Early evening so not busy. Ordered two burger meals. Chips fine, meat in the burger tasteless! Stale burger buns. No coleslaw, sorry we’ve run out?? Cook made some for us (bless her). Lager fine. Decor very good. But it’s still Wigan!!!!! If that’s the best Wigan can do!!! Might be a while.

First time in here with my friend.were still here and we couldn't wait to say. YAY! at last a clean pub pleasant helpful staff (lady) food fabulous and a great bargain AND it was hot! You just don't find this easily anymore. From near and far . At Last . Well done sharon and Kath

Pie and mash. Arrived burnt with chips and uncooked peas. Burger bun was stale. Beers were good friendly staff and lovely sunny day.

Shocking at best.. starter/main meal arrived at the same time. ?? Staff are/were clueless . no lagers available . had to go to the bar to be served .. Sunday roast didn't say what was on the plate , so ordered pigs in blankets.. already on the plate . so spent extra , no problem financially . ordered a bottle of wine , glasses please ..?? Wouldn't go 'free ' . Minus 10

First time visiting for some lunch. Pub is looking great, we sat outside in one of the booths for our food and drink. Staff were friendly and polite, food was hot and fresh. Good place to go for some decent pub grub, will be visiting again.

Visited this bar two weeks ago for the 1st time had the light lunch and a drink, very nice Visited again on Friday 19th ordered lunch Ciabata and fries, chicken wrap, not very busy waited 45 minutes for food. When ordered we were give a table number block to place on table sat outside of entrance door, staff came out with food and walked past us 3 times, had to shout and tell her it was ours. (Whats the point of the table block number) Quality of food not very good, On this occasion very disorganised, lack of staff, good job it wasn't busy or we probably have to wait hours for food

Beautifully renovated with lovely interiors. The staff are very polite. Enjoyed our food and drinks.

Didn't sit inside so haven't seen the new refurb. Sat outside as we had pets with us. They have done a lovely job to the seating area, plenty new tables and little booths, it's fab. Can't really comment on the food as we only had a portion of chips but they were very tasty. Would definitely recommend.

First visit to the Whitesmiths since it re-opened and were very happy with it. Lovely food and very friendly staff. Will definitely go again.

I visited today to pass some time. I ordered ciabata houlomi and fries which came with salad, and they were excellent. Also served with a very good coffee. The interior has been refurbished to a high standard. Easily the best in internal Wigan.

Breakfast was fantastic! And the beer garden looks ace! Definitely will be returning in the summer months

Music is noisy outside to the extent that people have to shout, which just makes it noisier. No real ale. Food average.

Not open at all, even accepted a reservation with confirmation email. At no point was we told this was shut

We booked a table for 6:30 pm today (Saturday), got there and it isn’t even open, was locked down like Forrest bank😂 we still received a booking confirmation and the number registered online is an ‘incorrect number’ looks like we’re going to Maccies🤣

My family, my partner and I came here for my birthday meal, and we all really enjoyed it. The servers were so friendly and welcoming. The food was really yummy and the atmosphere overall was so inviting. There was good music and the decor was so pretty!

Disappointingly basic food, first time I’ve ever had to chew chicken Caesar salad, feel sorry because looks like they’re struggling but cannot recommend

Very expensive staff poured a prosecco into a wine measuring cup, which made it very flat. I had to send it back totally flat

This place is EXCELLENT. I am a couple of weeks late leaving this but truly the gluten free food and just general operations of this place are top notch. Even sang karaoke with the staff. Such good food and company. Visit here, you won't regret it ☺️

