The restaurant decoration and environment are 10/10, super cozy and uniquely decorated, nice rustic style. The staff was lovely. However, the food was not that great and overpriced… the steak was 6/10, a lot of fat and nerves, not enjoyable at all, the starter was £15 and we didn’t like it 4/10. They to a beautiful side, lobster mac and cheese, 10/10. If you’re looking for a good steak and worth the price this is not the place.

Being aware of the Wild Boars good reputation historically , we were very disappointed. The main meal steak was quite good and well cooked , but it came with corn on the cob and there was no substitute available . The sides dishes were the most disappointing , offering a limited choice of vegetables and all expensive in relation to portion size , especially the mash gravy and sauces . The service was reasonable , but the whole meal was generally underwhelming and very expensive for a local pub which describes the experience as fine dining.

Food was excellent but after asking for mustard 3 times and waiting Iver 10 minutes my patience expired. The waitress left and seemingly had time to take orders yet had me asking repeatedly for a simple condiment. They then had the cheek to charge 10% service charge! All the staff were clearly not interested in serving anyone but the hotel guests. Very disappointing. I was hoping I'd found a gem, I most certainly have not

Beautiful dining room, good staff and service. Sadly, although the chef uses good local ingredients the dishes are not as good as anticipated. The flavours are not there. Nice piece of pigeon breast smothered in some sort of fairly tasteless goo and served with quinoa. Wierd. Lovely venison served with good celeriac dauphinoise but the other accompaniments underwhelming. Could do with some berries as a complement. Not up to par for fine dining.

Just returned from a fabulous couple of days at this wonderful hotel. Food was excellent and the staff fantastic. Special mention to Natalia on breakfast duty who could not do enough to welcome you. Customer service at its best. We stayed in the standard family room and it was beautiful. Very clean and nicely decorated and had a lovely terrace. Food in the restaurant was truly outstanding. I enjoyed the smoked salmon and smoked fillet steak - truly delicious. Only slight criticism was the lack of hooks / storage in out room . Just a couple of extra ones on the doors and a drawer in the wardrobe would have made all the difference. Shower also a bit temperamental running hot then cold but just minor things . Overall this place was fabulous- we loved it . Keep up the good work Wild Boar - you are doing a great job !

This was my first visit to The Wild Boar and was also my last. The worst experience I have ever had dinning out. I have had a nut allergy for 20+ years and within the last year I’ve been following a gluten free diet because of stomach issues. For my wedding anniversary my parents decided to treat myself and my partner to Sunday lunch. A week prior to our reservation my mum spoke to a member of staff about my allergies and was assured that this wouldn’t be a problem and that they would be able to facilitate my needs. We were all really looking forward to our afternoon out. • However, on arrival we were ignored by who appeared to be the member of staff in charge. Another member of the team ended up showing us to our seats and taking our drink orders. Not the best start! • We mentioned my allergies on arrival but I was then given the regular menu. I had to then ask what the options were for my allergies. We had to ask two members of staff to get this information. It turned out there was only one option for GF and there was one nut dish marked on the menu. • When my soup arrived it had nuts sprinkled all over the top. Not stated on the menu! Very dangerous! Not impressed! I was so upset I ended up crying! It just felt as though the staff didn’t care and that I was an inconvenience for having allergies. One female member of staff did come over and ask if I was okay. Which was nice of her. • I was then told it was unsafe of me to eat in their restaurant and that they would have to make me a salad somewhere else in the building. Ridiculous! I didn’t even ask or want a salad. I eat enough of them at home. I was ready for a yummy Sunday lunch to celebrate my wedding anniversary. • To cut a long story short the member of staff who appeared to be in a leadership position was rude, he tried to blame us for not notifying them about my allergies. When he was proved wrong he blamed other members of his team, he repeatedly over talked me when I was explaining I had never experienced this problem before and he went on to tell me that other restaurants are lying to me when they say the food I am eating is nut free. I will only find out when I eat something containing nuts and have a reaction. Incredibly unprofessional! • We were all so frustrated at how our afternoon had turned out we decided to leave after the starters. We ended up not having to pay for our food and drinks. However, this didn’t make us feel any better. The Wild Boar restaurant/reception staff need to improve their communication skills, knowledge of allergies and how to accommodate people who suffer with them. I was made to feel that it was my fault that I have allergies and that I was putting them at a disadvantage for choosing to have my Sunday lunch at The Wild Boar.

