Was really looking forward to eating here but they dont do food and are not open half of the advertised hours very poor especially in August and now add in rude aswell what bad practice to reply in this way no wonder in peak season your business is failing no customer service what so ever absolutely disgusting update the owner tracked us down we're were staying to come and shout at us about our review absolutely delusional psycotic avoid at all costs

Called in here a couple of weeks ago for evening meal. Nice cosy location. Staff very friendly. Drinks choice good, home cooked food delicious. Highly recommended and look forward to returning.

We had a fantastic time at this pub! The atmosphere inside is very inviting with lots of cool stuff on the walls and comfy chairs, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a meal. We were impressed with the German food on offer. I had the pork schnitzel with chips, which was cooked to perfection - crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. My partner opted for the foot-long currywurst, and it was equally impressive. The portions are very generous, and the food quality is outstanding. Everything was cooked from scratch and tasted fresh and delicious. If you're looking for a place with great vibes and excellent food, this pub is a must-visit!

The Three Pigeons has really changed, it’s not a place for a comfortable stay. Our welcome was very cold, seemed like we were bothering the hosts. The beds and pillows are very uncomfortable. We were provided one towel per person for a week long stay. The hot water went out and the hosts were very difficult to locate. We tried to reach out to the host through the phone numbers that were provided and knocked on the door. We never heard a response from the host about the issue of the hot water. We decided to leave because we had been outside hiking and without hot water for the entire day with no communication from the hosts. There is no longer a food service, they do not serve food at the pub anymore. We were told to leave our skeleton key in the apartment and leave the doors unlocked during the day while we were out. There was a dog barking on the property so loud that it woke us up from sleeping. We noticed how thin the walls are when another guest was staying on the other side of the apartment and we could hear every conversation very clearly. The overall feeling was that it was not a comfortable stay. It’s very disappointing to fly across the ocean to visit friends in the area and have to find alternate accommodations after a very cold welcome and uncomfortable stay. There were plenty of ways to handle the hospitality issues, but they just weren’t addressed at all. It simply felt like we were a complete bother. I would never recommend this as a place to stay, check out the cabins seated right below the Three Pigeons. Entirely different ownership.

The Three Pigeons was undergoing a vast refurbishment when I visited so I wasn't able to sample their wares ...but we were welcomed like old friends - new landlord, but with a shared common interest. It must be 15 years + since we last visited the place - we attended a bike 🏍 rally here on our lovely BMW R45. It was cold, raining & I must have been tired - but we hardly had time to get off our bike before friends & familiar faces descended upon us! If God gave me 3 wishes, I'd want to relive that night 😁🥳🤎 ... we did it though, and I'm grateful for that. And this is what The Three Pigeons provides in spades - Memories...and good, lasting memories. Several lodges are under construction which we must give a go! SO - true to the landlords invitation to return in 12 months .. we will - and we look forward to re-living that night (albeit more 'restrained') of 15 years ago! PS ...Bikers still VERY welcome.

Lovely drinks, the building goes back to the old days and it's amazing. Would definitely recommend.

Loved our visit here last night. Not just the food, but the experience as a whole. A warm welcome with fun banter and chat throughout the night. Great selection of drinks including of course some German beers on tap. Sat right next to the cosy fire. HUGE food portions, but so damn tasty and fresh, absolutely first class. So nice to be able to go out and eat something different. I grew up eating German food so this was a real treat. Finished the night with a cocktail and testing each other with one of the quiz books. Perfect! Shame we are not local, whenever we are in the area we will be back. 10/10

Wow!!! Can’t believe how lucky I was to find this little gem!! Proper old pub with wide selection of drinks! As for the food, by far the best pub meal I’ve ever had, super fresh and home cooked and huge portions - serious value for money. The landlord and lady complete this little diamond of a place - really hope I find myself in this direction again as will definitely be stopping 🤩

We love this pub, it's how a pub should look and feel. Never fail to be crying with laughter as Nik is hilarious and the banter is non stop, took friends today for the first time and they loved it too. We ate schnitzel - be very hungry before you eat here as Julia is an amazing and generous cook and the freshly prepared food is more than worth the wait. Cheers m'dears! X

A very memorable experience. The barman is a character that’s for sure. One of the best schnitzels I’ve ever had. Cosy atmosphere and free comedy from the barman made for a great lunch

Something special, you think you can find it only in cities. German menu with English punk music and view to the Welsh mountains. We ate so much we couldn’t move for a while 😃everything was delicious and the owner is a special person 🤩

Lovely old pub. Good food - it is not often you get a chance to eat home cooked German food. It makes a change from pie and mash. Well worth a visit.

