A busy, buzzy atmosphere. We had the early theatre menu. Good portion sizes.

Great food, great service, lovely atmosphere.

The place is curated in the design both inside and outside (recommended on a sunny day). The menu is really well thought, mixing British, middle Eastern and Italian classics, the food is delicious from starters to desserts. They have a great wine selection and cocktails. The staff is very professional and they dedicated us to lots of attention.

The atmosphere and service in this place is really good and I had a nice time overall. The starters were decent but the main courses were really disappointing. For £28, the pasta needs to be spot on, and both dishes we had were not good.

Super positive experience yesterday for a long lunch. The terrace was absolutely divine! Food and drink excellent! And the service, well it was just next level! Top marks to Jude for keeping us entertained. Such a charismatic individual who had us in stitches and took very good care of us. A credit to the organisation. Will be back. Best lemon sorbet I’ve ever tasted and the best terrace in London. Lovely times

This is one of the great London restaurants which has achieved "institution" status. To be clear there's nothing stuff about it. Everything is excellent. Super people, very friendly and smart. A cool space, concrete and wood, which doesn't feel like a restaurant space - inside. And a great terrace outside. The menu is short and changes and the food is excellent. That said, I've had rabbit more than once and it's delicious. The wines by the glass that I've had have all been very good. All in all a wonderful place.

I went to Toklas for lunch today. My first time there and it was excellent. Delicious food, friendly but unobtrusive service, buzzy atmosphere. Really enjoyed it - it’ll become a regular destination for me.

Had an amazing dinner at Toklas this week. A beautiful space and perfect for spring summer. The service was lovely as was the menu. Amazing options for vegetarians and carnivores alike. This restaurant reminded me of my favourite restaurants back home in Aus like Nomad - the combination of space, service and quality of food has made this the best dining experience for me in London for years. Very friendly staff, not too over-attentive. Fantastic wine and absolutely delicious food. I also appreciated the acoustic damping of the ceiling and open windows as I have difficulty hearing in restuarants with lots of hard surfaces everywhere. Honestly I couldn't fault it and look forward to coming again soon, thank you.

Toklas inside or on the terrace, simply the best!

The cocktail was immensely good, but it was slightly tinged by the "no eating outside until the 12th May" policy - not even olives! Might go back, food looked good 👍

The customer service was great- the food was delicious - savoured every mouthful. We even managed a quick drink on the terrace in the sunshine before lunch. A fabulous experience. Can’t wait to come back!

Really exceeded all expectations!! The food was amazing, the asparagus starter and 2 fish mains were particularly good and went really well together. And the service was some of the best we've ever had. Perfect level of attentiveness and knowledgeable. Can't rate highly enough 😊

The food was good however service was very lacking- very slow and not very attentive. The atmosphere was also a bit claustrophobic, spaces between tables is way too small Every time i got up i crashed into a rushing waiter/ other guest. Overall would recommend for the food, but its not a place that invites you to want to stay for an extra few drinks after the meal is over.

A fabulous team, who gave us a wonderful welcome and made us feel special throughout the meal. Booked for the pre-theatre menu, which was absolutely delicious - all fresh, in-season, ingredients - and will definitely return for the full experience. Great to watch the chefs in the open kitchen - highly professional, calm atmosphere. Chris Shaw, the head chef, is to be congratulated.

One of the best restaurants in London. The food, wine, staff and ambience are all spot on. I've been here a number of times now and every visit has been a delight. The seasonal menu changes regularly and every dish is prepared to perfection. The wine list seems very carefully curated and not overpriced like some restaurants. The staff are always excellent - attentive, but not overbearing and always on hand to make helpful recommendations. For a large restaurant the ambience is intimate and relaxed (and very stylish). Highly recommended.

Great food, service and atmosphere loved the place will be back

Pork chops, roasted carrots, and even lemonade! All of the food was delicious, but it was a very happy time for me to celebrate my birthday with a simple but touching surprise event. I want to visit again next time I go to London!

Absolutely wonderful London restaurant. I love the space, the service is impeccable and friendly, and the food is delicious. It was my third visit, and with my daughter who is vegan. The plant based food is some of the best I’ve had and the fish is great. We sat there for 3.5 hours eating and talking and they never once made us feel like we had to leave. Even the fennel scented soap in their loos are lovely. One of my favourite London restaurants. 🌟

I have wanted to eat at Toklas for a while and it was well worth the wait. Great vibe, delicious cocktails (the best negroni!)and amazing food. I had the slow roasted carrots with labneh pistachio and sumac, the lamb with lentils artichoke and mint and the chocolate tart with cherries and creme fresh. Others had the scallop crudo and the ricotta and olive oil cake. Can't wait to come back.

