Deanston Distillery - Coffee Bothy in Stirling

Deanston was a gem of a distillery and the whisky was wonderful. Aiste was our guide and she was generous with her knowledge and time! They also customized the experience for my husband's birthday, which was extra special. Thank you, Deanston Distillery!

The tour was very economical when it came to price and value. It is a nice place to visit if you are nearby, but maybe not if you need to travel.

Fantastic distillery and tour. George made the weekend trip - brilliant knowledge, genuine passion and infectious enthusiasm for the excellent whisky Deanston produce.

Smooth Located just 10-15 minutes from Stirling Castle, Deanston Distillery is a great stop when visiting the area. The staff were incredibly accommodating, adjusting our booking so we could join an earlier tour. We opted for the 45-minute distillery tour, which included a choice of 2 or 3 drams of whisky, with “driver’s drams” available for designated drivers. Advance reservations are recommended, free parking on-site. A fantastic experience for whisky lovers and a must-visit in Stirling!

Wonderful afternoon tea. Huge portion and boxes to take leftovers home. Fantastic tour for my Father in Laws birthday. He thoroughly enjoyed it. George was fantastic. Now to enjoy the purchase from the store! Highly recommended warehouse experience.

Went on 25th February 2025 and was the only person booked in with Thomas at 10:30. Being the only one it was a very in-depth tour, very interesting and very informative. Thomas is great at the job and made it a great visit for me. Came home with two bottles of Whisky that I sampled on the day and will buy more online when these are gone. Well done Thomas.

Staying at Forest Holidays Strathyre and decided to book a tour of Deanston Distillery, it did not disappoint! Really interesting to see the process from start to finish, our tour guide Thomas was extremely knowledgeable and kept his cool & kept us engaged even when there was a total power outage due to a thunderstorm 😂 would recommend to anyone who’s in the area, even if you don’t consider yourself a whisky drinker!

We went to visit this distillery in February with family. Our guide Thomas was very responsive and understanding regarding a service error that I had made when booking online. The visit went very well and Thomas allowed us to understand the entire visit in very articulate and calm English. We thank him very much!

What a wonderful experience we had on Valentines Day with the lovely Tom. I booked the tasting for my partner as he is a whisky drinker and I was not overly excited about it as I have never liked the taste. However, Tom made it his personal mission to find a whisky that I enjoyed. He was incredibly informative and taught us about the history and how to taste using smell. We had a nosey around the distillery too. I now feel like a barrel expert and even chose a Deanstone from the bar that same evening. We highly recommend this experience- you won’t be disappointed. Ask for Tom- he’s fabulous!

Had a fantastic experience at Deanston Distillery! The tour was thorough and professionally conducted, offering great insight into the whisky making process. Our guide Brian was excellent; knowledgeable, engaging, and had a great sense of humor, making the experience both informative and enjoyable. The whisky tasting was an added plus, but the visit is not just for whisky enthusiasts. Travelers will also appreciate the beautiful surroundings and the rich history of the place. Overall, a great destination for anyone visiting the area!

Our first stop on a tour down to Islay. I had not actually heard of Deanston before this visit and now their 15 year old fine oak (available in Canada) is always a great addition to my stock. We had a lovely tour of the distillery production floor, learned that the film 'Angels Share' was partly filmed there, and that the black bricks are actually caused by whiskey fumes (not coal or smog). We got chided by our tour guide (in fun) for eating some of here barley that had fallen from a delivery truck out the back. Fantastic tour.

Thomas our guide was amazing. His knowledge was first class and he really looked after us both. I would thoroughly recommend visiting as I work in the business at another distillery and Deanstons is right up there. Well done.

We had an amazing time here! Our tour guide Brian was great, very knowledgeable and allowed us to take the tour at our own pace. The tasting experience was also great, even for someone who is not completely into whiskey. 10/10, must do while in the area.

The warehouse #4 tour felt like a private experience since we visited during the slow season (December 2025). Our tour guide, Brian, was incredibly knowledgeable, answering all our questions while providing an in-depth look at the craft behind making Scotch whisky. We had the pleasure of tasting some remarkable, well-aged Scotch whiskies, including a 28-year-old selection! The experience felt intimate and personalized. The merchant booth attendant, whose name I unfortunately can't recall (maybe Thomas), was exceptionally friendly and courteous. They even provided a box to help us carry our purchases—yes, we bought quite a bit of merchandise and bottles to bring back to the States! Overall, I would rate this experience a solid 10/10. Special thanks to Brian for his impressive expertise and dedication to making our visit extraordinary. Thank you, Deanston family, for your warm hospitality. We will definitely be back!

A small but lovely distillery. Stopped here on a bunch on way back from Monteith. George- an elderly gentleman- guided me through a private tasting and introduce me to my now favorite whiskey "Bunnahabhain".

One of the best whisky tours and tastings I have done. Thomas and Sally welcomed us as friends and made our time at Deanston truly special.

Beautiful place and a great tour.

