Kings Arms Hotel in South Lakeland

Appalling staff attitude. To challenge a customer for using the toilet before ordering a drink. Saying the customer was ill mannered for not asking permission. Then imply the customer is a liar when explaining her husband was outside with the dogs ready to order drinks as had been the case for the 3 previous days of our holiday. Told to get lost (or words to that effect) as the customer had "done what she came in for". Utterly appalling, rude and verbally aggressive. Not how someone in hospitality should behave.

My review is just for having drinks at the Kings Arms. On arrival, the host was very pleasant but only 2 of the 4 cask ale pumps had beer available. Also, the merlot that my wife had was very poor. A lady was also busy cleaning the tables throughout our visit, which was very good. Based on our drink experience, 3 stars is the maximum that I could give.

Nipped for a drink because we liked the look of this old pub. The staff and chef were very nice and so were the drink. However the food was mediocre to say the least. We eat up because we were hungry but doubt I’d try food again, sorry!

We like this pub especially the fire. BUT one suggestion dim the light just a little to make it cosy. It's too bright.

Popped in For drinks one night and looked at the menu… right up our street so we booked for a Friday night. We both had starters and both had the cheese pie which was delicious! Staff were friendly enough and the place was clean. Would recommend a meal here, we will return for sure.

Called in for food after hiking Ingleborough and both ordered the Sunday Roast, which were disappointing. The meat itself was nice but the potatoes, vegetables and stuffing were hard, and the Yorkshire pudding was inedible as it was so burnt. Looked at the other tables and it seemed other people had left theirs too. We did tell the waitress but I don’t think she was too bothered. The pub itself seemed nice.

Great food with great owners made us feel. At home

Snarled at by the bar staff immediately upon entrance when entering the bar at 4pm due to a buggy and two children. Ambience of a bad Wetherspoons without any of the economical benefit. We are local and won't go back till new management are in.. Which won't be long.

Can't comment on the rooms as I've never stayed here. However the food is OK for a Saturday night maybe might be my choice, Sunday lunch is ok.

Wow. Friendly and welcoming. Lovely seating area. Food was good value and enjoyable. I had the steak pudding. So yummy. Friends had equally lovely meals from scampi to burger and cheese and onion pie. We noticed as we were leaving the village that my banking ap showed we’d been charged £5.50 rather than £55. We made a hasty return. The couple were so lovely that we’d come back to pay the full amount. They certainly deserved full payment !

Amazing Sunday lunch and great value. The best we have had for a long time. 2 Sunday roasts, everything was cooked too perfection, thick slices of beef and turkey with plenty of it, extra cauliflower cheese and a bottle of lovely Malbec all for around £50. Go, you won’t be disappointed.

We had heard good things and the reviews on here were encouraging, but frankly we found it very ordinary. Okay food. Okay service. Good environment and atmosphere. Good beer. Dog friendly. Decent prices. But we have had better food for similar prices. It was fine, and if it's convenient / available then it is likely to be okay. But we wouldn't go out of our way to rush back.

The worst meal I have ever had . The food was atrocious. The gammon was overcooked, tough and very salty. Egg overcooked. Chips (frozen). Cold. When a menu says pineapple I expect a pineapple ring not a burnt portion of pineapple rind. They might do a good Sunday roast but my experience was awful. Oh and everybody in our party also thought the food was awful.

This hotel is a great find in the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale. Dinner with friends in a super dining room. Sea food, steaks and grills. super staff

Really lovely meal out on a quiet Sunday evening. Food really good and value for money. Staff very friendly and helpful. Dog friendly too! We will be back.

Excellent pub food and service! We walked in and were quickly found a table away from others (we have a two year old) who was hungry. George sorted us out quickly and we enjoyed a lovely family meal. My parents are very fussy but even they said it was a delicious meal and you couldn’t fault the service. Reasonably priced too. Thank you George and team! Will return!

We called in for a drink and really liked the atmosphere so called in for a meal the following night. The service was really good . The young gent who served us was excellent . Really attentive. The food was proper home cooked delicious pub food. We shared the home made pitta board to start and they were perfect. The mains were equally as amazing. Best meal I've had in a pub in a long time. No ridiculous prices either . Great people and people. Never change.

Serves tasty and generous portions of good pub grub. Also visited for an evening meal which was just as good.

Food was good but the beer terrible.I had to return beer to the barman who was inexperienced and sadly lacked training so couldn't tell a good pint from a bad one. Would not visit again.

Our first visit to the newly opened Kings Arms and it certainly did not disappoint. Both meals were of excellent quality and economically priced. Service was prompt and friendly. Thank you. We will be back.

Was staying in the b&b next-door and had arrived in the evening so decided to drop in for something to eat. Asked for a cocktail that was on the menu, but was told that the barman was too busy to make it! There were only 5 other people in the bar. Ordered food, steak and chips, hunters chicken and a ham and chicken pie. When the food arrived the steak was OK, and the hunters chicken was passable. The chicken and ham pie was reheated in the microwave and was more full of ham fat rather than meat. To make the evening more fun we had to deal with tiny flies while trying to eat.

Stayed in Kirkby for five nights and had a few meals in here George and Jackie were lovely very welcoming pub and friendly staff meals were excellent and great value with big portions.
