Owner Robert is such a kind soul and gave us endless recommendations for our time in Scotland. The sheer selection of local Whiskey and Scotch is astounding! Worth going for a pint any time you’re in Edinburgh.

We had the best time watching rugby at this little pub. Everyone was really friendly. Prices were reasonable

Went there with a couple of friends to watch Scotland v Ireland. The place wasn’t packed with a lot of locals. Service was impeccable and Innis & Gunn is my favorite Lager ❤️

The pub was located close to our holiday apartment on Thistle Steet and became a regular stop off during our stay. It's a great small pub with traditional music Tuesday to Thursday, a great selection of local beers, whiskeys, scottish gin, and other spirits. The staff are very welcoming and made you feel at home straight away. Missing the place already and looking forward to returning soon.

This is a great little pub! We walked in on a Tuesday night to hear some lovely live Celtic music. The bar staff were super friendly. They were interested in where we were from (Canada) and made us feel very welcome! The Bellfield gf beer was excellent and we subsequently visited the brewery as recommended. The staff at the brewery were also super friendly! A great experience over all.

Great wee place. Lovely friendly management. And if your a whisky fan you will not want to miss this place. And as an added bonus its not a youngsters hangout.

Spent the day in the Thistle St Bar watching the 6 Nations. Really friendly staff, who have a genuine interest in their customers. Could not recommend highly enough

Went here at about 3 o'clock on a Saturday. Of all the things we did in Edinburgh, coming here was one of the highlights! We asked for whiskey recommendations, and Robert sat down with us to recommend different bottles and gave us a lovely lesson on origins and the production process. Highly recommend coming here over any "whiskey experience" during a nice slow hour!

Typical Scottish Pub, whiskey and beer whatever you wanted and beautiful antique decoration. Even though we didn't know how to speak English, they treated us very kindly, which is very appreciated.

Popped in for a drink and loved the nice friendly vibe from the bar staff. To top it all there was live music which was fab. Highly recommend the Thistle Street Bar..10 /10

Would not normally share a review like this but felt the need to do so. Yesterday had arranged to meet here for a couple of drinks with an acquaintance, I had arrived early so entered the premises with the intention of using the toilet prior to ordering drinks and choosing a seat to wait. No sooner had I went to enter the pub was I verbally addressed by a man sitting at a table (who evidently worked there but this was not obvious to me at the time as he was sat at a bar table so easily could have been a customer). He spoke so rudely to me in a tone and said “when you enter a pub it’s polite to ask to use the toilet”. He clearly thought I was going to use it then leave again. I explained I had plans to drink here I simply wanted to use the toilet before ordering. Instead of getting a deserved apology I was addressed rudely ONCE again and told I should have said that? Why would I approach a random man sat at a table in a bar to ask to use the toilet lol. In my 28 years of life I have never been made to feel so small when I was about to use the services of a bar for the first time. Simply not how you should treat customers using your establishment and I was never once given an apology. I left and rearranged to meet somewhere else due to this treatment. I will never ever be back and I will make sure to let anyone I know not to ever consider going here for a drink unless they want to be made to feel small and spoken to in the rudest of manners. Would rate 0 stars if I could.

Lovely venue with friendly couple behind the bar, only small so can get close but we had three rounds on the start of our last evening in Edinburgh. Good range and most of the beers appear to be Scottish which is a nice touch. They have a lot of live music; I can imagine those events are very cosy. Malt of the month seems like good value too.

Excellent visit to the Thistle Street Bar! The fiddle and guitar Scottish music drew us in. Nice atmosphere, great drinks and staff. A nice variety of beer on tap.

Warm and friendly pub that makes you feel right at ease as soon as you walk in the door. Chatting with Robert he found out we were on holiday and immediately helped in looking up and giving us multiple options for places to go that we were looking to explore. We also ended up taking a tour through them that was hands down the best we've been on. Must visit when you are in Edinburgh!

Super nice setting, and good atmosphere in the bar. On the other hand, the bartenders were not necessarily very friendly.

Nice wee boozer. Small in size, huge in character. I never knew the bar existed. A good selection of beers and a lot of whisky for a small place. I'd definitely be back, the next time I'm in Edinburgh. I might make it my regular pub when in town.

I went in for a drink on my last night in Edinburgh, and the two bar tenders were both very friendly and knowledgeable, and helped me try three new whiskies that I enjoyed. The atmosphere was wonderful, enhanced by a duo was playing acoustic music. Highly recommended!

Stunning little pub ticked away down a quiet street. Bar staff were amazingly friendly and knowledgeable and actually converted my fiance into a whisky lover! Really appreciated the live music too and will definitely be back

The best small pub and family atmosphere. The owners are not only awesome at what they do at Thistle Street Bar but are experts in their history and tour guide services. Will always and only go back to them. They are definitely a part of our family now.