We had an amazing time at the Deanston Distillery. Special shout-out to our guide Thomas who was not only very knowledgeable and passionate about all things whisky, but also super accommodating and patient as we translated everything to our mum who didn't understand English. Overall we left with the impression that Deanston has found a unique balance between tradition and innovation. I'd highly recommend the distillery tour as a stop if you're planning day trips around Edinburgh/Stirling.

Enjoyed the winterfest on 08 /12/24 ( my birthday treat!). Fantastic and knowledgeable hosts, lots of fun activities for kids too. Oh, not to forget the hosts in the shop - very helpful.

We went to the Cocktail Masterclass, would 100% recommend we had a lovely time . Learned loads of good tips on making cocktails . The two guys who took the class were very knowledgeable and happy to help us make our cocktails, we made 4 cocktails in the 1 hour session which was great . We had Expresso Martini, whiskey soda , Old fashioned and a sour cocktail made with egg whites which was the favourite. Get wrapped up as outside in the Tent on a cold Scottish Wintery December, tent was decorated beautifully. We had Christmas Dinner in the newly refurbished cafe after which was delicious, could not fault a thing . Well done Deanston.

Just finished our tour with Brian! We had a fantastic time. He’s extremely knowledgeable and personable. There was an issue with our reservation and he was kind enough to take us on a private tour and tasting. The whole experience was exceptional!

George was very passionate about all the process of making Deanston whisky and answered all our questions. Distillery settled in an old industrial building, using the local ressources (water of the river...) and producing its own electricity with hydro electric station. Authentic experience, I highly recommend

What lovely experience, we're on our honeymoon and we just went into the shop without a tour. And wow these people work with so much passion. Even without booking a tour you'll get loads of information and witty jokes. George and Thomas, thank you for this epic experience!

Amazing tour and guide! It is very cool what Deanston is doing! The tequila cask finish was my favorite.

Have done many tours but this was exceptional. The storage was what I was interested. Decent pricing and the testing is a must do.

We were there spontaneously and were able to take part in a guided tour. Very nicely done, nice tasting afterwards and nice shop. You can also enjoy delicious food in the on-site café before or after the tasting. We still had to drive and were allowed to take our samples with us in small bottles. Well done and everyone was very friendly. The whiskey is also delicious - rather milder. Not smoky.

Touring Deanston today with our guide George was excellent. History, Evolution, Production, and Maturation, this was a fantastic tour weaving our way through the site and its life producing its wonderful whisky. Looking forward to enjoying my purchases. Slàinte Mhath.

Deanston is a distillery with a unique character that is definitely worth visiting. Where other distilleries can score points with picturesque surroundings, it is the industrial charm that makes Deanston as a distillery and the whiskey itself so special. As a tourist from the Ruhr area you feel at home here ;) the tour is recommended and there are always some worthwhile distillery exclusives in the in-house shop.

Great whiskey and a nice tour with super friendly staff. Avoid the mega houses and stick to a place making whiskey the correct way with no chill filtration or column stills.

The 45-60 min tasting tour was fantastic. Perfect introduction to Scotch, and Scottish Distilleries. Thomas was our guide and did a brilliant job, from the history of Deanston, to explaining how a drop of water can completely change the taste of Scotch. Would highly recommend everyone to stop by and take to the tour, or even just visit the shop.

I did the Warehouse No. 4 tour. It's a bit expensive, but it was worth it to taste straight from the barrel! Luckily, our group was very small, so the tour felt very personal, and we had time to chat and ask questions in between the informative parts. The whisky all tasted very good! I love that they reuse all different types of barrels, including American bourbon ones! It was fun to taste the differences among them. They told me Deanston is sold in my state (I'm from american), so I will definitely be looking for it!

Amazing experience doing the warehouse no.4 tour and tasting. Really opened my eyes to how important the barrel is for scotch whisky. Our guide George was great as well.

Although we didn't take a tour due to time constraints, we would like to point out that you can purchase miniature bottles of almost all types of whiskey on offer here. A very good alternative to on-site tasting, especially for the more exclusive varieties... especially if you're traveling by car!

I do really recommend the Warehouse 4 tour tasting with Thomas Keane. We booked the Tour at 15:30 and WE we're the only guests, so this was an exclusive Tour with joyful chats , detailed Infos but not teaching the people what to taste in the Whisky....4 great probes of their aged barrels Made me really smile, very cool experience worth every penny

We booked the warehouse tour as a small group. The great employee Kenny let us taste 3 great whiskeys. He explained a lot to us about whiskey and was always able to answer our many questions and was primarily responsible for a really nice and successful afternoon. The distillery shop and the café also invited you to linger. Really worth a visit.

Our small group had the privilege of doing a tasting with Brian as our tutor, and what a special experience that was! We had been to about 10 other distilleries, and this tasting was by far one of the best. Why? Brian was expertly knowledgeable about whisky and clearly passionate about it. The tasting was generous, personal, and very informative (we loved the "copper dog"!). The whiskies too very good, and my husband bought an bottle of distillery-exclusive whisky, signed by none other than Brian...the memory of the tasting itself, coupled with the whisky once it gets to Scottsdale, AZ, will be greatly enjoyed. Highly recommend Deanston Distillery!

