Tipu Sultan MaJestic Dining in Birmingham

I called on Sunday afternoon to inquire about private seating areas suitable for families. The person I spoke with seemed preoccupied and was not very helpful in answering my questions. Initially, they indicated that they did not offer private seating; however, after I mentioned the enclosed seating areas shown in online photos, they acknowledged the presence of booths but could not guarantee their availability. I felt their response was less than satisfactory, perhaps due to being overworked, and it influenced our decision to choose a different restaurant.

Ordered Lamb Curry and Spinach Curry and more …. and they all tasted old and like it was done it was a few a few days prior … and meat was not tender and tasted old

Food exceeded expectations. Especially the starters - the sultan chops was the star. Thanks to brother Hanif who was excellent throughout service.

I have celebrated my wife bday really food was delicious I feel indian taste here this restaurant fulfilled all the demands which I wanted. Staff was very cooperative and respectful.

Absolutely crap Ordered a lamb Karahi ZERO gravy Just plain meat and this is a new one I had chunks of green and red peppers. The karahi was dey as hell, ordered with a cheese nan which was undercooked and it has made me ill. tossers

1 star is a lot had very bad,dry tasteless food heared a lot about this seriously a small restaurant can provide better food. Manager is like he is Gordon Ramsay with such bad food.

Went here for Lunch today,as it was pretty much the only Indian restaurant open for lunch. The place itself is very handsome. And spotlessly clean. The food was very tasty and plenty of it. Even though our starters and main course arrived at the same time ! BUT, and this is a BIG BUT !!!!! If you are not of Asian heritage,you will be treated like you're really not welcome,either by the staff or other Asian diners. I got the real impression that "This is their place,and you really aren't welcome here" ! So even though the food was excellent,i felt very uncomfortable throughout the whole meal. You have been warned.

Too much ginger in the Chicken Masala but the lamb chops were amazing.

Food was fantastic. Had such a great Mughlai food after ages. Each and every dish we ordered was great taste. Service was upto mark and atmosphere is one of the best. Highly recommended when visiting Birmingham

Always visit Tipu Sultan when we're in Birmingham and the food never lets us down. Today we received excellent service from waiter Baber who was extremely friendly and took care of us from the second we entered to when we left. Baber made excellent recommendations and was very respectful and attentive.

Visita regularmente aquí, para reuniones y con amigos, y cada vez que la hospitalidad es excelente Bilal Bhai, Bassat Bhai, Rashid Bhai siempre nos hacen sentir muy bienvenidos. La atención al cliente es fantástica, especialmente Shahzad , muy profesional y muy conocedor del menú y de los ingredientes. Achari Gosht y Palak Gosht con tikka de queso generalmente va a. Very disappointed with the salmon tikka starter and in general any fish. It smelt and was raw and uncooked. The service wasn’t very good. The dal makhni was also horrible. The only decent item was the mango lassi.

Visitó con unos 20 amigos del trabajo. Servicio excepcionalmente lento y el personal a la entrada y dejando mal bannered y grosero. ¡No un ‘gracias’ o buenas noches simplemente ignorado! Por el precio que están cobrando hay un montón de otros lugares a los que ir con mejor comida, mejores calificaciones de higiene (este lugar es solo un 4 ) y personal que realmente aprecia su costumbre y no son de malos modales.

Best Place to visit with your friends and Family

Mashallah. Ample seating available for both small and large groups. The catering hall on the second floor offers for segregated gatherings such as weddings. The catering service is very good and the food is delicious. All meat is Halal and vegetarian options are available. Prayer hall available on the top floor and toilets are generally clean.

The portion of food per plate has been downsized dramatically since January 2025

The moment we walked in the staff treated us as if we shouldn't be there. Giving us snide looks and having a rude temperament towards us. Food was luke warm when it arrived and very bland, just masked with chilli to cover up the lack of flavour. They refused to give us tap water for a couple of jugs on the table. Had to buy their ridiculously priced bottle watered. This place cares more about their pretentious decor and then they do about service and food quality.

Gave a friend the runs the next day. We ordered loads of dishes. One of them was really bad so we tried sending it back. Waitor argued with us saying it was fine. It ended up being the only dish that wasn't eaten. Terrible customer service. Mango lassi was dead and so was the daal and roti

My son’s future in-laws came to the uk from Saudi. Both families met and wanted to show the in-laws a nice meal. So embarrassed food was absolutely disgusting, swimming in grease. Never going there again.

Went here for dinner with the family, 4 adults, 2 kids, and an infant. The place looks fantastic inside and out, with very convenient onsite parking. We were seated quickly, and the ambiance immediately impressed, it definitely looks the part. However, the service fell short. Despite the restaurant not being at full capacity, many staff members were standing around chatting. Kudos to the few who were running around and working hard, but we had to chase the waitstaff to order drinks, food, and even request the bill, which was disappointing. As for the food, we ordered nihari, gosht achari, chicken peshwari, murgh biryani, mix grill, chana daal, chat, plain rice, naan, a jug of lassi, and mocktails. (Wanted a chicken Karahi on the bone however they didn't do this and recommended the peshwari chicken.) Everything was fantastic! The nihari, daal, mix grill and chicken peshwari were the highlights, absolutely fire. The biryani was flavorful with perfectly fluffy rice. The gosht achari was a bit too tangy for my taste, but the mix grill was a hit with both kids and adults. Overall, the food was brilliant, but the service needs to match the standards of the food... Thus the 4 stars.