We LOVE thistle bar! This is our first time in Scotland and Thistle bar came highly recommended by a friend. We are SO happy we went- the owners, Robert & Dorothy are simply amazing and so incredibly welcoming. Robert also took us on a tour around Edinburgh and that was easily one of the best tours I’ve experienced. He was not only super knowledgeable, it’s clear he was interested in the history. Do yourself a favor and check out this bar as well as their tours!

Always visit while in Edinburgh, it’s a hidden gem, outstanding staff that give you such a warm welcome! Very close to everything. See you again soon!

Cracking little pub highly recommend it, the service was spot on welcoming, friendly with a good selection of beers and of course whisky. Only popped in for a few pints so can't comment on the food but the pub and the beer were terrific

Love this place! Robert, Dorothy, Michael, and another Michael (and apologies, I forgot the young lady's name) were all amazing people! Knowledge about their products, and Robert is a wealth of historical knowledge. Great music too! Went it while a fiddler and guitarist were going to town on some fantastic tunes. Really a lovely experience!

No food, just crisps. Locals bar. The husband and wife owners are really nice and very knowledgeable about their gin and whisky. I purchased one of their branded tasting glasses to remember the interesting recommendations he made.

Friendly staff, great, informed service. Great nook areas to sit and solo visitor felt very comfortable and at home. Good to see that musicians play there some evenings 👌 👍🎶

The perfect pub to try out whiskey for the first time, or to try new whiskeys you'd never heard of. My wife asked for a gentle whiskey as she is not a whiskey drinker and was given the perfect choice, together with water to be added to taste. Not too busy. No food. Superb place.

Small pub set approx 5mins from Princes Street. Great realistic prices. Gin/tonic & Lager £11, compared to main tourist area of 15-17. Well recommended. Unfortunately they don't sell food

Spent a couple of hours in this lovely pub. The drinks were good, good choices and a friendly atmosphere with attentive staff. Will definitely return on my next visit to Edinburgh.

Cosy pub, just out of the way. Well looked after pints and friendly locals. If you're lucky, you might even get a dog to pet.

Quaint cozy. The closest place we got to visit while in town. It is small, maybe 10 little tables and the bar. Great whiskey selection, local beer by the pull, and many beers on tap. We will be back to check out the live music and whatnot.

My favourite bar in the city centre, great music, good mix of people, drinks are reasonably priced, atmosphere is great and the staff are friendly. Recommend you include it on your itinerary for any Edinburgh night out.

This page what can I say? It’s amazing what a pub. This is the pinnacle of what a drinker should be. Starting with the staff, quality of top shelf drinks. Then there’s the atmosphere l. This should be your first stop in Edinburgh! One of my favorite experiences while visiting! At this bar, you’ll find the friendliest staff who know locals by name. They’re so kind. Having lived in Edinburgh all their lives, the owners provide great recommendations on things to do in the city. The vibe of the bar is perfect, it feels like an authentic pub experience.

Robert and Dorothy are great publicans and an asset to the Belhaven Brewery. You should hang out at their bar and ask for their advice on food, drink and bon amie!

My favourite bar in town and first time back since covid. It's just a great space and while many still call it Marrs bar it is the TSB for me. I reckon I spent about £40,000 ok, maybe £100,000, here during a 12 year spree from the 90's until 2009. The £10,000 years towards the end were when the price of wine went up. It's amazing how easy it was to spend £300 some weeks with some of my old colleagues, no names! On the plus side my liver made it to the other side. Great bar, great memories and superb golfing society.

Dieser Pub ist ein echtes Herzstück. Er ist relativ klein, jedoch super gemütlich. Die Inhaber sind sehr sympathisch und mit Herzblut dabei. Auf Nachfrage gibt es allerhand Empfehlungen, egal ob zu lokalem Bier, Gin oder Whisky. An festen Tagen in der Woche gibt es regelmäßig Live-Musik, welche sehr charmant und dezent ist (wir sind dienstags hier gewesen).

In for a quick drink and it's a great pub just of the beaten track so relatively quiet. Good choice of beers.

Lovely space -- exactly as advertised and exactly what we were looking for. Wide selection of whisky and gin. Very much enjoyed the music alongside our drinks.

Very nice atmosphere during the fringe. They had bean bags to sit in, and loads of space. It didn’t feel crowded and it was very relaxing.

First time visit, very compact and am sure nice & cosy in the winter. We'll be back soon for some rum & blues.

It's the place you hope to find when visiting Edinburgh. It's got the years, and everything that entails. It takes years to add the layers of depth this place poses. Owner operated by Robert and Dorothy, and operated exceptionally. They are a wealth of knowledge about the spirits they serve, as well as Edinburgh. Stop by for a pint and swig of whisky. It's a must.

A great, busy, with friendly staff, side street bar in Edinburgh, intimate with a small back entrance seating area for the better weather. Perfect for a drink off the usual beaten tourist path.
