The Wooden Deli in North Tyneside

I popped as I was working in the area an tried the double topped burger… absolutely amazing … best burger I’ve ever had!!!!!

I have used the Wooden Deli 2-4 days a week since our office moved to North Shields in May and have never been dissapointed with anything I've bought, awesome sarnies and very reasonably priced, nice and friendly staff who are always happy to accomodate my fussy needs

One word - dreadful. Two words - Run down. Toilets - poor, hand drying facilities, one dirty old hand towel. Apart from that the coffee was lovely. Review photos are many years old and badly out of date.

We used to come before COVID, but have returned to our old favourite! The coffee was excellent and the food delicious. I had the Fuel Stop, but with blackcurrant jam instead of chilli. Amazeballs!

Can't fault the service or staff. Awesome will definitely be returning. Morning Glory, Latte and a Blue moon we'll priced

Excellent choice of food items and very reasonably priced. I opted for the Man O'War in the absence of available Cajun chicken. It was very spicy so if you like a bit of heat I'd definitely recommend it. Staff were really friendly and the service was fast considering it was the lunch rush. Lots of regulars from what I could tell.

The fact that we visited for breakfast and returned a couple of days later for the same, tells you that the place, people and food are all fine. Would definitely recommend trying it out if you’re in the area as we all really enjoyed it.

Ordered a take away sausage and egg sandwich with tomato sauce and a white coffee. Sub standard sausage with a watery vinegar based ketchup. The coffee "Cold" DIABOLICAL

A classic example of how a local cafe can give something different from the chains. Friendly and helpful staff. Seems like nothing is a problem. Obviously used a lot by the local community. Always a good sign. Thanks to you all Jane

Excellent food, great coffee but most importantly service was friendly and accommodating. Had a sausage and mushroom sandwich (which sounds simple but it's actually quite difficult to get a good one!) which was of a good size, perfectly cooked and great value. Cheers

I have been a customer at the Wooden Deli for a number of years and go on a regular basis. The staff are extremely friendly, laid back and aim to please customers. In my time coming to the deli I have got to know other customers who all enjoy the atmosphere and community spirit that this establishment provides. The food has always been nutricious, and very good value and in my experience always well prepared. The coffee IS SECOND TO NONE. This is evident in the amounts of folk who come to the deli for it. Well done to everyone concerned. And yes, it is easy to make friends when you regularly go to this cafe and become part of it. Keep doing what you are doing Scott and the team. You make may folks lives worth while.

I have been coming here once or twice a week to get my lunch the staff are so friendly and welcoming they remember the little thing that I get I would not go any where and sitting in is very cosy

Were meeting our daughter off the ferry on her birthday and decided to take her out for breakfast for a birthday treat. Checked trip advisor for reviews and this place looked great. I can only assume that the reviews have all been written by friends of the manager.After all the good reviews we'd read, we were disappointed with the breakfast. AFTER we'd ordered we were told there was no mushrooms and we'd be given an extra instead, which turned out to be disappointing tinned tomatoes. Those that had the full breakfast were given one fried egg, whilst those on the light option were given two, which was clearly the wrong way round. The toilets were disgusting; the worst I have seen anywhere in many a year. As I was paying I was asked if everything was ok, and when I said about each of the above, she just said 'yes' as if to say 'I know, but that's the way it is', no such thing as an apology.

We were staying at the Premier Inn but decided not to take the breakfast offered there at £9.50 instead tried here after reading reviews. So glad we did. Massive Full Monty breakfast with large coffee for less than it would have cost at hotel. Friendly staff and fab food. We’ll be back on Monday just a pity they’re closed on a Sunday. Highly recommend.

We always pop in here for a sandwich and coffee. A great range on the menu board and daily specials. The deserts are fab and you’ll definitely be tempted to try one.

Have eaten in and ordered takeaway food. The burgers and panninis are excellent. Have tried the psycho sauce on the burger which is very hot but worth the numbness of the tongue. They have excellent choice of rolls and drinks.

