Tir a Môr in Cardiff

Booked a spa and Dine package on Saturday 9th November, the spa was okay, no complaints there. However, the restaurant was a different story. We ordered the soup of the day as starter, were told they had run out so went for an alternative one. Funnily enough, 5 minutes after, the table opposite us ordered 2 of the tomato soup and received it shortly after, they absolutely prioritise people that stay overnight over casual diners of the restaurant. Poor choice of menu, the only appealing choice for me was a chicken burger which came undercooked and frankly tasted like nothing. Worst £150 I have ever spent, do not recommend

It’s the hotel restaurant, beautifully designed. The beer and Italian wine were nice. The food was good quality, I didn’t like the onion rings that much, but the rest was very nice. The service was good and the staff were nice and polite. I recommend this restaurant. It also has a very beautiful balcony, a nice place you can drink and look at the bay.

Very friendly staff that were very helpful and kind with dietary requirements. Food tasted very nice and the portions were generous. It also had a very chilled atmosphere.

Service was lovely. Attentive but not overbearing. Atmosphere was really nice and peaceful too. Food itself was okay. I think my chicken liver parfait was sat under pass lights for too long as the butter on top had melted and parfait slightly split - flavour was nice though. Fillet steak was good, well-cooked, perfect seasoning, but sear could have been stronger. Peppercorn sauce was questionable, odd consistency and not much flavour. Chips were nothing to write home about, but well-cooked and golden. Dad seemed to really enjoy his lamb. No complaints on his end. Would probably return, even if it's just for snacks as all the starters sounded incredible!

My board of directors, senior staff and I were staying in the hotel. We were a table of 8 people and dined here last night, 19th March. The food was average, especially for a 5 star hotel, and expensive for what it was. The junior staff were nice, but the restaurant manager was "off" with us from the start, and then approached us and asked us to be less noisy, because apparently she couldn't hear to take other people's orders. We were a group of professionals, including the chair of my board, having a working dinner, I was frankly horrified, humiliated and embarrassed in equal measure. When we challenged her behaviour she doubled down, no word of apology. If you want good food, good service and a nice ambience AVOID, there are much better options in Cardiff Bay

This dining experience fell far short of a 5-star rating. Despite arriving for dinner at 19:00, we endured an extensive wait until 20:00 for our food that failed to meet expectations. The drinks were average and we billed for the subpar experience. Overall, the dining quality was lacking and left much to be desired.

We dined here last Thursday night when we stayed at the hotel. The food was fine and delicious and we were well looked after by the staff. Unfortunately we could not use our gift voucher against the pre-theatre meal as it was already discounted. We were choosing the pre- theatre menu because of the portion size.

Time for an updated review of Tir a Môr. This is the hotel restaurant at the Voco. Now, normally I don’t go for hotel restaurants much. All a bit average. This place though. This place is very different. A proper restaurant with a proper menu - seasonal dishes, really well cooked, served in decent surroundings. I’ve eaten here maybe half a dozen times in the last year and it has always been excellent. High quality stuff. Beautiful fish cake with poached egg to start and tender pink lamb on a bed of greens for main. Wonderful. The barra brith bread pudding for dessert a revelation. 😎 The staff here are very attentive and the service is excellent overall. Definitely worth a visit. Not cheap, but you wouldn’t expect it to be. Reasonable. There’s a decent bar here as well if you’re after drinks. 1980s classic Grolsch is available on tap, alongside Asahi. Well done. Nice terrace outside. Got a bit of an 80s vibe too. Had a few nice nights there. Unfortunately just past the time of year to enjoy it now though. 🍻

I recently dined at Tir A Mor restaurant in Cardiff Bay and I was blown away by the experience. The staff were incredibly attentive and made us feel very welcome. The food was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked. I highly recommend the seared scallops with cauliflower puree and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. We also had some delicious cocktails, which were made with fresh ingredients. Overall, we had a truly memorable dining experience at Tir A Mor and I would definitely recommend it to others. Hotel restaurant which has access to outside space. We used it as part of the spa package. The choice of food is a bit limited but it was well presented. I probably would not eat in the restaurant if I had to booked a spa day as the parking is expensive and the food overpriced.

