pictures so no idea what it’s like. Suggest you drive by before deciding as I cannot say it’s still in business

We found this lovely, friendly restaurant while on a short break in Southport. On the first night, we immediately booked for the rest of our stay (3 more nights). The menu was so good, and extensive, that we had plenty of variety. Everything was tasty, plentiful and served by fantastic friendly staff. We were made to feel so welcome and were sad to leave on our last night. Pizzas and pastas were great, crab ravioli was superb and the affogato for dessert was the best I’ve ever had. Really hope to be back if we’re in the area.

This is a great place to eat. The food was amazing. Really high quality. The service was really good too.

Dreadful service starters arrived piecemeal and were poor Beef rolls were dry and tastless pork chop for main even worse service was dire i took the srevice charge off the bill absolute shambles shame on you …More

Trattoria 51 is consistently delicious. Their food is fresh and clean, the staff are friendly and the service is excellent. The setting is fabulous, it’s glorious to sit outside when the sun is shining.

A lovely Italian restaurant that served delicious food. The atmosphere was relaxed. The staff were pleasant & attentive even though they were busy.

Well me n my lady had a date night in here it's a friendly restaurant the staff are very helpful and there food is really really nice thanks 👍

Poor and forgetful service and a lack of ambience compared to our last visits before lockdown . We were told they can't get staff due to brevity but I see that as a poor excuse. It was superb and we felt welcome. Won't go back.!

I sat in the under cover terrace on a wet and windy evening. When I asked about an alternative table I was readilly offered one with a heater. The staff were attentive throughout and every one of the three courses was excellent and well presented. Would definately go again when next in Southport.

We have been here tonight after seeing mixed reviews and I'll be honest, we loved it.Antipasti and fresh bread are absolute winners in this place.The staff were attentive, made sure we were ok, and were happy to chat with us.Reasonable prices and a great atmosphere.Would definitely recommend

Visited twice over last couple of weeks due to having a new kitchen fitted. Friendly and efficient welcome on arrival. Both evenings we ate outside as lovely warm evening. Tables well spaced and clean. Drinks service a bit slow however very friendly. 1st visit special menu available . The calamari was fabulous and mains also excellent. On our 2nd visit special menu not offered due to staff shortages but we still enjoyed our choices. We will return

Went for dinner with my husband. The restaurant were very accommodating to let us sit with family who had already booked as we were all visiting area for a wedding. The food was spot on! There was a large group of us and every plate was clean! I had the trattoria 51 which was king prawn linguine and it was fabulous. My husband and a spicy chicken dish a d really enjoyed it. Will be eat here again if in area again

I have visited this restaurant on three occasions in the last few months and have, prior to this occasion, enjoyed a pleasant meal, in pleasant surroundings. However, on Friday, I visited with my friends and was disappointed with portion size in relation to value, and the quality of the meat in the bolognaise. Normally, I wouldn’t write a review for something like this, but after paying the bill, I was horrified to watch one of the waiters toileting a small child (I’m assuming it was a family member) then leave the toilets without washing their own or the child’s hands!! When he saw me waiting at the door, he looked embarrassed and made up some rubbish about washing their hands in a different sink, but in all honestly, the damage was done!! Such poor basic hygiene, and in the middle of a pandemic!! I did try to contact the restaurant to raise the issue privately, but they have declined to respond to 2 emails. I would never eat here or recommend this restaurant again. Disgusting

Food was very nice in here. Would highly recommend, and also go back. Pasta was a highlight.!! Had a nice wine list too and deserts were magic.

Had a gorgeous Surf and Turf, amazingly cooked steak, food delicious, we loved the new outside area, we heard complaints about a forced service charge but each team member told us it could be removed every time they picked up the bill so it’s certainly not forced and we were happy to pay, only downside the team weren’t very talkative but that might be down to wearing masks and it was very cold in there as they had all the doors open on a chilly night due to covid, all covid measures were Fantastic thoughWill certainly returnThanks

My partner and I visited Trattoria 51 in Southport on Sat 12th June for the first time in several months and were very disappointed with the service! The food was good but the service was extremely poor. Our main course arrived before we’d had our starter and had to be taken away. After we finished our main course, no one came to clear the plates for ages and we weren’t offered a desert menu or more drinks, in fact, once we received our main course, it was as if our table didn’t exist! Waiters were more interested in the larger group tables and we were totally ignored, which was disappointing as we have been regular customers over recent years. This is a shame, as the food was as good as always. We’ve been to Trattoria on many previous occasions prior to COVID, and service has always been good so we’re trusting this was just a bad night for the service staff and normal service hopefully will return.

