This restaurant is a little gem, right in the heart of Grasmere village. The food is cooked fresh to order and delicious. We were lucky enough to have the whole restaurant to ourselves by the end of our meal. Would highly recommend to everyone. Very welcoming.

Underrated. We stayed in Grasmere awhile and have tried many of the top rated restaurants. On our last night we tried this place. Surprised how good it was. Party of six and all meals were excellent. Service very good too.

Lovely meal here on Wednesday night. The Beef Stroganoff and Sweet and Sour King Prawns were delicious, freshly cooked. Very friendly service and the chef came out for a chat. Can't fault it, really surprised at the negative reviews on here. This was my second visit, excellent meal.on both occasions.

Food is nice, but not particularly great value for money. Atmosphere used to be great, but last time I visited it had gone downhill, with several of large storage containers and barrels of cooking oil left in corners of the restaurant. Service was fine from my own experience, but I noticed the waitress turned away some people who had asked for a table and then was quite rude about it suggesting “It’s ridiculous for them to just turn up and expect to get a table” - to be honest the restaurant was quite quiet so I’m unsure what the fuss was about.

Hmmm, where to start. There was no one else in the restaurant, the service was ok and certainly not attentive, the food was microwaved, and the ambience was non existent without any other diners and no background music. I have no idea why Goody Blakes has received any good reviews. Everything the poor reviews say was our experience too. We kept a sense of humour though and chalked it up to experience.

After reading the menu we were excited to come to this restaurant as it had so much choice and a bit of everything for everyone in our party. If I could give this 0 stars I would, we sat down in what was a very awkward atmosphere. The place was completely empty when we arrived and were coldly greeted and sat at our table, at first we put this down to a quirk and were given drinks menus. The boys asked for a lager beer, however were presented with limited options - they chose 2 different ones and were served them. We ordered a bottle of Rioja red wine which was £27 and were horrified to to be served Campo Viejo which we both regularly drink at home and retails for around £8 per bottle. We were absolutely furious at this point but as it was uncorked we decided to just drink it and put it down to being a small restaurant in Grasmere. We all ordered starters which were mediocre and I am almost positive my mussels came out of a pre-prepared packet you get in the shops and some of them were rank to the point I decided to stop eating them to avoid any food poisoning. Whilst we were waiting for our mains one of the chefs actually went to a chest freezer in the corner of the restaurant hidden by wooden dividers to retrieve vegetables from again, I don’t expect every piece of my meal to be freshly prepared however this was just starting to take the mick. The mains were okay, most of it was from frozen and prepackaged food which was incredibly disappointing considering the cost of the meal which totalled to £150. Would not recommend as they are clearly taking advantage of guests on holiday by buying in bulk frozen food and cheap wine off the shelves to sell at over triple the price and the atmosphere, service and staff were all very weird - if I could give 0 stars I would.

The people seemed genuinely lovely, but the food on the other hand well, and i’m sorry for this bad review, but we genuinely left angry and sad at ourselves for paying at all. YOU ARE REALLY NOT A CHEF! £35 for 2 plates of frozen ravioli drowning in a store brought sauce, with raw pieces of floating peppers and carrots? Along with frozen oven chips and budget garlic bread. Everything clearly pre made and store brought. It was enough to make any real cook cry. We were so excited by the look of the menu and the place has so much potential, but I have never felt more scammed after eating a meal. I really hope you can turn this around and have some culinary lessons, or you really need to take a look at your food and appreciate how awful it is. There are plenty of better places in Grasmere to eat. I just wish we told you this in person, but didn’t want to hurt any feelings, but future customers need to he warned. :(

Me and my partner visit grasmere every year and we always visit restaurants in the nearby area. No where has left such an impression on us, though. The interior (and exterior) is very quirky and homely - which is the vibe I absolutely love when dining; as it creates a comforting atmosphere. The waitress, Linda, kept making us laugh and was overall extremely friendly and attentive. I had the cheesy pasta special, and my partner had the stir fried king prawns with sweet chilli, which we both loved! My partner kept commenting on how “perfectly cooked” the prawns were and “fresh” they tasted. He comes from a culture where food is very important so it’s lovely to have seen him enjoy every last bite of his meal! Massive thanks to Clarke, the chef, for two lovely meals!! We came here pretty late but did not feel rushed at all. Massive thank you again to Linda and Clarke! We will absolutely be back on our next yearly visit and we are looking forward to it already! X

Came in without a booking out of season. No need to worry, lovely realxed atmosphere. The food was excellent from a full menu (which is usual for out of season here). I had the chicken Kung Po while my better half had lamb that melted in the mouth. The staff were attentive and friendly (but there were only a few of us in there which probably makes things a little earlier. We had local ales to drink that were reasonably priced and well chilled. The only, minor, negative is that they didn't have any draught beer/lager on tap but that wasn't a big thing for us. We'll certainly go back. Dave & Karen.