My partner and I had meal in the restaurant here on eve of 04 Jan and were really disappointed. When sat at the table we were asked if we wanted drinks. My partner asked for more info about the house IPA. Our waitress said she didn’t know anything about it, only that it was brewed onsite and if he wanted to go and see the brewery he could. He then asked if he could try some, to be told that he wouldneed to go to the bar himself and ask for a sample ! We both found this really bizarre and quite frankly just bad service. When it came to ordering food, we asked (a different server) if we would need to order sides to accompany the mains we ordered ( venison haunch and pork belly ). We were told no, the meals were quite large. When our food came we immediately realised that we should have ordered something else to share. I wouldn’t say the portions were small, but definitely could have done with a little something extra. The food itself was nice, however we both thought that it was very overpriced. There was nothing standout about it that we felt warranted the price tag, particularly as we felt that we hadn’t received great service either.

Extended family of 8 booked for what turned out to be a quiet Saturday night.Welcome, kitchen and ambience appeared to meet price point. Starters and mains fell well below expectations at price point.“ spiced chicken@ £18.50” presented as KFC, but we couldn’t find even 1 herb or spice in the battering. Served with SP fries ( pretty tasty) and a slaw which was insipid. You would be disappointed with this being served anywhere but weatherspoons. Steaks are fine but not special and not worth £32Pies were good and only thing that met the price point (£16) Overall, I’d sum this place up as a good pub that has got over ambitious with tourist pricing but doesn’t retain staff or standards anywhere near high enough. With so much competition in the vicinity I’d suggest the management check they are delivering on their expectations.

Me and my girlfriend came for afternoon tea for her 21st birthday. I have a nut allergy that's one of the reasons we wanted to try the alternate afternoon tea and to be honest it was disappointing. It says you get a "choice" of ales on the beer bat but actually you don't they just give you three different ales. the food itself wasn't great. The mini fish and chips were cold, the mini duck and chili sausages weren't nice (I understand that's my opinion) It says on the website pigs in blankets and there wasn't any? the cakes again because of my allergy got swapped from the brownie to another scone and I couldn't eat the toffee cupcake but was left on my dessert dish? All in all for the price it wasn't worth it and was disappointed to have wasted my girlfriends 21st birthday lunch here. I wouldn't recommend.

Booked a table as a birthday treat for my wife, Staff were lovely and welcoming on arrival, purchased drinks at the bar and were shown through to the restaurant. Restaurant layout, style and ambience was just what i had hoped for. we ordered starters and mains with no problem. As it got busier staff became less attentive, only to be expected to a certain extent i suppose, the food was served quickly and was in all fairness fantastic, this is not a cheap night out for two by any means but the quality of the food was worth every penny, We completed our main and decided to stay and have a dessert and coffee to finish a lovely birthday evening off, but from this point on things just went downhill, we had completed our main course, and waited for the table to be cleared and asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu, we waited, we waited, serving staff kept coming past the tables walking a loop around the restaurant, gave our table a glance but left us to wait, and wait, and wait, another walk past and glance, but no attention paid to the plates we had now stacked up on the table to show their was no doubt we had finished, we waited and waited until 25 min had gone by since finishing our main course, and we gave up, couldn't even get some one to come over and ask for the bill, so we left our table, went back to the bar and asked for the bill, paid up and left feeling thoroughly disappointed and let down in the way we had to cut the evening short and basically give up on being served.

This is our 3rd/4th visit to the Wild Boar for afternoon tea and the most disappointing one yet. There seemed to be a few obvious changes since our last visit, the 'mini sliders' seemed to be a small brioche bun filled with a far too big rubbery over processed burger (It was that big we cut them in half) which wasn't enjoyable, chicken wings which personally I can't stand and my husbands feedback was 'they weren't worth the effort' and finally the cakes have seriously decreased in size - the brownie was no bigger than my little finger - which is a massive shame as it was the best bit! Fish was lovely but unfortunately the two pots of chips (between 3) we were served were definitely the scraps from the bottom of the bag, all small scrappy and majority over cooked - on reflection we should have asked for these to be changed so that is sort of our fault (although I wouldn't have served them up in the first place).

The setting and dining room is lovely. We visited for the first time to celebrate a family occasion - the afternoon tea was presented really well on tiered wooden stands. However, the quality of the food was really poor and didn’t deliver to reflect presentation or location. The burgers were chewy and over processed, the fish and chips soggy and the crackling so salty that it was inedible. The scones with clotted cream were nice enough but in general the afternoon tea was a big disappointment.

