The Woodside, Doune - Pub & Restaurant in Stirling

Such a shame. Is there anywhere else in Scotland where a stylish Al fresco area is surrounded on two sides by 3-4 foot jungle of weeds. Or where you can hardly see the road signs for similar? It must be the. It must be the responsibility of the same person in management who thinks that white lettering on pale grey is just the combination of colours to grab the passing visitor off the road. I live locally and would love the Woodside to succeed, but someone has a mentlal block, and fails to realise how important the initial visual impression is to the passing motorist. "If they can't keep the garden tidy, what about the food, and the toilets?" It has gone on like this for many months, and includes every detail of their outside plant decor. The half dead conifer on the left side of the entrance has been half dead for months. It would not take much to do a tidy-up. But the empty car park at coffee time during the tourist season must largely be a reflection of the first impressions travellers get as they approach the place. Come on Woodside. We want you to succeed. Apply the same standards to the outside as you do to the inside.

This spot is a fantastic spot for food or drink, the chefs cooking is magnificent and for the quality of food the prices are really good. Worth a visit if in the area. We had the chefs special and it was delicious and so memorable, I can’t stress enough how wonderful the food is and I would highly recommend trying the chefs special! Richard the server went above and beyond in his customer service and took good care of us. Wonderful place for a date or family meal and even provides option to have a more formal dinner or a relaxed dinner due to the two seating areas. We will definitely be returning.

What a fantastic meal out we had! We pre-booked mains as we had a party of 10 eating plus a wheelchair to be accommodated. The table was all ready for us when we arrived and our drinks order was taken promptly. The food came out for everyone together and was excellent. Macaroni cheese was rich and creamy, lamb was beautifully served, steak burger was great and our one dairy-free member was pleased with her cauliflower goujons. The mains weren't over-facing so we nearly all ordered dessert. There was a good selection and a great vegan option too. All came promptly accompanied by the coffees we ordered. The staff were attentive and checked on us several times. The bill came really promptly when requested and we felt the staff deserved a good tip. A really pleasant meal out with the family. Highly recommended.

Beautiful place, but had to wait an hour after ordering food . When I checked with one of the staff I was told there were other guest waiting.No apology. I had Fish and chips , which cost almost £18.00. Both the Fish and the Chips were on the greasy side. Small fish compared to what I usually have. As I said lovely place but food mediocre,service poor.

I will start off by saying that this place is beautiful and the staff are excellent. However, £4.75 for TWO onion rings is just taking the mickey. The burger meat was ok - nothing to write home about. The pretzel buns were so dense my husband could hardly eat it. Sticky toffee puddings were dry, and ice cream almost completely melted before they arrived on the table. Four diners, a few drinks (nothing overboard, 3 starters, three mains, dessert and coffee...£202. TWO HUNDRED AND TWO POUNDS. WITHOUT A TIP. I rarely write reviews unless I have something good to share or the opposite. This sadly was the opposite. We won't be back.

This is our second visit here and we are regulars at the Allan Park which is also part of the group. Today's visit was very disappointing, I ordered my usual the pate starter and am unsure of the name or indeed quality of the toasted bread but it was literally rock hard ,and could not be broken or eaten , I asked the server for another option she apologised and suggested a bloomer type bread I said that was fine. My partner, he had the haddock, not our usual size of fish and chips were overcooked hard and looked like they were the dregs of the pan, the server didn't come back to see if everything was OK and we couldn't decide whether to say anything, anyway we didn't, another factor was the girl who brought the fish out was oblivious to the fact he had no cutlery and did not ask and just left so we had to ask for that. I was actually planning on having a desert but knowing the meal had been far from satisfactory dampened the whole experience.

We’ve just had an excellent breakfast in a lovely atmosphere. My main comment is however that the very pleasant young man who served us was absolutely rushed off his feet. The room was very busy and he was actually jogging around at times. The owner need to think about getting more staff in as there is a danger that some diners may be less forgiving than us about the inevitability slow service. He remained uncomplaining and pleasant throughout, by the way. The issues were obvious though.

This place was highly recommended by the people working at Doune Castle. When you walk in, it feels bright, airy, and spacious. The staff is super friendly. Our server was fabulous. We showed up 30 minutes before lunch would be served and decided to go ahead and have breakfast instead of waiting. We were sat next to the window with excellent light and a view of the drizzly weather. I ordered an Irish coffee that was made with whisky from a local distillery and the bacon, avocado, and egg on toast. My husband had a soft drink and the Scottish breakfast. Everything came out quickly and was both beautiful and delicious. Highly recommend this place for a quick and cozy meal.