We enjoyed a beautiful mother's day here. The beef dinner with all the trimings was absolutely amazing. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The service is quick and efficient and for a five star hotel I found it reasonably priced. We enjoyed the panoramic veiw sitting in the windows of all Cardiff bay has to offer. Highly recommend a visit

Restaurant is ok. Standard hotel restaurant and nothing special but expensive. £18 for basic kids menu - soup, pasta, ice cream is ridiculous.

Came to Tir a Mor since we didn't plan our dinners staying in St Davids well. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The service was lovely, and all the food came out hot and in good time. For the starter, we shared the Roasted pumpkin, and red chilli hummus, crispbread (ve), which was excellent. For mains, we had the catch of the day and lamb rump. The lamb was absolutely stunning. Everything about it was 10/10. Unfortunately, the catch of the day was quite bland and, for me personally, over-peppered. I wholeheartedly recommend the Dark chocolate and orange delice, Cointreau gel, honeycomb, and blood orange sorbet (v) dessert. It was absolutely amazing. I could have eaten 3 for my whole dinner.

Absolutely wonderful, great staff and amazing food, stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and after the first night had to come back for another meal.

First time visiting and definitely will not me my last. Fantastic hospitality team, so pleasant, friendly and exceptionally helpful. I attached an event to launch their new refurbished restaurant and menu... wow wow wow!!!

Nice restaurant to sit and look at the bay comfortable and peaceful

Stayed at the Voco St. David so ate here regularly during our stay. The food and drinks were great and the staff was always so kind! Great food and even better service! absolutely loved our time in Cardiff!

Great food , service and scenery

Decided to give this another go after a disappointing experience last year. Sorry to find things haven't improved. Location is fantastic and the restaurant is light and comfortable but the quality of service does not justify the prices. The majority of staff are inexperienced and unattentive (with the exception of the old pro who used to work in El Puertos). If you decide to give it a go and have more sense than money, note i) When ordering Sauvignon Blanc by the glass you will be given the most expensive unless you specify. ii) Draught beer is cheaper in Norway. We were charged £21.32 for 250ml of the former and a pint of the latter.

Good execution on classic fish and chips. The restaurant had a good choice of starters and nibbles. Views are one of the best for Cardiff. Seating indoors and outdoors. The char griller fish burger was great too (super soft). Desert execution (visually and taste) was good too

Most definitely NOT 5 star, we arrived for dinner at 18.50 hrs and didn't get any food until 20.20hrs. when Tue food arrived they brought the starter with the main meals, we sent the starter away and ate the main meal. Dessert was truly awful, it was supposed to be Whisky flavoured chocolate moose with raspberries and honeycomb. I got a splodge of set chocolate stuff with a few brownies sprinkled on it. I didn't eat it, however I'm pretty sure we were charged for everything and it was very very poor.

Service incredibly slow, constant mess ups in our order, waiters didn't know anything about the dishes. Food incredibly disappointing considering how wonderful the Voco hotel in which it's in is. Requested a medium rare steak and received it completely rare, ate it anyway cause I was waiting for an hour until anything came to the table. Not even starters came by then. Unfortunately trapped and had to return 2 days in a row because of the weather and dinner was included as part of our accommodation. Definitely will not coming back.

Location was good, nice view IF seated by the windows. Booked a Valentines dinner for 2, starters was horrible, flaccid oysters, unbelievably small portion of salmon. Mains was just about the same, lamb was not good, sea bass was slightly better. Ok ish restaurant if dine for convenience. But wouldn’t return.

This place made you feel special from the time you walk you through the relvolving door, to the time you check out. All the staff were amazing and especially if you use the restaurant. Jade was especially amazing, with nothing being too much trouble. Afternoon Tea was really worth having. Looking forward to another visit soon. Just a little disappointed that residents weren't able to use the spa between 11am and 5pm unless you booked treatments. All in all a totally special place to stay in Cardiff

Fantastic place! Helped me setup a big surprise for my dad - secretly flew in to walk in on him at dinner. Staff helped and everyone was involved. Great food. Will definitely recommend.

We had an afternoon tea booked for a group of 8 people. It was our wedding celebration with our family. After the new restrictions (max group of 6 people) we phoned the restaurant to see our options. We asked to be separated in two tables of 4 so we could be together on this special day and still celebrate it the best we could. You can imagine how upset we were already feeling about this new situation. However, the restaurant not only refused this option, but they were rude, heartless and unable to offer a solution. The only option was to have two separate tables at two separate times, which means we we not going to be at the restaurant at the same time. My wedding meal is now cancelled 7 days before the wedding and I don't have words to explain how bad they made me feel. Very disappointing as I was expecting more due to the quality of the hotel.

