My friends and I visited the Brixton Village location and it was lovely to sit outside the shop and get the atmosphere of the surrounding restaurants. It was really cosy with the fairy lights in the shop and it felt like a real treat to celebrate my birthday there. The staff were really attentive and the service was great. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and a great example of a wine bar in London. I look forward to my next visit. Thank you to Chix and co. for help with the booking! We really loved our visit, the wine was gorgeous.

We visited the village location as opposed to this one. I wound guess a more busy vibe here and people coming and gong far more. Great choice of wines. Delicious cheeses. Very friendly service and very knowledgeable about their craft. Not cheap but great value. Can but the wine at retail price as well.

Cuando regrese voy a comer todo ese delicioso queso que pude oler desde lejos y engullir vino tinto con él. Amor x

I am very surprised by other reviews, this was my second visit and both times we were treated very warmly. The first time I visited with a friend and the second time was a date. We arrived a bit late in the evening and the outside courtyard was full already (there are only a few tables and it was a warm night). So we were seated inside and guided through the menu. They offered to hang up my jacket and to let us know when a seat outside became available. It wasn't long before we were able to sit in the courtyard and sip a lovely glass of wine underneath the little fairy-lights. I had a lovely evening and the warm atmosphere is one of the main reasons why I would return.

My friend and I met here for wine and a bite to eat after work, we ordered our wine and a cheese, meat and bread and oil platter for two. When it arrived there was no bread, the waiter informed us that “some days the bread doesn’t come in...” We politely explained we didn’t really want it without the bread, he said he could take £3 off which was still very expensive for what was essentially a couple of pieces of cheese and some meats. We said we didn’t think that was OK as we had planned on having it as our meal, the manager came over to tell us rudely that our opinion was “subjective” and the focus of the dish is the cheese and meat and the bread is much less important.. Really there is no issue with the bread being unavailable, we would have understood had this been explained to us when we ordered, however the subsequent way we were spoken to was incredibly rude and patronising, and the platter was removed from us despite us already slicing into the contents. Very unlikely to return based on this experience, would recommend “Champagne et Fromage” which is based nearby instead!

Not cheap by Brixton standards but with good wine. Slightly precious winespeak comments on the wine mats but I am not drinking those so who cares. The charcuterie/cheese based menu is a little limited and a bit heavy for an entire evening to be spent here, I appreciate that you need larder food for this sort of set up but a bit more variety would improve it. Can get noisy if full

First up £7 for literally 12 slices of sausage and £3 for bread and oil is wildly over priced. The house wine was very nice. The atmosphere gets very loud and for a small space it hard to talk to more than one person without shouting. The fault here is with the acoustics of the small room and the fact they have the music on too loud so people start talking louder and it just escalates. Found the staff amenable but not overtly friendly.

We decided to try the store because we are always been attractive to. The shop is very nice but when is too busy sometimes you can't even hear each other talking.

After an evening at the Ritzy accompanying a group of our students to a showing of Almodovar's latest film, one of my colleagues recommended this place for a nice glass of wine before returning back to the leafy burbs. We were pleased to see it was half empty at 9.15 on a Thursday evening, thinking there would be room for us. But it was not to be. We were turned away as there were seven of us. "The owner has a strict policy on groups" we were told. "Yes", we said, "but it's quiet, we're quiet and we could come in in a three and a four if necessary". "But I know you're a group of seven". And that's where it ended. We went up to Brindisa up the road where we were welcomed with open arms, and where we spent our 60 quid. What a strange customer service policy, Wine Parlour. I'm nearly 60 and have never been denied entrance to a wine bar - it's a whole new world to be treated as a number and not as a person. Still being barred from a bar in Brixton has given me a whole new level of street cred with my students!

We recently were taken to the Wine Parlour by a friend of the owner (Chix) to sample the array of wines that the Wine Parlour has to offer. Based close to Brixton Tube and Brixton Market/Village, this is an area of London which we wouldn’t have normally come to but were so pleased we did as its clearly the happening place in London at the moment. The Wine Parlour has a wonderful cosy layout with the main bar/wine shop leading onto a small courtyard with some small tables and on the side is the wine tasting room which also hosts wine training courses. Arrive early as by 7:30pm the place is packed and buzzing with groups sampling the various wines on offer. As the owner directly imports the wines from the vineyard having developed a relationship with the vineyard, you are not going to find your standard commercial wines, rather wines which have been carefully selected for their quality and you can either just enjoy or ask the knowledgeable wait staff who all hold wine training accreditations about the wine and background etc.As with all wines, the taste changes based upon temperature, food etc. so we would recommend having a few of the snacks on offer, the bread and olive oil, the wonderful Goat’s cheese ‘n grape bomb is not to be missed as is the cheese selection. This is a wonderful place to go for a wonderful glass of wine before dinner, or just come and make an evening of the wine tasting and snacks to coming back after dinner for a nightcap. If you are lucky and get to meet the owner, her enthusiasm and knowledge is to be admired as is her bubbly personality. The biggest bonus is, whatever you like, you can take home at sensible prices.Highly Recommended reason to visit Brixton

