Thyme Out Cafe in Denbighshire

Always come here. Always used to buzzer system. Waitress saw us go in. Completely ignored us. after 10 mins and 2 buzzes I had to go to the counter. To be told by and extremely rude waitress “ it’s not buzzer service anymore”. I says it may have nice to be told. “ it is on the table”. Then when my son went up to order he was told it’s the second time it’s happened this morning. Then maybe Theresa problem. I suggest the staff gave training ion how to talk to the general public.

Awful been a patron of this establishment for years lunch served over cooked omelette only just warm...pie and mash looked disgusting and only just warm also paid for our drinks and left couldn't even eat a bite what a huge disappointment after so many good meals have been enjoyed there will never go back

Fantastic experience! A cheap but hearty breakfast! Good quality food,friendly staff, fast service there's not much more you could ask for. Staff members Chloe and Charlie were very friendly, very helpful and attentive! Will definitely do a second visit

Great food for the price and a good selection on the menu . Me and my partner had the big breakfast (bacon especially was spot on ) and were served by happy pleasant staff who went above and beyond to look after us , great drink’s especially the ice cream milkshakes and at such a central spot in town we will definitely return for value for money and service

Poor coffee...they don't know how to make a cappuccino...it was just a bitter coffee with milk on the top... and it was expensive...wouldn't go their again!

Cannot fault the serving staff they are friendly but the food was poor for the price and I could've made better at home, some items even came out burnt

Expensive bland food staff that don’t give a toss because they are children 12 pound for a below average breakfast of poor quality ingredients is expensive even for the town center very limited menu wouldn’t go back even though it is very convenient location for all of us such a shame

Gf sausage and bacon sandwich - came out like a club sandwich with the thickest best bacon I think I’ve ever eaten. Cooked SO perfectly. My friend’s sourdough egg and bacon roll I was informed was also a delight. Lovely cappuccino Lovely staff Overall delighted to find this little gem

I went to Thyme Out this morning and I would just like to say that the staff are hugely welcoming. The reason I chose this cafe was because they had advertised a play area. For me personally I feel that the toys were very run down (even broken in some cases) and dirty, which is a great shame as they have brilliant wall murials and some iPads for the older children, so it is a great space. That said, my child did have fun. I'm terms of drinks my latte was tasty and the carrot cake was really good. The food and drink was more than I would normally pay, but the cafe is central to the Town, so it may well be in keeping with other cafes in that area. One thing that shocked me this morning; was that I got to the cafe just after opening this morning and all of the highchairs were dirty! None of them had been wiped over since the last baby had used them, so I wet wiped down before use. Overall musings: The cafe has a nice feel to it and they have plenty for everyone, they just need to work on the hygiene of the highchairs and hopefully some better toys will be donated.

My husband had thefish and chips, amazing portion and freshly cooked and myself Chicken Ceaser salad, lovely staff and relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend.

I recently asked Thyme Out if they could help plan a 12th birthday little ladies cream tea party - they exceeded all possible expectations and totally knocked it out the park! The girls were 'served' had bubble Tea, wonderfully presented and cooked finger foods and mini cakes that looked too pretty to eat! They had a bottle of bubbles and had birthday balloons and decorations - the staff, chef went above and beyond and the entire party was simply superb - I cannot recommend the place highly enough, the food, service all outstanding for any occasion party or otherwise. we will be back again and again! Thank you for making her day special, Much appreciated as was a very important thing for us as a family x

Reading other reviews it seemsto be pot luck if you get great service and food or not. We were not lucky. The waitress to be far was trying quite hard, but clearly stressed. Yes, it was very busy, but having pre booked we expected them to factor in we were coming. They have put in more tables than they can cope with, it was over crowded. The food I had was nice, but my friends afternoon tea was over priced and not really an afternoon tea, and definitely not as described in the menue. £22 for one person and the cake was a muffin, with some ginger bread men! Not served on a cake stand type thing as pictured, no way was it even with current prices for food worth the money. Also slow service and the ipads they used to take orders seemed to make things worse as not everything was actually listed properly on the system! Coffe nice though

Quick breakfast seriously over priced for what you get even for a town center don’t recommend unless you’re not paying the bill

Our family of four came in yesterday for the first time we'll we wernt impressed I know it was busy just like all the other cafes in town the waitress that served us was nice and friendly which is allways good. Our table was dirty with previous customers sticky drink and food on the table luckily we had wet wipes on us to clean up. The children's play area is a big area for a few children to play in but it was all dirty hasn't been washed down for a long time which is sad I expect a lot of children use the area and a lot more would if its cleaner.

