Great breakfast, been a couple of times and always a good experience. Something different? Try Shakshuka with Nduja. It's very tasty with lovely fresh sourdough bread and really nice. The full monty is great if you fancy a hangover cure! Friendly service, good value and well worth a vist!

Amazing visit once again! We absolutely love this place for pizza- the beef ragu pizza is the best I’ve ever had! We then decided to stop for coffee this morning and my goodness… the best avocado and eggs I’ve ever had too! Staff are always so friendly and accommodating. We’ve been a couple of times with our new baby now and they always make sure we’re well looked after, which is an utter bonus as there’s quite a few places non so much with a baby. Lovely people and super service. Open one closer to Newcastle now. Definitely up there as one of our best finds.

Visited ‘Monty’s’ on its second weekend after opening and it did not disappoint 😍. Ordered the shakshuka (one veggie and one ndjua) and they were delicious, full of flavour with perfectly cooked eggs. Also highly recommend the brunch mimosas and bloody Mary’s. Staff were lovely and friendly and welcoming as always. Can’t wait to head back to try the waffles and ginevra gelato.

Visited last night after a lovely walk with friends. A party of eight and all of us said the food was amazing, best garlic bread ever & huge meaty prawns! Fab service, really cosy great selection of drinks for those drinking & dry January. Thanks for a lovely night, we will be back!

My first visit and certainly won't be my last. Came here with a group of 17 work colleagues. The Pizzas were amazing along with the starters, sides and drinks selection. The atmosphere was warm and friendly, staff were attentive and welcoming. Would definitely recommend. Thanks for a fab evening

Visited tonight with my husband and 2 young daughters. Great atmosphere, attentive staff, beautiful fresh food full of flavour 😋 and a lovely selection of drinks. This place has a fantastic vibe and we really enjoyed the music choice, especially my 2 year old who had a good dance on a number of occasions. The kitchen staff never stopped and neither did the door, every table was full and the number of takeaway boxes going out speaks volumes. Wish we lived closer as we’d be regulars without a doubt. We went for a takeaway and ordered 4 pepperoni pizzas, the dough was lovely and toppings were fresh.....so filling too, we had to leave some and save it for the next day. Better pizza than any other takeaway we've had.

A group of us (6) descended on the Wood Oven as part of our reunion evening. Quite small, very cozy inside. Eclectic, artisan pizzas. Tasty....😁 2 of us were not partaking in alcohol ( driving ), I don't like fizzy drinks etc, but do enjoy either tea or coffee. I was disappointed to be informed they serve neither!! Really??? 😳 As I had been drinking coffee prior at the pub opposite, I asked whether I could bring one over....yes, no problem! So across the road, takeaway coffee and back to my table! Gave us a laugh and made the night memorable!

My husband organised a surprise party for me with friends and family here at the Wood Oven and what excellent service, collaboration and willingness he described in the whole planning and execution. Not to mention the absolutely 5 star food, drink, and service we received. I don’t know what a couple of minor previous reviews are talking about when they say The Wood Oven is not what it used to be - the quality is absolutely gold standard, they have added fantastic sides which I always wanted previously, a range of new pizza toppings which are delicious. We had a party of 19 - only 4 others of whom had been before and everyone was so thrilled with everything. Really can’t fault anything on this visit, thank you to all the team and big props to you all with the new branding and adapted menu- going from strength to strength I’d say!

This place used to be fantastic before it was bought by new owners. We used to go regularly and have been a few times since. However, the quality of the pizzas has gone down. The pesto used to be home made, it’s now just a jar of pesto on a pizza. The sausage used to be high quality but has been replaced by cheaper ingredients. It is still good for the area but nowhere near what it used to be.

Yet again, The Wood Oven was incredible. This was our second visit, the first was just after Covid. I didn’t think it was possible but it was even better than the first. The lamb pizza was amazing, so fresh and so tasty!! The chips were perfect and the garlic dip was so good!. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. It’s a pleasure to sit inside, with a vibrant atmosphere and we were looked after throughout. I’ll definitely be back!

We stopped in here to have dinner as the pub across the street’s kitchen was closed. The place had plenty of open tables but they said we needed a reservation. We said Ok how about takeaway. Well they looked at us like we were from Mars. They definitely didn’t want our business. We’ve been around and never encountered at pizza place with this kind of attitude.

Couldn’t recommend it enough! Between our family we had prawns, bread, pizza, charcoal cheese, chips and everything was incredible. The restaurant itself has been renovated to make it feel warmer and more comfortable and the staff are really friendly and helpful!