Lovely food, we tried the Bratwurst, Currywurst & burger, all were great. Large portions too, even the kids meal was a good size. Friendly staff. Dog friendly and nice views from garden. Will go back if we are in the area again.

An amazing pub with great service. Incredible views and great beer. The food is incredible and a hidden gem. Ate schnitzel in the best rated restaurant in Cologne last weekend and was amazed to say it is better here. It's incredible tasting authentic food. A very great place and would totally recommend

We decided to book a table here as we were visiting Ruthin and saw that it was dog-friendly. It is in a beautiful, quiet setting with stunning views and has a car park which is free to use for patrons. We took the opportunity to walk the dogs for a couple of miles in the nature reserve opposite, before entering the pub for some food and drink. Both of these were spot on. I tried the Hobgoblin session IPA and Butcombe ale which were both great. My wife had a lime and soda and a glass of Malbec, which was very nice indeed. We shared a starter of Pretzel Breads with Salami and Mustard. My main was the Pork Schnitzel and my wife had the Cheese and Pork Wurst with mash and sauerkraut. All of the food was just perfect. The portions were huge and the quality was spot on. It was all delicious and we were very pleased. I would say it was great value for money. The inside of the pub was large, yet very cosy feeling and the decor was both traditional, welcoming and full of character and stories. The owners are also very welcoming and have stories to tell too! I wish we had been able to stay longer, but we will definitely return for the food, drink, atmosphere and chat. What a find!!!

What a gem of a place this is. We didnt stay here but went from nearby caravan site. Atmosphere, welcome, friendliness, good food (huge portions) and good beer. What more could one ask for. Definitely recommend and hopefully we will be back soon

A lovely find in the sticks. The staff are very attentive and alternative people. We were served by a German woman who was welcoming to us all. I had an French onion soup. It was very tasty, but the only criticism is that the onions should be a little more caramelised. I had the German vegan sausage, I was warned by our server that it wasn’t the best. The sausage was very dry. Next time I’ll try the vegetable lasagna. My partner had this and it tasted amazing. The only thing we all commented on was the the portion sizes for the main meals were too big! Far too much food. Thank you!

So the owner has taken over a year (which tells you a lot in itself) to respond to my unfavorable post and abuse me in return. In particular it seems that he found it funny that he had served us with two cremated eggs. He clearly has no grasp of customer service or any desire to learn from his mistakes. However if you want to have an evening of poor service, poor quality food and to be treated in a Basil Fawlty manner by a man who clearly has his eyes on winning the Rudest Landlord in North Wales Award by all means give it a try. Original Comment We were so looking forward to our meal but it ended in great disappointment. An interminably long wait for each course. The waitress did not know the, "seasonal veg" . My wife's gammon didn't look appetising and wasn't. We sent her egg back (blackened bottom) only to be given another exactly the same. My daughter's vege option was apparently tasteless. The landlord couldn't care less. End of many happy times there. 😞

The German themed menu was a revelation! All 6 of us had starter and mains that were well presented and delicious. The food was a little slow to arrive, not surprising when you saw how much was on each plate! But worth the wait. My only criticism is the portions were so huge we couldn't manage deserts! My father in law was physically in distress with the amount of food he put away!