Who'd thought that this quiet little place serves the hottest sandwiches in the North East? For the hardcore fiery chilli enthusiasts I would highly recommend the Wooden Deli to challenge your glands!

I work in North Shields and we have food at work. However on a Friday we have a takeout from somewhere or go out for lunch. I have a huge obsession with bacon and cranberry so opted for this. It may have been a one off but unfortunately it was more like a large jam sandwich and the bacon and Brie were barely there

The food at the wooden Deli Is fresh and tasty. The atmosphere is always relaxed and the friendly. Very reasonably priced for the quality and size of portions.

I went there for a quick lunch - was surprised at how much came when I was just expecting a sandwich. Huge sandwich and mountains of salad.Very friendly staff, nice atmosphere, bright and cheerful. Would recommend if you are in the area and have 30 minutes to enjoy lunch.

Popped in for a coffee and sandwich and the choice was great, they so a lovely hot chicken with chilli jam it's mouth watering. The cakes are hard to resist. Coffee is good too.

I was in North Shields and fancied a light lunch so I went to The Wooden Deli because I have eaten there before and the food was excellent. I decided on The Spanish Omelette with Salad and was not disappointed.The omelette was superb and the salad that accompanied it was equally tasty.I also had a pot of tea and as I like my tea weak, they left the tea bag on the side, so I could brew to my personal strength. A Fantastic Lunch, as I expected and I will have this meal again

The wooden deli is a great little restaurant in North Shields. Visited three times and on all occasions the staff were very friendly and the food excellent. It's not posh but it's got a lovely feel very popular with return customers. We love the vegetarian burgers were disappointed on our second visit when they didn't have any left. Please keep them in stock. Any of the burgers can be adapted and the Mexican is lovely. The new salsa is very spicey so if you don't do eat be wary. Love the big pot of tea and the coffees are also good. Only disappointment is the opening hours which is understandable in this location but a later night one day a week would be welcome for a nice tea visit. Will be returning and would recommend for a spot of lunch.

Visited for the first time today having walked past hundreds of times. Called in for coffee and cake and the carrot cake was the best I have ever had. A casual atmosphere and welcoming, friendly staff. Having seen the menu it will not be long before I return to try one of their meals which looked extremely inviting.

This is still my favourite drop in for coffee and breakfast. Wide range of freshly cooked wholesome food, superb coffee, and friendly staff.

I have visited The Wooden Deli on 3 occasions and every time they have served fresh, good food in a friendly and clean environment.Their sandwiches are made to order and they have an extensive choice. I always find time to sit at their tables and be served by The Wooden Deli’s very friendly staff. Friday is my favourite day which is the day they have Hot Roast Pork sandwich on the menu. Cut straight from the joint, I have stuffing, mustard and apple sauce on it. Great value for £2.95 and with a fresh cup of quality coffee it’s a good place to visit.It will be always on my future visit list and well worth popping into.

My cheeseburger was delicious. And my nephew (who is very fussy) ate his like he'd never been fed before! This is definitely a 5 star!

The only place to go in North Shields if you want excellent fresh and delicious food and drinks, the staff are amazing and always make you feel really welcome, with daily specials there is always something different to choose from, the breakfasts are amazing and for only £4.00. Thank you for being what you are, simply wonderfull.

I have visited this establishment numerous times over the last few years, and wholeheartedly recommend it. A down to earth, no nonsense, café with superb coffee and a warm welcome to match. The food is plentiful, and caters for those who like the regular ham and cheese type sandwiches, baked potatoes and salads, to those who prefer a specialist burger or hotdog with a variety of excellent fillings, some hot and spicy. I have steadily worked my way through the menu and have enjoyed everything I have eaten. The blue cheese Panini, and the Bombay are particular favourites of mine. They also serve a great selection of teas, and also do a fantastic chilli on Chilli Wednesday, and a Hot Pork Friday for a bun full of roast pork with all the trimmings. All to eat in or take away. The staff are ALWAYS very friendly and very attentive, and have become more like friends. Just go to the Wooden Deli, you won't be disappointed.