Its 4 months since we have been here , and again I can’t rate this food highly enough. Its only 4 months since I reviewed this restaurant, (August 2019) and it was amazing then too. I think this time was even better, and the service was pretty much spot on.This time 5 of us visited for a birthday treat and so the menu got a much better work out.Everyone had a pizza and everyone really enjoyed them , even if they were so big that they not all of us could finish them but, between us, we had the pepperoni one, the anchovy pizza, the vegan meat feast and the pesto pizza. All first class and would be a knock out anywhere. They are made with sourdough, and baked to perfection for me in the genuine wood oven , yes it can get warm in this restaurant.Most pizza places do chips but here they are at least double fried and come like wedges. They are so good I had to have a bowl to myself. They are the home made ones, not the skinny ones, when you look at the menu.However, as usual, the rest of the meal leaves everyone gobsmacked with its high quality, variety and ingenuity. Firstly garlic bread with charcoal cheese sets a high standard, but the specials menu is where it really kicks on.I ordered a roasted red pepper salad, (for the table) thinking I might get it to myself, It comes on a large plate and is superbly dressed, with small peperancino on the side, and a roasted little gem lettuce, delicately flavoured with what might be a dressing of olive oil and a light soy sauce. The dish is dusted with an intensely flavoured red pepper dust made from roasted and dehydrated red pepper skin. All 5 of us wanted that dish and I had to share it eventually.We didnt have much room for desserts but managed 3 between us, all from the specials menu. I had an apple and raspberry crumble with raspberry ripple ice cream. The topping was oaty and out of this world, although it did defeat me in the end.The creme caramel was topped with raisins soaked in pedro ximenez which worked perfectly, and the peanutter pie was a multi layered treat of chocolate mousse, peanut butter, and plain chocolate on a buttery biscuit base. All in all, 5 of us had a 3 course meal with wine and beer for about £25 a head , and had some of the most creative, top quality cooking, that any pizza place has produced.

Lovely friendly place. We went for the first time on Friday night after seeing the reviews on TripAdvisor. We were not dissapointed. The staff were really helpful and the food exceptional. It may have been our first visit but definitely won't be our last.

Neatly tucked away, blink and you’ll miss it! Once you step inside be prepared to be amazed by the quality turned out here. We eat here regularly and usually have the specials, which are always a treat and we’ve never seen the same thing offered on successive visits. Travelled over 40 miles to have a meal here. The pizzas are amazing, really tasty and a wide variety. They also sell alcohol free beer which is a big plus for us.

I didn't expect to have a steak in a pizza restaurant but boy was I glad I did!. I wish I had taken a picture as it was a work of art. Beautifully sliced, medium rare and dressed with salad and balsamic dressing. It was delicious. My husband had a bespoke pizza (he wanted anchovies!) which the chef happily made for him. Great atmosphere, families, couples, friends. A couple of decent lagers on draught and reasonably priced wines. Can't wait to go back.

We are regular visitors, often for family special occasions as it has a very friendly relaxed atmosphere, but the food is another level. Starters look and taste amazing. Some really original and delicious pizzas - veggie specials always popular in our family, although I'm a big fan of the 'nduja. Get a portion of the chunky chips too, but only one to share as you really need to leave room for a pudding. This is proper cooking by a chef that knows what they are doing.

We enjoyed a superb meal at The Wood Oven last night. The food was amazing and the service was warm and friendly. Cannot recommend highly enough. Visit soon - you won't be disappointed.

This is our second visit to the Wood Oven, the pizza is fantastic, we also shared a garlic bread and roast cabbage for starters, the cabbage was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious, I could not imagine cabbage could be so good. The kids made their own pizza which they loved and a nice touch getting a kinder egg at the end of the meal. Will definitely be back!

The Wood Oven is not easy to spot if you are driving but find it and you won't be disappointed. The main menu is pizzas - many unusual toppings and plenty of it! It is a small restaurant and not open on Mondays or Tuesdays so best to book to avoid disappointment. The pizzas are cooked in the restaurant and the service is friendly and prompt. The food is very good and the prices reasonable.

Tried this restaurant following a glowing report from our neighbour. It certainly did not disappoint, the restaurant is small and unsophisticated in décor but the food was excellent, the wine outstanding and the service prompt and friendly. We both had pizzas, one with goats cheese and spinach and the other with pork and fennel sausage with chilli. Unusually they use a sour dough base which has more flavour and texture than the usual pizza base, when combined with some unusual toppings and fired in a wood oven it makes an exceptionally enjoyable pizza. The wine was exceptional, we had a bottle from their specials board of Appassimento, an "Amarone" style very rich red wine from Southern Italy it was delicious and at £18.95 a bottle easily delivered the most pleasure per £ that I have had in many years.

This place is small and cute and it’s nice to see the pizza oven and the chefs doing their thing. The food was delicious. The only downside was the service which was a bit lacking on this night. We had to ask for attention at all points in the night. It wasn’t busy but no one ever came to see if we were enjoying our meal, needed water, another round of drinks, desert, coffee, the bill. We had to constantly try to attract their attention. But non-the-less I’d still recommend a visit.