I reviewed 4 years back with 2 stars need to amend it to 1 star , the improvement goes on , what a pathetic place , Rush , Noisy , congested seating , not recommended for private peaceful dining , the menu is so basic nothing special in it , we ordered peshawari on bone chicken , The original peshawari style is slow cooked with very light spices but this was horribly hot with red chillies , the pineapple mango salad was small chunks nearly tasteless , the service was like dhaba where the waiters just leave food and run for next order. If you want to get disappointed after visiting and curse your spending, Feel free to visit other wise NOT Recommended

Heard lot about this place thought give it a try, very disappointed with the food sultani chops was awful, there are better places up north with better food and curries. Peshawari lamb curry was okay just boiled meat with masala not the greatest. Wouldn't recommend the sultani chops, mocktail was just strawberry syrup nothing great

Very nice venue, beautiful inside, all staff very nice and friendly, only thing to improve is maybe more toilets, only one toilet for 100s of guests is a bit bad, the food was pretty decent, starters were very nice especially the fish, i dont like fish, but this one was so good i had multiple rounds haha, very good venue

Today on New year's eve went for a dinner. Ordered fish pakora and lamb chops which were cooked properly and came with delicious chuttni and mix salad.Had a big glass of salty lassi.Hubby ordered ghost karahi for main dish.Simply loved there falooda. Loved the quiet atmosphere of Tipu Sultan.I recommend this place .

Fatima looked after my family and I exceptionally well. The food was great and it didn’t take very long for us to be seated despite being a walk-in on the Friday before Christmas. The lady at reception was lovely too!

One of the most reliable restaurants in Birmingham, been there many times over a decade and each time the quality of food is good. Samosa chaat, green chicken and lamb chops are always favourite starters. Chicken tikka, ghosth palak, daals are always spot on and their naans are freshly made so tasty that can eat on its own. Good place to go for a family meal, party or professional dinner as the ambience is great and you can call an book a table in a suitable place. Good parking space too.

It's a nice restaurant enjoyable food was good too. Butter chicken was a bit too creamy and not for me. Enjoyed other dishes better.

Always good food and well presented

I was shocked that after spending over 70 pound on food and drink, they refused us tap water. They offered us to buy bottled water. I thought it was Law that restaurants have to provide tap water. Not happy customer.

Absolutely awful place the staff are rude and very unhelpful. The food was vile. Two people out of my group of 9 people couldn’t eat the butter chicken it tasted like to tomato soup. When we asked for the manager it took 40 minutes for him to finally come over. When ordering our food the very rude waitress told one of our group he wasn’t allowed to order it as it will be too spicy for him. (How would she know how spicy he likes his food was this based on his appearance??) I asked for some tap water with my food to be told they don’t give tap water and if I want water I must pay £3.50 for a bottle. And to top it off when the bill came they had added items onto it that we hadn’t even ordered!! We drew all these issues to the mangers attention when he finally came to our table who did absolutely nothing to try and rectify the issues. Appalling food and service do not waste your money !!!

Love love love their food, service and everything is just on point. Everything on their menu is just delicious. A server was just amazing on our visit unfortunately I have forgotten his name. He made our evening very special and so friendly.

Wr wr served by Babar, and he provided excellent service, must say staff like Babar keeps the good name of Tipu Sultan.

Portion of meat was good, although the taste of meat felt a bit off, compared to last time we ordered this item.

Countless visits and they never fail in service or taste. My god their sultani chops and nihari are the best for me in the UK! Sam was an absolute pleasure in this visit. She even wished me happy birthday, her service and care was spot on! Cannot fault Tipu at all. Onlyyy that they NEED to open a branch in London ASAP! Thanks hahaha

They don't let you bring your own mayo????

Cannot fault the food which was excellent. Service was professional, attentive and the staff were very pleasant. The big problem was with the temperature in the big dining hall. This place was absolutely freezing and we sat in 3 different areas trying to find somewhere even slightly warm. We mentioned this to the staff. 90%l of the customers kept their hats and coats on.

Order not delivered. Did not receive a single call from the restaurant. When I contacted the restaurant, the person on the phone refused to return my money and hung up the phone. I want my money back.

The pieces of chicken were too few. Most of the box was filled up with the masala gravy. The level of spice was about right.

Terrible place. Customer service is shocking. Brought my own mayonnaise as they don't usually have them in Indian restuarants and got told this is "cross contaminarion". I am trying to enjoy my food which is why I have come to a restuarant to spend £100. The food and service i had in HMP Birmingham was more superior and free.

We have dined in and done many takeaways from this restaurant.Their lamb chops are absolutely delicious. We always order two portions and that's the only dish my husband and I won't share! The rest of their dishes are quite flavourful like the paneer, chilli lamb, papdi chaat etc Only small critique would be some of dishes are little oily.

Food was nice. Waiters were friendly but didn't seem to know what they were doing. Bringing orders to the wrong tables. Prices are reasonable.

Great food and great service, only thing I would say is, I requested just one glass of tap water and the waiter advised I will have to purchase a bottle, I stated I needed it for my medication but he replied that it is the restaurant policy. I then went on to say it is a legal requirement that you have to supply tap water whenever requested to which he said he will refer to management. After about 10 minutes of discussing with management the waiter came with a glass of water. This is very poor service for such a grand restaurant, prior to this i had such a great time with the food etc only to be disappointed with this simple request. Tipu Sultan you need to change your policy and read up on legal requirements when it comes to a simple glass of water and that, for medical purposes.

Very majestic! Beautiful place and lovely customer service. We ordered mixed grill and lamb karahi, very tasty and cooked properly. Full of flavours! Will deffo be coming back :).
