British Raj Tandoori in Manchester

Had a chicken kebab the meat was dry wouldn’t come back also food did not have any taste to it!!! It was like eating robber

I’m so disappointed have been going here around 20 years. Tonight my curry tasted completely different no flavour at all. There was a sweetness/synthetic taste to it and wasn’t the usual standard. My husband got his usual Chittagong and that wasn’t even the same colour as previous and no spice. Very very disappointed :(

Ordered takeaway and was not disappointed! Lamb was tender and curries delicious. I couldn't believe how quick the piping hot food arrived as well, will definitely be ordering from here again.

Food was extreamly late and Stone cold when it arrived. Chicken was already hard so when re heated wasn't very nice. I never leave a bad review and maybe this was a one off but I wouldn't order again.

Placed an order for delivery, ordered over £40 worth of food for 4 of us and a toddler. We didn’t order rice as the offer states orders over £25 get free rice. Open the food dishing it out to everyone to find there’s no rice, call the driver he says he will ask his boss and call back, well it’s an hour later and no call no rice and the food was sub par at best, how this has 4.5 stars is beyond me.

The food from this place is absoutely disgusting never tried anything like that in a long time. Please Save your money an avoid at all costs. My food has all been chucked in the bin.

Received a just eat notification to say our food had arrived at 19.25 when we hadn't received it, called the takeaway only to be told they hadn't even started our order yet - I ordered at 6.05 pm! Received our food at 8.00pm. I've been ordering from this takeaway for over 20 years the food is always delicious, however I have started to notice lateness of delivery times and some items of food can be quite inconsistent.

I don't like writing this review as I've had food from the British Raj since the late 1990s but last night's order was very disappointing. Admittedly, we did order it late, but none of the food tasted fresh and was luke warm when it arrived. We spent nearly £40 only to find the rice dry and tasteless, the chicken in the curry was very tough and tasted old, both breads were a bit tough and tasteless. It was obvious that this hadn't been made fresh. We couldn't eat it. Very disappointing.

The food for the most part was great, fresh and hot when it arrived. Unfortunately the chicken tika dupiaza was pretty bland today and not as nice as previous orders.

the food was great apart from the sag aloo. the potatoes were dry. We had a time of an eta but that was later put back but it came much later. We did call the restaurant and said it would be another 10 mins but again was later. so in. total from ordering to receiving food over 2 hours

Missing some onion chutneys that were ordered so I had to collect them. Not a major issue and I should have checked the order before accepting but the food is always tasty

I reckon the best around burnarge. The British Raj has been there the longest by far 25/ 30 years maybe bit more, very nice food and definitely RECOMMENDED.

Food arrived earlier than expected which was great as we wanted it ASAP. All the food was delicious, especially the pasanda and dupiaza. The garlic naan was very garlicky which we loved, and the free bombay potatoes were amazing. We will definitely be ordering from here again.

worst lamb korma ever..since when korma has become sweet and taste like Thai curry??? Aloo chaat was also not good. Infact it wasn't even a chaat it was just potato curry with fried bread.

very poor quality chicken quite hard to chew , bland sauce . chapati like rubber, lamb chops were good though and the mixed kebab starter was ok . long delivery time .

the best food we have had for years , the chicken was so tasty and cooked perfectly. we had the best lamb chops ever ! even the basic Veg curry was really nice loads of veg in it and a tasty sauce. first time we have ordered from here it won't be the last . 10/10

Garlic potatoes have a taste like deep fried potatoes diced,no garlic flavour nor any garlic in a garlic potato! good size chapati but very thick not cooked properly ,tarka Dal is good with no flavour, not enough Sault !!

Best takeaway curry I’ve had in Manchester, have had about 4 curry dishes from here and each time has been excellent. A lot of places you find can be slightly oily or bland but this has been spot on every time, would highly recommend - I now go nowhere else for a curry

Probley the best curry takeaway in Manchester!! Absolutely delicious curry’s, hot and fresh. Chips are crispy and hot, and the poppadoms and so nice! The mango chutney is so nice too! Literally everything we have ordered so far has been absolutely delicious thank you British raj!

BANG ON! Ordered via JustEat. One of the best Indian restaurant I have tried in my life. The food was so so tasty! I had to call the restaurant to enquire about something and they have been really helpful too. 100% recommended. I had Onion Bhaji, king prawns korma, keema bhuna and naan (one garlic). Food arrived on time and piping hot.