I had the large breakfast which was poor. The sausages and bacon were okay but not of great quality, the eggs were barely fried at all, the black pudding and mushrooms were hard, the beans and fried bread were cold. My hot chocolate was nice but overpriced for the amount I received. My families breakfasts were average but they also found the bacon and sausage poor quality and the drinks over priced. I very much doubt we will be returning

I don't live here. Looking on first day of hols for a good cup of coffee and found this place. Explained to lady serving how I liked my coffee and I do know how I want it. She made it to perfection. It was £3.50 but worth it. My friend had a rum, caramel chocolate drink . It was £7.00. It looked delicious. It was a tad expensive but had rum in it. We went back the next day as we had so much enjoyed it. We have tried many cafes since and the coffee undrinkable. We will probably go again before we go home in a couple of days

Such a lovely atmosphere and great service. We were made to feel really welcome even with a dog. Would highly recommend and will definately be coming back again. The scones are HUGE!!

We came here for something to eat and rest our poor little feet after walking around Torquay. We both had a cream tea. My partner had tea with her scone, and I had coffee. The tea was loose with a strainer in the tea pot. She enjoyed the flavour and quality. The fruit scone was warm and very tasty. We will definitely come back on our next outing to Torquay.

Myself and my friend ate here as it is a locally owned cafe. We were very satisfied with the food and especially the service. The latte coffee is the best we had in our 5 day visit to torquay. Lovely atmosphere. Clean and tidy areas. We'll definitely visit again on our next trip to the area. We would highly recommend this lovely cafe

This was our second visit to this café after discovering it the previous year. We chose two different quiches and were amazed at both the portion sizes (very generous) and the quality of the quiches. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the service excellent and the meals delicious. Would happily recommend this to anyone visiting the area.

Had the homemade quiche. It was a lovely size portion, really tasty and affordable. Had a green smoothie which was great too and the coke came in a full size bottle - not in a glass filled with ice. I prefer to eat anywhere that's not a chain and support local businesses wherever possible, which can sometimes be hit and miss, but I would not hesitate to visit here again! Would recommend to anyone in the area / visiting Torquay.

Was looking forward to revisiting after having a lovely meal here last Easter. How disappointed we were. I’m assuming it must of changed hands since our last visit. The prices are extortionate for what you get. The plates are half full with horrible lettuce leaves and then you only get a small portion of the actual meal! At least double the price of what it should be (and that would be with chips thrown in, not having to pay for them on top). Really really disappointed and probably won’t bother coming back next time we are in the area. Service wasn’t great either and we had to chase up missing items :(

This is one of our favourite cafes in Torquay. We notice that the friendly staff always greet guests as they walk in the door and the quality of the food and service is excellent. With a boat in the nearby Marina it is also a very nice alternative to use when the harbourside cafes and restaurants are "rammed" at peak times; albeit it's a little further to walk, but you can also pick up a bit of shopping on your way there. We really hope this lovely cafe does well in our high street.

Went for lunch as part of a short holiday at Torquay in Burlington Hotel with National Holidays. Nice modern surroundings, clean and well decorated, was greeted by a friendly member of staff she explained, there was a device on the table to press for orders....

Arrived in Torquay after an eventful journey. Found myself in the centre of town feeling hot and hungry. Tried Thyme Out.. Impressed by Covid-19 precautions include a table top device to call staff when you were ready to order or pay. Chicken/bacon salad was tasty...

