Popped in after a walk around the marine lake a proper pub with low ceilings and wooden beams to go with it no surprise it's so busy selling well kept beer such as Glen affraich a birkenhead brew bevy across the mersey and various other plenty to chose from on the pumps and lagers such as amstel and crazcumpo

I first posted a review of The White Lion over 7yrs ago. It's the go to pub whe we finish The Wirral Way. The ales are kept perfectly. The beer garden has changed dramatically and with the times since my first visit . Lovely pub, great friendly staff, amazing beers ( which they update on Real Ale Finder ) and a suntrap beer garden, but tighten up the top of some of those benches guys. Pints were spilt and at least one smashed on Sunday/11th. No more to say really, just a Great Pub 👍 🍺

After our walk today we came here for a pint or two. I've been coming here for the last 15 years or so and the bar and interior have never really changed in all that time, till COVID came in. It was somewhere around that time that they slowly started work on the rear beer garden. It's now been completely refurbished and grassed over and they've installed new benches. They also installed a nice pond with some huge Koi carp. As well as this they built a massive wooden conservatory which is handy when the weathers not too good. They always have a great range of real ales and beers. The staff were very helpful and pleasant.

Used to be my favourite pub in West Kirby and the new team have done a great job. However, I think it's ruined for me now. Loud TV's on the wall, no one eating food because let's face it who wants a meal whilst others are cheering their team? So,if you want that great. I'm sure you will enjoy it. But seems like a mistake for the majority that made it popular before

A lovely old pub on Black Horse Hill, West Kirby. Very much a traditional rustic kind of a boozer, attracting a varied clientele of all ages. I visited on a Thursday evening and enjoyed some live acoustic folk music which was really enjoyable and not loud enough to stifle conversation where I was sat. A good selection of beers, probably popular with the real ale people.

I had a lovely time at the White Lion. There was a musician performing. There was a good range of cask ales at good value. There was a good mix of customers. Everyone seemed really friendly and a nice pair of ladies offered the seats nearby so that we could sit down. I had a Baltic Ale and it was a cracking pint.

I have spent hours and hours of my life in this pub, I was a regular when I lived in West Kirby and now when I visit home I always pop in for a pint. Looks amazing since the most recently take over, the beer garden is far more attractive, the food looks top drawer but they’ve managed to keep the unique atmosphere that the White Lion always had.

A beautiful traditional pub, with a great variety of beers on offer. This is a low ceiling, proper inn style pub with bags of character. There are around 4 or 5 real ales on tap at any given time, usually by local breweries. There are little snugs to chill out in, in addition to the front and rear beer gardens. A must pop in, if you're in the area. A lovely pub.

Update May 2023: First visit for a year or so. The cask ale is still unremarkable (I tried 3), still stale and still stored under a CO2 aspiration system, much better quality cask ales are available locally further down the hill, I'm thinking the West Kirby Tap et al. On the plus side, the bar staff were very pleasant. Update January 2022. It's been several years since my original unfavourable review of The White Lion, since when the pub has changed hands, so a further visit was in order. The welcome from the bar staff couldn't have been more different, a big smile, very impressive. The interior was very cosy and agreeably quiet, even though there were a good few customers present. The cask ales were OK, but the first sip revealed the presence of the dreaded CO2 cask aspiration system (designed to prevent ale oxidation and thus preserve cask contents beyond their 3 or 4-day natural lifespan). After 4 or so days, It makes the ale taste bland but still drinkable, it is instantly recognisable (to my palate at least). For this reason, I've knocked one star off from what would have been a five-star review. Original review: Probably the most unwelcoming bar staff I have ever had the misfortune not to be served by. We left soon after entering.

Came in here for 1 drink and food. Nice little pub to look at and lovely beer garden. But the food prices are ridiculous. £12.50 for a double cheese burger that's doesn't come with chips or anything. So paid an extra £4 to have chips. So £16.50 for a burger and chips. It wasn't anything special either. Should of stayed in weatherspoons. No cutlery brought over or serviettes either and the young girl just come over took my plate away when hadn't finished . Wouldn't go back to here again .
