The White Horse in Selby

A really nice village pub, so good to see it still open. Worth a visit but very hard to find out their opening times (and I don’t ever trust Google as it is so often wrong). Even the pub’s own website doesn’t give away the secret of when they are open. Apart from that, well worth a visit although beware of the locals, don’t sit in their ‘usual seat’; a bit cliquey in that respect, felt obligated to move.

Was going to a wedding nearby and called the day before for some lunch and WOW . The village is beaut , the pub is wonderful, the menu is amazing , the staff were friendly and the food was 10/10 . wish we didn't live so far away otherwise id be back in shot.

We met up for family meal. Drinks were ordered and arrived quickly but we had to wait an hour for our starters. No explanation. The starters and mains were less than average. My battered prawns and fish and chips were heavy on batter and weren’t cooked properly. The chips were oven chips. We were there 2.5 hours for two courses. Far too long and for disappointing food. Certainly won’t be returning.

Regular visitors for both drinks and food. Always delivers consistently good food. Steaks always high quality and well cooked. Easy to do although so many fail to do so, although the White Horse always does! Last night had Timothy Taylor’s Landlord which is always excellent. Good service from the young team expertly led by Hannah.

We had a 21st birthday function. The bar staff were fantastic, very friendly and service was quick and efficient. The manager Hannah organised it brilliantly and I can’t thank her enough. Special shout-out to Holly who was behind the bar who did an exceptional job. All in all a great evening. Thank you kindly.

Atmosphere was busy without feeling crowded or rushed. Food was absolutely delicious and the staff were friendly. Lovely evening all round.

Can’t understand some of the negative reviews as when we visited the service was amazing and every member of staff that served us were lovely, clearly couldn’t do enough to help! The food was amazing and very reasonably priced! Would absolutely recommend a visit!

We booked a table for 11 for today and from start to finish the staff were extremely helpful. We had 2 people with allergies and the waiting and kitchen staff were knowledgeable and reassuring. The food was fantastic and plentiful. I would definitely recommend this lovely venue.

We have dined at The White Horse several times and when thinking of a local and cosy venue we immediately thought of here. From booking to the actual evening everything went to plan. Steve and Amanda couldn’t do enough to make the occasion perfect. Hannah and her team on the day were simply fantastic and had the event room all set out beautifully. The bar in the room works so well and the outdoor private area was a winner. The food was superb and everyone commented on just how delicious it was. They set our cake up, had access to WiFi for our own music and just made the whole event. If you are looking for an intimate venue (we were 26) then absolutely take a look- you will not be disappointed!

We had a lovely Sunday lunch the food was very good. However the service was not the best. It felt like we had been forgotten about. Took a while for our drinks and food order to be taken and then having received desert menus no one came back to take our order, the staff were too busy chatting amongst themselves and messing around. In the end we decided to leave and then had to find someone so we could pay our bill. Not sure anyone would have realised had we just left. Such a shame as the food was great.

Every Sunday we try somewhere new for Sunday dinner. This has got to be the best find we’ve had in a LONG time. All of the food was fresh and of a high standard. It all tasted DIVINE. We had a lovely Father’s Day meal at the White Horse today. The Sunday Lunch was the best we’ve ever had! Great service, big portions and really tasty food. Would 100% recommend!

Please get a separate frier for gf chips,most other places do cater better for coeliac,more choice would be great.

Great little hidden gem. Met up with friends who were staying in Chirch Fenton. Great menu, service and atmosphere. Spotlessly clean. Beer garden an added bonus. If you're staying in the area, I'd recommend a visit. We will definitely return.

This is an edit if the message sent to there Facebook page which I have since been blocked from (can still message but can't find the page) I have also emailed and no response but they have liked the "I wouldn't recommend" review on there page. There was one positive but that is been heavily outweighed by the lack of care by the owners and management when receiving a negative comment. I have recently visited you twice in quick succession firstly been Saturday 13th May and today been Wednesday 17th May. The headline to this is 2 visits and 2 very different experiences. I will start with the positive which was on Saturday. Arrived at 5pm we were sat on the large round table in the window received a very warm welcome. Drinks ordered quickly all done with a smile my self and my partner both had starters and mains and both were fantastic my daughter had chicken goujons which she loved hence the reason for the second visit but I'll get to that soon. The 2 young ladies which served us could not have provided a better service and for what is about to follow is at all no reflection on them they were incredible I really wish I had gotten there names. So that brings us to tonight's visit 17th May. Booked in for the same time of 5pm same table size of 3. Drinks were served quickly although I got my daughters drink in front of me and my daughter got mine not usually a massive issue but what 4 year old drinks a pint of lager!! Ordered food soon after my partner and I both had the Yorkshire pudding with pigs in blankets although the pigs in blankets were ok the Yorkshire puddings tasted like they had been frozen this is something I could have mentioned bit no check back at all. After the starters were cleared and still no check back or no further drinks offered. I try to get out regularly and usually a 3 drink minimum each unless my daughter isn't with me then could happily double that. So waited for the main courses everything was brought out and still no drinks offered. There's me thinking a big part of hospitality was too look after people. and yet again no check back even when the mains were cleared. I gave up on the idea of dessert but my daughter did want one so she chose the brownie. There was a lot of staff on so how can these small things get missed. I can't believe the contrast from saturday to today. its like the staff didn't care. sorry to say I won't be returning unless it's a weekend (which is rare time off) and the 2 young ladies that looked after us on Saturday are working.

A pub just five mins away from our house. We love visiting for Sunday lunch. Never had a bad one, lovely meat, Yorkshire puds and the veg that comes with it very nice, especially the cauliflower cheese!

Bang average pub food trying to be a bit fancy but massively hitting the mark. Visted for food a few times and always been disappointed. Poorly executed Sunday lunch, saddest veg I've ever experienced, overcooked meat. Small criticism but there's one thing I couldn't help but notice, micro herbs. PILES OF MICRO HERBS ON EVERYTHING. I'm afraid putting micro herbs on literally every dish- even when they don't compliment the food is not enough to cover up the lack luster cooking.
