We dropped into The Gatehouse and were delighted that we could be squeezed in for a bite to eat- a rare occurrence these days as nearly everywhere has to be pre booked . We had a couple of drinks and chose 5 tapas style meals. All were delicious. We were well looked after by the staff, particularly Ella who was attentive. Looking forward to our next visit.

Had a very tasty curry here on a rare child free night, midweek so was quiet inside but the beer garden was full. It's been a while since we've managed to go out and have a curry and this was top notch, this wasn't your greasy takeaway curry but a freshly cooked feast. The garlic naan was bursting with garlic, the masala chips were scrumptious and the curries themselves were amazing. Might try the small plates next time we manage to get babysitters again!

Great pub with delicious Indian fusion pub classics. Second time visiting under the new owners and the food has been spot on both times. Have had the Madras platter which was sensational. The butter chicken sauce is so tasty. Attended with family for lunch today ordering 5 meals and everyone throughly enjoyed. The small plates are very generous portions and the burgers are also massive! Good selection of beers. Great space and has been decorated lovely. Dog friendly. Staff are super lovely too, our pickiest eater was our canine companion and she was won over with some hand delivered dog biscuits which were polished off very quickly! Best avoided. Also beware of the sheer amount of fake 5 star reviews. Most of these people have only 1 reviews to their names. Claims everything is fresh but this is untrue. Samosas rock hard, chicken tikka is not proper chicken tikka and naan breads are out of a packet. How can you call yourself an Indian restaurant and not have a tandoor oven? The drinks on offer are also limited and the guiness here is of a poor quality. Not cheap either for the quality. Batter on the Korean chicken was awful and the paneer was rubbery. If you're expecting decent Indian food don't come. The chips were laughably low quality. Cheap nasty oven chips. The keema start came with barely any mince as well. One to be avoided.

Ale and Aloo in Tyldsley offers a delightful fusion of traditional British pub vibes and inventive Indian cuisine. The pub's inviting ambiance, complete with cozy seating and warm lighting, makes it perfect for a relaxed evening. The ale selection is impressive, featuring a variety of local brews and classic favorites that cater to all tastes. The highlight, however, is the food. The aloo dishes are a must-try, blending authentic Indian spices with a modern twist. Whether you're savoring their spiced aloo tikka or indulging in the hearty aloo chaat, the flavors are vibrant and perfectly balanced. The service is attentive and friendly, adding to the overall charm of the experience. Ale and Aloo is a great spot for both ale enthusiasts and those looking to enjoy delicious, innovative Indian-inspired dishes in a welcoming setting. Highly recommended for a unique dining experience in Tyldsley.

We love coming here with our dog, Paddy. We've been a few times now and it's been fantastic every time. It's such a great idea to have a relaxed pub atmosphere but with curry and drinks. There is a lovely thought out menu where you can choose your spice level with a great choice of curries as well as lots of small plates and things like burgers and topped nans! Amazing pistachio and saffron tiramisu for pudding as well. We've only had the curries and the small plates so far but there's even options for people who don't like curry (traditional pub grub) - they even do a Sunday roast that we've not tried yet. Great beer options as well as wines/cocktails. The food and service has been brilliant every time and it's definitely quickly become one of our regular restaurant options. We've eaten at a lot of curry places (guilty) and this is HIGHLY recommended!

I honestly cannot speak highly enough of this place, it simply gets better and better every time we come. Everything is made from scratch so they are wonderful with dietary requirements (me!) and extreme levels of spice (my partner). We have yet to find a menu item we wouldn’t order again and they have possibly the crispest pint of Cobra we’ve ever had. It’s one of those places you can’t just come to once. The food is really lovely ! We shared small plates and every single one was delicious ! The only thing that lets the play down is service time. The first time we went it took about an hour for them to get our starters to us and there was hardly anyone in. This second time there was a very upset couple next to us who had waited a really long time also and were complaining. I really hope they manage to sort out more staff to rectify this as we would like to continue to go but waiting so long is a put off when very hungry.

2nd visit, this time as 4 adults for the bottomless brunch. I specifically asked when booking if there could be a vegetarian curry option for the brunch. I recieved a reply really quickly asking what I would like & was assured it could be made available as part of the brunch. When arriving it was confirmed the chef would be making the requested curry (Paneer Sagwala- really good) & that another vegetarian curry was going to be made just for me so I had more options-a lovely surprise! The surprise second curry was a Chickpea Dhall & it was hard to choose which was my favourite. All the food was excellent, extremely tasty & obviously home made with fresh quality ingredients. The non vegetarians were all very full & happy & the personal touch was really appreciated & will definitely be visiting again.

Friends went for the Indian bottomless brunch, £37.95 each including selected bottomless alcoholic drinks. The organisation seemed poor and you had to pay up front, then help yourself to food and go to the bar for drinks. Food was laid out buffet style but was lukewarm from the start. Tasteless chicken wings and veg samosa plus mains of very watery beef keema and butter chicken, chicken biriyani which was probably the most tasty, masala chips, plain rice and naan. Compared to pictures I’ve seen of the main menu food here, this was nothing like that standard, therefore we were very disappointed and won’t be returning based on this experience. Live singers were good but the music was far too loud so couldn’t hear conversations in our group. Overpriced and overrated.

