Brilliant pub , up on the Pennines ! I have visited and eaten here many times!! Today I had a proper Yorkshire Farmers Dinner , Barnsley Chop! It was huge!!!! A fantastic GLUTEN FREE option!! The GLUTEN FREE menu is great!! Lots of choice! It's a great place to come during the Summer too , to watch the Sunset!! The staff are very pleasant and helpful! It was rammed , so best to leave it until later to eat! One of my favourite pubs!

Called in on a Sunday afternoon, very busy but given a table quickly. Staff all really friendly and extremely efficient service, table service works well. Food came in good time, fresh and delicious. Generous portions so unfortunately had no room for dessert, but the desserts on offer sounded very tempting.

Went to The White House last night, and we both had 'Rag Pudding' ( there was snow all around, so that was perfect!) Food was excellent and so filling. Staff were great, and so attentive-in spite of the snow, they still made it in. Log fire was burning and it was a very lovely evening-thank you White House.

Probably eat here twice a month, never lets us down, always hot, always cooked well, great prices and the staff are all always happy. Gradually going through the menu to try everything, Game mixed grill was very nice, roast pork yesterday, and the Haddock mornay is to die for.

As someone with extreme allergies, it's refreshing to be able to eat somewhere in the local area that doesn't allow dogs inside. There are very few places that are Dog free these days. My husband said his roast beef dinner was one of the nicest he had in a long time and my spicy steak was delicious - generous portions I felt guilty sending some back!! My mum enjoyed her seabass and chunky chips too. As for the desserts....fabulous! Ferrero Rocher cake was a dream on a plate Staff were polite, friendly and attentive on a very busy day.

Great setting and service. Food not so good I'm afraid. Lots of choice on the menu but it think it's too much. Simplify the menu and perfect that.

Just come home from the white house after having their christmas menu lunch. The price is fantastic at just over £23 for three courses. The food was lovely, every course tasted delicious and the staff were all very nice, had a lovely afternoon and would recommend to anyone. If less than five people you can not book so would advise getting there for just before it opens to get a seat in the smaller room but there is a larger room as well. Will definitely go back

Unfortunately our last visit as food wasn't fresh amd has gone down hill, food came out really fast as in no way its cooked fresh .. the cheese and onion pie was definitely night before reheat , the chips weren't good . No black pudding on. Was really really good before but not the same

We were hoping to eat here, but only guide dogs are allowed! Very disappointing. Most households have dogs. You are alienating many potential customers! It is a real shame.

Went to the Whitehouse yesterday for Xmas meal with 18 others, food mediocre, attitude of one member of staff- appalling, one lady commented on the carrots being hard - reply, well there was other veg! One lady asked for a change of dessert- reply no as Xmas pudding is already being warmed. The cost of the meal was over £20 per head you would think a person could change their mind. First time I have been will not be returning.

A group of about 15 came for.our Christmas lunch. The starter of prawn and salmon was nice but the main course left a lot to be desired. The vegetables were either rock hard (I was kindly served cauliflower stalks)! Or very limp. The food was very dry, the roast potatoes were frozen roast and very dry. All the staff were lovely apart from Natalie, who I personally think would benefit from attending a Customer Service course! There was no music, no atmosphere. I won't ever be dining here again. Was a big let down.

This is an unpretentious first rate very well run inn with an extensive menu that suits all tastes and appetites. The warm welcome and service are second to none.

We have past this pub many times and decided to pop in for a light lunch after walking around Baitings Dam. Avery warm welcome awaits. Friendly helpful and efficient staff. Great food. Nice ambiance. Perfect in every way!

Drove passed on the way to Todmorden and looked inviting especially with elevation and views so called in on the way back home . Nice traditional pub and food looks very nice and good value was quite busy unfortunately we were about ten minutes late for food but had a look at menu and specials board and we will be back . Staff friendly especially landlord who chatted to us while we enjoyed our drinks ..

Lovely place tasty food and in a nice location for business

Today 16/10/2024 was our first time dining at The White House . Several of my relatives had recommended dining here . So today was that day . First impressions of The White House is it’s a beautiful old building . We were greeted by a lovely gentleman at the door as we were first to arrive at 12:00 . We got to choose where we wanted to sit for our meal . We did choose a window seat to admire the lovely views , unfortunately the weather wasn’t on our side today it was very foggy . We took to our seats then ordered our drinks . Then we had a look at the menu . They had a great choice of meals , also there’s the special board also . I opted for the Gammon , egg and chips which was delicious the gammon just melted in your mouth . One guest opted for the beef roast dinner , and fish and chips for another . Followed by our last guest had the Bury Black Pudding with mash and onions . I can honestly say that all our plates were empty . Everyone really enjoyed the food . The atmosphere was really nice . We will definitely be back in the very near future with some more of our friends and family .

Wonderful old coaching inn at the top of a hill overlooking Hollingworth Lake. Ample parking, amazing variety of dishes, plenty of room. It's "a keeper".

Had a very nice meal with my wife after work. The food is really good imo and the staff are excellent in both serving prompt and clearing away 👌

After a long walk, we decided to have lunch at The White House. When we got to the pub... No dogs allowed was on the board.. Such a disappointment 😞, as there was not another pub on our route. Being out in the sticks.. you would've thought they accepted dogs. Checked website , dog allowed outside, did not see any garden or table to sit outside.

