Amazing lunch, friendly fun service and generally impeccable vibes

I arrived just before the opening time. The very kind server asked me if I'd like to come on, even though I was slightly earlier. As a party of 1, I was warmly welcomed which was a huge delight I then was shown to my table and Sophie as a huge highlight. She very patiently explained all the dishes, and I decided on the sourdough, minestrone-soup like dish and a radicchio salad. I was promptly given warm and delicious. I'll be back.

A little oasis tucked away from the Strand. A really great value pre theatre menu with some creative options. The beetroot starter was fantastic. The pasta dish was tasty, but heavy on chickpeas and sauce. Fantastic cocktail menu and extensive list of wines by the glass.

the staff is charming, professional, knowledgable and attentive, the food, in its finely nuanced simplicity never fails to live up to the highest standards. the atmosphere is lively without being too loud. the piece de la resistance remains the terrace - can't wait for the summer.

Excellent meal pre-Courtauld exhibition. My friend and I shared the sourdough, carrots with labneh, radicchio salad, lamb chops and grilled sardines. The only thing I would note is that it all came at the same time which I wasn’t expecting as I assumed it’d be starters followed by mains but every single morsel was divine! We were scraping the plates it was that good. I’d love to return either for a pre-theatre meal (as it is a bit more on the pricey spectrum for me) or head over to the bakery.

We had lunch here yesterday. I share a January birthday with an old friend and we like to get together then for a treat. Toklas could not have been more gorgeous. Stunningly delicious food, spacious and comfortable space to eat, service: friendly and warm. We shared a starter (divine griddled carrots) and then had a main each (velvet sauced pappardelle) and a coffee. We had the non-alcoholic lemon verbena and basil cordial to drink, so refreshing. Our waitress brought us a scoop of pink ribboned rhubarb ice cream each, with a candle in, so we were extra full and also, thrilled. Thank you Toklas for helping to warm our January London (- and take the corporate edge off it!)

If only all restaurants were like this, incredible food and service and the feeling that your custom really mattered. A true gem and a fabulous location as well.

I just love coming here. It is such a comfy space with warm service and fantastic food. Always seasonal, always wonderfully put together. On this winter’s night, I enjoyed a rich Tuscan bean stew, deer with pumpkin and berries followed by a chocolate dessert paired with olive oil, cherries and creme fraiche. Would recommend!

Effective and efficient , but not intrusive, service. Starters and main courses were all excellent. Could have spent more time there , as well as having more courses, but my companion and I had to leave to attend a booked - up exhibition at the Courtauld Institute nearby.

IMHO the coolest restaurant in London right now, I'm blown away every time. The front of house team are incredible, the food is off the scale and the vibe is spot on. Will be back (again) very soon.

I have dined here twice now, very nice food and interesting menu, and very kind staff. I have some issues with sitting due to hip surgeries and they have always gone out of their way to accommodate my request for certain types of seats in their restaurant that I know are comfortable, which can not be said of many restaurants.

What an absolute treat this restaurant is. The food is exemplary and the atmosphere is wonderful. Could not have been more enjoyable.

We ate there last night for the second time. Everything we ate and drank was delicious. The staff are attentive and lovely. They'll gently suggest that you order some chips as a side dish - you should do, they were great. You'll leave happier than when you arrived, which is surely the point.

Our server was not at all knowledgeable about the wines and we had to encourage him to consult someone who is. He then left before the end of service without advising us or his colleagues, leaving us wondering who was in charge of our table. The food was fine but nothing special. At this price point we expected better.

The restaurant was busy and we were a big group but service was excellent and prompt. The food was delicious and the evening flew by in a second with our guests very happy. Thank you! Will come agin in the sommer for your lovely terrace!

Very charming and relaxing atmosphere, with perfect service. Menu changes often and is original without being unfamiliar. And the sourdough is not to be missed.