Some staff were friendly but we felt quite unwelcome by others, when we asked to sit inside because of the wind they didn't seem too happy with our request even though we had booked the table. Long long wait for drinks, to order food, and it even took 45 mins to get and pay the bill. The food was lovely when it arrived but the service let our visit down. We were very patient as we visited at the end of May so restrictions had been lifted only recently, but overall it took us 3 hours to have 2 courses for a table of 3 which was too long.

Had lunch here on a very busy Bank Holiday Monday, after walking past and noting how nice it looked.It was a red hot day, and we were seated outside. The seating outside is nicely set up, and creates a nice atmosphere.The wife and I both ordered creamy chicken penne pasta with a side of garlic bread with tomato and cheese.The food was brought out in a timely manner. It was very tasty and nicely presented.There are good covid measures in place too.There is a 10% service charge automatically added to the bill. But it does state this on the bottom of the menu.Would definitely eat here again if in Southport.

I have been in this place with friends and it’s been the worse experience ever! We had to wait 1 hour before to get the order and other 45 minutes, before to have our food ready! Also the food it wasn’t good . We ordered two pizzas and two pasta and both of them wasn’t nice ! We are Italian and this is everything except an Italian restaurant !Really disappointed! We will never go again !

We ate here at the bank holiday having heard good things about it. However unfortunately we were rather disappointed. It took over 30mins to get a drink and over an hour to get any food. The seats are hard and uncomfortable. People were smoking around us. The service was terrible and waiters unhelpful. My prawn starter was very over salted. The main courses were ok but spoiled by the fact that I had to go into the restaurant to try and get a drink. The bar was completely chaotic, covered in empty glasses and the bar man admitted there were major problems. We gave up trying to get a dessert.To cap it all off they tried to charge us for someone else’s drinks.Won’t be returning!

Never been here before, and it was our first meal out in nearly 2 years. Small family celebration for end of year 11 exams after covid. Staff were so attentive, friendly and welcoming. We had a member of our party arrive late, and the staff made sure their meal come out the same time as the rest. The food was gorgeous, we had lamb shank, pizza and sea bass. Everyone enjoyed every mouth full. Will definitely be going back to try a different meal.

Just popped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon whilst passing with my husband and two daughters (12 and 7). We sat outside under a heated lamp. I had the seafood pasta (probably the best I’ve ever had), my husband had the diavola pizza, eldest had the Carnivora pasta, and my youngest had meatball pasta from the Bambino menu. All very happy with our choices. Thank you.

So tonight After booking a reservation and travelling from Liverpool we got to the Resturant, upon entering I was asked were my mask was even though it is outside eating only, I showed the owner my exemption to which he replied get out you are not welcome to eat here, I had traveled with my mum who is unwell and never leaves the house after much persuading I got her to come and my step dad and 2 young daughters age 2 and 6, I asked why he then told me am not going by the rules even though I am exempt and everywhere person eating in that Resturant had no mask on, I asked him not to speak to me like that in front of my children who by this point my 6 year old became really distressed and suffers with anxiety, he then shouted at me and picked the phone up and threatens to call police what for I don’t no, my 6 year old then panicked and ran out into the road outside hysterical crying scared she could of been killed, I will never ever recommend eating in here with customer service like that, I will be taking this matter further with my legal team as this is very unacceptable and had traumatised my daughter.

My husband and I drove up to Southport from Manchester for the day and parked behind Southport Theatre (plenty of spaces). Trattoria 51 was not hard to miss from the roadside and it looked very busy, it also appeared the the perfect balance of safety ie: it was well sheltered, but still in the open. We were asked if we'd booked, which we hadn't, but nevertheless a table was found. We were both very hungry, so we ordered Garlic Bread to share, followed by a Caesar Salad for myself and Funghi Rissotto for my husband. Initially, I felt the period between courses was overly lengthy, until my husband's Rissotto arrived, and then it made sense why the waiting was worth it. Clearly, everything is cooked "fresh" and whilst my salad was extremely good, my husband's Mushroom Rissotto was truly the best he'd ever tasted and as I am half Italian, it would be obvious that we have dined at countless Italian restaurants. Great food, friendly service, value for money.......on my list !