Lovely small plate options, that change frequently- interesting vegetable/fish combinations that are fresh and delicious. I have yet to explore the main course options as i tend to like variety and multiple taste options. Excellent service that is not invasive

This restaurant really is quite special. It’s a beautiful, stylish space, staffed by people who really care about what they are doing. And they turn out beautifully executed, clever food. Interesting wine list too. Go.

We’ve been to this great spot three times. The food is wonderful and the service super. We prefer inside but there is also a great terrace. Some lovely vegetarian offers.

Knowledgeable and engaging staff at Toklas resulted in a most enjoyable and memorable evening. The menu showcases seasonal produce with interesting and unusual combinations, particular favourites were the carrots with labneh and pistachio and melt in the mouth scallop crudo. The extensive, well priced wine list offers a large selection by the glass, carafe or bottle.

Had the most delightful lunch at Toklas. The atmosphere was relaxed yet elegant, perfect for a long, indulgent meal. The rabbit was incredibly tender and full of flavour, and the beetroot salad—wow. Fresh, vibrant, and beautifully balanced. Can’t wait to go back!

Took my wife here for dinner last night as part of her birthday celebrations. I chose Toklas on the strength of other reviews and all I can say is, they’re not wrong. Food was a delight, not heavy in any way yet brimming with flavour. The pork chop was quite simply the best we’d ever tasted. Will be heading back there anytime we’re in the area. Try it and see for yourselves, then you too can agree with all of the reviews.

We had a fabulous early Mother’s Day dinner here. Delicious food, gorgeous cocktails, really friendly staff & a relaxed atmosphere. Even though the dining room was full, service was quick and we didn’t feel rushed. I can’t stop thinking about the baked cream and rhubarb!

There's a saying, 'good food should taste of what it is', and the Toklas yardstick is evident across their entire menu which encompasses Mediterranean fine dining. An experience not to be missed. Terrific cooking and food prep into the bargain - how can you refuse?

An excellent restaurant tucked below the Aldwych. It has excellent service and a small interesting menu. Service was excellent. We will return.

I love this restaurant. I’ve been three times now and every time it has delivered. The food is excellent. The staff are lovely. The atmosphere is exactly what I like- a nice buzz but not so much that you can’t hear the conversation at your table. Chic decor and delicious drinks.

An excellent meal, excellent service and a perfect evening in every way

Unremarkable — fish heavy menu. We started with sourdough bread and butter, which were far below expectations. The fried feta with honey and chilli was good—crunchy, warm, and just sweet enough. The carrots were also a hit at our table. However, the portland crab and winter tomato bruschetta was difficult to eat and too salty. For the main course, we tried tagliatelle with pork ragu, radicchio and parmasen, as well as cavatelli with walnuts and garlic. Radicchio didn’t went well with the remaining of the plate. Both dishes were below expectations. For dessert, we ordered caramel ice cream, ricotta and olive oil cake, and chocolate cremosa with cherries. The caramel ice cream had a burnt flavor. Overall, the desserts were just okay —nothing special. We also tried the Blackberry Mule (which I loved) and Lado Verde The outdoor seating was cozy, cute, and spacious. Despite the cold weather, it was enjoyable thanks to the ample heating. However, I found the indoor area lacking, both in space and atmosphere, especially given the restaurant’s price point.

The service was extremely slow. It felt like it took ages to get our food. And the restaurant didn’t seem to care at all, no explanation, just letting us wait for an hour without any concern and compensation. I don’t think this was worth the 13.5% service charge, as there was barely any service for us at all. And we can’t believe such a highly rated restaurant in a busy neighborhood would operate this way.

Love this bakery but the sandwich fillings are criminally stingy (they cost £10!)

Toklas is quite frankly my perfect restaurant. Delicious food, served by charming staff in a wonderful room, or, when the sun is out, on a beautiful terrace. And in these over-inflated times, at a perfectly fair price given the quality of the cooking.

I happen to be in Strand quite often, but somehow I missed this gem. And oh my, do I regret not knowing of it! Finally visited yesterday and I am enamoured by the food and service provided. Let me start from the dishes - I must say, in a gloomy Britain, being able to smell the food before eating is something which does not happen often. The freshness of used produce is radiating from the plate. I wholeheartedly recommend trying fried feta, crab sandwich and the vegan artichoke. And I am not easy to impress! The way it was served was also rather out of this world. I would like to also appreciate the staff working yesterday (Friday, 23 Feb). From the start, I felt very welcome. The duo on the entrance was very welcoming, helping with the reservation and the coats. Our server - Anna, was great at recommending the best of what the restaurant has to offer. Her kindness and professional dedication should be followed around the town. Also had a lovely short chat with the chef, after sharing my compliments. Will definitely visit again and recommend it within my social circle. Thank you for this experience!