Awful since the new owners have taken over. Don't waste your money! The Royal Oak is just across the road and it has amazing food and so many great vegan options! We were warned that food would take a while but didn't realise how long. Went on Saturday 7th January 2023 @ 7pm. 6 of us. We waited half an hour for our order to be taken, 40 minutes after that starters arrived and 40 minutes after that, mains arrived. My husband and I ordered the 'Vegan Burger' and one of our friends ordered the 'Vegetarian Burger'. The 'Vegan Burger' was described as 'Mushroom patty, with lettuce, tomato and red onion (with or without vegan cheese) served on a toasted bun with roast potatoes'. The 'Vegetarian Burger' was described similarly. Well, the burgers arrived and it was a mushroom on a bun! With cold, unseasoned and somehow wet potatoes. Why can't they serve a burger with chips like every other pub or restaurant that offers a vegan burger? I asked the waitress if the burgers were correct because the menu described a 'mushroom patty' not a mushroom on a bun. She advised that it was correct. Turns out The Whitesmiths have lied on the menu so please don't be fooled by them. I told them I can't justify paying £9.95 for a mushroom on a bun. How embarrassing that the 'chef' and owners thought that that is an acceptable thing to serve, expecially when lieing on the menu and tricking customers into thinking that they will get a patty, an actual burger. After I complained, they were quick to offer me and alternative meal and take the meal off the bill, which I reluctantly accepted as I didn't really want to wait any longer to eat. I was told it would only take 5 minutes for them to make me a vegan pizza instead (it took close to 20 minutes and the rest of my table had finished by the time my food arrived). The pizza arrived and although it matched the description on the menu, it was very poorly presented. The toppings were minimal and the base was either too thin or undercooked as it was sloppy in the middle. The chef took no care in presentation. Even slicing the olives would have made the pizza look so much better and more full but they were thrown on whole. Not really worth £10.95 but I didn't complain and I ate the pizza. It was OK but nowhere near as good as the one I made from scratch the night before and nowhere near as well presented. My husband and friend were also extremely disappointed with their mushroom on a bun and another friend paid £24.95 for 'The Whitesmiths Stacker Burger' - he couldn't eat the burger pattys as they were so overcooked, they were like bricks and he struggled to even cut them with a knife. On a slightly more positive note, the starters were nice enough but all served with salad that you buy in a bag from a supermarket. Would expect a restaurant to be able to chop up a lettuce and make a more appetising side salad. This would also be much cheaper for the restaurant so not sure why they opt for unappealing bags of supermarket salad. Awful experience. Why aren't The Whitesmiths using decent vegan alternatives like the previous owners and rival pubs/restaurants? Awful menu, badly cooked food and terribly presented. Food and drink are very good. I only visited at lunch time so there wasn't many people in. Log burner is a plus

Visted last night for food with some friends. Nice place and the staff were lovely, got quickly seated and served drinks. I ordered the veggie lasagne with a cheesy garlic bread which was delicious. Finished off with an expresso martini. Decent menu with reasonably priced food. No issues here. Will definitely be back.

Just had a most enjoyable Christmas lunch, and was very impressed.

Food was great, very tasty. Shame about the 20 min wait for drinks order along with slow service for our food order. Was in there for 2hrs and the restaurant wasn’t busy.

Had a lovely leisurely lunch here with friends. Relaxed atmosphere. Great service. Food was really good, all four of us enjoyed our meals. I had lasagne and it was delicious. Not had lasagne as good as this since in Rome several years ago, top notch. Friend had ribeye steak which she really enjoyed as did the ones who had fish and chips. Would definitely visit again.

We have visited the whitesmiths a few times but not since it has been taken over and under new management. Fab and friendly staff on arrival, which is always a must. Food: we had cheesy garlic to start, followed by a meaty pizza. We played I safe and don’t know why. I can safely safe it’s one of the best pizzas in Wigan we have had in a long time. We had two drinks and were also pleasantly surprised not to be ripped off for once when the bill came. Definitely will be visiting again

Visited the Whitesmith Arms for a family meal. Good variety of choice on the menu. We all enjoyed our food especially the Brie starter, the garlic bread and the steak pie. Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. We enjoyed finishing our meal with a cocktail too.

Had a meal here on Saturday 19th November. I have been here before and rated the food high. For the price I paid I expected everything that was on the menu. But it was served like slop! There was no consistency in serving my friend had nearly finished his burger and it wasn't even busy. I won't be eating here again.

Went on Monday evening and was confused why the restaurant was so big with so little customers… until our food arrived, steak looked like Ghandis flip flop chicken bites were burnt, burger bun was burnt, only decent thing was bruschetta. All in all for 3 after the meals were taken off it was still £70 and one guest only ordered a starter and my main was taken off. Never had a worse meal