Have used the ‘cook at home’ kit options twice now and both times excellent fresh ingredients and simple to cook tasty dishes. The Monseze pasta sauce is to die for. Pizzas great too. Highly recommended. Well done on adapting under current restrictions and offering either takeaway delivery or pick up. Will be back next week-end.

51 have gone the extra mile in keeping everyone safe during these troubled times and again as always quality Italian cuisine at it's very best.

Just had a great meal with my wife, very attentive friendly service....my wife loved her seafood special. All food was very tasty for both fish eaters and vegetarians.

Two adults two children had mains and a dessert, £85.Spaghetti carbonaraChicken and chips, 2 spag bolls, The extra service charges of £7.50 added may have been what bumped the price up, I don't mind tipping when it's my choice or even if I choose to do it, but we were charged extra for no extra service really, took order, dropped plates off and cleared up, basically what they are already getting paid for

Second time in here with partner and 7 year old, really family friendly venue and the food was excellent on both occasions. Will definitely return when we are next in Southport.

Always wanted to try here, still haven't been but had a takeaway from here instead. Was expecting better, was still nice but maybe the restaurant setting has more to offer. After covid will give it a 2nd chance and try table service instead.

We had a relatively early dinner and the place was full. Less than an hour later it was empty so people appeared to be taking advantage of the cheaper early evening menu.The owners seemed to be taking all appropriate Covid precautions but seemed to think that taking a reading of forehead skin temperature with an infra-red thermometer was worthwhile (it isn't of any clinical value whatsoever - it's a gimmick. Ask any doctor).Our meals varied quite markedly with one person saying that their pasta dish was the best they had ever tasted whereas my pizza was utterly bland with a rather thick chewy base.One of our group was up all the following night with diarrhoea.The prices are certainly on the steep side for what seems to be run of the mill dining.

Well done Trattoria 51 for keeping both customers and staff safe, and free to enjoy your lovely food. I attended last night and safety measures such as temperature checks, one way flow of customers, regular hand sanitiser points and staff in masks/visors were all in place. Very reassuring. Pizzas were great with a reasonably priced bottle of red to accompany. Would highly recommend.

Wow..this is superb for Italian food..on the pricey side but definitely worth it. Service was excellent and the quality of the food was very good

Was told we had to sit outside as there was no space inside, which turned out to be incorrect. Were then told to 'shush' when singing Happy Birthday!!! Felt like we were an inconvenience to them, which is rather sad as we have eaten there many times. Wont be going back!

Table was dreadful by the front entrance the staff left the door open so there was a terrible draft. Alot of people had coats and jackets on obviously because it was too cold. The food was bland and not seasoned. The worst thing of it all is that the staff kept hovering over you waiting for you to finish. Rushing you when you are choosing what you want off the menu. Very rude. In the end my partner said ok take it away as the waiter just kept hovering over him waiting for him to finish. They put a £7 gratitude charge on the bill which we obviously didnt pay. Such a shame as the liverpool old hall street is absolutely lovely. Staff so nice and amazing food.

Such a great experience dinning at Trattoria 51✅. Haven't eaten out since the Pandemic started and have not visited here before.Staff all wore protective face masks. We were temperature checked on entry and asked to use hand sanitizer. Felt very safe.Food was delicious. Lasagne main. Chicken and mushroom pasta. Pepperoni pizza and beefburger.Ate outside in lovely surroundings. Both kids asked when we will come back. Will return.

There are some really good things about this restaurant. Firstly, the COVID security felt very good. All staff in visors or wearing masks properly. Tables nicely spaced, hand gel available, etc.The setting is very nice. We sat on the terrace and it felt very continental, nice atmosphere/buzz. Attentive waiter.The food is mixed. Nice starters and puddings, nice bottle of Sicilian wine. Pizzas were truly awful. I ordered a chicken and pepperoni-8small slices of pepperonis and 3 bits of dried chicken. The pizza itself was plasticky and definitely not made on premise (too uniform). Not what I’d expect from an Italian. The pasta dishes looked a lot better. All in all a bit mixed. Will come again, but won’t eat the pizza next time.