I am not really a cheeseburger fan but when a pal said I should try it, I visited this highly recommended café.I was not disappointed as I was given the best Blue Cheeseburger I have ever had.It is a conveniently situated café with friendly helpful staff and I like the rustic feel of the place. Now a favourite if I want a snack: eat in or take away

Visited this place with a work colleague for our lunch break. We both had home made lentil and vegetable soup, it was delicious and came with what was stated on the menu as a mini roll. Definitely not mini, a small stottie, for those unfamilliar a large bread bun with an equally good amount of soup. I am fussy when it comes to soup but this was absolutely delicious and very filling. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The price was very good also, a pot of tea and the soup was around the £4 mark, well worth the money. My friend had soup, coffee and a panin that came with the soup for under £5.

We used Tripadvisor to search for a breakfast location whilst in North Tyneside. The Wooden Deli came out on top so we went for a breakfast roll today. The staff were attentive and cooked fresh bacon and sausages on rolls the size of truck wheels. These were delicious and the cups of tea made with real tea bags. Just as we were leaving took the opportunity of a couple of take rolls of the same size as our bacon and sausage rolls. Would I go back, yes I would. On the negative side they do not deliver to Plymouth, Devon!!!

Come here at least once every couple of month for dinner and it does not disappoint! Lovely choice of sandwiches/paninis/burgers food doesn't take long to prepare. Gets busy sometimes so it's best to ring up of you are wanting to take away! Lovely service from the lady behind the counter and not too pricey either!!

I am into cycling and have passed by here on my way up to Whitley Bay or Blyth and for the first time stopped and called in yesterday morning. It was a lovely morning so sat at a table outside in the sunshine. Typical cyclist I ordered a bacon and egg sandwich, cake and cup of tea. The food was delicious and I thought I had been undercharged it was so cheap. The staff were very pleasant, and polite. I will definitely go again, soon, and would recommend The Wooden Deli to anyone.

Really cannot fault this place. Nowhere in the centre of North Shields can compete with the Wooden Deli. Fresh tasty food and great customer service, the price is very reasonable for the quality you get. If you are planning a picnic you can ring ahead and pick up your picnic on the way to your trip up the coast. Well done :)

As I work on the Fish Quay I pass this place every day and have never ventured in. I decided to have my lunch here today. I was very impressed with the choice, quality and price. I will return!

Great to see that the lovely Wooden Deli continues to be busy and popular providing friendly service, value for money and variety. The Wooden Deli team have worked hard to win their well deserved reputation. The menu is bursting with tasty temptations... filling breakfasts, creative baguettes, quality burgers and all kinds of inventive, healthy salads. There really is something for everyone. If like us you like chilli and spices then the Marley burger with jerk sauce is a treat, if you like it extra hot then the Psycho burger will blow your socks off! Wow! They also do a range of sweet delights too - if you have room! Go and see for yourself.

I found this little gem about a week ago. It is really good and anyone who knows about burgers will really appreciate the quality of the food.I chose a vegetarian burger for breakfast and it was the best i've tasted... I went there again during the week nearer to lunchtime and everything was perfect. I'm going to try the garlic sauce next time.

If you are looking for somewhere to buy your lunch whether a sandwich to take out or fancy a sit down the Wooden Deli is the best place in North Shields center. The staff are really friendly and there is always a good selection of stuff to choose from. The homemade soup on a cold day is great

I visited a few weeks ago just for a coffee and to see some paintings that were displayed. I was so impressed that I returned a week or so later to try the food. Really nice place, very friendly and welcoming staff and the food was brilliant. Lots to choose from and the coffee here is very nice. Would highly recommend. I will be back very soon!! Not surprised at how great the reviews are.