Family run pub. In an amazing location with vast looking views from pub garden. Plenty of parking,landlord was a very warm host. We both ordered the pork schnitzel.and weren't disappointed, fresh salad, loads of chips and lovely crispy pork in breadcrumbs, with a delicious mushroom sauce. Big portions, lovely German beer, locals were friendly. Can't recommend enough. Were hoping to move to the area so at last a decent local pub. We'll done,👍

Haha what can we say , the owner was a character , what you see is what you get , which is what we liked. Gave us a good belly laugh whilst waiting for our food 😏 , the food did take a while but it was home cooked so was happy to wait , and it was certainly worth waiting for . I hope you get to see "Brassic" it's worth a watch xx

One of the reasons we chose this place is because it had a lovely menu and was something different than all that standard boring pub grub / roast dinner that every other pub is doing! Let's just say we were not disappointed! From the minute we walked through the door we could smell a real log fire which was inviting and warm. We got a drink at the bar and was seated next to the fire. My husband and I both ordered starters and a main. The starters alone were filling! I'd suggest sharing a starter. There is no skimping on portion sizes! My husband and I each ordered a different meal so we could split with each other. We ordered the Lebekaese and Schnitzel. The Lebekaese was exactly as it should be and the Schnitzel had one of the finest breaded crumb mixture I've ever had. The meat was tenderised to perfection. I cannot fault this German meal at all! There was just so much that we could not finish! We had lovely conversations with Nick and Julia who were so friendly and welcoming! If you want a friendly, cosy, warm, inviting pub with good food this is the place to go!

Not worth the effort.... After almost bargaining to get a table at 7pm tonight (Sat) there was only 2 other ppl in the entire place when we got there & it still took nearly an hour to get our food. I give it to these guys for trying to do something different but they've got it so so wrong. The landlord is a bit abrupt & not very ppl friendly, the place looks like it hasn't had a clean in ages & the food isn't upto scratch tbh. It looks nice enough & presented fairly well if not lacking coordination. My schnitzel was battered to molecules thinness, to the point it was mostly breadcrumbs! My good lady opted for the meatloaf - I tried it and I can only describe it as disgusting and liken it to the sticks of chub dog food. This place will eventually close because it will only attract ppl mistakenly looking for traditional good pub grub never to return or the specialist few who consider they're food edible.... This was an update to a post made a couple of years ago where the food was slightly better as you can see between the two schnitzel photographs.

Proper pub this. Nice atmosphere, even though quiet when we called in last Sunday. The mark of a great pub? They have a fire going, even when there's nobody there, because they know it's a must for people dropping in to a country pub in winter. Lovely chap behind the bar, good music and dogs allowed. We'll be booking in for a Sunday roast some time soon. Excellent!

Visited Ruthin for the first time this weekend and found three pigeons inn on trip advisor - we were a large table of 13 with everyone having starters and main course. The food was amazing (best roast dinner in a long time) staff were also very friendly and accommodating. Thank you 😊

My boyfriend and I are staying nearby and this place was one of the only pubs open for dinner on a Monday. We were AMAZED at the food, it was absolutely delicious. It seems a bit to rogue, it’s very remote but the cuisine is unreal. It’s an all German menu, the Krakauer bratwurst was so, so good and the portions are very generous. I had the onion soup as a main and it was more than enough for me, it was as equally delicious. The staff are so friendly and wonderful, we had a great time there and if we are ever in this neck of the woods again will definitely visit again. The meals are incredible value for money as well. Could not recommend this place enough, it’s 10/10, an excellent place to eat and have a pint.

We went to the Three Pigeons in Ruthin today. What a lovely place! The people are so friendly & the food! What can I say?? Large portions & cooked from fresh, so good. I had the Spicy chicken skewers with salad, & homemade flat bread. My husband had the Spicy chickenbreast with risotto & mederterranian vegetables. The food is do tasty! We did have starters but not needed as main meals are more than enough. Thank you, we enjoyed.

Excellent hosts,,lovely olde pub with German menu. Food was German and very nice cooked by the owner herself from her mums receipts. Great games room with pool and darts,, ample parking and outside terrace. Something different will return

We had a wonderful dinner in this lovely location, good people who made us welcome and served up excellent food in way too large portions. Great value and something different for a change as the German menu is not common in the UK but here in Wales is perfect.