My husband's parents were supposed to be taking our daughter to Southport for a few days but when one of time fell ill, we took her for the day instead. They had booked this restaurant already so we kept it and decided to see how it was. I'm could not have been a better choice. Italian is never by first choice as I usually find the menus restricted but there was so much choice here. Luigi was very attentive, charming and helpful in deciding which dishes to choose. Nothing was too much trouble. Our booking was for 5pm and the restaurant had only just opened for the evening service and this was evident everywhere. Everywhere was spotlessly clean, but back to the food. Every dish we chose was delicious, meatball starter, caprese salad, the chorizo pasta, pollo funghi and lasagna for the little one. Torte Della nonna, chocolate brownie and Luigi's recommendation zuccotto panettone for desert .... To die for. Coffees, soft drinks and a glass of wine. Only £52 all in on the eat out to help out scheme (and that included the tip!) Would not hesitate to go back again, in fact we're already planning it!! Keep up the good work.

Visited for dinner, sitting outside -- lovely on a warm evening. The waiters were very welcoming, but service was slow, with pizzas taking over 30 mins to arrive. Moreover, pizzas were not great quality... more like 'Pizza Hut' than a traditional Italian pizzeria. Prices were reasonable but the toppings were sparse and they even charged extra for a couple leaves of basil my daughter requested to be added on her pizza. I wouldn't recommend.

Very busy when we arrived and we had to wait 10 minutes for table we booked, soo glad we waited though. Food was excellent, service was good, if a little slow at times, but all meals came out together, food was hot and tasted great.

Visited the restaurant on 1/8/20 but the weather wasn’t that good so the guy was reluctant to let us sit inside.The starters were ok but when order mains I ordered beef stroganoff with rice when the meal arrived the beef and mushrooms were fine but the so called steamed rice was not very nice it was completely solid and could not be broken down to eat, it looked like it had been cooked before and left and reheat.We mentioned this to waitress when paying the bill but she just said sorry.Not very good customer service

We came here whilst visiting the area on a sunny day. We had changed the booking last minute to 4 people instead of 2, which they were very accommodating for. We were seated on the terrace which was gorgeous. We ordered 3 starters and 1 main to share with wine and beers and can honestly say every single bite was heaven. We haven't had Italian this good since being in Florence. Thank you so very much to all the kind staff, Luigi was attentive to our every need and had real charm and truly cared about his customers. Would highly recommend going out of your way to book this restaurant, was reasonable prices and excellent food and service. COVID safe, temp checks on way in and high level of cleanliness and sanitary service.

Ate early with my wife and two year old daughter whilst on holiday - looking to be in and out before bed time.Pre-booked food as requested, bread player to "start" (i.e. keep my daughter entertained until real food arrives) and then just mains.Pizza tasted really great, better than it looked. Pasta dish also really tasty. A side of chips were also very nice.Inside the restaurant had a nice family feel, it felt like a local neighborhood restaurant. A good outside area as well.But everything was a bit slow. Had to ask to order drinks. Then bread was 20 mins after arrival, asked for mains to immediately come, another 30 mins wait. If just me and my wife not so much of an issue but we ran out of things to entertain my daughter. Given that we pre ordered and were eating early it grated. I then spent ten minutes waiting for a credit card machine and to ask for it twice. I would go again but would allow more time - it's a challenge to be in and out within 2 hours I think.

We had a lovely meal here to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The restaurant was totally geared up to be COVID compliant, temperature taken on entry, everything sanitised and staff fully protected with face shields. Tables were very spaced out and we generally felt very safe. The food was excellent. Would definitely recommend it.

I ordered a takeaway via Deliveroo last night from Trattoria 51. - The food was fabulous. Beautiful pizza, gorgeous pasta and a really lovely starter too. With some chilled Italian wine, it was just like being in Italy. Thank you so much Trattoria 51. I haven't been to the restaurant yet, but I'm so looking forward to going there, when you open again after the lockdown.

We have been waiting for this day since lockdown began and it was well worth it. Congratulations to all the staff on producing restaurant quality food as a takeaway it was amazing as always. We will be back soon. Stay safe too all.