What superlatives can I throw at this place!? All probably .... An amazing little gem in Brixton slightly away from the full-on madness of Brixton, it's like an oasis in the mayhem. Service is superb - for a small place, there may not be seating but the team are so polite and apologetic you don't mind getting turned away. They go out of their way to make you feel as though your part if their little 'family'. Fridays are particularly busy so best times to go are 630 ish or after 930. I've not even touched on their product - superb wine as you can imagine, but also lovely fresh breads - decadent cheeses and some luvvery charcuterie. Highly recommended! Try it out.

The Wine Parlour isn't a restaurant but a friendly, wine shop and bar just a few minutes walk from Brixton Market. There is a relatively small, but well selected list of wines - many which are exclusively imported from small family vineyards. For those who want to treat themselves, there are premium wines served in the Enomatic wine preservation system. Service at The Wine Parlour is professional and friendly and all the staff are all very knowledgeable about wine. If you aren't sure what you'll like, just tell them what sort of wines you usually enjoy and they will find something for you.If you fancy something to nibble the cheese and charcuterie boards are delicious and served with amazing sourdough and exclusively imported olive oil. The cheese bombs are a must if you're a fan of goat's cheese. If like me, you're a wine lover this place is well worth a visit.

Visited with a friend for a catch-up drinks, we had three 500ml pitchers, three glasses and two 1 person cheese plates, it was all delicious and the vibe was nice, but I was a little disheartened when given a £105 pound bill, which is more appropriate to what you would expect in Mayfair than in Brixton. Also, I later realised they charged us for three 8 pound cheese plates when we only had two.

This is a wonderbul plac,e and very much New Brixton, a fantastic cosy little wine bar, with only a handful of tables. The service is impecible, and very personal. The wine is good, and the prices reasonable, and they also do some cheeses and antipasti nibbles. I can see it attracts a sort of marmite response from people, who either love it or hate it. It can be veyr quirky, but that is a good thing. And as it has so few tables, it can be a bit of a struggle if it is busy. But it fills a fantastic niche in Brixton, and the owners and staff seem so wonderful and accommodating. i can't recommend this place enough.

I'm a local and was delighted with the new addition to the area, I thought it was a great idea and of course wanted to support an independent business. Incident No. 1I had visited with a friend when it first opened and had an unpleasant experience with a lady we have come to know as 'Chix' (one of the owners/managers). They were serving some sort of smoked/cured meats that we wanted to purchase, but I wanted to try it a little bit, as I had never tasted anything like it before, to which she responded "sorry we can't really let you try it, it's for paying customers only" ....... My friend and I, like anyone else would be, were utterly perplexed and a little shocked. I stared at the £28 bottle of wine (Chateau Armandiére) that I had just purchased (in support of the business, knowing full well that it was overpriced) and wondered whether I had just paid for it with a smile because as far as we were concerned, we were 'paying customers'. I said nothing, My friend finished his wine on the double and we ran out of there and SWORE never to return or support it again.Incident 2Fast forward a year. My friend from France came over and she's of course in love with wine. So I thought it would be grand idea to take her to the Wine Parlour ....... Big mistake! I had evidently forgotten about the horrendous experience I had the last time, but then I thought 'oh maybe 'Chix' was just having a bad day' .... no, no she wasn't. She's just simply rude and has an awful attitude. We both ordered a glass of wine and when it was served by a lovely chap called Diego, it appeared there was approx. 25ml more in one glass than the other. I was querying it with Diego when delightful 'Chix' marches over and barks "what's the problem!?", I politely told her that it appeared one glass had more wine in it than the other to which she responds "it's the shape of the glass" ........... Er, no, no it's not Chix. I have eyes and they work. She then snatches both of our glasses, tips it into THREE different measuring apparatus, returns and says "we over poured in one glass, I've tipped out the excess". Unsurprisingly, we were both shocked and queried why she would do that. She hisses "well you made a big deal out of it, I didn't think you deserved it and threw it away" and then she shrugged and marched away. Absolutely appalling customer service. We're paying £12 per glass of wine, I think we have every right to query. My poor friend was stunned. She, like I, had never come across anything like it. Poor Diego didn't even know what to do, He apologised profusely and extensively for her foul behaviour and said that is definitely not how he would have dealt with it. To be honest, I don't think anyone would have dealt with it like that - and I'm sure you all agree. It's either you level out the glasses or just say you over-poured and leave it as that, but to throw away wine and say that we didn't deserve it, was just terrible. We couldn't bring ourselves to drink the wine after that. I just felt sick, we both did. I paid the bill and tipped Diego and left the wine exactly as it was. Needless to say, I will NEVER, EVER go back to that place again, And I will most definitely never recommend it to anybody. If I'm feeling generous, I might suggest they ring up and ask if 'Chix' is going to be there, if she is, I'd advise them to steer clear. In a nutshell, I think that place is lovely, great atmosphere, lovely addition to the area and most importantly good wine, but 'Chix' lets it down greatly. Her attitude/customer service eradicates all of positive praise about the Wine Parlour. It's just not worth the hassle and upset it brings to you and to be honest, I wish I never stepped foot into that place, so I wouldn't have anything negative to say about it.Drinking wine is not supposed to be stressful.