Having plenty of choice of where to eat in Torquay this looked inviting. It was modern and clean and very good first impressions. We went in the entrance and was confused what to do. There was no signage to say wait to be seated but with menus on the side and tables reserved it didn’t seem like a sit yourself down type of eatery. We edged forward in the doorway further in towards the bar and the staff were unhelpful just looking towards us watching us enter. Finally someone came over and asked if we wanted a table so we was shown to one. We was informed to ring a button when we was ready to order. So when we decided we rang the button and no one came. We waited another 5 mins and rang again. Still no one came despite numerous of staff walking sluggishly past not really doing much other than cleaning menus and putting glasses away so we had to go up to the bar and the waitress said someone will be over. We waited and finally someone did come over and took our order. We was told there was 1/2 an hour wait which was okay as we had an hour so didn’t seem a problem. We got our drinks after another wait and the milkshake was very good. The smoothie was nice but served in a glass that had the outside peeling off which looked awful and shouldn’t of been used. We then got a bottle of tap water and glasses. Then another member of staff came over with another bottle and more glasses despite having one already and said we can have another one. we waited 50 mins for the food to come and it was a long 50 mins. We could hear every word from the kitchen as they were very loud signing and shouting which was echoing through the restaurant. And it was only 1/2 full so if it’s ever busy please don’t bother coming in at all unless you have all day. The food finally come and was served in a guy in shorts and a sports top. Another emerged too in jeans and a t shirt. Strange uniform when others are dressed professionally. There was 2 very small bacon rashers in the panini which for the price was poor but it tasted nice but could do with a bit more cheese in the panini but the chips were cold. Only reason this is not a 1 star is we had 25% off because of the wait but it really was poor from start to finish and we had to rush off as we had been in the place for 90 mins and had to get a bus otherwise we would have said more when we was there but we had to eat it quickly. The staff just seemed really lacking any sort of energy and all just seemed to walk around in no rush at all but were very friendly which is a shame as it did seem like it could have been so much better .

Stopped purely by chance and we weren’t disappointed, the staff were all very friendly and really helpful. The food was very tasty and well presented. Would happily recommend this place and would definitely revisit in the future.

Social distancing was in place and tables were well spaced and wiped down after every customer. Our first visit was on a Sunday lunch time. The cream tea was delicious, the scone was still warm. The Gammon Wrap was so full of meat that the wrap was barely rolled. My partner said that the Dirty Fries with bacon were the best he'd ever had. We enjoyed the food so much that we decided to return on the Wednesday. The cafe was very busy (eat out to help out perhaps) but a member of staff told us no table available but offered us a table if we returned 30 mins later. We returned and were promptly seated.. Another delicious cream tea complete with warm scone was had. The Gammon wrap this time had hardly any filling (was this due to the eat out to help out price reduction?) . The food was all tasty but we felt a little disappointed by the reduced portion sizes of the second visit. Staff were friendly and helpful at all times. Good value for money and would still recommend

The place was good for social distancing and had hand sanitiser on arrival but no NHS track and trace which they show on their Facebook? Staff seemed like they didn't want to serve anyone. It took a long time to get anybody's attention even to get a table and they were not that busy at the time. Our table was quite near the bar and I heard them a number of times complaining, moaning, or having a gossip, ignoring tables that were sitting around impatiently. I was delighted to see they had vegan fish and chips on the menu. I have enjoyed this everywhere I go (even though I am not vegan, I just like to try new things). I was immediately made aware that it would not be the usual battered courgette and aubergine but a mixed veg and I agreed this would be okay - expecting nice fresh veg. Instead, I received what can only be described as what was once frozen stir fry mix - a weird mix of baby corn, peppers, green beans, and random other bits that were absolute MUSH. Not only that but they were in a really light batter that was more tempura than fish and chips. All other vegan fish and chips I have had have been rolled in seaweed or have some form of seaweed taste in the batter mix. There was absolutely none of this. No fish taste at all. It should just be battered veg and chips.Just because it has the sides of fish and chips, doesn't make it that. For what it was and portion size, the price was extortionate too. For dessert, I decided to have what I am used to being a 'nice refreshing bubble milk tea'. Again, was excited for this, it's not often you find bubble tea in Devon. It was disgusting. It was HOT sweetened milk with a few tapioca pearls at the bottom. REAL bubble milk tea is flavoured with tea, a bit of sweetener and topped with a bit of milk and the pearls. It is also ICED. Not served hot. One sip and my stomach lurched. We paid the bill (which was way too high for what we ordered..) and went home. I was fine for ages when I got home but my stomach was gurgling a lot and I had nasty pains. I thought nothing of it but I didn't eat anything but a few crackers that evening as I still felt bad. The minute I got to bed, I was violently sick and was sick for hours on end. Nothing in my routine that day had been different or what I had ate apart from what was in Thyme Out. I won't be returning and will not be recommending either. I'm sad to say, the place was just expensive and really not up to standards. After the night of throwing up I had, I wouldn't risk it.

Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious, freshly made food. Thyme Out is one of the best places to eat out in Torquay.

Visited for a spot of lunch and was so impressed. Staff were absolutely wonderful and food was delicious. Clean and open space and staff were very attentive and so friendly and lovely.

Visited here few weeks back. Quality of food and service compared to pricing was laughable. Prices need reducing by a minimum of 50% in my opinion. Service needs a big improvement also. Slow, forgetful and at times, quite rude. Me and my partner left feeling a bit ripped off to be honest. . Won’t be returning ever again at current price point and standard of service.

Popped in here for a bite to eat for lunch while on holiday. What a find. Excellent service and brilliant food.

COVID measures being followed correctly. Friendly staff. Food hot on arrival. I ordered fish and chips and my partner had the sausage, onion and mustard sandwich. The fish batter was a little soggy and lacked seasoning but the chips and peas were ok, average at best, but alright. My partner enjoyed his sausage sandwich. 3* cafe

Absolute joyous place to be. A well knowledgeable waitress with red hair serviced us for our entire visit and did a flawless job. A well spread menu had something for everybody. This may be our first thyme, but it won't be our last.

To begin with we were ignored when we first walked in. So then had to find our own seats. Eventually we were brought some menus over. One girl with ginger curly hair came and took our order. She then took it over to the lad behind the counter making the drinks-he was working his socks off! Hats off to him. However, the wait was still incredibly long and they weren’t overly busy. But that’s not the worst part.... After receiving our food we saw the ginger girl put lip balm on with her finger. She then carried on serving food without washing her hands. We are in the middle of a pandemic and she does that! I was absolutely disgusted. The lad behind the counter kept stroking his fingers through his hair...No wonder disease transmission is so high! I was speechless. I wish I hadn’t eaten the food!

Four of us had a great lunch when we popped into Torquay. Service was good and the food came out piping hot and was delicious. The chicken nacho burger comes highly recommended ! Social distancing was well in place and observed by those seated around us.

Called in today for a unplanned lunch our 1st trip out after lock down and we were not disappointed well done, you did everything right we were nervous as it was our first dining out experience in so long...the food was fabulous and filling we will definitely return there on our next trip out, well done to the whole team.

Afternoon tea in this lovely little cafe with lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of little treats with the afternoon tea without it being overwhelming - give this lovely little place a visit it’s well worth it.

A lovely spacious cafè with friendly, helpful staff and a lovely area for kids to play. They have table service with call buttons on the table so you can press a button and the staff will come to you. Great food and served in a timely manner. Only downside is as far as I could see the is only one toilet. But a great visit and woukd deffinately reccomend and visit again.

Had lunch here today with my son. We both had a really good meal of Fish n Chips. My son had a veggie smoothie and I a Pomegranate and Elder-flower Presse. Enjoyed the food and the experience. Staff were lovely.

Waited an hour for food.When it came my 2 friends couldnt eat their meals.One couldnt cut it and one Macaroni Cheese not cooked.Complained to the waitress who accused me of shouting at her which is difficult when you have hardly any voice.She then told me she didnt like my attitude Well hers was appalling.She has obviously never heard of customer care.My friends left having had nothing to eat.Will never go back there.Bring the original owner back from Ivybridge before his restaurant fails altogether!!!!

We had nearly given up on finding a good place to eat when we went into Thyme out. From the lovely welcome when we walked in to the goodbye and have a good day we were treated with great courtesy and respect. The food was well presented, freshly prepared and delicious.I highly recommend this cafe for its food, comfort and welcome.

I've been to Thyme Out a few times and really enjoy not only the food but also the atmosphere. I am currently breast feeding my first child and it can be stressful finding places that make you feel comfortable so am really happy with the fact they have no problem with breast feeders here and are also super friendly. the food portions are large, well presented and tasty with a great selection including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free. They also have a baby changer in the toilet and a fun children's play area for younger kids.