Extraordinary probably sums this place up perfectly. It doesn’t know what it is, it has cafe tables with paper napkins alongside bizarrely high prices for some items on the menu. We were seated by the ice cream freezer and a redundant water cooler. There were a number of odd decorations that had no theme or purpose and a bamboo screen hid a pile of junk. There was limited non alcoholic drinks available (no sparkling water or coke). Having said that what we had to eat was tasty and we enjoyed it. If the owners skipped the junk, redecorated, reduced the number of items on the menu, adjusted prices to suit the simple furniture style and focused on what they do well they’d be really successful.

Was slightly wary of eating here because of some of the reviews and the fact that it was empty when we arrived. Our fears were groundless. The food was freshly cooked to order and was delicious. Don't believe the negative reviews, they're not related to the experience we had.

This restaurant is tired and on the night we were there empty. The staff were friendly and efficient but the food was very poor , in fact the worst I have eaten in quite some while. My wife’s slow cooked beef in red wine certainly was not slow cooked and had never seen any red wine but was tough and unpleasant. The Thai fish cakes were anything but Thai being made with mostly potatoes ( I have lived in Thailand!) , the menu is too long and a jumble of different dishes and needs a complete overhaul. Time to call Gordon Ramsay.

Booked this restaurant a couple of months in advance for a Sunday evening. Received email confirmation from manager. Arrived on the said Sunday to find the closed sign on the door.saw someone inside, turned out he was the manager who denied having any bookings for that evening and showed me what appeared to be the reservation book showing no bookings for that night. Showed him the booking confirmation on my phone which had been sent by him, he gave a somewhat half hearted apology and offered a free meal if we returned. We’d already booked for the next two nights so didn’t take up his offer. I double checked other two restaurants to make sure they had our booking, which they had.

As a rule I don’t use trip advisor to write negative reviews. But I feel nobody should have to be subjected to such poor quality food clearly tasted like it was definitely not home made. After specifically requesting a dish to exclude a particular ingredient a member of our party was unable to eat their food as the ingredient was evident in the dish. This allergen meant that we had to contact the restaurant and complain and ask for that dish to be refunded, as if the member of our party had consumed it, their health may have been compromised Completely unacceptable in this day and age

The simple cafe style hides some seriously good cooking. We ate twice during our week's stay. Both meals were excellent. Generous portions meant that we never got as far as desserts. To say that the style is simple home cooking is doing it a disservice, it is more than that. Steaks were superb as was the bacon and mushroom starter. Much better value than som other establishments in Grasmere.