We are four adults and a toddler. The male server (May be manager) asked if we would like to have drinks only or meals. We told him we would like to have lunch. And he just point us to the table just next to main entrance. At that moment, there was just one table of two adults and a kid having meal in the half way. So we have settled ourselves at the pointed table (a table for four people) and waiting the server taking us a toddler seat. When we were deciding what to eat for lunch (it’s after 13:00, should be a late lunch.), the lady had been asking what we would like to drink……. Like we must order drinks before we order food. I personally replied twice that we want to order food first. At the same time, I asked what is the meaning of two courses Sunday lunch 14.99 means. I was told except the 24.99£ main course, we could have it a main and a starter as a two course Sunday lunch. (To make it clear, I have taken steak and wings as example… while the lady said yes we could.) after we finalised what we would like to eat, we place the order with the male server (maybe the manager). And he said no except pizza and pasta with chicken / beef/ meat. Therefore, we order a rib eye, a sea beam, a fish and chips, a spaghetti busara and a soup of the day ( for the first order). And the server(manager) has reconfirmed our order. In the meantime, we decided our drinks, so we order drinks after we order food. When the food arrived, we were given fish finger and chips as the manager told me this is fish and chips. I wonder five fish fingers and chips would costs 11.xx£. So I asked for the menu to clarify this issue. The manager gave us the menu and said he think I ordered fish finger and chips for my toddler. And I have told him I order fish and chips which the fish fingers is not the thing I want. He just apologise BUT without any intention to give us the right thing- fish and chips. As we have three mains and a kid’s fish finger, we have to order one more dish. We ordered salmon 15.xx£ while the manager reinforced us to have the salmon of the day. He said it’s just a few more pennies for half kilo of salmon. I asked how much means a few more pennies. He said 29.xx£. We were amazed by the food quality. The food is very good (as a random restaurant we went). However, the service would be remarkable. When the time we pay for our bill, the bill was originally charging me fish and chips‼️. Therefore, we could only asked for the male server to amend a correct bill for us. The lady came and asked how do we feel on our experience. I have told what had happened on the overall included the food and the service. We were told it’s just communication issues. ‼️I have pointed to the menu to specifically order what I would like to have. The server has reconfirmed the orders! However, wrong ordering and I was told because the server think what my toddler should eat…while I could not refuse… and they would charge me the original meal I ordered but not given.‼️ ‼️I have asked what is two course Sunday Lunch. And making examples while the lady say yes and the male server say no. It’s a internal communications error instead of my fault. But they would just say it’s my understanding issue.‼️ For the shop owner, If you are the male server/ manger, I would like to told you not to be racist. It’s year 2022 🙂 If you are not there on 30October late lunch, please do think of getting a better male server / manager. No one could bare to order any items without a price on the menu. It’s winter coming. How can a drinking menu come with hot drinks without prices. He can’t manage the restaurant with his service / organisation skill. Rest of the teams are good. They are really good. Thank you chefs. Btw, though I order spaghetti busara and soups of the day. Nothing could fall into two course Sunday lunch. I paid for the full price on everything included the fish fingers and chips. What an experience we have ‼️🍾

Delicious cheesy garlic bread, followed by lobster and steak surf and turf, all with cold crisp white wine. A lovely clean, friendly atmosphere and delicious food all made for a great trip out. Well done to the new landlords on their new venture. Judging by this meal, they are going to be pretty busy!

Went in for lunch one Saturday, the food was lovely, the service was good and the atmosphere was pleasent. If it have been better weather I would have liked to have eaten in the outdoor area as it seemed a lovely setting. We were a party of three, we all had starters with a main course to follow and I indulged in a liqueur coffee to top off my meal. We all ordered steak and was not disappointed, the only thing I would have wished for was more mushrooms as I proberbly had only two or three tiny button mushrooms sliced and obviously cooked.

Amazing place to eat if you want to loose weight. Booked a week ago just to arrive to find the place is shut... why take peoples numbers if your not gonna advise on closure

Went here with family for a drink and bite to eat. Sat outside, as the weather was beautiful. You have to go to the bar to order, but my food and drinks brought out quickly. Didn't understand why chicken wings were quicker than 2 portions of chips??? There's parking on Standishgate, free depending on the time you're there.

Visited for the first time tonight and it won’t be our last either. Looking forward to going back with the wider family very soon. Quality is exceptional, service second to none and potion sizes great. Good value for money in a relaxed atmosphere serving good quality food. Will certainly be back.

Had a great meal with the family, everyone enjoyed the food especially my son who said it was the best pizza he had ever had. Didn’t manage to get a picture because he tucked in so quick. Highly recommended!

I've been looking for a decent pizza that delivers to Bryn after the quality dropped off a cliff at Ravello's and Sapores. I finally found it with the blue cheese and pepperoni pizza from the Whitesmiths! The chorizo prawns and cheese bites were also fantastic. Everything was cooked to perfection and I plan to make it my new regular. I would love it if they added a few more pizza options so I could make my way through them all 🤤

Had an table booked for 6 arrived on time, was waiting till 6:20 for me to ask then to get me a drink than again waited till 6:45 before I had to ask for food we ordered the food when the food came they brung the mains with the starter. Than the manager or owner not sure who he was rude and said it was because they was busy I looked around the was a couple of people in they was more empty seats than full ones he than said we will make u fresh because it’s there fault to bring the main out 5 mins after the we starter my lasagna had gone is soggy through being on the hot plate my Mrs is salmon was cold in the middle. Overall we had a very bad experience we would advise to avoid this place at all costs

Excellent food, delicious. Good service. My only complaint is the cheap, high energy chart house music. Played through a low quality system, too loud. If the owners read this I suggest smooth jazz, Latino, or if you insist on house music - something a lot more chilled. Other than that though, very good. Will go again.

