Our favourite Thai Restaurant that we always go to when we are down this way on holiday. An unexpected gem!

Great service and beautiful Thai food. Not cheap but well worth it. Take aways also available. Good atmosphere. Book in the busy season.

Just had another amazing takeaway from the restaurant. An absolute must when visiting Dulverton. Always had a brilliant meal.

Table for 2 booked for a Thursday night at the end of September. The restaurant was fully booked. Complimentary Thai crackers to start. We had the mixed starters followed by 2 mains, 2 rice and a side of noodles, with 2 rounds of beer and wine, the bill came to £75 plus service. I think that’s a very fair price for the quality of the food. The food was absolutely exquisite and an explosion of flavour. Service was also very good on what was a busy evening for the one young lady looking after all the tables. I had the opportunity to chat to the chef (owner?) Robert on a couple of occasions, a very polite and well spoken gentleman. We were visiting the area from the nearby caravan site and will definitely visit again.

We wanted a takeaway to celebrate our Anniversary, we were not disappointed at all. We were able to book and pay over the phone, and walk around and collect from our campsite. The food was exceptional and taste delicious. Beautiful presentation even though it was takeaway. They also catered for gluten intolerance too. Thank you

We didn’t expect to find such an exceptional restaurant in a little town on Exmoor- fantastic freshly cooked food, huge choice, peaceful atmosphere, lovely decor, fresh flowers and such gracious staff- a really lovely evening out - thank you!

We have been a few times when on holiday and this place has always pleased and has just got better and better. Our recent visit was superb. We sat outside in a beautiful outdoor courtyard and were treated to excellent service from the two friendly local girls who served us with the excellent food which I can honestly describe as perfection and certainly the best i have tasred outside of Thailand. If you can find it give this place a go, you will not be dissapointed

I was very disappointed when I entered tong Dam Thai restaurant as I was very disturbed by the shouting and swearing from the kitchen and staff arguing in front of customers very disappointing experience. With all the good reviews I was expecting a good experience and I did not receive that Personally, I will not be returning and do not recommend as very inappropriate for staff to be arguing in kitchen Regards Ella

Wow! What an absolute hidden little gem… the restaurant was quaint and cosy, beautifully laid out with extremely friendly hosts… that was first impression, then, things got even better.. the food was out of this world, presented beautifully and packed full of flavours. Couldn’t recommend this restaurant any higher… go pay a visit you will not be disappointed! Thankyou tongdam for the most pleasant evening.

We just had a fabulous meal at Tongdam. The menu is extensive and we finally made our choices, the food was amazing. The young 2 front of house staff were very busy but managed to still provide excellent and friendly service. We would highly recommend this Thai restaurant. 😍

Bad Experience We ordered TONGDAM’S PLATTER (for two) "A selection of : Satay Kai, Poh Pia Thod, Thodmun Pla, Goong Hom Pha and Thung Thong, accompanied by our sweet chili and peanut sauces." "It tasted to me as though it was pre made by a catering company (meaning it didn't taste freshly made in their kitchen) - when we asked we were told it was all freshly made here !! It certainly tasted to me like it was bought in - the packet opened then put in a fryer/microwave!! It was dissappointing and tastless to us. Tesco/M&S do better. Mains - Phad Thai Noodles - chicken - fried rice - Ped Lao Dang - Duck in thai herbs and spices ect ect - The duck was grey in colour and certainly didn't look or taste to us fresh!! The Phad Thai was inedible infact we thought it was horrendous!. It had a strange egg net laid over it, like a soggy web!! Lastly the fried rice we ordered was not fried rice it was boiled - by that stage who cares!!! We ordered a bottle of wine which was fine. We asked the waiter again if the food was all freshly cooked here and he told us it was - Amazing there are over 200 meals offered on the menu - some kitchen!! We paid and left never to return!! To my surprise I got a call out of the blue from the owner two days later. (I am not convinced that he was entitled under GDPR to use the number recorded for us on the reservation for purposes other than reservations but that is a different matter) I was at work with customers waiting to be served. I immediately felt as though I was being told off and spent as long as I could explaining myself and trying to justify my opinions only to be told I was wrong. As he would not listen to what I had to say I eventually had to say I was going and put the phone down. I run a number of small businesses and to me complaints are a gift not something to try to talk your way out of. The upshot is that if the food was freshly made and freshly cooked that day, it did not taste like it to me and I did not enjoy it. I have spent a lot of time in Thailand and eaten at great Thai restaurants so am not unfamilar with Thai food. I believe I did the right thing by telling the waiter, when asked, my honest opinion and paying my bill in full to prove that I was not just after a discount.

We were very lucky to get a table last minute, recommend booking ahead. Cosy and friendly restaurant with DELICIOUS Thai food and attentive service. Highly recommend the spring rolls and the Lamb curry. Best food we have had in Devon/Exmoor area in a long time.

