Visited for one of their sunrise sessions and had such a lovely morning, even in the grey and gloomy weather. We were greeted by friendly staff that were all so happy and cheerful, despite the early hour. We decided to still sit outside and the guys kindly made sure there was a dry spot for us. They even had blankets on hand for anyone who gets a little chilly. We both opted for the loaded crumpets and were really impressed, it was deceivingly filling and very tasty. It’s such a cute and quirky little place with amazing views of the coast and river, I highly recommend giving them a visit.

Orginally popped in to Tin of Sardines Roker for a few drinks with friends. The staff were very attentive and friendly. After a few drinks, I fancied some food - and were informed that they do charcuterie boards. As the others in the group had already ate prior to meeting, I didn’t want a full sized board - so the man on the bar offered to make me a smaller personal sized board. I was absolutely blown away by the amount of food I got! As pictured below, the board was jam packed with a selection of meats, cheeses - I also got olives crackers and some chutney. Really fresh, tasty and great value. Not to mention the stunning views over Roker. 10/10 recommend a visit to this little gin bar

Me a some friends visited has been here before for drinks so decided to pop down for drinks tonight and try their cheese and charcuterie board. At first glance we were pleased with the amount of food that was put on our tables but then upon inspection thought it looked a little funny. The cured meats were absolutely fine as you’d expect but amongst these meats was: chopped peparami, pre cooked tikka chicken slices (the type you get in a packet from a supermarket) and sandwich sliced chicken and stuffing slices. Despite that it was unusual to be on a charcuterie board, we would usually like these things regardless so dug in. The tika chicken slices were so warm and tasted really off we immediately could not eat it and didn’t dare the chicken and stuffing slices. The cheese board had square chunks of plain cheddar on (the sort you’d get at a children’s party on a skewer) and a few other strange yet boring cheeses that we found a few hairs amongst. After this we really couldn’t eat anything and admitted to the staff that they could take it away as we wouldn’t be eating anymore. The staff were so apologetic and lovely but explained that the chicken was probably warm because they keep the packet on the ledge above the fridge where hot air blows out. I kindly explained to her that unfortunately out of all meets chicken really shouldn’t be kept there and needs to be refrigerated. They kindly offered us a refund and were so lovely about the mishap I couldn’t fault their manner. We remained here for more drinks as the atmosphere and service was good despite the food. During our stay we watched as other customers received cheese and charcuterie boards that looked very different (much better) to ours. Their boards had a wedge of Brie on (we had no soft cheese at all), no cubes of cheap party cheddar, actual slices of salami sausage rather than the packets you get thinly sliced in the supermarkets, and chutneys (which we had none of). It was also good that none of these customers had no chicken on theirs. In future we won’t be eating here but will happily purchase drinks due to the unpredictable nature of their food service.

W've been coming here virtually since it opened. Food used to be very good and of average prices. The last 3 times we had issues with the drinks. We had a bacon sandwich today £12 for 2 bacon sandwiches. It was basic bacon , ( half of the bacon was fat, on both sandwiches), in-between 2 over dried slices bread. Thought it was croutons it was that hard. My wife and I have noticed over period of time prices going up and quality going down. So disappointed used to be handy place for us.

I have looked forward to going here for a while, then read the reviews and thought uh~ho! I needn’t have worried. I had the hash breakfast bowl and my husband had the full English breakfast both very tasty. The service was great, the food was lovely and cooked to order, the staff were very pleasant and the views were good even on an overcast day. We really enjoyed it and will be back on evening for drinks.

I looked forward to visiting this place for the first time , I will certainly not be returning . Awful customer service, upon arrival a staff member opened the locked door ( I assumed it was locked to keep the wind from blowing it open , Hiwever now wonder if it was to keep people in !!! First impressions are really important , as we were let in, the staff did not speak at all , we wandered in wondering if we had to sit anywhere as was not guided, after sitting down , we were not approached by any staff member , it was quiet and after about 5 mins had to go to ask for a menu and if we could order a drink ! Whilst placing the order the staff turned away from the bar ( where she had been sat chatting and looking at her phone ) and took the order with her back to us . The food was very mediocre were like rubber and the sauce was like tinned chopped tomatoes with chilli and onions added. We were not given condiments which we again had to approach the bar to ask for ! Stall sat talking and ignored the customers . I would not recommend visiting here which is a shame as the views were beautiful, I would recommend that they invest in some staff training . My friend and I felt more looks intruders than customers !

First time i had visited the Tin of Sardines, and I was excited to try it. Reserved a table for Saturday brunch, but didn’t need to as it was quiet. Was told where to sit on arrival but wasn’t told to order at the bar, so we were left unsure if it was table service or not and eventually gave up and went to the bar. Ordered a shashuka which I’ve had many times in other restaurants. When it arrived it didn’t look appealing and it tasted worse. It was as if they’d just got a tin of tomatoes and put two eggs on top and baked it until the eggs resembled a sole of a shoe. The ‘sourdough’ toast wasn’t toast, it was heated stale bread and the service was a load of rubbish too. 3-4 people just standing round doing nothing. Tables uncleared, no cutlery in the pots on the tables. When I said the eggs were inedible they said they knew their timings weren’t right. Won’t be back.