I been coming here for over a year now and I can not fault the service or food.. The staff are spot on they are very friendly and all ways happy which is a bonus.. I recently had a blue brothers burger and it was the most enjoyable burger I have for a while it wAs full of flavour..

I always use the wooden deli, have done for a while now and all I can do is praise the place, food is spot on, staff are spot on, surroundings are spot on! I love all the selection of sauces you can purchase and the staff are more than happy to assist you in anything you ask.

Today, I had the great pleasure of visiting 'The Wooden Deli' in North Shields whilst my car in for repair at the Auto Electricians nearby. Not having been before and having to spend up to a couple of hours waiting for my car, I was not looking forward to wandering around in the freezing cold just after 09.00hrs, and I saw this place and thought I could maybe spend half an hour or so with a cup of coffee, killing time. As I walked in, I was greeted by one of the warmest welcomes that I have ever experienced from a first visit. I ordered a cup of coffee and asked if they had wifi, yes I'll get you the password was the reply without hesitation and was promptly given it. On top of that, my computer battery gave up and they let me plug it in to finish my task. An hour and a half later, I left and not once did they make me feel that I was taking advantage of their hospitality by using their wifi and staying so long with just a coffee. I left feeling as if I was one of their best customers but I have to add, that if the full English breakfasts that the workmen sat on the next table were having was anything to go by .... If I lived closer ...... I would be.

Another excellent lunch at this, the best eatery in North Shields town centre. Friendly, welcoming staff and delicious, reasonably priced food. Excellent burger menu.

The 1st time I went to the deli was over a year ago. I now go several times a week. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. It's great value for money too. I would and have recommended The Wooden Deli numerous times.

Ever since their menu was dropped in our office door we have been hooked on the beautiful food available from the deli. Sit in or take out. The food is always spot on, well presented and tasty, just like the staff! Sadly our office is closing and we will all miss visiting the deli on a weekly basis. I cannot recommend this place enough and I'll be sure to make the trek across Tyneside whenever I can.Thank you Christina & Scott, you guys are awesome

We had another lovely lunch at The Wooden Deli last week. We continue to be impressed with the amount of choice, and evolving menu. They are very inventive and always offering new taste combinations of sandwiches salads and soups as well as their famous burgers. (Or should I say infamous in the case of the Psycho Burger!) The Wooden Deli continue to have high standards in their food and customer care. Number one? They certainly deserve it!

Customer service at it's finest, peppermint slice as a thank you and hot Italian baguette to die for!!! Love visiting every time I come to North Shields :)

Visited today at lunch and it was busy with take outs which meant we had to wait a while for our food. We were told this would be the case so it was not a problem. A lovely cafe to sit and chat with no pressure. The staff were really welcoming and accommodating. The food was fine, but could be better with small improvements. For example, if the burger buns were upgraded it would take the burgers to the next level. Similarly, the cheese on the panini could be cooked for longer to allow it to melt more. These are minor issues and not complaints; it is a cafe I would recommend for a light lunch or sandwich.

Just wanted a cup of tea and a snack at 10 to 3 on Saturday. Needed somewhere handy. We had been on this street before and not noticed the facility available. Glad we stopped great cup of tea and a toastie. Just missed the soup. Sounded like it was going to be good. We would not hesitate to call in again. Good food and tea.

Just came across this place today and wasn't sure what to expect But from the moment I walked in at 2:30, I was made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble . Even though they must have had a busy lunch already .Brilliant value and good qualityI will go back

Food is good, bit basic, but good and the staff are friendly. They do have a wide variety of burgers with very quirky names.The restaurant part can be quite crowded as the tables are close together. But there is a VERY comfy sofa in the corner.

Lovely clean trendy cafe/takeaway with friendly staff and great food. Good selection of jams, oils, crisps also available. Leather chairs and wooden furniture, you get the picture...