I've been to Thyme Out a couple of times now and each visit is so amazing! The menu is vast, caters to everyone and has many options for vegetarians, vegans and gluten free. All food is fresh and homemade and you can absolutely tell, each person in my group always have the nicest meals and the quantity and quality is exceptional. The place is always sparkling clean and the food is fresh and delicious. There is this little button system thing where you can order your food and drinks, request the bill and ask any questions which is so unique and each member of staff are so lovely, friendly, polite and nothing is too much trouble for them! They even have a play area for the little ones. Couldn't rate this place more and i always recommend it to everyone and even they come back and say how amazing it is!!! One of the best in Torquay by far!

Returned two sandwiches due to chicken breast being very pink and also appearing quite slimey due to high water content. Chef came out and rudely and aggressively confronted me with the two sandwiches in his hand attempting to return them and insisting it was cooked because he had probed it. There were no apologies or respect just rudeness and a poor customer service. I then asked if it was cooked from frozen chicken due to the pink appearance and water content and he insisted it was fresh and continued to be confrontational saying I was making out he couldn't do his job properly. This wasn't the case and I just didn't expect pink chicken on a sandwich that cost £8. After asking to see the chicken he used the chef refused and continued to argue insisting it was cooked, he eventually stormed off saying he will cook it again. I refused the re-cook, paid for my drinks and walked up the road to Green Leaf Cafe for a more positive experience. I have never been so rudely treated, confronted and argued with by a chef and feel thus is a sure fire way to lose customers. No apologies from the lady behind the till either (who did look a bit embarrassed by the whole thing). Overpriced menu, poorly executed food with low quality ingredients and appealing customer service to top it. Avoid

I was visiting the cinema with my 5 year old girl and 6 year old boy, although the play area in there is perhaps a little small it didn’t stop them having a lovely time and playing with the other children.. the service buttons are amazing and the staff are prompt friendly and accommodating. It’s so nice to be able to take the weight off for an hour or so knowing everything is taken care of. The food was also to a brilliant standard which says a lot considering I only had a salad. I did see other dishes coming out though which looked fantastic. They were very friendly to my children and myself. I would definitely come here again!

Lovely clean cafe.. never eaten in there before and was very impressed with the cleanliness and friendly welcome. The food was excellent with a great selection to choose from. Very friendly staff and great service. Electronic device to alert staff when your ready to order and when you would like the bill was a great addition. I would definitely recommend.

Liked this place had a vegetarian breakfast and was one of the best I've had Very nice inside and good service

Visited for the first time ordered a Latte and door stop sandwich from "Today's" specials board.For the price charged very poor value for money, not even prime sea view establishments charge £10.55 for two pieces of small bread and a Latte.The accompanying salad leafs would of been better had they consisted of a little few other salad items. An elderly couple asked if ordinary sandwiches were available as most people expect a sandwich to consist of four quarters, they left without purchasing anything.To succeed in this difficult market value for money is essential. Your staff on the other hand were very welcoming and the service was prompt.

Just popped in as walking by and found a great place. Great coffee and friendly service. Excellent baby changing facilities for the little one. 100% recommended.

Visited Thyme Out for the first time today and how glad I am that I did. Beautiful surroundings , great staff , and the Fish and Chips was to die for. Beautifully battered and so fresh tasting. Superb. Thankyou

My wife and I visited a couple of times and enjoyed the coffee and a bite to eat. But then the menu changed and along with it the attitude of the staff.My wife ordered jacket potato with torn pork which was dry and burnt. Our daughter was subjected to mashed tomatoes on spaghetti which should have been a nice pasta source. It was brought to the attention of staff only to be made to feel inadequate with no apology. At the same time a different table complained about pink chicken only for them to be also abused by staff.

Visited today for lunch with my daughter. Although service is quick and the place is Very clean it's so over priced.A bottle of fanta £2.75Daughter had the buttermilk chicken breast burger.....or shall I say breaded half a chicken breast....god Only knows why they slide it and only give you half when your paying £10. Salad consists of 4 wispy leavesJacket potato was ok... hardly any topping and not what was described on the menu and again 4 wispy leaves plonked on the side all for the price of £8!No wonder at a sunny lunchtime in a busy town the place was empty....far too pricey... better off going to Subway a few doors down