This is one of my new favourite restaurants! Starting with the place, the atmosphere is lovely with a warm industrial interior design in a very wide space so giving privacy to guests. Onto the food, this is just delicious. The menu changes quite frequency whilst quality & taste stay consistent from starters to desserts. As an Italian, I appreciated genuine dishes & flavours. Service was also excellent with super friendly yet professional staff who is ready to explain any dishes to you to help with your decision making. You need to try for yourself but you’ll become obsessed!

We went for lunch on a Saturday. The food was amazing....sour dough bread and fried feta with honey to share as a starter....ample, followed by partridge in a rich blackberry sauce....amazing. lemon verbena and basil cordial to drink was also simply delicious. Great service. An excellent experience all round.

The atmosphere and service are amazing, ideal for friends/ family gatherings or romantic dates. The menu is very interesting and the food is delicious; one thing to note is the main dishes tasted too salty, have to eat with lots water and bread.

Everything was delicious but Tarte Tatin was the best!!! I wish I can get from bakery as well….

We had a great lunch at Toklas. The restaurant is spacious and you don’t feel hemmed in by other tables. The staff are terrific - friendly, proactive, good on wine options and professional. The food is delicious and feels a bit different even though some dishes are classics. Highly recommended.

I had a wonderful dinner at Toklas tonight. Refined, flavorful food with great service to match. The grilled carrots and labneh married perfectly together. The artichoke and rocket salad was fresh, vibrant and perfect to start with. The Cornish hake was perfectly cooked and the borlotti beans brought a nice balance with their crunchy texture. For dessert, the pistachio and chocolate tart was a standout—rich yet perfectly balanced and tasteful, between softness and crunchiness it was just perfect. The wine selection was wide and well sourced! The atmosphere was relaxed but polished, making it a spot I’d gladly return to. Highly recommended for anyone looking for elegant, well-executed dining in London.

Some fabulous dishes here, whether you're sharing a gurnard or scooping up cappellacci with ricotta & pine nuts. Very inventive, fresh food & knowledgeable service. Huge dining area - can't wait for lunch on the terrace in the distant future!

Superb local spot focused on the best seasonal ingredients and honest flavorful preparations. Gorgeous terrace in warmer weather but indoors is cozy and relaxed. Many changes regularly so hard to predict what will be on offer, but during our visit we found everything to be top quality and uniformity delicious. Hake with yellow peppers was perfectly cooked and balanced. Pasta wa ms balanced like an Italian would envy. And the lamb was subtle and gorgeous. Same for starters. Not a weak dish on the menu. Concise wine list matches well with the food and priced to enjoy. Wide selection of wines by glass and carafe at very fair prices. Easily one of our new favorites in London!! Bookings advised but it’s a big place and likely easy to find a table .

I’ve been back several times to Toklas because of the cooking, the service and the ambiance. The acoustics are good, so there’s no difficulty hearing the people you’re with, even when it’s busy. It’s a lovely place!

We love this restaurant and visit whenever we are in town. The food is varied and innovative and very tasty. We had the pre theatre menu yesterday and it did not disappoint. My husband couldn’t stop talking about it and it was the highlight of his day. The staff are friendly, informative and attentive and it makes a huge difference to the ambience of the restaurant. We will be returning.

Delicious seasonal menu and amazing service

Stopped in for the pre theatre menu on our anniversary and had two complimentary glasses of Prosecco waiting for us. And the experience only got better from there: delicious food and drinks and service to match. An absolute gem of a place!

Fantastic food and great service! They cooked my partridge to perfection, paired with fresh, delicious loganberries. As for the chips… absolutely yum!

Toklas is a real find. Wonderful food, fantastic service and a very good location right on the river in central London. I always have a delightful meal here and I choose it as an alternative to the rip off 180 Strand around the corner.

Second time I’ve been here. The menu is always interesting especially for vegetarians. Food was delicious again. Wine beautifully chilled served in elegant glassware. Understated elegance is what Toklas does best. Can’t wait to go back again.

Fantastic place for a relaxed lunch my lovely red mullet came with a delicious aioli. My wife had two starters, roasted leeks with tomatoes and hazelnuts and secondly figs with raddiccio pecorino and honey all delightful. Service was excellent friendly and helpful. We were seated inside but they have a large plant covered terrace for warm days. Strongly recommended.