The Wooden Deli is just over the road from my office and we go there nearly every date for lunch. You will not find a more delightful, value for money and more welcoming cafe in North Shields. It's not just about the food, which is excellent by the way, its also about the service and how they look after their customers. We are always welcomed with a smile, they remember how we like our food and nothing is ever a problem. I tried the Double Blues Burger for the first time today on the recommendation of the previous reviewer, take a look at the attached photo, it was excellent!

Stopped for lunch here and the food was delightful, a large range of sandwiches, burgers or light lunches (salad, jacket potato). The staff are lovely and I would say everything is well priced. I really liked the fact you could control how spicy your food was, therefore you knew exactly what you were getting. My boyfriend & I can definitely vouch for the Jammin Chicken and the Blue Moon Burger, they both tasted amazing! There's an option to sit outside as well so when the sun is shining you can still enjoy it. I will definitely be returning!

Having only been to The Wooden Deli twice now, we will surely be regulars, we can't believe we've never tried it before. The food is delicious, well presented and really fresh. The menu is excellent, you'll be spoilt for choice. There are plenty of meat and veggie options so there'll be something for everyone, from breakfasts to hot baguettes, cold deli sandwiches to omelettes. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and nothing seems like too much trouble for them. If you want really tasty food and good portions at a great price, try The Wooden Deli, you won't be disappointed!

Some of the best burgers, panini sand sandwiches around, original ideas for many. The Mexican burger is superb. Lots of local sauces and other specialist ingredients on sale too. I've been going for years and gets better all the time

My parents are regulars at this gem, visiting at least once a week.During a weeks visit home they insisted I give it a go. To say I was impressed is an understatement The food was delicious, a very warm and friendly atmosphere, and the staff are brilliant especially the "Blonde Woman behind the counter" who took the time to make me feel so welcome. I live in Dubai, and have dined all over the world with my job as Air Crew. The "Wooden Deli" is now in my favorite's list of places I have been for food.As for the negative review , all I can imagine is the woman was dreaming. I will be back next time i am in the country. .

I am writing this review in response to a negative review I have just read, which was very unfair.I am a regular visitor (as are all my family) and have never had anything but kindness from all the staff. The atmosphere of The Wooden Deli is warm and friendly with professional service at all times. The management's enthusiasm for their business and respect and appreciation for their customers is clear. It would be a shame if the Wooden Deli's excellent reputation is spoiled by those comments.Ignore the negative review and go see for yourself.

A great deli with all the usual food but on top of that a great range of sauces and sandwich combinations if you're looking to mix it up a bit. The food is always fresh and the sandwich of the week is always something to look forward too, as well as the hot pork sandwich on a Friday!Overall, a very friendly place with good staff, good prices and amazing food.

Whenever I fancy a healthy treat I drop by this little gem of a deli and can always pick up something tasty and filling for a decent price. So far I've tried a couple of different sandwiches and two different salad boxes and can honestly say that it's my favourite food treat in North Shields. The staff are fabulous, very helpful and always willing to swap or change an advertised sandwich or salad to suit my needs. I sent a picture of one of my salads to my other half and now she wants me to take her if we're in the area one weekend - I think she feels like she's missing out and if I'm honest, she is!

Had the afternoon off and was out in about in North Shields and was getting a bit hungry so I went to the best Deli/Café in town! I ordered my favourite sandwich the BLT, I asked for the bacon a bit crispy and it was perfect as was the rest of sandwich, great people with a wonderful café

The Wooden Deli remains our favourite stop for fresh, tasty and good value meals. This friendly cafe continues to produce quality, wholesome and delicious fast food cooked to order. We are regulars because it never fails to please in taste but also has consistently high standards of service and attention to detail. Unlike chains of mainstream eateries this hard working local business care passionately about their cafe and customers. We love their burgers which are outrageously good. We highly recommended the legendary Psycho Burger which is the Holy Grail for chilli fiends. ( Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough!) With local businesses going to the wall and bland corporate fast good chains everywhere The Wooden Deli remains an oasis for foodies!
