Went in Alcombe fish bar yesterday, hadn't visited in many years due to not being in the area. Food was absolutely first class, all cooked fresh so hadn't been sitting in the range for an hour. Cod was freshest I have ever had, no ammonia smell that I get here in the midlands. I'm sure it is still the same family run take away from 40 years back. Hard to think of any fish and chips I've had that beat the food here. Top quality. Looking forward to next time.

Lovely little Fish and Chip bar, situated just off the main road. Good prices, portions not overly generous but food tasty!!

Unfortunately when we came to eat our food, having driven a good distance away, it was wrong. We ordered haddock, the more expensive option, for all our meals, but were given cod. The chips were very unpleasant tasting, it tasted like very old oil and the curry sauce was a thick, mushy disaster. Very friendly, but will not go back again.

Excellent little fish and chip shop we found whilst away for a couple of days over Easter. Service was excellent. Definitely one for the locals as it's tucked away up a one way street with very little parking available. Food was fantastic and cooked freshly to order. The quality of the large cod was amazing. My wife had the fish bites and there was plenty to share with the pups. One amazing place well worth a revisit.

Award winning fish and chip? This is very questionable… this portion of chips is supposedly a regular, the battered sausage on the verge of overcooked, the curry sauce thick and cold, I’m appalled and not happy.

Stayed at nearby Premier Inn while visiting the area. Very handy fish and chip shop. Lovely, cooked to order, freshly fried. Seemed popular with locals too, several came and received a familiar welcome!

My wife and I come here fairly frequently when having to visit Minehead. The quality of the fish and chips is always top notch. It’s also very good value especially on pensioner special lunchtimes! Very friendly people too. Good range of soft drinks too.

Have used this place a few times now and the food is absolutely beautiful! Staff are extremely friendly and the prices are fantastic! Lots of vegetarian and even vegan options too that the other local chippy doesn't have.

Having moved to the area fairly recently I was introduced to this little gem by a family member - and can now understand why the locals try to keep it hush, hush about this place and reserve it for themselves. Hidden up a small side street in Alcombe, well away from the seafront, is this old fashioned fish and chip shop.......Old fashioned in that it is family run and gives a kind and friendly welcome to all the customers and perfect service (Quite rare to find these days). Everything is freshly cooked while you wait (No stale fish that's been under the heat for hours). The premises are immaculately clean, there is a very good choice of items on the menu, and the quality is excellent, tasty, and a delight to eat. Downside is that parking can be a bit awkward when busy - but you can't have everything. However, I would not consider going anywhere else as this place truly is the best.

At the age of 66, I’ve just eaten the best fish and chips of my life. Parking was a little bit tricky but absolutely worth the effort. Perfect.

I was working in Minehead, and was struggling to find anywhere to park near the fish and chip shops on the seafront. I gave up after a while and decided to head back home. On my way out of Minehead, I happened to spot a small sign on the corner of a building on the road, pointing to the direction of Alcombe Fish Bar. What an absolutely perfect chippy. The guys there were so nice and pleasant, and we had a lovely chat. I left with my cod and chips, and found a suitable spot to tuck. Bloomin’ lovely, or as I usually say ‘guuuuurt lush’ 10/10 Would highly recommend this great little hidden gem 😍

Just had fish and chips from Alcombe Fish Bar and it was lovely. We had fish and chips x 2 and a small fish and chips for my 2 year old with curry sauce and mushy peas. We are on holiday at Butlins and drove 7 mins to the fish bar. Well worth it. The people that work there were very welcoming and friendly. Definitely visit if you are in Minehead.

Just down the road from our Caravan park - a five minute walk but really pleasantly surprised. Great fish and chips - freshly cooked, friendly service. Would heartily recommend this if you’re in the area.

The fish and chips here are the best that we have ever tasted. The quality and style of cooking the fish and chips is just amazing. We had to wait a little while with an electronic buzzer, but it really is worth the wait. Once we got back and ate, we couldn't believe how good it was.

We bought our tea here on Wednesday the 23rd of September because most of the reviews were excellent.We ordered fish and chips and sausage and chips with curry; it was temperature hot and the fish was tasty but the chips were really dry, so we were a little disappointed.

We have been coming to blue anchor for the last 9 years..It's become tradition for us to have fish and chips on the Friday before we leave on Saturday morning. No washing up lol Anyway we usually go to a cafe up the road from where we stay but it was closed early and we began to panic so we googled fish and chips in the area and Alcome came up. So we jumped into car and headed over there.We were not disappointed the service was great as was the fish and chips They were freshly cooked and still hot when we got back to our caravanLovely fish and more than enough chipsSo lucky to have found this little gem. All be it 9 years later. This is our go to place from now on. Keep up the good work and see you next year

This little chippy was rucked away long a narrow village street and appears to be totally a family business which is always good to us. Locals were buying their meals which is always a great sign. Totally recommend that you turn up that lane!!