Its generally a nice pub for a drink, however they have recently re-branded themselves as an "authentic" Indian restaurant also. Sadly this is not the case - You'll find a more authentic curry in your local Wetherspoons, you can tell everything's straight out the microwave despite their attempts to serve the food in authentic bowls etc. Still will be going in for a drink but I strongly advise giving the food a miss and going to a local curry house instead (there are plenty around)

Myself and my family were very disappointed in the service and quality of food we had when we visited yesterday which was disappointing after seeing so many good reviews. Firstly when we arrived there was no mention that we had to order at the bar so we were sat waiting a while before we realised. The food itself arrived late and my 3 year old'd simple meal came out last and was overcooked and dry. In between courses nobody came over to clear the tables or ask if we needed anything so we had to ask for plates to be moved etc as there was no room. My sister ordered a cocktail which was flat. To make matters worse three of us were up all night ill after the meal. Overall, very disappointed and definitely won't be returning

Our first time visiting this gastro pub Ale and Aloo in Tyldesley, and we absolutely loved it. Samosa Chat starter was delicious and tasty. Chicken roast dinner included marsala roasted vegetables, cumin roast potatoes and tandoori chicken breast and leg. Vegetables melted in your mouth. All with a side order of makhani cauliflower cheese, which was outstanding in a butter chicken sauce. So glad we found this place! Reading the range of reviews, it is important to remember it is not a restaurant, there are no pot holes in the car park, prices are not expensive given quality, taste and amount of food you get. It is a pub that serves Indian food, and they are good at it and only open since September 2023. We will definitely be visiting again as want to try the curries and nan bread, as well as the small plates. It is good to see a pub adapt how it works and find a niche it is good at.

What’s not to love? Friendly staff, great beer, good music and AMAZING food. We can highly recommend the chicken tikka vindaloo and the vegetable madras. We’ve visited several times and the quality is always excellent. The garlic naan is the best we’ve tasted. We’ll be back very soon! :)

No idea how this place has only 4.3 stars on Google. I run a venue on 4.7 stars and its hard graft but we deliver quality that easily matches these guys. Food is so authentic and creative and is unbelievably tasty...my 100% go to now for a curry! They don't have many staff on the floor, but the few they do have are bloody grafters and deliver service with efficiency and a smile, I'd happily employ them all. Seen them doing their thing on Instagram and thought it was worth a trip over... totally was! We even ordered a takeaway for our friends as we were leaving! X

Family meal today, will not be rushing back. Poor service, papadoms no plates, no cutlery. Main meal got curries no plates, waited, asked, then got rice, still no plates. Asked for plates oh how many do you want, well one each would help.please. Nans then arrived, we should have chips too, oh right. Child's meal burnt had to be returned. My curry should have been extra mild, it was hot, fortunately mixed with a korma. Sunday dinners not good quality. No one checked was everything ok, did we want deserts. Won't be going again, such a great shame as this was a very special family gathering. Very disappointed, not one person enjoyed their meal.

Such a shame, went for a family celebration. Food arrived in dribs and drabs, no plates, no cutlery. Children's food had to be returned as burnt. Would not like to go again and do not recommend unfortunately. Considering the meals were pre booked, we should have all eaten together.

It had good reviews so we my wife and I decided to try it out I had jalfrazy curry sauce was 6out 10 to much rice chicken not enough of it. My wife had biryani curry with just far to much rice very dry yogurt in small dish no vegetable curry sauce. In fairness this was offered but we had to point it out and by now dissatisfied with the taste and the meal in general it was below average we will not recommend this to are family and friends.

The food took quite a while to come out the kitchen and was not hot when it arrived. It may have been left a while before bring to the table. After seeing photo’s of the food I was disappointed at the portion sizes with the chicken Bon bons. Although the food was tasty, overall I wasn’t impressed with the standard and maybe the price has a reflection on this, however for a non Indian restaurant it was good enough for pub grub. I would not make another special trip as the £70 return taxi fare would deter me if I lived more local would possible try again. The cocktails were very potent…! 😃

Authentic Indian food Top desifood in Manchester #RecommendedbySollyDj FYI: This review is written by a South Indian guy who can handle spicy food. Was invited to this place by British friends who spoke highly of this place. Food is amazing. Presentation perfect. Great ambience. Good selection of drinks. We met the chef Mr Xavier at the end of the evening. He makes everything himself with his wife. Lovely guy. My benchmark to decide if a restaurant is good depends on their biriyani. And I can rate this as ONE OF THE TOP 3 BIRIYANIS IN MANCHESTER. I would go back to this place absolutely any day for this biriyani. We tried the saag paneer, butter chicken, garlic naan and chicken wings. Loved them all. Fair warning: Please ask for less spicy version if you are not Indian. To top it all, his wife offered a taste of her speciality: a pistachio tiramisu and it’s OUT OF THIS WORLD. If you are here, you should try it. This is something Xavier and his wife have created. Doesn’t exist anywhere else. Ample space for parking and in a nice locality.

Me and my fiancée were visiting my cousin and her fiance and they had decided to take us out for food here at The Gatehouse and we were pleasantly surprised with how quaint the restaurant was, the food arrived in good time and it was really good quality, a generous portion size with a good flavour and texture, cooked just right. We had nothing but a good experience.

Lovely staff but the food just isn’t that good. We had 6 of the small plates and most weren’t particularly nice. The prawns were probably the worst - looked and tasted like they’d been cooked for hours, very rubbery and shrivelled. The batter was well seasoned though. The kheema chips did have a good amount of cheese, but the chips themselves were too mushy. The samosa chaat was like biting into a rock it was so hard! The Korean chicken was dry, over cooked like the prawns. But again the batter was well seasoned. The lamb kebab was decent, good spice level. It’s got potential to be great but most things are overcooked and low quality ingredients. The popadom chutneys were also bad, very thin and vinegary. Wouldn’t go again and would tell friends to avoid.

We fancied a trip out for breakfast on a Saturday morning and came across this place when searching on Google. We went fairly early and it was quiet when we got there, ordered a full English each with