With the lockdown our family has been missing our trips to Trattoria 51 , but tonight they opened for takeaway 😋 We ordered our usual starters and favourite main courses and not disappointed. All delicious . Highly recommended for your Italian food fix

My husband and I enjoyed an evening with our friends at this restaurant yesterday.It was our first visit to the restaurant in years and the first time that our friends have visited it.The atmosphere was excellent, service was really good with friendly staff and the food was amazing.The calamare was the best that my husband has ever tasted. The fresh fish was wonderful. The choice on the menu was wide. We were spoilt for choice! We will have no hesitation in returning.

We have visited here a few times for different occasions as it is a real treat here. Our last visit was for my partners birthday. The food was delicious and the service as always was friendly and efficient. You can tell the staff really enjoy their jobs. It’s a lovely atmosphere. Can’t wait for our next special occasion!

We ate here on Sunday it was extremely busy so we thought that we have to wait a while but service was quick, food was lovely couldn’t fault it staff very friendly also would definitely recommend.

Stayed at the Bliss hotel across the road as the weather was horrible (storm Dennis ) we had spent the afternoon in the smallest pub in Britain then decided to go to trattoria 51and had a very enjoyable evening meal highly recommend this restaurant .

Had my first visit to Trarroria 51 after many recommendations. Very busy and a good atmosphere. Warm friendly welcome but struggles a bit with service as was very busy. First drink order we had to wait a long time to order. After that service much better and good. Great menu with lots of choice and a good specials menu. Food to be honest was ok but not great. Also we were sat at the back and the restaurant needs some tlc as looks a bit worn in parts. Would try again!

We had booked in the Bliss Hotel in Southport for two night visit on relocating business. We had only booked bed & breakfast so obviously needed to venture into Southport for an evening meal.We looked on Tripadvisor for the top rated places and noted an Italian place just across from the hotel which had very good recommendations.We was not disappointed, it was fairly quiet for a weekday night (Thursday) a group of around 10 arrived later on.We received very attentive service from start to finish by both the waitresses.One of them in particular was very knowledgable in the food and wine they offered, which I must add was very varied and interesting going above and beyond the bog standard Italian dishes .For people who like bog standard Italian dishes this is not a criticism, they do offer these dishes on their menu too but Im just saying they have some lovely unusual dishes to try as well.I had the goats cheese and sun dried tomato ravioli and my partner had a king prawn pasta with courgettes and spices.The portion sizes were generous and the presentation was excellent along with the cooking. The waitress listened to what type of wines we like to drink and on her recommendation suggested a bottle of red which we absolutely loved.We can most definitely recommend this little gem of a place for its food and attentive nature of the staff, it’s most certainly has a warm and inviting feel about it and will we will return.

Ate here while staying at the Bliss Hotel which is across the road. Authentic. Great service. Food was lovely. Calamaris and pasta dishes. Too full to have coffee and ice cream. Proper ice cream counter. Nice busy vibe. Reasonable prices.

Amazing venue just across the road from the theatre so very hand for pre or post dining. Menu is quite expansive and doesn't disappoint. My guests said the lasagne was the best they had ever tasted so high praise

Visited with my son and the restaurant is warm and inviting, the staff are extremely welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The menu is varied and the food is presented beautifully with ample portions of excellent quality!!

Came with daughter and her boyfriend, booked last minute and not too busy, probably because it was between Christmas and New Year. We all had pizza and some sides and nothing to complain about at all. Didn't try dessert as on a short time frame, but would recommend, pleasant staff, surroundings and food. Worth a visit if in the area

Never been here as yet, so first time. Came here for a work team meal. The starters was fabulous, loads of mixture of small bites. I had the Beef Stroganoff it was delicious, forgot to take a picture before I tucked into it , I had my favourite italian desert, the Tiramisu, it was made different, was expecting it to be in a square shape lol.

Visited here last night with some friends for my 30th birthday and it was absolutely amazing.

Enjoyed the food and a very handy location for attending the theatre/conference centre. We sat on the outside terrace as we had a dog with us.

First time in this restaurant, mid week, had booked for 7.00. Quite busy, but only 2 staff members rushing around with drinks and meals made it a very slow night - almost 2 hours for a drinks order, a main meal order and coffee.

