Slow cooked carrots and Grilled Trout are must try

I had dinner at Toklas with my mom yesterday (she is quite a fussy eater), and we both loved everything we had. First of all the restaurant is gorgeous. We arrived early to have a drink on the terrace, it’s quiet, there are loads of plant, it’s beautiful and relaxing. The service was impeccable, outside in the bar and in the restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious, we had a mix of snacks (the fennel salami is probably the best I ever had, same for the anchovies). A mix of starters which were all amazing, and some stuffed pasta which were to die for. 10/10, I can’t wait to go back to try the rest of the menu!!!

We held our daughter's wedding at Toklas last month - civil ceremony, reception, wedding breakfast and party. The staff at Toklas looked after 125 of us superbly from 2pm until 2am on the Monday morning. The food (canapes for the reception, the main meal and late night nibbles) was all excellent and the Toklas bakery made a wonderful wedding cake. Jolita and the events team were always available and made sure everything ran like clockwork. I am even prepared to credit them with organising the beautiful weather which meant we could make full use of the lovely terrace.

Had a wonderful lunch at Toklas. Service was excellent and food was delicious. We started with their sourdough (bought a loaf at their bakery after), followed by the hake and tagliatelle mains, shared a simple green, well-dressed salad, and finished with refreshing lemon sorbet and blackcurrant ice cream. To accompany the meal, we enjoyed a carafe of Sauvignon Blanc from their extensive wine list.

We have been to Toklas on four occasions in the last six months and every menu has been tempting and vibrant. The food is delicious Mediterranean style and the chef is truly inspired. Generous helpings with the tastiest and best ingredients. We cannot recommend it more highly. Sitting in the shade on the terrace on a sunny day is to be transported to the Italian countryside.

The highest quality cooking with exceptional flavours. The fried feta, caponata, brill and leek ravioli were outstanding. Will return and take my husband! We ordered many dishes to share and taste and were disappointed by none.

We wanted to have a calm outdoor dinner with my partner, however when we arrived we noticed that tables are very tight to each other, where you do not have any privacy.. You almost sit next to each other with other people! Which I didn’t like about it.. The foods were tasty, but prices were too high for a place like this, which is not nice.. that smells so much commercialism..

Delicious, inventive, welcoming

Great outdoor dining location and good food - been here twice and the pasta dishes and cocktails are excellent, however, second time I came here the service was very disappointing. Food was served very slowly; our order was initially mistaken. I ordered a glass of wine which I had to send back as there were shards of glass and some sediment in it. The service staff seemed more annoyed than apologetic; came back with a smaller glass of wine and no apology - it looked like they had just poured the previous glass into another one. The food and atmosphere are great but was let down by this experience.

One of my top 10 meals ever this Saturday for lunch. An amazing place and meal. Really wonderful. Sat on the outside terrace which is great. The menu was so interesting it was difficult to decide what to have. Staff were friendly, polite and efficient. The food! So fresh and just perfect combinations. Had a beetroot starter, then pasta (stuffed with ricotta) ended with peaches (in wonderful amoretti sauce). I will definitely come back.

I couldn’t praise Toklas more! The terrace is very pretty and an afternoon sun trap. A fabulous menu - hard to decide! EVERY dish - chilli honey feta, beetroot, aubergine, squid ink tagliolini, rabbit and the almond and apricot tart were delicious and with a twist. Service was outstanding, great wine list with great options for a single glass. Cool arty crowd of all ages. A very special experience.

Nice restaurant & good bakery near temple. Waiters was really nice, and allows us to come in way earlier. Place should be much better under sun, they have a huge terrasse, but unfortunately weather was awful… Food was tasteful but a little bit overpriced.