I have been to Toklas 5 times in the last 2 years and intend to go as often as I can in the next 2 years. Particularly impressed by the seasonal menus (where else can you find such delicious artichokes?) and the charming and helpful staff.

Excellent meal pre-Courtauld exhibition. My friend and I shared the sourdough, carrots with labneh, radicchio salad, lamb chops and grilled sardines. The only thing I would note is that it all came at the same time which I wasn’t expecting as I assumed it’d be starters followed by mains but every single morsel was divine! We were scraping the plates it was that good. I’d love to return either for a pre-theatre meal (as it is a bit more on the pricey spectrum for me) or head over to the bakery.

Decent but Room for Improvement Toklas has some good aspects, but overall, it fell a bit short of expectations. The food was enjoyable, though not exceptional. Service was average, staff were polite but not particularly attentive. The atmosphere lacked warmth and could be more inviting. For the price, I expected a more memorable experience. Decent spot, but not in a rush to return.

Exceptional, intuitive and well trained professionals at every level. Staff were clearly working hard and very well as a team. And the number of staff was a very good indicator. They matched the pace of our dining experience perfectly and had time to make a connection with the customer. As you would expect, the food was great: fresh ingredients, cleverly curated and never “run-of-the-mill.” If ever a restaurant really deserves to succeed, this is it. Enough said. See you again.

A wonderful restaurant in the City with great food and a chilled atmosphere.

Great venue and fantastic food. Perfect for work lunch or a day out in town. Balcony will be gorgeous in the warmer weather. Ask about the lemons!

Toklas is love. Tagliatelle this good can only be found at the best restaurants in Bologna (Italian here, went with my mom who happened to be visiting me for the long weekend!), with radicchio adding texture and flavor, and a ragù and pasta that are simply sublime. The sourdough—probably a fifty-fifty—is expertly made, paired with a salted butter that tastes of hazelnuts and love. The staff is wonderful and absolutely lovely. 🫶

I’ve been here five or six times. They change the menu quite often so each time is a different experience. Definitely one of my favourite restaurants in London. You can certainly note the quality of the ingredients. Congratulations to the team! Needless to say, the service is impeccable and staff is very friendly.

Another fantastic meal at Toklas. My lamb chop with borlotti beans and salsa verde was perfectly cooked and the flavours were beautifuly balanced. The tarte tatin (for sharing) was quite delicious. A funky natural red (on reflection, should have picked something else as alas it wasn't quite to our taste), and two marvellous glasses of sweet wine. Great service, the place was packed by 7 on a Tuesday night and the ambience was buzzy but relaxed. Love this place.

A little oasis tucked away from the Strand. A really great value pre theatre menu with some creative options. The beetroot starter was fantastic. The pasta dish was tasty, but heavy on chickpeas and sauce. Fantastic cocktail menu and extensive list of wines by the glass.

I arrived just before the opening time. The very kind server asked me if I'd like to come on, even though I was slightly earlier. As a party of 1, I was warmly welcomed which was a huge delight I then was shown to my table and Sophie as a huge highlight. She very patiently explained all the dishes, and I decided on the sourdough, minestrone-soup like dish and a radicchio salad. I was promptly given warm and delicious. I'll be back.

the staff is charming, professional, knowledgable and attentive, the food, in its finely nuanced simplicity never fails to live up to the highest standards. the atmosphere is lively without being too loud. the piece de la resistance remains the terrace - can't wait for the summer.

We had lunch here yesterday. I share a January birthday with an old friend and we like to get together then for a treat. Toklas could not have been more gorgeous. Stunningly delicious food, spacious and comfortable space to eat, service: friendly and warm. We shared a starter (divine griddled carrots) and then had a main each (velvet sauced pappardelle) and a coffee. We had the non-alcoholic lemon verbena and basil cordial to drink, so refreshing. Our waitress brought us a scoop of pink ribboned rhubarb ice cream each, with a candle in, so we were extra full and also, thrilled. Thank you Toklas for helping to warm our January London (- and take the corporate edge off it!)

If only all restaurants were like this, incredible food and service and the feeling that your custom really mattered. A true gem and a fabulous location as well.