We were going to a show at the waterfront and this restaurant is opposite and is ideal location, there is a good selection of meals and wine, we have eaten there before and we enjoyed it just as much, will definitely go again

Visited here as a group of 5 before a theatre visit; the theatre is literally over the road, so it’s in an excellent position.

Absolute delight of a restaurant very good lasagna very friendly attentive staff quick service and top quality food. Would defiantly return.

Pretty decent although not spectacular. I was actually pretty disappointed with my chicken dish, although my meatball starter was nice. The service was actually quite poor, our mains came out with an almost 5 minute gap between the first and last dish for our group of 5.

We were a party of 17 and the food and service were excellent. The antipasta was very generous with meatballs, pizza, breads etc. All of the main courses were very large portions - mine was chicken which was too much after the very large starter!

The hospitality and service from each member of the team was marvellous. The food was excellent. A huge thank you to all the staff for looking after the old golfers from Northampton.

Went here last night with my partner , iv given 4 stars for the food , was really nice , however the girl who sat us down was really rude , felt like she thought she was too good for us , everyone round us was getting asked if everything was ok but didn’t come over to us once , couldn’t wait to get out of there to be honest !!! Shame as the food was lovely .....

Best Italian food in Southport, family run with a warm Italian welcome and you’ll never leave hungry. Good variation in the menu and very fairly priced . Love this place 👍

Excellent service always and plenty on the menu to choose from. If you have been to a show you will have no need to get a taxi as you can see the restaurant across the road as you emerge from the theatre.

Great menu, all food was very well prepared, we ate there several times and it was enjoyed by all. Family run and very welcoming.

Went there twice it was so good, pasta one night and pizza the other. Told other folks in the group and they went and had the same positive experience.

What can I say. Trattoria 51 deserves it's good reviews. Great food at a fair price. A varied menu with something for all tastes. Everything beautifully cooked. We will definitely be eating here again

Having been regulars in the Liverpool Old Hall st restaurant it was nice to get the same great service and food here in Southport. Great to see Tony too Hearing they are opening site no3 too which is great

Restaurant was half empty when we arrived on a Sunday. No Sunday menu available, only main a la carte. 2 main courses were sent back as cold. 1 main course didn’t get eaten as did not taste good at all. To be fair, this meal was not charged for. Portions were tiny for the price charged. The ambiance consisted of waiters shouting at each other across the restaurant in Italian. It seemed like one disagreed with what the other was or was not doing? Not a place I would want to return to in a hurry.

Very happy with all our meals and would return without a doubt. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The decor is modern and clean.

This whole dining experience felt as if we had wandered off into an episode of Fawtly Towers with Basil at front of house.

Visited with my son today and this is one of the nicest Italian restaurants we have ever been to.

Visit here every so often, the menu offers a good variety (I think), the prices are reasonable and all the staff we have encountered so far have been friendly. My only gripe is that the pizza dough is frequently tough - it's very hard to cut and sometimes eat, especially the crusts. This is a shame as they offer some really good variations of pizza where the toppings are nice but the base and crusts spoil it. They offer a nice choice of desserts here and this is one of the reasons why we frequent here.

After giving this one a miss for a while after shocking service and good not too good we tried it again . What a difference . Great service lovely staff and food to die for . New chef i think . Thank you . Will return and will recommend .

Had a lovely meal dining alfresco, a lovely meal with a great atmosphere, food and wine was delightful

First time visit to this establishment which is very pleasant in every area. Drinks were served on arrival and we asked what time we should order the food to be out by 7 15 as we had theatre tickets just across the road. Recommended we order at 6.15 as the food would take about ten minutes so the order was taken at 6.20. First two dishes ( amazingly tasty lasagne) came at 6.55, next dish at 7.00pm with final dish a few minutes later. Food excellent but had to be rushed because of time constraints and the bill took forever so we didn't get out until 7.33 with one left behind to finalise.

Everything, from the service to the food is first class. The staff really care about your experience at their restaurent. Quality food and very reasonably priced....bonus sitting outside if the weather allows.

large portions good quality ingredients- the pizza was amazing however the pasta lacked a bit of flavour- nothing pepper and chilli flakes could not sort though