Didn't know where to go for tea, we ended up here. Didn't book but they squeezed us in before a booking. I did feel rushed but the pizzas were tasty, the gin was strong but enjoyable. And the home made desserts were bloody gorgeous.

Visited with a group of work friends for an after-hours supper. Very cosy place, attentive service and excellent menu. It's nice to see a working kitchen and quality meals; this does both. Reasonably priced and very good value for such delicious food.

Phoned at 6pm on a Friday and managed to get a booking (if we could get there within 30 minutes). Great pizzas - almost too big to get them all on the table. Interesting selection of beers and wines (though some of the latter are a bit pricey). Friendly staff, very good with children.

Where do i start..the standard pepperoni pizza wasn’t standard its to spicy to enjoy. When I asked for a half of larger, I was given pale ale. When querying it, the owner said the larger had run out...If I’d wanted pale ale I would have asked for it!! No apology just thought she knew better. I then asked for a cappuccino only to be given it with no spoon or sugar both of which i use. Younger staff though were much more helpful & attentive.

Na ons bezoek aan de pub aan de overkant (Fox and Hounds) waren wij opzoek naar een plek om iets te eten. Omdat er bij de pub niets bereid werd, waren wij eigenlijk een beetje hopeloos. Wij zagen veel mensen met pizzadozen uit een klein huisje lopen. Wij liepen erheen en de smakelijke lucht overviel ons! Jammer genoeg zat het helemaal vol. Toen wij later terug kwamen, was er gelukkig wel een plekje vrij. Het is een kleine en een hele knusse zaak! Het eten is er goed en de prijzen zijn oké. Alleen de alcohol was prijzig, maar dat is overal in Engeland. Je zou niet zeggen dat er een pizzazaak zit, maar hij zit er wel en nog niet door veel toeristen ontdekt!

Had an awesome dinner following day’s hike. Recommended by our B&B;, the place was superb. The salad was fresh and seasonal, the pizza was thin, crisp and cooked to perfection, the wine soothed our tired muscles, and the service was excellent.

The food is fantastic. Superb burrata and tomato starter. Excellent steak, obviously well sourced, perfectly cooked medium rare, great pizza and a lot of interesting choices. The best chunky chips i've had in a long time.

This is a tiny, local place that from the exterior looks like a shed.

We had two pizzas at the Wood Oven on a Friday night. It is a busy restaurant which caters for takeaways as well. My pizza which had fennel sausage on was really nice. However the pizza my husband had with spicy meatballs was not very spicy. It is a small cosy restaurant and I would think you would have to book to ensure you got a table.

Absolutely sensational food. The pizzas are prepared fresh in the wood oven and are bursting with flavour. The place is relatively small but always packed with a great atmosphere. Myself and my husband have visited on many occasions and have never been disappointed. My husband gets the steak everytime which comes on a bed of rocket and tomatoes. Excellent tasty fresh food. Definitely worth a visit.

We had been past the wood oven previously and thought we would book next time we camped at Wylam. We decided to have another night camping and booked the wood oven, we are so so pleased we did.

What a little gem this restaurant is. The pizzas as you would expect are made in an open wood oven. They are delicious and with a variety of ‘different’ toppings. However they will add or substitute ingredients for you as wanted. The wine list is good & they had a wonderful rosso frizzante (served chilled) as a special which was so drinkable. The starters & puddings were also lovely. My 3 friends had all been before, but it was a new experience for me & I’ll certainly go back. It was such a lovely night.

I have been to The Wood Oven in Wylam twice: once in November last year with a large group of colleagues and most recently in March 2018 with my partner as a birthday treat. On both visits I have been made to feel incredibly welcome by the friendly and accommodating staff. The Wood Oven has been consistently the best pizza experience I have had this side of Italy and the best vegan pizza I have EVER eaten! On our recent visit I had a vegan hot pepperoni which was simply delicious (and the wonderfully spiced vegan pepperoni was hand made onsite!). My partner had one of the specials; a purple sprouting broccoli and blue cheese pizza which looked and smelled divine and which J said was amongst his top 3 pizzas ever (high praise for a great fan and maker of pizza!). The whole meal, including drinks and a side of fries, came to less than £40 so was also incredibly good value for money - well worth the train fare from Newcastle. All in all, The Wood Oven is the best dining experience we have had in the North East.

Visited Wood Oven on a Friday night, after seeing the good reviews on Trip Advisor. We live in Ryton so had a 10/15 minute drive but it was absolutely worth it. The venue is cosy, the food is amazing and the staff are friendly. We’ll be back, very soon!