Staying at the St. Davids Hotel so first night we ate at the Admiral Bar. We went for the festive menu which was superb. Wife had the Turkey while I had the Venison Pithivier. Both were delicious and with the starters and amazing puddings we were full to the gills.

Impossible to make a reservation for 8 people due to staff not knowing the process. Spoke to several people to do this, and it still was not done correctly, with the reservation and paid deposit being missing when I turned up to the restaurant.

Five star Fawlty Towers. Froze in the Spa, sand in the pool, endless list of inadequacies.

I can't praise this place enough. The food was superb and the service exceptional. Will definitely go back.

A very disappointing excuse for a five star hotel restaurant. Menu is pub food, presentation and quality of food is not up to pub food. There does not appear to be any attention to detail in menu and dish design, cooking, presentation and overall standards.

Drastically gone down hill. The only good thing was the food. Emailed complaint but got no reply. Absolutely unreal

Came here for just drinks in late afternoon. Staffs were pleasantly hospitable. Music was not too loud and atmosphere was nice too. They only serve a few cocktails (classic ones).

Recently we booked a table at the Admiral and found that very few items on the menu were actually available, but the food was good and service was excellent. Prompted by this we booked again and had another meal at the Admiral, and the triple cooked chips we had last time were eagerly awaited. I ordered the haddock and triple cooked chips, that wasn't available on the previous visit and this time it was available. So i thought that everthing would run like clockwork, but i was in for a shock. The triple cooked chips that i had enjoyed so much before were replaced with what i could only describe as inedible part cooked potato wedges with skin on, when i asked about this i was told this was all they had. Had they told me this as i was ordering i would have chosen another item from the menu. To make matters worse, the fish was just dumped on top of the mushy peas coating the whole underside of the batter with wet mushy peas, so all i could taste was the offending peas over the fish. The so called 'chips' were discarded by all and placed on their own plate and all three portions amounted to one normal portion. Unfortunately as seen this was another poor showing for the Admiral at St Davids Hotel and Spa. PS., I have just cooked myself Youngs battered haddock with McCains crinkle cut oven chips, and had a better meal for only £2.50 and not had to pay £5 for parking.

Restaurant staff get 5 stars from me, a neighbour and member for a while now. Spa/Gym staff get 2 stars. Certain reception staff do not make you feel welcome, which is disappointingly odd! There are staff that are very pleasant and smiley faced 🙂 However, I appreciate Covid has put enormous pressure on recruitment in the hospitality business!

My first visit in well over 12 months, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I have been a regular at St David's hotel for almost 20 years,and am particularly fond of the design and layout of the restaurant and bar area this time. I was served by a tremendously courteous, and professional young lady,originally from Sri Lanka,and I was,as usual, delighted with everything. Highly recommended.

Good wholesome brasserie style food. My husband and I are quite particular with food, but everything we tried on the festive menu was done well. The also accommodated our children very well with nice added touches to keep them amused. All the staff were the right balance of friendly and professional. We were also very impressed that we only had to tell the lady serving us that we were in a bit of a hurry as we had an appointment to get to and she kept that in mind and made sure that everything we ordered came quickly (despite it being quite busy) and sorted the bill out quickly also (yet we still didn't feel rushed). We were very impressed, thank you to all those working the lunchtime/afternoon shift today (5/12/20).

When to the spa sauna and showers not available for use plus there is no classes.. Yer no discount for services not available..

So look forward to visiting one day. Simply reading the menus are a delight.

Have stayed at this hotel numerous times and I cannot fault it to be honest. Always a warm welcome, staff extremely helpful. Restaurant and bar serves good beer and food and the setting across the bay is beautiful with a sunrise. Downside is the car park is too small!

Amazing food and customer service

What a fantastic place, it was stunning and beautiful. I organised a 60th birthday dinner for my brother, a party of 9, on the 8th February. The atmosphere was great, staff very attentive and courteous. The food was absolutely delicious, well presented and tasted fabulous. I had bought a cake and candles and the staff came out with it singing happy birthday, it was such a lovely touch, I didn't expect them to do that and the extra touch with an icing board saying happy birthday, was just so lovely. We had all travelled from as far as Leicester and as near as Wiltshire. Cardiff has developed into a really cool place, I hadn't visited Cardiff in years. I just want to say a huge Thank You, to all the staff for making our evening.