Just visited today with two friends for a belated treat to celebrate our birthdays. We had the 'Alternative Afternoon Tea' which was truly delicious and a refreshing change from the traditional offerings of sandwiches and cakes. The food was beautifully presented and a wonderful mixture of flavours. The chicken wings were just smoky enough to be tasty without being overpowering. The mini fish and chips were crispy and light and served with a punchy Tartare sauce. Smoked sausages and Wild Boar sliders equally scrumptious. Light and fluffy scones served with clotted cream and damson jam set the bar high for the sweet selection but the chocolate brownie and the sticky toffee cupcakes rose to the challenge and exceeded my expectations. Service was attentive without being intrusive and the surroundings were beautiful. i would highly recommend a visit and will definitely return.

Alternative afternoon tea at ‘The Wild Boar’ for 4 people..... WelI I really don’t know where to start. It was awful, over priced and actually over rated if you ask me. We expected homemade chips and they were frozen and served cold together with one fish goujon which was cold! The cheese savoury sandwich on a brioche bun was like spread out of a tub from a supermarket. The sliders were very boring and bland, the pigs in blankets were under cooked, the suppose called scotch egg well I didn't even trybecause they looked over cooked and days old with no sign off egg, the scones obviously days old we couldn't get a knife through them and the presentation of the other two cakes were not appealing and very boring! Definitely not value for money at £24 per person. We had to ask for our coffee part way through eating. When we went to pay, the gentleman on the bar didn’t ask us if we enjoyed the food. We made our complaint to the duty manager! Had numerous afternoon teas in the Lake District and this is probably the worst. p.s All so ordered two children's meals and one was chicken which was like a piece of rubber!

Wow! Food is amazing here! They have their own smokehouse in the hotel grounds and it makes all the difference! We started with pork ribs & chicken wings which were sizeable & stunning! Then for main meal my other half had the 10oz Hanger steak and chips and I had the roast vegetable & quinoa burger. Seems crazy to have a vegetarian option when the meat on offer is so good but I fancied a change. So glad I did. The chefs give just as much attention to the veggie option. So much food on one plate, it's unreal and it tastes spook good. Staff are really friendly and can't do enough. Service was perfect and ambience is lovely. The kitchen is open so you can even see your food being prepared if you like. The only downside was that the first two courses were so big that not only could I not finish the main (even though I really wanted to) but I didn't get to sample their famous sticky toffee pudding ! Let myself down there....

The ambiance is Old English pub with open fires, original beams and polished slate floors. The bar area has well used leather chairs that are so comfy and fit beautifully in the setting. The staff are well trained, so friendly, so helpful. The food is amazing. The tastes are robust and as described, rich and cooked to perfection. The choice is varied and includes of course pork, but smoked food, sea food and game and locally grown meat. It is cooked fresh and served beautifully. I couldn't recommend it highly enough. Definitely one to repeat!!

Had a lovely weekend at the Wild Boar Inn, the Hotel and staff could not do enough for us and our pooch Monty. From leaving dog water bowls and dog towels in your room, to offering sausages to Monty when we had our breakfast. Fabulous walks around the hotel and only 3 miles into Windermere. The restaurant serves a good selection of locally sourced produce and the staff are so welcoming..

My husband and I would definitely return to the Wild Boar for another leisure weekend. The bedrooms are very comfortable, and the menu was excellent both for breakfast and dinner. In particular the staff were first rate throughout - helpful and informative. We were particularly impressed with the attention by the trainee waiters at dinner - Very friendly and attentive (but not too much!). A very helpful idea to have them wear 'trainee' name tags on too,

Thos was our first Christmas family vaccination, and we had a fantastic time. The hotel location was great with a variety of walks and places of interest right on the doorstep..The hotel was very charming and comfortable.. The staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel at ease. The festive menu for our 4 day break was 5 star with plenty of choice and variety. The manager made himself both known and available to all the guests, and took time to introduce and discuss the planned activities on offer.

Cosy atmosphere with log fires and wooden decor. I would always recommend pre-booking for evening meals as the place is always very busy. Nice menu with something for everyone. We always like to get the Deli Board as a starter for 2 people (A selection of air-dried ham, homemade pastrami, smoked ox tongue, salami, hand-carved smoked baked ham, our house-cured Loch Duart smoked salmon, smoked cheddar, pickled egg, chutney, bread and butter). For mains the burger and steaks are lovely, especially served with the homemade onion rings. To be honest for the price i think a sauce should be included. The Steakhouse do need a better system with the different steaks as a rare and a medium were mixed up and we only realised half way through.