Absolutely delicious fish and chips. You order at the window (bonus that you can pay on card) and then you wait for it to be freshly cooked (didn’t take long) and collect at the door without setting foot inside so they’re very conscious of safety regarding Coronavirus. Fish was particularly lovely. Would definitely recommend!

We were staying at Dunster Beach and fancied fish and chips on our last day. The reviews said it was good, and I totally agree. The fish was beautiful and fresh, and the chips were delicious. Would definitely go again when in the area In Covid-19 times, they had a window where orders and paymentsare taken , then you have to queue up to get food. Worth the wait.

Visited Alcombe Fish Bar this evening to recce for the “royal visit” next week...Our guests are fastidious ‘fish & chip connoisseurs’ and we have been checking out the options available in Minehead.Last week we caught a cold at ‘Tom’s’ (NEVER AGAIN... VILE!) so tonight it was the turn of Alcombe Fish Bar.Friendly service, clean premises... AND VERY VERY TASTY FISH & CHIPS!Hot, fresh and good portion size. Unlike the frozen rubbish last week at ‘Tom’s’.I have a feeling the search for the “best fish & chips in town” has just ended!

Bought our fish supper from here to take down to Minehead sea front. The fish was delicious - well cooked, tasty batter and the amount of chips in a regular portion was just right. So pleased that we looked at the reviews and went with this choice.

Goodness knows why this place was busy. Greasy and flabby batter on the cod and greasy overdone chips. Would not visit ever again. If I could give zero stars I would.

We have normally visited here on a Friday evening and there is usually a long queue but the wait is always worth it as the fish and chips are cooked to order so nice and fresh. But for some reason not so the last time which was a mid week lunch time. We were the only ones in the shop the fish was cooked while we waited and was of the usually high quality but the chips were not very nice dry and tasted as though they had been cooked much earlier and kept warm.

Reading the reviews we thought we would try their fish, chips etc but the fish was just OK slightly greasy and the chips were mainly bits. We should have taken it back. Maybe our local fish and chips at home has spoilt us.

Visited mid-week and was served quickly. Staff friendly and scampi cooked fresh to order. Took them down to Dunster Beach to enjoy watching the sunset - perfect!

Recommended by friends who live locally (we were dog sitting for the week in Watchet) to try the place (pardon the pun) out and go to Dunster beach to eat fish and chips there. We went to rekki it and decided to have a bag of chips each. Bloomin lovely! When our friends came to join us the next day we took them there got fish & chips x 4 and went to the beach. It was the best fish and chips I've had for many a year and made even better by being by the sea. Owners were super friendly, very helpful and generous. Will return and would recommend anyone to visit.

Excellent “Fish & Chip Supper”. After along journey & tent pitching a Fish & Supper was just what we needed. Superb fish & chips, with Pea Fritters (a first for us, as we are from the Mushy Pea North of Britain territories). Excellent.

Got here and thought this is going to be good one person that serves, one that wraps and one that cooks, with a que out the door, so thought it would be worth the wait, sorry not really just very average and not worth the wait, asked for a large and seemed like a small and over cooked.

Usually go to the Alcombe Fish Bar when I’m in Minehead. Excellent fish and chips as always. Would give five stars but pie was microwaved which makes them soggy, but chips made up for it. Parking is always a bit awkward but that’s not their fault. Will visit again

Moving to Minehead from Sussex. Spotted this little gem. Best Cod and chips I've had for long time. All the food is freshly cooked so be prepared to wait. It's worth it.

Nice selection of fish freshly cooked. If you order the fishcakes remember to ask for the Homemade version. They are a little more, but well worth it.

Found out about this fish and chip shop in a review in a travel guide. They were certainly right that this is an excellent place for your fish and chips. It is tucked down a side street with a quaint shop front. Just off the main A39 road passing through Alcombe, Minehead. Thanks to the sign on the main road pointing down the side road,I was able to spot the shop. Parking is slightly difficult, but the food definitely outweighs the difficulty parking. Freshly cooked fish and beautiful crisp chips. Best fish and chips in Minehead. The couple who run the shop were very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely call again when down in the area.

Having travelled from the Midlands and staying in Dunster we came upon this lovely little chippy tucked away on the Alcombe road on the way into Minehead.

The quality of the haddock on offer was excellent, very fresh and very tasty, and cooked to order. The chips too were well cooked and golden brown rather than the light yellow/white that many chip shops offer. Prices were very reasonable and the only issue is parking whilst waiting for the fish to be cooked as it is on a narrow one way street. Staff were very friendly and this is certainly a place to revisit next time we are in the area.