We were fortunate to have had a nights stay booked in the hotel for us, as we'd booked to see Jack Whitehall at the motorpoint. We decided to have a few drinks pre-show and were open to dining options. We were served initially by Chole, who discussed the menu in great detail and having looked through it we decided to eat in the restaurant. The bar menu and the Ala cart menu are similar... we ordered starters and main both were amazing,, Tom served us and the bill was reasonable.. we are pleased with our dinner choice. 👍

I had lunch here on New Years Day and it was out of this world. The service we received from the moment we walked into the restaurant was outstanding. We arrived for our booking 15 minutes early but this was no trouble at all, we were seated on a comfy sofa with warm drinks within minutes of our arrival. When seated at the restaurant the manager was our server. Unfortunately I forgot to take her name but she was so friendly, chatty and just lovely. I ordered the XXL ham and cheese ciabatta...it was delicious and I can't wait to go back and have it again! All of the food served to my family looked delicious and not one of us sent a plate back with food on! The best lunch out I have had in a while, made extra special by the lovely staff.

Food was subpar and the spider walking across the floor was bigger than my steak. Great dinning if you are on a date with a frog or lizard. Will not return.

I went for dinner as a resident. Have to say that the food was lovely - I had the Welsh lamb. However, this restaurant, like others, does not provide a full main course in that you will have to add sides to your dish in order to complete it. This, obviously, adds expense, making the meal that much more expensive. The other reason I only gave this 3 stars was the poor service I received. The restaurant was around half full and so not overly busy you would think. They sat me in a corner (fine by me), but then ignored me for 15 minutes before taking my order. The order itself then took 30 minutes to arrive. Once I had finished my main I might have been tempted to look at the dessert menu. That was soon quashed as it took them over 20 minutes to come over to collect my plate and ask. By this time I just wanted to leave. So, overall, nice food, expensive for what it is, and service needs improvement.

Had a really lovely Sunday lunch today with my family in a relaxing, pleasant atmosphere. There was a nice view of Cardiff Bay too. The staff were also very helpful regarding my son’s severe nut allergy and we were made to feel welcome. I can’t wait to go back and try their afternoon tea. Very, very nice

Lovely spa and good facilities mixed messages about complimentary tea / coffee - dont ask the receptionist they will send you outside in your robe in the rain to go and get one from main hotel.

My family and I went for afternoon tea at the Admiral and we absolutely loved it. The staff were attentive, the food was beautiful and the atmosphere was so welcoming. The views on the balcony over to Penarth were just breathtaking. We'll definitely be back.

Lovely Sunday lunch - & free pint as it was Fathers' Day - with more than helpful staff , even though we broke 2 wine glasses in 2 separate incidents. :-)

Fabulous spa day well worth the money .

We had a baby shower here. I can't say that the cakes or sandwiches were particularly to my taste but perhaps I have a simpler pallet than those that regularly go. Service was brilliant and drinks were reasonably priced. Afternoon tea wasn't for me but loo forward to returning for Sunday lunch

Very good, but spa clients in Bath robes is not a good look in a supposedly 5star establishment with business clients having lunch & I'm sure it wasn't like that on my last visit...

Had the set menu...2 meals for £20 and a free glass of prosecco Fantastic service and value.

Absolutely love this place! Always so friendly and welcoming. The hotel, Restaurant and Spa are fab! Ian has been our waiter on several occasions in the last few months, and like all staff here, he is prepared to go above and beyond. Highly recommend!

Loved the location and ambience

So venue, staff and menu selection itself are all great here and it is a lovely restaurant in the Voco Cardiff Bay Hotel. The quality of the produce is good BUT when we went during December last year, the food just lacked any seasoning or flavour and couldn't understand why. The dishes looked great, but the mains we ordered were just a bit tasteless, an example being the chilli and garlic brussel sprouts side dish, it was pretty much just oil, couldn't see much garlic or chili. For the price you pay, I did expect more. However I am always up for giving restaurants a second try, as you don't know what factors made the dishes comes out like that.

Max was outstanding. Some of the best customer service we've had. Visited for a birthday meal and he made it so special. The rest of the team were also fantastic when food was brought out, polite, funny and because of all this I would definatley go back. Great restaurant.