Decided to visit today after reading good reviews in Cumbria Life mag. Ordered Char Grllled Chicken with Pancetta and Mayo, really disappointed I received a cold ciabatta sandwich filled with chicken and mayonnaise (not char grilled, no pancetta). Tastie but not what I was expecting.

Stopped off about 2pm for lunch on a Saturday knowing they serve an 'All Day Menu'. What a mistake!! Walked into the bar and ordered drinks and asked about food. The barman, not the happiest person i've ever met, just asked 2 questions; Have you booked?, No, Are you sataying here?, No. Oh, we have problems in the kitchen short staffed and very busy, I'll have to ask. To add insult to injury he served another couple before asking if food was available, and because they were guests got served food! Finally he went to the kitchen, came back and said we couldn't have any food. That was it, no further explanations at all. We had to sit there and finish our drinks with no food. Can't think why the kitchen was so busy as I walked around the resturants and there was no one eating. Lots of laughter and chatting coming rrom the kitchen though.

As a local to the area its a great shame to see a once good restaurant that me and my family & friends visited regularly go so badly downhill. As part of our friends birthday weekend several of our school friends had flown from all over for a reunion. As part of this we decided to visit The Wild Boar for lunch as we had visited many times with our friends in the past when they studied in the area. In the past we had loved the attention to detail, great steaks and friendly service.

The restaurant décor is lovely with its period features, including a very nice bar area, and the staff were very attentive and friendly. Complimentary bread is brought once you are seated, and we ordered a portion of the pigs in blankets, which were very good. For main, we both had the 10oz fillet steak which was extremely good, with sides of mashed potato and cauliflower cheese, and peppercorn and gravy sauces (all also very good). Note: It is not stated anywhere, but it seems that the steaks come with a side at no extra cost, which was a nice surprise when the bill arrived. The wine list was good, with a good selection to choose from (bottles offered in price bands). As we were rather full, we had to wait a little bit until we were ready for pudding, which the staff were more than happy with and simply brought us the menu and left us until we were ready, they were not over keen to sell us puddings quickly, which was another plus. My fiancé had the chocolate delice which was huge and I had the cheese board - the most disappointing part of the meal. I was given a very healthy portion of cheddar, but only a wafer thin slice of brie and two very thin slices of the goats cheese. The was accompanied by a chilli jam, which I'm not sure wasn't just a regular breakfast berry jam, as it was very sweet and had no taste of chilli. That being said, the overall meal was very enjoyable and really not badly priced at all (used to London prices so that may be a factor).

I visited the restaurant with my wife on our wedding anniversary after being highly recommended by friends. The food was pricey but very good. This is where to positives end. The food was let down hugely by the front of house staff and the poor service. We arrived at 19.45 on a Tuesday night and our food didn’t arrive until almost 21.30 despite the restaurant not being completely full. The staff were slow at taking our order and didn’t seem to know what they were doing. We spoke to hotel guests and they said the service was painfully slow the night before. It’s such a shame, I really hope the management take on board these reviews and do something about it before its to late.

We visited The Wild Boar for afternoon tea on Friday, we were a party of six so booked well in advance. I had been for the afternoon tea previously and was really impressed. I was less impressed this time though, we were given the same amount of sauces and jam/cream for 6 of us as we had been last time I went as a two. When we tried to asked for more there were no waiters/waitresses in the area to ask. This was the same with drinks, we would have liked a top up of hot water and some more milk but there was nobody to ask. In the end my mum went through to the bar. We felt that the service was a bit lacking. The food was lovely, well presented and we came out stuffed. There wasn’t a great deal of room on the table though so maybe when there is a large party with a huge stand of food some consideration could be given to clearing the table first. The pimms we had as our accompanying drink was really refreshing, we could have sat and drink pimms all day!

Appalling staff attitude. To challenge a customer for using the toilet before ordering a drink. Saying the customer was ill mannered for not asking permission. Then imply the customer is a liar when explaining her husband was outside with the dogs ready to order drinks as had been the case for the 3 previous days of our holiday. Told to get lost (or words to that effect) as the customer had "done what she came in for". Utterly appalling, rude and verbally aggressive. Not how someone in hospitality should behave.