Lovley little Gem in Dulverton. Very personalized service, attending to my Partner's Garlic and Onion allergy, the chef came out himself to talk to us. Very understanding and very detailed knowledge of his dishes. Very kind server, was on his own, but managed very well, attentive but didn't hover or intrude. Would recommend to any Thai food lovers! And anyone who wants to try!

If you ever find yourself visiting/staying in or near Dulverton please don't miss the opportunity to visit Tongdam Thai Restaurant. The food was delicious, really good quality and beautifully presented. The service was excellent and friendly. A real hidden gem of a place in the heart of Exmoor. Will definitely be making a return visit next time we're in the area.

They may or may not be open, don't just look at their published opening times, call first to save possible disappointment. Not terribly impressed.

What an amazing restaurant! We don't really eat a lot of Thai, for no particular reason, so we thought it would be a nice change when a friend suggested going. Everything was spot on, from the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff to the presentation and quality of the food. The flavours were absolutely amazing. We will definitely be eating there again.

A rainy evening in Dulverton. Staff chatty and helpful without being overbearing. Advice was given relating to our menu selection. A really nice touch was the ‘little something’ for my wife’s birthday, which ensured a memorable visit. Well presented Thai food which looked great and tasted equally as good. We eat there this evening, we were lucky to get in, this is not a large restaurant so we booked ahead. The food was amazing, right up there with the best Thai food we have had. The service was also excellent a great evening. Highly Recomended.

What an amazing little gem of a restaurant. We were running late and didn't get there until after 9pm and it was no problem at all. They had our table set and we had food and sake on the table very quickly. We had a selection of appetisers including one of the soups and they were all amazing. Garlic Shrimp starter is to die for and the chicken satay with peanut sauce is heavenly. Deep fried veg plate a must. Then we had a selection of mains and they were all 10 out of 10s. The fish is beyond great! Didn't get the tall slim waiters name but he was very professional, attentive and fast. 10 Stars for you too buddy. Will be back with more friends! TOTALLY RECOMMENDED

An intimate little restaurant, tucked away in a courtyard off of the High Street in Dulverton. The menu is very large and caters for all tastes. We are vegetarian, but there is also a separate vegan menu too, which is what we chose from. The food is out of this world! We had three courses and each was full of incredible flavours and served hot! The serving staff were intelligent and very friendly and helpful and we had a great meal. Booking seems to be essential, as it got quite full during the evening. Take-away business was brisk too, but despite this, we weren't left waiting for extremely long breaks between courses. VERY highly recommended and we will certainly go back again!

Blissful, peaceful lunch, outside under a vine, with family. The service was friendly, attentive but never intrusive. Food was excellent, extensive menu and dishes helpfully rated for spiciness. the ice cream with real ginger was great!

Delicious food, wide variety of choices, we loved every course and it was all very good value for money. We visited as a couple while on a short stay in Dulverton, which is a very pleasant little stopover. This restaurant was a surprising but very welcome discovery, tucked away off the Main Street but with oodles of character. The menu is mouth watering and the dishes met their expectation, and some. Fresh ingredients, beautifully cooked and presented, this was an experience, not just a meal. The restaurant team were friendly and attentive. We particularly liked the way that their story was written into the pages of the menu. The location has an authentic and special atmosphere, not very big but fresh and classy. I really recommend this restaurant.

Lovely small restaurant and excellent friendly service. Asked for advice on ingredients of a dish and chef suggested an alternative. Complimentary Thai crackers were very tasty and had the best local trout that I have ever had. Loved reading the history of the owners and restaurant in the front of the menu. Definitely recommended and will be back on next visit to Dulverton.

What a lovely place! Greeted by our friendly host and seated very happily at a nice table, drinks while we perused the menu with Thai prawn crackers. Started with Tongdam platter for two. Amazing! 5 pieces each served with satay and sweet chilli sauces. Then priewwarn kai (sticky sweet and sour), kai gratitude (signature dish lots of garlicand oyster and soya sauce) king prawn phad Thai and steamed jasmine rice. No MG is used, everything very fresh. They also have an extensive vegan menu. We will certainly be visiting again!

Amazing such a wonderful meal 3 meat eaters and 1 vegetarian-they even brought me my own crackers. The food was excellent. The 2 young waiting staff - Chester the young man and a lovely young lady (didn’t catch her name) were exemplary. Owners and their parents should be very proud of them. Well done all.

Food fantastic we really couldn't fault it. Freshly made and beautifully presented. Owner very pleasant and young man front of house was polite and helpful. The venue was gorgeous with interesting decor and paintings. Will definitely be going back. A big bonus for us was that it was dog friendly.