This was my first trip to The White House and my first meal out in a few months so I was really looking forward to the meal as I had heard great things about it but I was a little disappointed really. My partner had the gammon, chips and veg and his gammon was a beautiful piece of meat, substantial and tasty, obviously great quality. I had the steak and kidney pie, chips and veg, the pie was a rather small piece and the chips were not real chips freshly cooked but of the frozen type that you might get in a Weatherspoons - I was really disappointed with them as they were tasteless. The waitress explained they were made offsite as they hadn’t room to make fresh chips. It wasn’t awful food by any standards but I feel that my meal didn’t reflect the price point. I suppose just not to my taste or expectations.

Can't give 5 star for good as only tried one thing on the menu so will be back to try something different . But the small fish pie and lemon meragne yummy yum yum friendly staff nice atmosphere will defo recommend oh and the coffee.....beautiful.

Food was great, had the rag pudding, roast beef dinner and lamb Henry, lamb falling off the bone. Fairly reasonable prices and server Jean was lovely very chatty and friendly. Will definitely be coming back as they have Landlord on draught.

it’s definitely nice enough here, the views are spectacular and the choice on the menu is massive! the rump steak was amaaaazing, as was the halloumi. great range of specials too if you don’t fancy anything off their vast menu!

Last time I visited here I was unimpressed. I’m not sure if that was a one off or if the inn has changed hands but superb food at great prices with an extensive menu. Beware ….. huge portions. Great visit.

We popped in just before they shut for the afternoon. They were happy to greet us and serve us some soft drinks. Just the pick up we needed to carry on in our 13 mile walk.

Really loved it, but the people that I went with are regulars which gave a good atmosphere.

We had excellent service, but TBH, we were with a good friend of the owner's, so it's not a fair assessment, but it looked good for everyone else. I have dietary restrictions, one of which is diabetes, so my choices are very limited. I had salmon and it was delicious.

Popped in after a wander over moors for 'rehydration', staff were really friendly. We didn't eat but food smelt fantastic and it was busy so must be good 👍🏻 think I would look at making a reservation if was planning to eat 🙂

Always like it here usually get a table and we are served very quickly because the staff know we are not going to hang around and be "table blockers"

We visited this pub Dec 2023 and was made to feel very welcome by Ethan, he was very welcoming and friendly also extremely knowledgeable about the area, hence why we have returned in our campervan. All the staff where fantastic. The food was lovely, i really couldn't fault it even if I wanted to , can not wait to return.

I was a quite disappointed as the food was brought out for 4 and the fifth came when the others were nearly finished, something I find very annoying. Presentation of the food was a bit lax. I had to ask for the bill twice to no avail so went and paid at the bar. To be fair it was quite busy, but I left feeling it could have been better.

Visited on a weekday lunchtime to meet up with friends. Pub opens at 12 and by 12.30 it was full!! Despite the staff being kept busy drink and food service was excellent. A special mention to the lovely lady behind the bar, Helen, who made us feel very welcome.

The staff were very helpful, polite and attentive. When the food arrived, it was well presented and most importantly hot. Will definitely be going back.

Went for lunch very nice as always. Good atmosphere very friendly staff, nice view's over towards hollingworth lake. It was very very windy and we needed to hold on each other to stop us getting blown away.

An excellent, surprisingly large homely pub with great hand-pulled ales and open fires. Given how murky it was outside, the White House pub was a real haven!

Came mother's day! Phoned up midweek to book and managed to fit us in last minute..really glad they did as was busy even with awful weather conditions!!.anyway didn't do a starter but was lots of choice..as it was sunday i opted for the Roasf beef dinner was lovely with roasties and veg..mother had the sea bass salad and jacket spud...both cooked lovely with quick service as well..both had desserts with home made lemon meringue was delicious as was the sherry trifle..id defo be coming back up (better weather next time ) to admire the views up at the top!..defo worth a visit..lovely place lovely food and attentive staff with great service..well done all..

Went on Saturday night food not as good as normal. The lady that took our order seemed in a bad mood don't think we will going again .been going for years alway been lovely

Been coming here for years, last 2 visits was the worst of services. Have you changed your chefs?? Second to last visit, 16oz steak was dry for a medium. Last visit the plate sizes where small and my brie was saturated in fat. I will not be returning. I give thanks for your previous services, good luck for the future.

Got stuck in the snow on my motorbike ( don't ask ), got to the White House, with others who were stuck in the snow in cars ! The Owner ( I assume ?) and staff were all welcoming, and cheering everyone up. I had a coffee and meal ( lovely food ), The owner asked if I wanted anything else, I said 'yes please, a snow plough and a gritter' she came back 10 mins later, and said on it's way, and it did come 20 mins later !! That's what you call service ! I haven't been into the pub in quite a while, but now we will definitely call again, good friendly service, and nice food. Well recommended !!!

I had the 7oz Gammon which was very good, nice pint of beer, the staff were excellent. This is my 3rd visit in recent months, 26/02/24, previous had fish and chips, this time had gammon again, first class food, all my friends had different meals, all were excellent, service very good, cant fault this place, local walks good too.

I visit here regularly, and the food is lovely. After recently changing to a vegan diet I was very happy today to find a Vegan choice on specials board. More of these, please 😊

A lovely warm welcome well who can’t do that but was literally like stepping back into the 70s the chairs were worn and tatty and the whole place looked like it needed a deep clean even the menu had 70s dishes now I get the majority off the customers Whete shall we say over a certain age they like there comforts and familiarity but please can you send your cook chef to have lessons it was kind off a needs improvement more effort to be made food was dire I had I was ready to leave after first course then came out the apple pie soft guey pastry obviously been microwaved to death with gone off cream I couldn’t pay the bill quick enough awful food awful decor great staff
