I decided to try This & That after watching 'Gary Eats' youtube review. And I have to say off the top he was on the money with this place when he gave it a 5 star rating. Its an uncomplicated affair, you have a plate of rice and you then choose any combination of up to 3 curries added to your plate. There is a good variation, meat (lamb or chicken) and vegetarian. I chose chicken saag, daal and chickpeas and chicken. I also ordered a garlic naan, and the whole order came to ~£9. My partner chose daal, chickpea and chicken and chicken tikka masala. The rice and curries were excellent, just the right amount of spices and seasoning making them an appetising pairing with the plain rice - saag chicken and daal were particularly good. The garlic naan was a bit meh, preheated with a dollop of garlic butter, but I wasn't there for the bread, and I suppose this is done for the sake of speed, my naan appeared after a minute from me giving the order. I would definitely go again, the owners and workers are incredibly friendly, inquisitive and this is another reason for going back. As a comparison I went to a couple of restaurants on Wilmslow Road (Curry Mile) which were in the top 10 on tripadvisor for the area and neither was as well cooked as the ones I eat in This & That - they cost a heck of a lot more though.

Food is much better than this place. For 2 meals, 1 bottled water and 1 naan bread i paid £17. Good value for money.

Food never showed up even though I ordered it with plenty of time left before closing and wouldn’t answer the phone when ringing before closing 1/5 stars for these lot

Quite literally one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. The food was delicious and the price was surprisingly cheap for what you would expect of quality Indian food. The customer service was fantastic as well as the staff are very welcoming and friendly. I was going to just order chicken tikka masala but the staff recommended I order the 3 meat for roughly the same price and I’m so glad I did because the mix of favors on the plate were incredible. Be sure to order the Lamb Mince Keema while you’re at it because I would’ve made the mistake of not getting it due to ignorance and it was great. Do yourself a favor and stop by This & That. You won’t regret it.

Best food and service i got in Manchester , it’s really a hidden gem

Tucked away in the northern quarter on soap Street this is a Mancunian institution we have been using for decades . While Manchester city centre has changed dramatically this place has not and is still serving excellent dishes at reasonable prices and with a great variety. Doing away with the jugs of water Isn't great but other than that it is consistently serving high-quality Currys at reasonable prices. These change from day today and you get three different ones with rice for about £8 I think. It is a rough and ready place with shared tables and benches which adds to the atmosphere.

Almost 2 hours since ordering u til it arrived. At the time of ordering it said 40mins.

We came here on recommendation of a relative. The idea is that you choose from the menu - either full portion of 1 curry, or a "mix&match" of 3 curries; what they're serving is different but set for each day Mon-Sun. The plate of food you get doesn't look like very much and certaily isn't perfectly presented, but tastes amazing and is increadibly filling!

Brilliant experience hidden gem. Food was amazing and tasty and some of the best Indian I have had. Even better than a few expensive Indian resturants I have visited too. Great for the price. Set expectations if you visit. It is like visiting your grandparents and having dinner and sitting down amongst family. Very welcoming quick to help. Will be going again.

Greasy Spoon cafe for curry. Whats not to love

Amazing meal....rice with chicken tikka and paratha with lamb korma The korma was perfectly spiced and the lamb was tender. The chicken was tender and juicy with a delicious gravy. Perfect weekday lunch treat

If you want a fast curry for £8 without any frills, this is the biz. You get a plate of rice then choose 3 currys from an array of loveliness. I usually get the chicken tikka, lamb spinach and one other random spoon full (it was Lamb and Carrots this time, hahaha mental). But yes if you are short for time, you can be in and out in 10 minutes. I love it.

A true authentic hidden gem. If you're looking for a dead posh restaurant this isn't the place for you. If you want honest food served with a smile however, this hidden gem does not disappoint.

First time here after an afternoon drinking in Manchesters Northern quarter. Rustic cafe feel. A choice of about 7 curries. You get to choose 3 , i had lamb and spinach, lamb and carrot and chicken tikka massala. Served with rice and a chapati. It was delicious and great value at a tenner a head. Will return soon .

Absolutely amazing experience. This place is a little hidden gem. It’s basic in decor but the food is to die for. Great prices to that beat anywhere I’ve been. Indian street food at its best. Highly recommended we’ll definitely be going there again. Loved it

Been coming here regularly since 1984 when it first opened. Albeit. Rice n 3 was £1.50 then and a kebab sandwich was 80p. Always been excellent food, excellent value, great staff. Wouldnt of been comng here 40 years if it wasnt. Best value about. Meal,drink n chapati for a 10er in the city centre

Hidden in an alley, you don't expect to be so well received. The server is very friendly and easy to talk to. The dishes are good, not as well presented as in a "classic" restaurant, let's say it's Indian fast food. Perfect when you have little time and don't need the restaurant atmosphere.

Hidden gem of Manchester. Variety of dishes for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The food served is fresh and hygienic. The atmosphere of the place is very good and the staff is very polite and friendly. The place is usually busy during lunch and dinner times, if you are looking for cheap and wholesome food options just go for it. Although the vegetarian curry mostly includes potatoes so check the menu for the day first to avoid disappointments.

Warm, family atmosphere. Funny and friendly seller. I recommend you go there and settle in while ordering the daily specials which are delicious. A guaranteed treat!