Our visit here was exceptional from start to finish. Luke gave a warm welcome, our room was wonderful, nicely decorated, inviting and had everything a visitor could need! Coming down to the bar we were met with a good range of beers, wines and cocktails. We settled in a cosy nook by the fire and relaxed before dinner where we met Vicky, the manageress who was most accommodating, and with her team looked after us and the other guests with great professionalism and friendliness. We selected our meal from a menu which was varied and would suit any taste including gluten free and vegan. After a gorgeous dinner and a nightcap we retired to a lovely comfortable bed. Breakfast was perfect, again selected from a balanced menu to suit anyone. Thank you guys for a wonderful stay, we will be back!

Recently stayed here for husbands birthday, ideally located next to Deanston distillery. The staff were lovely, food was great as was our room. We spent some time in the bar relaxing, taking in the atmosphere. My husband received a birthday drink on the house and our room was upgraded (thank you Vicky). Best overnight we've had in ages, we will definitely be back.

Been a couple of times but this was a bit disappointing. This was my birthday treat. I had the braised beef cheek which was £21 and arrived on quite a small plate and was luke warm at best. Mine was finished long before hubbys fish and chips. Also, I had a G&T. The gin was £6.25 and the tonic was £3 which was a bit steep. We had 2 courses and were in and out in less than an hour. Overall, the place had a lovely atmosphere but did play 'bat out of hell' at one point for background music.

Third time we had dinner at Woodside. Our first time was with a two night stay. The food was excellent on all three occasions. The staf was really friendly and we didn’t have to wait for our food very long. The only negative is the noise, but … well… it’s Christmas time.

Our booking was for 1pm. We had a nice position at a round table by a window. The service was great as were the staff. Two of us wanted to finish with the cheesecake but there was only one left so I said to the waiter that I'd share it with my friend but "could we have ruler" so I could be sure of getting my share ! To our surprise and delight he came back with a measuring tape ! this was great fun and pictures were taken. That fun touch added to what already was a great experience. Thank You !

My partner and I popped in for some lunch after someone in our family had recommended the place to us. The Woodside definitely did not disappoint. The food was incredible, everything was freshly made and their truffle mayo is hands down the best we’ve ever had. The staff were even better. Richard was so lovely and couldn’t be more helpful. The Restaurant is also dog friendly which is a huge bonus. We will absolutely be recommending to friends and we will definitely be back!

We took the whole hotel to accommodate Wedding guests from abroad for two nights . October 6/7 EVERYTHING was fantastic !! Everyone said how welcome they were made to feel and nothing was too much trouble . The staff were amazing ,luxurious rooms , cleanliness , food , attention to detail , would highly recommend. Stayed in an Airbnb in nearby Deanston which was a 20 minute walk away. Menu, food and service was all excellent. Decided to go back for a late lunch the next day too. Was dog friendly and had a good range of drinks/wine. Will visit again next time we’re here!

Fantastic night out with our family. We were finding it difficult to book a table at a nice restaurant for 6 people and our dog within travelling distance of where we was staying near Gleneagles. Then we met Richard. What a wonderful person first moving things to accommodate us and then when we arrived taking care of us and ensuring we had a fantastic experience with great food recommendations. A credit to your business and as always living proof that it’s the small things that make the biggest difference.

This was a superb find, so pleased we stayed at the Woodside. Initially choose this hotel as loved that it was small, beautifully designed, family owned and had parking onsite. Despite our flight being delayed, arriving a lot later than planned, the staff were fabulous and ensured we had a smooth arrival. On arrival, it instantly had the wow factor and that feeling of luxury, well thought out decor, giving modern traditional feel with character, gorgeous room and excellent ensuite facilties. The breakfast choice and quality was fantastic and offered a superb vegetarian breakfast as well. The team went above and beyond throughout our entire stay, providing iron facilities in our room and even running my partner into town last minute, after a drama of bringing the wrong wedding shirt! 'Andrew' literally saved the day, we even made the wedding just in time. We cant thank this hotel enough for a truly enjoyable stay. Thank you. X

Stayed at the Woodside for one night with my partner. The hotel is well presented, clean and nicely styled. The room was spotlessly clean, super comfy beds, excellent bathroom and shower and a few nice little touches in room such as the snacks etc. The evening meal and breakfast the next day were fantastic. The staff were also fantastic, they were welcoming, friendly and helpful .. Will definately be back .. this is now our favourite hotel in the Stirling area. Very highly recommended.