The wine parlour signed up to Brixton flavours food festival, and those who had purchased tickets were offered either the chance for a sample or to purchase a "special" from their menu. After lovely experiences with many of the participating venues we were not expecting to be virtually pushed out of the door as we opened it by the person we now know as "Chix" shouting that they were not serving any new people. Too shocked to ask whether they would be doing so later we allowed ourselves to have the door slammed in our faces and then witnessed the same humiliation of a number of others as they attempted to go in... With the final couple having the door loudly locked as they were turfed out.Walking past a few times over the rest of the afternoon we noticed her having a drink with her colleagues in her mostly empty (and locked) venue, with a sign on the door saying the restaurant was closed to festival participants, but would be open from 5pm for customers only.Perhaps she needs reminding that festival ticket holders had paid for their tickets, and so expecting the wine parlour to deliver what they had advertised was not unreasonable.... and that the festival holders were all potential paying customers... and not only today. ... and that other participating venues may have run out of things or not had space to accommodate everyone - but simply apologised, remained friendly, offered alternatives, and kept the goodwill of people enough that they would want to return (or would make a point of returning and supporting them). Some manners would have gone a long way today. We will certainly make a point of not returning, and advise our friends to do the same. Whatever the quality of their product, it's unlikely to be worth the treatment you'll get for attempting to give them your custom.Interesting that previous reviewers have had the same experience - so we can't take it as a once off or put it down to the stress of the food festival.

Went for the wine tasting, which was well worth £25 (have been to some really bad ones before that cost similar) then sat in afterwards for a few drinks. Really nice and unusual wines for sale by the glass. They mange to get right what a number of chains (like Vagabond) get wrong (i.e. by selling excellent wine and crap Tesco bread and cheese. All food in the Wine Court is simple but carefully sourced). Lovely courtyard and interior. Perfect for a mid-week drink.

I was left with a bitter taste in my mouth after visiting the wine parlour. On a quiet Sunday afternoon I went there with a friend to have a glass of wine (which at the time we both agreed was overpriced). After leaving I realised I had dropped my beloved 2012 Olympic Edition Oyster card (with £50 credit) so returned the following day to ask if it had been handed in. The barman who had served us was on shift and remembered I had dropped my oyster, and said he had kept it safe in the till under the cash register. However, when he went to look for it it was missing, so he called the owner. Her response was frankly unacceptable: I was told the cleaner had thrown away my Oyster card (when do cleaners have access to the inside of the till?!) and that they bore no responsibility for this. Her response was, in my mind, disappointing: it's one thing if a member of the public picks up something, but quite another if a member of staff pilfers lost property from the till. However, when I tried to ask more questions about what had happened to my oyster, her response got more hostile, so I just left. Looking back I should have stayed and challenged what some would describe as theft, but a rainy night left me feeling rather British and non-confrontational.Next time I'll be braver- but it certainly won't be during a visit to the wine parlour...

Granted, the Wine Parlour DOES serve top quality fare, but even the most discerning foodie would be put out at the patron's condescension. A little friendly hospitality would go a long way here. Brixton is not a natural home for snobbery and with brilliant and bountiful alternatives available a short stroll away in the market, the Wine Parlour may want to brush up on some fundamental principles of polite service.