We called in on the off chance there was a table free. And they managed to get us in. The food was absolutely amazing. I had the chicken skewer and all I can say was the portion was huge. I have a good appetite but couldn't finish it. My husband had the pie and again, very good portion. Such tasty, hot home cooked food. Thank you we really enjoyed it

So lucky to have had our little flat in the Three Pigeons Inn to stay as well as use as our make up base whilst filming in Snowdonia recently. What a view to look at whilst sitting for 3 hours having hair and make up done!! Thanks Nic & Julia for your warm welcome and comfy tranquil haven

While driving north my colleague and I thought we'd figure out where to eat in Ruthin. I scrolled through the map, saying "Indian, Chinese, Pub fare" and stumbled across the Three Pigeons Inn, outside the town. Looked like a decent place. I always find that more removed places have a bit better grub. Well this menu caught my eyes with the half German food selection. That was enough. We both agreed. German food it was. It's not too far from Ruthin. It's only a couple miles down the country roads. We were greeted in the car park by a very small chef. Kinda Umpalumpa sized. Nice kid in an apron that directed us to the entrance. (Turns out he's a darts pro. Bullseye after bullseye all night.) The place was tidy and had a warm feeling. The pub section has a great collection of beer pump badges. The owner was very nice. Our food selection was the Fleischsalat, the XL Krakauer and the Jaegerschnitzel. It was amazing. Now, if you're not used to German food, it might seem a bit heavy. But, if you enjoy a big sausage with crispy chips, mustard and sauerkraut, or perhaps a breaded fried flat piece of pork, with chips, mushrooms tomatoes and some sauce, or Fleischsalat (google it, it's bloody lush), this is a great place. Toilets were tidy. Prices were right. Staff were friendly. Got there after a couple tables put in orders so it took a little while for the food, but we weren't in a rush so no bother. Totally understand, especially if this like many places is suffering staff shortages. Overall, 5 stars. If I can burn off the calories tomorrow I just might go back.

Absolutely criminal that this place wasn't more popular. Super friendly owner and staff. Portion sizes were huge. At first glance the menu doesn't look like much, but the food was great. Highly recommended this hidden out of the way gem.

Nice old pub with the possibility to sit outside with great view to the countryside. Friendly staff, always good music and really great food. The food is partially German influenced such as 'Jägerschnitzel' or 'Roulade' ! Don't miss out on tasting it !!!

A very lovely 17th century pub, never found out where the name comes from. Lots of parking, great beer and very friendly landlord.

Absolutely delightful pub and the owners desperately need more staff to open up the restaurant side of the business. Needs kitchen staff and serving on staff.Brexit has left struggling to find employees. Such a pleasure visiting there a good country style pub with open log fires and excellent cash ales and dog friendly!@

Gorgeous country pub in a fantastic location

Stopped at the three pigeons in our campervan, £10 to stay in nice car park, landlord and lordess were awesome people and the pub is so beautiful you have to see it. Lots of lovely chairs and niches to while away the hours. Very old and historical place. Delicious range of gins and whiskey. Were given a key to our own toilet and shower room on side of pub too. Sad to only stay one night. Definitely stop here again.

I've stopped here several times in the ol' big rig over the years. Great spot. Great pint. What makes me coming back though is the friendly people running it and the locals. One of which came out to me to pull me out the field when I got stuck and was very patient with me too. This is also big cat country so if you're into that kind of thing then stop the night. Don't blame me if you see two yellow piercing eyes watching you though.. Bring a tin of whiskers and you'll be alright 🙀 👀🚙🏕️

We stumbled across this pub close to my brother's new house when we chose a walk that had a pub at the end of it. It is now their new 'local' and we will be back if only for the entertainment, mind you the Sunday roast was one of the best we've had, looking forward to trying the rest of the menu. We can imagine a fun evening here with a definite need for a taxi home

We went today 16th May. I had a beef dinner and my Partner had Lamb and my little 4yr old boy had chicken and beans. All the food was amazing and the service was brilliant. Good atmosphere there and the views are stunning. Lovely area. Highly recommended.