Very nice place to go for food an drink

We visited on 14th January as a family. From walking through the door we were made to feel welcome and looked after. Starters of king prawns and chorizo were delicious, the Brie was such a big portion, the same with the feta and olives, they very kindly put what was left in tub to take home. The rest of the starters were clean plates and the kids demolished the garlic bread! Main courses, two had the rib-eye , cooked to perfection! I had the sea bass which was delicious and the fondant potato was gorgeous. Gammon well cooked and big portion. The Rest of the party had burgers, well cooked, juicy and huge! We were that stuffed only 3 had desserts, apple pie and chocolate fudge cake.a massive thumbs up on those too! We were looked after from start to finish, nothing was any trouble, service was 5 star. Fiona was fantastic she is an absolute credit to the team! Oh and the espresso martinis are just the best!!! We will definitely be returning. Thank you to everyone at The Whitesmiths for making our evening so special!

Visited On Christmas Eve Never Leave Bad Reviews However It Wasn’t The Best We Looked On The Menu Online Fully Well Knowing What We Going Too Order And Roughly How Much It Would Cost And We Were Told When We Got There That All They Did Was The Christmas Menu And We Had No Knowledge Of This And No Indication Of This Menu Online Even Worse Seeing The Prices Shocked Us This Was More Than The Menu We Thought We’d Order From… We Still Tried Too Order Of This Menu However We We’re Told That They We’re Saving Basically All Of This Christmas Menu For Christmas Day Which Left Us With No Choice With Limited Food We Just Ordered Drinks And Alone It Costed 10.90 Overall For 2 Soft Drinks And A Pint? Seriously? The Staff Weren’t Too Happy Either Very Dismissive And Quite Rude And Overall We Got The Feeling Of Bad Customer Service It Seemed That The Restaurant Was Prioritising Profit Over The Customer Care And Staff Weren’t The Best And We Had An Awful Experience Overall I Don’t Think We Will Be Coming Back And It Almost Ruined Are Christmas Eve However It Was Redeemed…

Amazing Christmas day dinner was out of this world. Can not fault a thing had dinner with my wife and sister in law Gemma and brother in law Danny live this restaurant big thanks to Mario and his team.

Took one star off as it didn't feel xmassy no crackers hats and the music was muted. Lacked atmosphere (no doubt due to the new restrictions) but do recommend this place and will be back for the food

Food was good, but the service was the highlight. Served by Jack (he couldn’t have done more, very helpful with any queries and made sure everything was well above average). The sticky toffee pudding is to die for, will definitely be returning.

Great food, great staff and a great slice of meat at great price... Bonus was my 8 year old had spag bol for free (one child under 10 eats for free) all 3 of us loved our meal on a cold day after some town center shopping. 👍

First time in Wigan, 16/10/2021. I walked into this amazing restaurant / pub, just for a drink and as the customers were being served their meals, the looked delicious. I didn't know how long I was going to be in Wigan and so I decided to eat in the restaurant. The portions are really good size, value for money too. The staff are welcoming and friendly. Great choice in food.

Visited here on a Sunday afternoon. We where looking for something spacious with the current pandemic and we weren't disappointed. It was relatively quiet surprisingly, and very spacious. My mum uses an electric wheelchair which was easily accommodated. You have to use the side door as there is a step accessing a lovely beer garden. This wasn't a problem for us as she can walk short distances and we where close to the door so she could still go outside to smoke once we had been seated. We where sat by the pass so got to inspect much of the food as it was being taken out, everything looked amazing. The staff where welcoming and service was quick, we had our drinks within minutes of arriving and food didn't seem to take too long either. We both opted for burgers, although once we saw the Sunday roasts agreed to try them next time. I had a chicken burger and honestly one of the nicest I've had. The chicken was cooked perfectly. My mum enjoyed her hamburger aswell, clearly all fresh ingredients. Definitely our new pub lunch place.

I’m a really fussy eater but was shocked to find I really liked the food. Just pushed it a little by getting too much. Food is really filling here

Nice place with really good food.

Visited here 7/10/21 with my wife and 2 children, for my lads 7th birthday. Absolutely loved it from the min we walked in to when we left. We were greeted by Mario, who was so freindley and well mannered. He made us feel at home e straight away and even brought a small board with birthday boy as my boy had lost his badge on the walk down, which I thought was a nice gesture. The food was superb. I had the peppercorn chicken wife had the linguenie arribiatta and boys had 2 kids meals. Iwas expecting just pub grub which was fine, but it wasn't it was presented perfectly and the portion and quality was spot on. I honestly can't fault it. Wish I had taken photos really to share. The food was really well priced aswell and the cocktails were good, ne and the wife do t often get time to go out for a nice meal with work ect,but I will be back here ASAP I don't usually write reviews, my wife does but think Mario and his team fully deserve it. Thanks again and we will be back very soon