Brilliant Indian. The curries are really tasty, particularly like the Rojan Josh. They also do a lovely fresh peshwari naan which a lot get wrong. I don’t think that many people are aware of this place as it is tucked away a bit out of the main Withington/Didsbury drags but it is easily as good as any of their curry houses and I’d say better in terms of taste, value, portion size and the punctuality of getting the order quickly. Thank you very much British Raj for your excellence.

Great food good price defo a thumbs up from me

First time ordering from here and found it to be very good food. Samosas just the right amount of spice. Lamb tikka rogan josh was brill and my partner had veggie balti and loved it. Very reasonably priced and great value. My only criticism is the curries were a little oily, but still tasted great. Will definitley go again.

Worcester sauce was all I could taste in my Lamb balti Masala. Couldn't eat it the taste was so overpowering.

A friend recommended British Raj months ago, so i finally rang an order through, and was pleasantly suprised, i ordered beef vindaloo with pilau rice , the sauce had a nice heat to it and was tasty like an old school curry,not just full of hot chilli powder, and there was plenty of it,the beef was tender and fell apart loved it, rice and nan were ok too, my son had chicken tikka Rogan josh and rice, which he liked but said it could have done with less onions,he also ordered tandoori lamb chops ,so over all it was good, I'd certainly use it again and for the price of £19-20 its good value for the money

Ordered a take away on a quiet weekday night. My delivery was advertised to arrive in 45 minutes at the very latest. It arrives 1 hour 45 minutes later?!??... I politely questioned the delivery guy as to why he was so late in delivering our food, when it clearly stated on their email that it would be there well before the time it eventually arrived. Don't get me wrong, I'm fully aware that it's not entirely down to the delivery guy, as he's not the one preparing our order etc, but still, he could have at least rang his boss to maybe suggest giving us a discount, with it arriving so late etc. But nothing, not even an apology, absolutely nothing! And then, to add insult to injury he then short changed us, before darting off quicker than Usain Bolt! The food was lukewarm and had to be heated up in a pan! I called the restaurant to complain, and the guy on the other end of the phone was nasty, extremely rude, and abusive! It's the worst service I've ever experienced from a food takeaway/restaurant etc! One to avoid!

We live locally and have tried lots of the Indian takeaways but British Raj is by far the best. The food is so delicious, without the oily pools you get in some places. I particularly recommend the Lamb Passanda. If you like things without any spicey heat, the Kashmir dishes are delicious. The sag aloo is fantastic. The staff are very polite over the phone and friendly when you arrive.

Ordered by phone, said 45 - 50 mins waited over 2 hours for our food. We phoned up after 1 hour and 30 mins said they were on there way and had a free something in there. Food still took over 30 mins after that. When we finally got the food we had no mango chutney which we ordered and payed for. We should have received something free with one of our meals which we didn't get. And we also didn't get the free something which they said we would get on the phone. We are regular customers here and we have waited over 1 hour for our food before but never this long. Food was alright in the end!

I ordered food here over the phone by mistake as there is a similar name nearby regularly use. On picking up my order I realised this but continued and bought my takeaway. ..The place looks scruffy and the nan bread was hard stale by the time I got home as this I what happens to old dough. ..The curry was very average and the onions slimey consistent with an old Base from early in the week. Best food by far onion barges quality, food spicy but with but with out being over powing with heat, 5 stars kori best ever .

Its a takeaway that is on first appearance quite basic - But the dishes they serve are really great - I had heard good reviews by word of mouth but this is my first time at the take away - Not at all showy but my the do cook great grub - Good value £13.20 for a meal that served 3 - Will for sure be back.

Im often disappointed with Indian takeaways that are chunks of overcooked meat in a radioactive looking sauce. Finally found a takeaway that doesnt do that but makes tasty curries with fresh ingredients and some interesting specials to try. I had the chicken chittagong which was very tasty and a bit fiery how I like it. Was a bit disappointed with the barbecued prawns and mushroom puri (greasy) but every other dish has been delicious

Best Indian takeaway in the area. Great value for money. Simple, fresh ingredients and not at all greasy. The chef's specials menu features some delicious dishes that you can't get anywhere else. We always choose British Raj for our takeaway needs!