Delicious seasonal menu (with a good choice of dishes for my vegetarian guest). Everything that we ordered was well-seasoned and packed with flavour. Service was friendly and efficient and we enjoyed our bottle of a natural Pinot Noir from a top Alsatian producer. Good value too!

Food very good and atmosphere nice. Unfortunately, our waitress was only able to answer a few questions about food or drinks and was unfamiliar with the menu. According to her own statement, she has been working in the restaurant for a short time. It was a shame anyway.

Slow cooked carrots and Grilled Trout are must try

I had dinner at Toklas with my mom yesterday (she is quite a fussy eater), and we both loved everything we had. First of all the restaurant is gorgeous. We arrived early to have a drink on the terrace, it’s quiet, there are loads of plant, it’s beautiful and relaxing. The service was impeccable, outside in the bar and in the restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious, we had a mix of snacks (the fennel salami is probably the best I ever had, same for the anchovies). A mix of starters which were all amazing, and some stuffed pasta which were to die for. 10/10, I can’t wait to go back to try the rest of the menu!!!

Perfect outdoor lunch setting for Bank Holiday Monday sunshine after a trip to the Courtauld Gallery! Delicious food and friendly service.

We held our daughter's wedding at Toklas last month - civil ceremony, reception, wedding breakfast and party. The staff at Toklas looked after 125 of us superbly from 2pm until 2am on the Monday morning. The food (canapes for the reception, the main meal and late night nibbles) was all excellent and the Toklas bakery made a wonderful wedding cake. Jolita and the events team were always available and made sure everything ran like clockwork. I am even prepared to credit them with organising the beautiful weather which meant we could make full use of the lovely terrace.

Had a wonderful lunch at Toklas. Service was excellent and food was delicious. We started with their sourdough (bought a loaf at their bakery after), followed by the hake and tagliatelle mains, shared a simple green, well-dressed salad, and finished with refreshing lemon sorbet and blackcurrant ice cream. To accompany the meal, we enjoyed a carafe of Sauvignon Blanc from their extensive wine list.

We have been to Toklas on four occasions in the last six months and every menu has been tempting and vibrant. The food is delicious Mediterranean style and the chef is truly inspired. Generous helpings with the tastiest and best ingredients. We cannot recommend it more highly. Sitting in the shade on the terrace on a sunny day is to be transported to the Italian countryside.

The highest quality cooking with exceptional flavours. The fried feta, caponata, brill and leek ravioli were outstanding. Will return and take my husband! We ordered many dishes to share and taste and were disappointed by none.

We wanted to have a calm outdoor dinner with my partner, however when we arrived we noticed that tables are very tight to each other, where you do not have any privacy.. You almost sit next to each other with other people! Which I didn’t like about it.. The foods were tasty, but prices were too high for a place like this, which is not nice.. that smells so much commercialism..

Such a great venue for a summer lunch on the terrace - food is wonderful and the staff are heaven.

Delicious, inventive, welcoming

Great outdoor dining location and good food - been here twice and the pasta dishes and cocktails are excellent, however, second time I came here the service was very disappointing. Food was served very slowly; our order was initially mistaken. I ordered a glass of wine which I had to send back as there were shards of glass and some sediment in it. The service staff seemed more annoyed than apologetic; came back with a smaller glass of wine and no apology - it looked like they had just poured the previous glass into another one. The food and atmosphere are great but was let down by this experience.

One of my top 10 meals ever this Saturday for lunch. An amazing place and meal. Really wonderful. Sat on the outside terrace which is great. The menu was so interesting it was difficult to decide what to have. Staff were friendly, polite and efficient. The food! So fresh and just perfect combinations. Had a beetroot starter, then pasta (stuffed with ricotta) ended with peaches (in wonderful amoretti sauce). I will definitely come back.

Simple food, exceedingly well executed, delicious. Outstanding cocktails, very original. Looking forward to returning.