Myself and my partner were about to begin our 2 hour drive home and fancied a bite to eat beforehand. Grasmere seemed to be lacking in places to eat, and the few there were had no availability. Then we found Goody Blake’s. On arrival, we weren’t sure what to expect but were greeted by a very friendly female staff member who gave us a table despite saying they were ‘fully booked’. So far, so good. We ordered drinks, my partner asked for a Coca Cola and myself a sparkling water for which I requested a slice of lemon, the waitress said this would not be a problem. When the drinks arrived, there was no slice of lemon and we were served Coke Zero in a can, however, we thought this was not a big issue so decided to ignore the mistake. When given the menu I was astonished. Firstly at the sheer amount of food on offer, had I gone with my better judgment I would’ve known that this was not a good sign. It was the most bizarre mix of cuisines that were way above the capabilities of the chef not to mention very dated. From fillet steak to curry, skillets to fishcakes, it was hard to tell where they were going with it. The second thing that astonished me was the price point. £20 for just a main course is far too expensive unless you are serving fine dining level meals. Unfortunately the next restaurant would have been miles away and no guarantee of a table so we had to commit to eating here before hitting the road. The chef came out and recommended the curry, at the time I presumed he was proud of this dish but now I realise it was for his convenience. The rice served with the curry was 100% microwaved, the taste, smell and texture gave that much away. The curry was of a watery consistency and was completely bland and what I suspect was mainly out of a jar. I had chicken which had been badly butchered and possibly microwaved, strange shaped chunks of meat and texture was odd. My partner had prawns which were clearly frozen in the same watery, tasteless broth and absolutely not worth almost £20. The veg in the curry was also peculiar, it was the sort of mixed veg I would deem as ‘scraps’ when you are using everything up in the fridge at the end of the week. I mean, I’ve never seen mushrooms in a prawn curry before. It occurred to me that although the menu is extensive, the chef has cut corners to ensure minimum amount of prep is needed and that the vegetables used for the curry were the same vegetables that would be served with the skillet. In Goody Blake’s defence, we did receive a check back from our server however I felt too sorry for her to say anything, she seemed to be the only person keeping the ship going and it wasn’t her fault the food was bad. As mentioned earlier, we were told the restaurant was fully booked and they squeezed us in, the restaurant was near to empty the entire time we were there and I overheard them telling other walk in customers the same as they had told us, which I assume might be an attempt at making the place seem more popular. When it came to paying, I went in to ask for the bill. On the bar, I could see the bookings list of which was very far from being fully booked, it seemed the staff just could not handle more than a few tables which was concerning since there were probably the same amount of staff working there as customers sat in the restaurant. I asked for the bill and patiently waited for 10 minutes whilst the waitress totalled up our order on a till machine older than my grandparents. The atmosphere was awkward. Once the rip-off bill was paid I headed for the toilet before we set off. This was the dirtiest toilet I had ever seen, and I’ve used portaloos at festivals. It suggested to me that they had not been cleaned in a very long time, which every front of house staff member should have as a routine job every open and close as well as regular checks throughout the shift. I can only wonder what the standards are of the areas that the customers don’t see. There is no excuse for uncleanliness, especially given they weren’t very busy. I had to close my eyes and run out as soon as I could. Overall the experience left myself, a hospitality professional, and my partner who is a fine dining chef insulted. Goody Blake’s is a disappointment to the industry. A few constructive criticisms:• Please condense your menu, choose a particular unique selling point and concentrate on that• Update your decor and menus - the place may have been there for years, but times have changed• Start buying from local suppliers and cook things fresh to order, avoid the freezer and bin your microwave • More reasonable pricing, then you may get more custom that will make up for the loss of profit on price point• Keep on top of hygiene, get the toilet cleaned and give the place a spruce up• Keep the lady with the brunette bob, she’s great! If you aren’t willing to bring the restaurant up to standard then I would suggest humbling yourself and charging what is actually reasonable for the quality of food you are serving. We won’t be returning here on our next trip to the lakes, that’s one thing for certain. I apologise for the negative review but the place really is in need of some help, if Ramsay does another series of Kitchen Nightmares, we shall put you forward for it. All the best.

Came to this little restaurant tonight and I have to say some reviews made me a little anxious! However the night was lovely, the staff so welcoming, dog friendly, the food choice was lengthy, and the food was absolutely delicious!! Hats off to the chef! Yes the interior could do with abit of a revamp but it reminded me and my husband of the little taverns in spain & Italy just quaint & cosy. Highly recommend visiting

The place is ok, it seems more like a daytime place than an evening restaurant. The staff were all friendly and nice and I really don’t want to knock an independent business in any way, but they have to make the customers feel like they can enjoy a meal. We’re not just there for sustenance and to move on, we were there for an evening dinner. We arrived at 8pm with a booking, thinking they closed at 9:30, by 9pm the staff were cleaning up, effectively putting their coats on and waiting for us to leave, we ended up feeling like we’d been rushed and pushed out. 2 of our party had to leave glasses of wine on the table as we had been given the bill without asking and shutters were being pulled down. The food was good, the hospitality lacking!

We stumbled in due to struggling to get a booking at other venues. We were treated really well by the manager who was the one and only member of staff on duty. He was so slick tending to everyone’s needs effectively and efficiently - nobody was kept waiting at any one time. The food was high quality, all four of us were very impressed. The chef is quality! Would definitely recommend.

The food at Number Nine is amazing. I had the beef fillet which was cooked to perfection and the Brussels sprouts were the best sprouts I have ever tasted.

Food and setting great. But it was the service that made the difference. Special mention to Laura who was very accommodating, attentive and friendly.