We were made to feel welcome the minute that we walked through the door. The waitress was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. We ordered all 3 courses and could not fault anything. The food was fragrant, fresh and beautifully presented and the meat was so tender that it simply melted in the mouth. While we were there a couple came in to enquire about a takeaway and the chef came out of the kitchen to help due to allergies. We would definitely recommend a visit to this restaurant to get a truly wonderful dining experience. We wished that we lived closer as this would soon become our 'go to' place to simply relax, unwind and enjoy the sumptuous flavours that we experienced

We had a lovely meal at Tongdam yesterday. Staff were all really friendly and helpful, in particular helping us to pick dishes that were suitable for someone severely allergic to fish, shellfish, and peanuts, up to and including adapting a dish slightly to remove or substitute ingredients. Full vegan menu was also unusual but a welcome surprise! Food was delicious, especially the green and the massaman curries. Portions were generous and reasonably priced. Thanks to Robert in particular for coming out of the kitchen to talk to us about allergies and ensuring we felt comfortable with what we were ordering. Will definitely be back whenever we're next in the area!!

We went here at the beginning of March and were blown away by the food we were served ... fabulous flavours in every mouthful, and all served with knowledge and great attention. We both felt that this was the best meal out that we had ever had!! And I was delighted to have been able to take my nervous little rescue dog in with me - she gets so anxious if she has to be left in the car, so that was a huge and unexpected bonus!! No doubt I will return with the same and other friends too! Thank you for a great evening, Tongdam!!

Went for a birthday meal here last week. Table of four of us, so we chose the Set Menu for four. There was more than enough choice of amazing dishes. Would thoroughly recommend going here for a lovely meal.

You must book ahead for this lovely small restaurant. Deliciously home cooked Thai food. Lovely helpful staff. We shared a starter and then had one main meet dish and a main vegetable dish as we don’t eat loads and it was plenty of food.

We were staying a mile up the road on holiday and picked up a takeaway from here on our first night. It was so good that we got it again on our last night! And when I say good, I mean phenomenal. Probably the best Thai takeaway I've ever had, and up there with some of the best takeaway I've had. I had the Phad Ped Gae - it was colourful, full of flavour, and the quality of the slow cooked lamb was just perfect. I also tried bits of everyone else's, and without exception, they were delicious. Also worth mentioning the wonderfully friendly and helpful service, and the excellent packaging (with a cling film extra wrap to prevent leakage) and clearly labelled dishes. What a fantastic find this place was. A gem in an unexpected location.

OK-ish. You can't expect much from a Thai restaurant in rural Devon, and we didn't, so luckily we weren't disappointed. Food is good but simple. Small option of fried mushrooms for our 21 mo son was disgusting to be honest, mushrooms had no flavour and were dripped in so much batter even a Scotsman would give it a pass.

An exceptional dining experience as ever! The vegan food is truly exquisite. The service and all round ambiance is very warm and welcoming. The restaurant accepts cash which I believe is very important in this day and age. We will be back soon!

Lovely authentic Thai Food! Interior is cute and you do get that feeling your eating in an authentic Asian restaurant. I had the vegetable spring rolls for starter and the chunky in-house made chips, chicken and jasmine egg rice. The biggest thing for me that really bothered me was the fact that the poor wee server was having to run back and forth to the door to lock and unlock it every time someone came for their dinner (booked, I never seen any walk ins...because you can't just walk in) and we were sat just near the door. Seemed very odd given the restrictions are lifting? And also a little humiliating for the server and paying customers. Imagine having to knock on the door to get into a Restaurant? Never seen anything like it. I suggest you get rid of this rule and allow free movement in and out of an unlocked door. Yes it's a small place and you might be concerned of "COVID", but many/all businesses are just dealing with it now. Not by locking their doors and having staff answer it anytime someone wants in for a booked table or not and takeaway. Good food, nice staff and shame about the rules.

We arrived on Monday afternoon for a 3 night stay at the CAMC. We had eaten a late lunch and about 6pm decided to go for a walk in the town. Having eaten at the Tongdam in 2019 we hoped to go again during our stay. As it happens they close now on both Tuesdays and Wednesdays so our only option would be that night even though we were not really hungry but we really did not want to miss out. Millie (sp?)was able to offer us a table and we just had a main dish each. It was very busy but the lovely lady took it all in her stride. She is due to go travelling soon and I am sure that both Robert and Tino will miss her front of house professionalism greatly. Do not miss this lovely gem when visiting Dulverton and/or the area.

We zijn hier in 2016 geweest en besloten na de eerste kennismaking direct ook te reserveren voor de volgende avond én de daarop volgende avond. Nu in 2022 zijn we weer in Exmoor, dus ook in Tongdam. We keken er op voorhand vanuit Nederland al naar uit !!! Ook nu gisteren weer fantastisch gegeten en ook nu weer op herhaling vanavond. Service and food were both top notch! I had the Pad Thai with prawns and it was all very fresh and delicious.

We came for lunch on Easter Sunday and had such a lovely experience. The flavour in all of the dishes was delicious and so well put together. Robert and Tino are the most hospitable hosts. We all left with warmth in our hearts and smiles on our faces. Would thoroughly recommend. Don't miss out!