What a shame. Came here for Mother’s Day brunch, six in total, two mothers and two kids. The service was really awful. The menus were sticky and dirty, no one came to tell us what to do and we sat for a good ten minutes with two hungry young kids. After a lot of waiting to catch someone’s eye behind the bar we eventually went and ordered. Considering how small it is, the whole thing from start to finish was all over the place. We asked for kids crumpets with Nutella only to be told no Nutella so we said we’d go for peanut butter instead only to be told no peanut butter (there are three shops nearby) and the kids hd been looking forward to this for days. We asked for the crumpets but just with the other bits and not the Nutella (it came with cream, cookie sprinkles and berries) so after about twenty five minutes of waiting as the last part of the brunch order it finally came out with packets of butter. The staff clearly didn’t know the menu, when we asked again for it with the other bits on she came back with two pots of squirty cream. By this point it was all a bit embarrassing and my 3 year old was starving so we just got her to put it on. Best still, we realised after we were still charged £7 for crumpets with butter and with no Nutella, cream, cookie sprinkles or berries. Bless the staff but they didn’t have a clue, they were young and didn’t seem to be well trained or managed and seemed more interested in getting back behind the bar to pour themselves cokes from the soda machine. Genuinely it was as if we were in the way! Me and my brother were joking saying we felt bad taking up their time! It really soured what should have been a lovely get together. It’s really put me off 🙈 I was at YOLO for a coffee and toast earlier in the day and the whole experience was different - much better. I won’t be back.

Visited on a very busy Saturday night and made the mistake of ordering from the cocktail menu. The member of staff serving us was possibly new so understandably was not familiar with the ingredients but we waited for 15 minutes to be served four drinks which when they came were definitely not worth the wait. I was asked to pay and then 'hang around' near the bar to wait for the drinks which is easier said than done when the bar is so busy! I would recommend going down to Coast on the front if you want a decent margarita and stick to gin when visiting Tin of Sardines.

Brunch not great. The bowls for the hash are far too small. The flavours of my hash (classic) a bit too odd together. They had run out of a few items across the 4 brunches we ordered but we weren’t told this until the food was served (such as sourdough bread). The crumpets aren’t served with butter before the the toppings are put on so quite dry. I would have loved just a classic eggs royale but they appear to be trying to be a bit different and I’m not sure it works. Love the terrace facing sea although you get lucky if you get one right at the edge - you can’t book them. The staff need more training.

As soon as we walked through the door we were made to feel very welcome, we ordered drinks and sat on the terrace with such an amazing view. Our daughter ordered a margarita cocktail and rated it 11/10! She is a cocktail maker in a cocktail bar and so it must have been good! We ordered 6 plates of tapas which were delicious, fresh and very moreish. We had a perfect evening here and will definitely be returning later in the week.

The location of this branch of Sardines is truly special with a wonderful view from the deck across the harbour and out to sea. On a beautiful sunny day it was the perfect place to sit with old friends and enjoy a drink and a chat after brunch. Sadly the food, on this occasion at least, seems to be an afterthought. The full English consisted of poor quality ingredients which had the appearance of having been in the hot cupboard overnight - leathery sausage I wouldn't give to a dog, bacon so dried out it was impossible to chew, greasy potato balls, rubbery mushrooms, almost every item on the plate looked and tasted like leftovers. The exception was my poached eggs on sourdough which were very good. My friend's eggs however were overdone although she said the black pudding was ok. It's a pity our experience of the food here prevents us from recommending to anyone. The staff weren't particularly friendly or attentive and having enquired whether everything was ok the server then left our plates sitting on the table for twenty minutes before one of my friends got up and cleared them away herself. The experience with a glass of wine outside on the deck was much better so by all means do that but avoid the brunch!

Called in for a bacon sandwich and a coffee with a friend, there were 2 bar staff constantly talking, very unfriendly and completely uninterested in serving us. We had to ask for cutlery and then only given 1 knife to share between 2. We then had to ask twice for napkins. Staff are totally disinterested in customers.

We went for brunch and were not impressed at all. The service is dire. My husband is quite clearly disabled, unsteady and walks with a stick. He ordered our drinks at the bar assuming as there were two members of staff sitting at the bar on their phones, that one would have carried the drinks over to our table. They didn't budge or offer. When I saw him struggling with them, I went to get them. We decided to have the slice of sourdough with topping, his with breakfast items on top, I chose the crab but unfortunately there was none left so I went for the bacon, avocado and poached egg. No one came to take our food order, they just sat at the bar. The avocado had far too much lime in it so it tasted unpleasant. It is expensive for the amount of food. The two drinks alone came to £12 . The balcony area is nice for when it's sunny.

Have been twice in June, both times have ordered from the brunch menu. First visit was after 1pm and unfortunately a number of the brunch items had sold out. Order from the ‘crumpets’ menu. Although tasty I was disappointed that I was served 1 crumpet with toppings for £8. Second visit ordered the hash bowl, food was delicious but could have done with being in a larger bowl as this size of the bowl did make it difficult to eat. Venue itself is lovely, the terrace was busy both times but didn’t feel crowded. Great that it is dog friendly. Staff were pleasant, however could have been more attentive as had to ask for cutlery and was not asked how food was after it was brought to the table.