Best place in Town (Manchester City Centre ) for rice and three (3 currys) lots to choose from and it still feels like it did bck in the day

Stumbled upon this place one night when I was craving for Indian food, when I turned the corner I was a bit shocked that the shop is hidden in a narrow dark side alley. Peeping in thru the window and found that it was almost full so I decided to give it a try. Took a few moment to understand the menu on the wall, the food they offered is fixed for the day and changes daily, you just pick 2-3 dish to go with rice or naan. They certainly don't market it as a "decent" restaurant, the food is of good value though.

Came up from Brentford for the football and after reading reviews I wanted to visit this restaurant. Excellent authentic food. Chicken with saag and cauliflower absolutely delicious and such good value. The guy serving was very welcoming and helpful (I believe it was Mohammed). About 15 minute walk from Piccadilly. Will definitely be back.

So glad that we did try this hidden gem. So much different to the taste of Indian food in NL (where we come from). So cheap. Good portion. Quick. I can eat there every day I guess. You can choose meals of choice (rice with one meat and two vegetables or rice with 3 meats dishes, etc). The place is small, but we didn't face problems eating lunch there with 7 of us. The meals are at least medium spicy. So not suitable for young children. Recommended!

I Love this place ! It is Indeed a true hidden Gem in Manchester ! £8 pound for rice and 3 meat currys, they have a great selection everyday there are many vegetarian options too. Very authentic and exceedingly tasty ! You can also pick up freshly made sundries and Onion bhajis for cheap. You have to give this Gem a try !

Got three curries and rice for £8. Only problem is they were all bland and all tasted the same

I really like the informal setting, sit yourself anywhere after being served. Fast service, extras like naan , chapatis take no time at all. These are all 3 stars, the food however is predictable and really bland. Yes, it has a kick but I'm guessing it's been quickly put together and not well spiced or seasoned.

Didn't enjoy the food at all, onion rings were soggy and didn't taste very nice, while the pizza was extremely thin and barely any pepperoni on it. Delivery man was very pleasant, but overall a really disappointing experience, won't be ordering again.

Absolutely mint. Loads to choose from, big portions and help yourself to coriander, sauce and fresh chillies. Looks like a bit of a dive but flavours are banging.

I came here today with my partner after he insisted I would love it...he was right! If you are after an authentic Indian canteen style meal then this is your place! I worked for a month in a hospital in India and the restaurant was very similar, however the curries here are much tastier! Food was obtained very quickly by queuing to select your curry. The prices are excellent (£6-7 for 3x curries and rice) and i left feeling very full as the portion size was generous! The people serving were very friendly and it's clear they want to make your experience enjoyable! Will definitely be back!

This is great. Its simply rustic you queue up in a line and pick any 3 curries on a bed of rice for under £10. They have a different set of curries each day loads of local office workers go. You might be sharing a table bench with other people and when you approach from outside it look well shady but it great

This is what a curry house should be, no nonsense good honest food. Absolute gem tucked away off the beaten track, decent veggy options and a glass of mango lassi to die for, all for about 8 quid. I took a friend of mine there who writes for lonely planet and he was blown away by its value for money.

Always first class pizza, amazing

Food was not that great. Dough balls were undercooked on the inside but charred on the outside. Note to the restaurant, if you don't want to deliver slightly outside of 5mile radius, don't advertise yourself as available for delivery. The "I don't know how you managed to order from us" comment was uncalled for. Will not be ordering again, will not be recommending either.

Very popular place, their classic 3 curries on rice is some of the best Indian in town, while being inexpensive. It's also very fast to serve, given the simple concept. Hard to choose a favourite among the options. Be aware that there are no mild curries, they all have some kick, but they do start from reasonable levels of spiciness. You can take our or sit in one of the long communal tables.

Absolutely love the nihari , meat and creamy the way I like it and not to fatty as the option is given to put oily bone marrow on top or not, I recommend with roti , also the lamb spinach is really nice as well , been twice now in the last two weeks and really enjoyed the food and experience.

Best hidden gem/ hole in the wall in the UK. Phenomenal Indian food, friendly and warm service, and even open on Christmas Eve! Truly had to beat. We got 6 curries, garlic naan, chapati, onion bajhi, and samosa! Hard to beat- and only for £25!

Back street basic curry cafe. Absolutely beautiful food, Cheap prices do not do the tastes and quality justice. Everyone should go there once in their lifetime, but I advise every week.

Visited this place 15 years ago on a visit to Manchester, pleased to return and report that it was just as good as I remembered. Lots of choice, lots of flavours, great value and highly recommended.

Genuinely amazing place. A little gem. Proper solid food and a great atmosphere. Just get stuck in. A seriously solid place.

I generally prefer thicker Pizza than such, it's fine that is wasn't and it was thin, although I do believe that was the most paper thin Pizza I've ever seen - It's how some people enjoy it, just not me. However I must say, the garlic bread, was cold, not mildly warm, fully cold, and as a result it was very unpleasant to eat, and due to it being thin just like the pizza, it was practically inedible - wait time was 1hr 20 which is on the long side, but it's fine, busy nights happen. Chicken was very nice, warm and juicy.

Can't be beaten for really good, value curry. I had rice with chicken tikka masala, lamb, spinach, a bhaji and a drink for tenner.

The best restaurant on the planet.

Knew this place from when I was at university years ago. Went back with a friend (regular customer). Though the place had changed visually the essence hadn't. If you want really good Pakistani food that won't cost an arm and a leg, this is the place. No frills, the food is the focus here. Staff pleasant and respectful. Highly recommend.