We did the warehouse experience and it was spectacular. Great guide, great whisky and would definitely recommend. We tried a 2006 4th fill hogshead, 2011 1st fill ex bourbon cask from makers mark, a 1995 champagne cask finish, and a 1992 px finish - all cask strength and delicious

We had a Warehouse 4 Whiskey Experience. George was great and explained the whiskeys with passion. The highlight was the sample of 3 high-quality whiskeys straight from the wooden barrel.

Production of excellent quality local whiskey.

My wife and I visited the distillery for the “Old and Rare” tasting. It was an absolutely wonderful experience. The whisky was old, rare, and wonderful, and the information provided during the tasting was interesting and informative. I couldn’t recommend it more. As an aside, those passing through Doune and Deanston may find a lack of restaurants. The distillery has a great little cafe and bar you can visit even if you’re not taking a tour of the distillery.

Lovely distillery. Took visitors there today and did the tour with George as our guide. I’ve been to other distilleries but found this to be one of the best. George was really good, explaining all the processes, intricacies and passion that goes into producing this beautiful whisky.

Great distillery tour with a fantastic guide, Mollie. It was quite loud at times but it was quite interesting and the tasting really showed the different flavors made by different casks and ages.

Very disappointed, too expensive, child accepted but an 8 year old child who doesn't speak the language gets bored very quickly because he doesn't understand anything. No photos allowed, I've never seen that anywhere else... The worst distillery visited in Scotland!

Lovely staff at the Distillery. Very knowledgeable and great whiskey! I had worn my sandals in error and could not walk round the distillery but was given a 1:1 talk about the process with a member of staff and the whiskey tasting which was very enjoyable.

Popped to the distillery earlier today really excited to try some of their limited edition whiskeys, just to be told that they are way too busy to help us in the shop and that we can sign up for their ridiculously expensive tasting which didn't serve them in 2 hours time. Alternative option was to go into a cafe which was a separate business where dogs are not allowed and only core range of whiskeys is served. The worst part of it all was that people before us and after us were offered to try whiskeys in the shop. Hence at this stage I'm not sure if it's discrimination, poor customer service or absolute lack of interest in your customers, but I know for sure that I wouldn't return or recommend anyone to visit. P.S. After I left with the dog being quite upset at this stage, my husband went to the cafe to at least try the core range. On the way out he managed to speak with someone much more professional, who offered him loads of advice and whiskeys to try fulfilling the initial purpose of the visit. Thanks to the other member of staff, my husband got what he wanted and I have a chance to explore some Limited edition whiskey in the comfort of my own home as he bought a couple of bottles in the end. NB: 1 star rating is based on my experience and I'm sure it would have been much better if my husband wrote this review as he was very impressed with the product

Everything was just great, staff, whiskey, friendliness, food. I don't see any need for further improvement there. I'm already looking forward to my next visit, which will be very soon!

The staff are warm and welcoming. Dogs allowed in their reception. Why not pour your own bottle and write the label. The reception area is well laid out and welcoming. Looking to do some tasting? Let their capable sraff take you in hand A bit to eat? They got you covered.

We had an incredible warehouse tour here and definitely think it is worth a visit! Luckily there were only four of us on the tasting so we were able to chat pretty freely. The samples we pulled from the barrel were all available in the shop so you could take home any of them that you enjoyed. I also appreciated the smaller bottles that the shop had as I was travelling and couldn't get the larger stuff through security so that's a big plus for me. Special recognition to Lauryn for being such a great guide!

Connor was amazing at our gin and scotch tasting today. Highly recommend especially if you're in the area for Doune Castle.

We didn't have time for the tour today but had lunch at the really nice cafeteria and my friend purchased so.e items from the gift shop. A former cotton mill, the site was converted to a distillery in 1966. It now has a world wide reputation for producing quality malt whiskey of many varieties. Situated adjacent to the River Teith. The distillery is a picturesque place, well worth a visit.

Thomas was a great guide through the whiskey tours. He was very knowledgeable, kind, and approachable.

I was here for the second time today. In 2019 I did my first warehouse tour here. Since then I have continued to develop my love for whiskey. But Deanston still remains my favorite. Today we were passing through here. We only ate here briefly. The employees are super friendly. The food can only be recommended. I look forward to seeing you again. Hopefully a little longer and enjoy my Deanston at home

Popped in on Sunday afternoon while driving through and asked about a tour and tasting, we were pleasantly surprised when we were offered a private tour and tasting. Thomas was an amazing guide and the whiskey was great. I highly recommend booking a tour and spending some time here.

Really great place for lunch! Superb haggis bon bons with a whisky sauce, delicious parsnip soup (in two sizes) and the best club sandwich ever. Excellent staff and in beautiful surroundings. Good shop on the way out too. Highly recommended.