On holiday and didn’t want to cook, visited this place last year and had purchased a portion of fish and chips with a pot of curry sauce. I had to wait for the fish as it was cooked to order, the couple were very friendly and this is a “chippy” where the locals go as it is tucked away down a little side street. Little tip if your car is a large car don’t go down the side street it is narrow. The chips were delicious and the fish was really good as was the curry sauce.

Been here before as it's about the best one for fish and chips for a seaside town it's disgraceful you cannot get a decent bag of chips but last night we called 6th sept and it was fresh cooked cod well... The chips were all small cut the batter was soggy not at all crisp plus most was stuck to the grease proof paper peas were ok ish... And my daughter had sausage with gravy laugh if that's what it was more like jelly as she stuck her 1st chip into the jelly gravy to which came out clean as it didn't break the skin of the jelly gravy so instantly went in the bin so sorry to say fish & chips in this town we are stuck to were to go as tried many now not good ...

A week in the area would not be complete without some traditional fish and chips, so where better than the Alcombe Fish bar. Once you have parked the car, not the simplest of tasks, there is a welcome range of the simple yet filling staple of fish and chips. We are always happy we came here.

After almost 2 years I finally managed to try this place and I must say that it's the best fish and chips I've had for some time all though the fish bar was very busy the food was definitely worth the wait a fantastic pea fritter and the fish and chips were fantastic will be back very soon to have more

Staying on the Caravan Club site along the road from this fish shop we thought we'd try it given the excellent reviews on TA.

Had 2 x cod and chips, scampi and chips and chicken nuggets, all were perfectly cooked and tasty with pleasant and friendly service.

Seems like a nice family run business and that always warms my heart. We both had different pie and chips and it was really nice. Can't give it 5 stars because didn't really have any fish but perhaps if we return to the area then we might.

Visited this chippy for the first time while on holiday 2 weeks ago..Wow the best chips I have had for ages,these chips were nice and brown just how I like them not anemic looking like most chippies. had battered sausage & curry sauce.my partner had plaice and chips we ate our tea on Dunster beach..perfect..chippy was busy while we were waiting and everything was freshly cooked..will definitely visit again on my return to Somerset and have already recommended too family and friends on there visits to this area...

We were staying at the caravan site about a mile away and were recommended this fish and chip shop. We're weren't disappointed, freshly cooked to order, the fish and the chicken were excellent.

After reading many reviews for this chippy, I assumed it would be worth the pathetically long wait, how I was wrong.If it was not for the fact my husband felt so hungry we would have got back in the car and returned the tiny portion of partially battered fish and lumpy gravy back to get a refund.I don`t normally give bad reviews as I try to be constructive, but in this case I felt I had to. Plus the fact we waited so long, almost an hour!! leaving it too late to take it back and find somewhere else to go. I think in future the owners should warn people of the long wait times, either that or they should be more organised on a average Friday evening at 7pm. I would have provided the photo I took, but could not get it to load.The following evening we found Deans Fish Bar, same price for a `whale` and chips (£7.95) and we sat inside and had table service along the main street in Minehead.

Found this little place a few years ago, my husband, Mum and myself, come back year after year, back again this year, but without mum, lost her suddenly last year, fish and chips still the best ever, and the hosts are the nicest people you could ever want to meet, just don't change a thing, see you both again.

The best Fish n Chips in Minehead.The chip shop is in a narrow side street so parking is very limited.I guess from the location the shop relies on the locals for trade all year round, which makes for a better product then those in town relying on the passing tourist trade.

Use Alcombe fish bar always for take away. The quality of the food is always first class. Lovely friendly service too. They even supply us with Batter bits. Great stuff

As others have said parking is a bit difficult at busy times but it's worth persisting. Great fish & chips, Chicken & chips for all the family. Speed of service will always depend on how busy this little establishment is but you get to see the food being cooked and know it's always hot & fresh. Waited a long time on a Saturday. Very busy. After a big order got back to Holiday camp to find missing baked beans and two portions of mushy peas. This is ofter asking them if everything was in the bags. NOT HoAPPY.

Superb fish and chips, very friendly staff. Visit the area as we have a caravan at Blue Anchor and to get our fish and chips here is a top priority. People are happy to queue and wait for their food to be cooked fresh.

Having queued for ages and basically been ignored by the chippy down the road, I left and went to Alcombe Fish bar where i was served by friendly staff and had the tastiest meal ever. Dont go anywhere else but here! You know its good when the locals are queuing outside waiting for it to open!