We found this excellent restaurant as we had booked a concert nearby. There is a refined but relaxed atmosphere and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was wonderful and the flavours tops. We liked it so much we came back the following weekend! Highly recommended

Very beautiful reastaurant and terrace. Polite and attentive service. However the food was just ok. We took a trout ceviche that was ok but nothing special and squid ink tagliolini with crab that was tasty but very oily. The quality of the ingredients seemed quite good on the other hand. We paid a bit more than 60£ pp for a shared starter, two mains and a glass of wine each which I consider overpriced. All in all pleasant but I‘d consider going back.

A gem!! On a side street, a hidden restaurant with a balcony above the street, you feel as if you sit in a garden; small tables, not noisy and great food.

Second visit to Toklas and again had exquisite delicious food. The squid ink and crab tagliolini was a highlight along with the shaved courgettes and honey fried feta. All washed down with an organic Spanish wine. A real treat.

Excellent food and ambiance on the terrace. I had delicious fried feta with honey and chilli, with friggitelli peppers, followed by a succulent lamb dish with freekeh, labneh and mint. Attentive service and relaxed vibe.

Food is very good but portions are small

Lovely space - but the food… is ok, I guess? Nothing memorable and everything overpriced, a study on the thin line between simplicity and mediocrity.

This is a special place. Simple things, beautifully done. A bakery on the premises is all you need to know. Not surprisingly, it's one of the best ovens in London. Perfect food in a bright, airy space with a fabulous terrace for summer. A smart choice for stylish people.

We went for a early-ish lunch, it was quite a miserable day so we booked a table inside, but the terrace turned out very pleasant, and the heaters made a big difference. The service was very good, efficient and to the point. The food is seasonal and as I understand the menu is updated frequently, which is great; charred leeks were the definite highlight; my trout with a side of beans and veggies was well executed and the taste ensemble was well balanced. Prices were fair for the quality. I can definitely recommend this place.

We had a wonderful night out at Toklas last night for our anniversary. What a great night! On arrival, they were very warm and friendly. It's a beautiful, wide open space with a lot of room between the tables, which is great because London restaurants can be very noisy. The maître d' gave us a four-seater booth so we could sit next to each other and a free glass of champagne each. The service was impeccable and the wine list is great with beautiful organic, natural, and biodynamic wines by the glass. The sommelier was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We last visited 18 months ago and both noticed that there has been a subtle but discernable shift in the restaurant. Last time we ate there the food was very good, last night it was great. This is an understated restaurant that is firing on all cylinders. We shall return!

It had been a while - too long in fact - since returning to Toklas to find it continued to get better and better (and it was pretty fantastic to begin with). Service is attentive, friendly and knowledgeable and the food is very ingredient led, using the best produce to deliver one delicious dish after another. There's a great buzz, whether you're sat indoors or on the beautiful terrace when summer decides to cooperate. Highly recommend.

We had a table for 8 on a busy Wednesday lunchtime. We had a starter and main course followed by coffee. We selected from a varied menu and all the dishes were beautifully presented and delicious. Despite the place being busy, the service was excellent. There was a lively atmosphere in the restaurant .

Fabulous working lunch at Toklas. Beautifully prepared, seasonal menu. Strong Italian influence on this day but I believe the menu drifts gorgeously around Europe. Got to have puntarelle alla Romana which I discovered in a tiny Roman restaurant. Took me right back

Gem of a place. Delicious food, fresh and interesting and with amazing flavour.

I stumbled upon this place by accident, intending to visit a nearby bakery with the same name (don’t laugh, it’s right next door, but it was closed anyway). To my surprise, I found myself in a fancy restaurant. Since I was only craving sweets and coffee, I browsed the menu and opted for a latte and a pistachio strawberry tart. Both were really delicious, though quite expensive. The higher prices are understandable given the upscale nature of the restaurant. Unfortunately, I had to deduct one star because the chair was quite uncomfortable.

But the pièce de résistance is the squid ink tagliolini with Portland crab and purslane. It’s a dish that captures the very essence of the sea. Delicious food in this lovely place.

We love Toklas. The food is delicious and the restaurant is spacious and light. A blend of restrained Scandinavian interior design, metropolitan energy and wonderful cooking.

We were walking in London and choose this place to pop-in for a drink, rest our feet and use the restroom. Naturally, we did not have reservations and we were told we could only sit outdoors on the patio for drinks only. We did not complain because garden area was very lovely. The wine list was extensive, however we were excited to try something from cocktail menu. Our service however, was not very good. We waited a long time before we were asked for our drinks and our server was not friendly. My sister ordered the espresso martini. While this drink tasted like burnt espresso, it was at least palatable. My friend and I both each ordered the old fashioned, which was unpalatable. The drink tasted like we drinking pure lemon verbena syrup, without bitters or bourbon. Because our server was so unfriendly, we didn’t feel comfortable sending back our drinks and ordered from the wine menu. In effort to save our cocktails, I ordered 50ml a of Mitchers Bourbon and added 25ml to both old fashioned. Even after adding the extra bourbon, the cocktail tasted of pure syrup. I can only blame myself for not sending the drink back from the beginning. After asking for our bill, we 60£ in cash for three drinks we couldn’t finish. On our way out, our server said our “bills looked too new” and told us credit card was the only accepted form of payment. She added a service charge to our bill, which is to be expected upon receiving adequate service. This was the worst service we received during our seven day trip in London. To my other fellow travelers, the food menu looks amazing. I suggest to make a reservation, drink from the wine menu (avoid the old fashioned) and do not attempt to pay with cash. Hopefully the treatment you receive is much better.

Wonderful food and exceptional service!

We had a business dinner with 6 people and Toklas was an excellent choice. Great, vibrant atmosphere but we were able to have good conversation and actually hear each other well. The service and food was spot on. Home made pasta with venison rague and the French apple tart were my most memorable dishes. Highly recommend for any occasion.

Toklas is one of my favourite restaurants in London. The menu is enticing, seasonal, and Mediterranean-inspired. The interior is bare concrete, softened with works of art, and manages to create a relaxed, calming feel. The waiting staff were friendly, efficient and impressively well-informed about the food and wine. The wine list includes a large number of wines by the glass.

Quite disappointing. Heavily priced and yet the starters were small and uninspiring, and the chips hard and overcooked (clearly been left heating). Had to order some fresh. Impression of (another)place that’s been over hyped and people feel they ought to like because it’s become trendy.

Overall, a good meal in a really nice atmosphere (once you get inside away from the unpromising exterior of the building). Quality of food generally high. But let down by value for money of some dishes, eg £9 for 4 anchovies or a few deep fried slivers of pumpkin (albeit very tastily battered); desserts (we had kumquat and hazelnut tart and rhubarb choux) that were not up to standard; and service that was overly pushy to get us to order everything, as soon as possible. But cocktails and wine were excellent.

In a grey concrete block, an unexpected gem of a restaurant - European food, simply cooked and presented but delicious. Rabbit leg with pink fir potatoes and wild garlic leaves was a particular highlight. Friendly staff with attentive service.

We came after Nigella Lawson gave Toklas rave reviews and she’s right! The food and wine was so delicious, lovely Barbican—y decor and super friendly staff. The best lunch we’d had for a long time we’ll definitely be telling our friends and coming back very soon. Thank you!

Paying over 42£ for a non-labeled wine bottle (that was definetly not a 2020 riesling!) is enough for me not to come to this place ever again. In addition to this, when we pointed that out to the waiter she said it was a barrel wine (how strange, as if other kinds of wine don’t come from barrels!). That was definetly not a riesling, it was probably a very young Chardonay. Really, really disappointed. Furthermore, food was decent, really simple food, but definitely not worth the buck.

I hosted my birthday at Toklas last weekend. All my guests were happy with the service at Toklas. Their food is amazing, the menu is seasonal and amazing sourdough and sea bass. The ambience was excellent. Highly recommend!!
